Apparently it's supposed to rain every year for this concert, but it didn't this year and it was an AMAZING experience! The weather was perfect and the musical lineup was unreal! It's packed at the various stages, but there's a lot to do in between the performances for anyone inclined. The food there is seriously good and without a doubt, this is one of the coolest things you can do in Memphis.

We chose Memphis as our mini-vacation destination to check the box on attending the BSMF. We really enjoyed ourselves - ate/drank well, met very nice and interesting people, paid our respects to Elvis and the other music legends (alive or not), and of course listened to awesome music at the festival. The acts that drew us to the festival all put an awesome show - especially Lenny K, Pixies, Spin Doctors, Slash, Kenny W.S., Band of Horses, Ed Sheeran, John Fogerty! - JF was SO good. Surprise bands we really enjoyed and are now on the must-see-again list are Cage The Elephant, Big Head Todd & TM, Lecrea, and Flogging Molly. Hozier also very talented and put on a good show -- needs to mature his stage presence. Wilco predictably good with awesome musicianship but kinda boring. Scott Weiland was solid but walked off at the end without even a thank you - really Scott? The only disappointment was George Clinton & P-Funk. We had such high expectations and were so ready. Those guys have lost their funk and gone thug. Clearly playing for themselves and killing time. The audience so wanted to get into it but they didn't groove. Talented bands don't have to beg the audience to make noise, drop F-bombs and make other lude remarks, or hump the microphone stand for a rise. With 10+ people on stage, including a horn section, they could have put themselves back on the map. A dang shame. On a blues note, we caught Preston Shannon (twice) and he is terrific. We also happened to catch WILL TUCKER in the blues tent and "WOW!". He is the real deal and, at his young age, is going to be absolutely huge. Hope he makes it to Michigan soon. Thanks Memphis for a great extended weekend!

Great effects - balloons, confetti, Wayne Coyne's poetry about the river and power - Wayne's infectious energy and songs with value. MGMT reminds me that Memphis is the soul of music with so much to offer the world. Thank you Andrew and band for the passion and commitment to your sound.

Weather was perfect. The line ups were awesome. Music Awesome!! Blind MS Morris with his own stage was good. Not many true old blues players left. Range of food and beverages were good. Even Jerry Lee Lewis out did himself. I didn't see many passed out and/or throwing up - that is always nice. Crowds were nice and considerate.

My favorite band on Friday was Manchester Orchestra (who opened), so I'm biased in my opinion that they sounded the best :P But, Cage the Elephant, MGMT, and of course STP were absolutely crazy. Cage put on just as awesome of a show as I expected, along with MGMT and STP. Went over to Beale St. after STP's set and had a blast there also. So glad it didn't rain and SO glad I was able to go this year. -Cody

There were wayyy to many people. They should have put a limit on the tickets sold because it got dangerously crowded so it wasn't as fun as it could have been. I don't drink, but it looked like everyone who was drunk was enjoying themselves very much!

I simply can't describe how great Memphis in May is. Every year, there is at least 1 band that is an unbelievable performer...an experience no one could ever forget. Last year it was Mute Math. This year it was B.o.B and Sick Puppies, two completely different genres of band still absolutely blowing me away.

I've been to MIM 10 years now and this was the 2nd time ever to see Bizkit. PLEASE have them back at MIM in 2011. They were the highlight of the weekend. I've seen hundreds of performers, and many great ones. If you're looking for energy, adrenaline, and non stop unreal awesome music Limp Bizkit in MY opinion is the best at that. Going to Indy to see them at Verizon Wireless in July and can't wait.

The lineup at this annual event runs the gamut from Hip-Hop, Country, Rock, Alternative, Americana... And the artist are at the top of their field. Plus, you're in Memphis, so the food and ambiance is unique and very enjoyable. How they put this on for the price is beyond me, but take advantage.

It was really great other than the MUD!! Have they never heard of hay or bark chips? Some really great bands and performances! Jake Bugg was awesome! The Black Keys rocked! Good mix of bands and musical styles. Wish I could have at least brought in water to drink. I get not letting people bring in alcohol, although lots of people did. But no water?! Will probably go in the future.

They had great quality acts, minus a couple that were definitely studio bands. ( deftones, smashing pumpkins) the downer was the lack of respect for others by all the under age kids under the influence of whatever mostly drunk. had a great time though for the most part, didn't let the actions of a few ruin the fun and experience of the other self controlled people out there. we all made the best of what could have been a really awful weekend with the weather. Thanks.

Bush was absolutely amazing at the Beale Street Music Festival Sunday evening. Gavin Rossdale has still got it.....The played a ton of old songs with a nice mix of new stuff. I loved it. Plus the atmosphere was great, parking was easy, the crowd was into it. It was definitely worth the trip over to Memphis. I have been three times now and each time I've gone has been a fabulous concert experience--love the outside atmosphere. Would definitely recommend Memphis in May to anyone looking for good music.

I'm a long-time Memphian and had never attended the Beale Street Music Festival or any of the other events during Memphis in May. I was discouraged by reports of people slogging through the mud while it was going on and, this year, was warned away from the Music Festival by folks telling me about wall-to-wall people and lots of drunks every year. Well, my son was performing this year, and we decided to brave it all anyway! I was very pleasantly surprised. For one thing, there was an enormous police presence! Never saw anybody misbehave. Never saw anybody drunk. The crowd situation wasn't bad at all, and all the music I heard was fantastic! I will attend next year and every year that I am able to, and I will definitely encourage other people to attend also. It was a great event...right down there on the banks of our fabulous Mississippi River with the cool breezes blowing off it. Now that's a river! Parking wasn't hard to find. We parked in the lot at the Orpeum Theater. It was more expensive than a lot of the other lots, but very, very convenient to the even at Tom Lee Park.

50 yards off of the raging Mississippi River, as a gorgeous sun cascaded through the clouds on its way down from heavenly height, Cake serenaded us into the night. After years of yearning to see Cake, this was probably the most unforgettable moment in my life. Later B.o.B put on an amazing performance as MGMT subpar'd on a stage behind me. Then to cap the night, the Flaming Lips, for what almost took forever, unleashed a monster of a psychedelic beast. The rest of the show simmered down from there, Saturday was pretty good, and Sunday was subpar. Even though the bands played well, I have seen most of their spectacular and memorable performances. But Friday night... will live in my heart and mind forever.

Really well-rounded line-up, and the performances were good, but Tom Lee Park is one of my least favorite venues ever. Apart from the mud (which was expected, so I'm not even factoring that in), the space is far too small for the number of tickets they sell and the lighting on the thoroughfares is dismal. Food is uninspired and there are far too many beer vendors. I'm all for people getting trashed if that's their dig, but the reason I prefer the bigger festivals is the encouragement for people to drink water and stay hydrated and healthy rather the encouragement to spend exorbitant amounts of money to get wasted, when all it causes is more issues with people passing out and throwing up and being generally belligerent. Cops are a common occurance, and as long as you're not openly partaking in illegal activities or being a major danger to other people, they'll mostly turn their heads. The security staff is incredibly helpful and pretty hilarious, too. All volunteers are friendly.

The TICKETMASTER Prices were so so so worth it!!! We saw MGMT, The Flaming Lips, and Stone Temple Pilots on Friday Night. Three of the best shows iIve ever seen. They were all fantastic, the crowds were great, the sets were about an hour each! I absolutely cannot explain how incredible the shows were, I will upload some pictures in this review. The second night, we saw Mumford and Sons, Ludacris and Kesha, Mumford was great too, but the crowds at Ludacris and Kesha were slightly different, kinda rude =( Did not go Sunday

I was most disappointed this year with the sound. First few bands so loud it blew you out the tent. Evidently they were trying to drown on the stage next to them. Then the line up of music was odd. The only really good show was Will Tucker and he was awesome. Ended with the main highlighted end to the show a soul singer that didn't sound very good either and by then the sound was muted and awful. Very disappointing for this venue and price it cost. I doubt I will go back next year.

For the amount of money that you paid and the lineup that they had this year, you could not miss it! I had a great time. The beer was cheaper than it normally is. My only complaint is about the bathrooms- not enough and always a long line...but that is how most music festivals are. Bud light stage monitors were great! Wish all stages had them! Should open gates earlier on Friday. Time spent in line was ridiculous. Five Finger Death Punch walked off stage in a tantrum, left fans disappointed. Should have played again on Sunday or brought another band back out when they walked off!

My husband and I came to this event for four acts-Kravitz, Pixies, George Clinton and Flogging Molly. All sounded great and put on a good show and even I, at 5'2", was able to get a view of the stages. We are already planning for next year. There were a ton of concessions, although you do get stuck paying more than reasonable for even a bottle of water, because you are stuck having to purchase from the vendors. It was crowded, but what would one expect? The energy there was wonderful. Even with all the people there we did not see any fights or other things that can happen when all sorts of people get together in a crowded place. Hahaha! My husband and I were a little worried about the fact that we are randomly drug tested and there was a lot of smoke wafting about-not something we are necessarily against, but our employers are. Lovely park on the water. It was overall a great, exciting and fun time. Can't wait for next year!!

Back in the day, I spent some time at Grateful Dead shows. I always enjoyed the atmosphere as much as the music. This festival brought me back to those days. The crowd was laid back and friendly. Sitting on a blanket next to the Mississippi river on an 80 degree day-well it doesn't get much better than that. It seemed like every day brought better and better music--culminating in the amazingly talented Alabama Shakes. We loved watching the older gentleman sing the blues on the porch of the little house Friday night. Blues Traveler and Buddy Guy were AMAZING!. And I cant say it enough--Alabama Shakes was incredible. Before we left Sunday night, we had already decided that this is going to be an annual event for us.

Friday night was the best of all 3 although I will say that Aevenged and String Cheese were very good as well. The only bad thing is that there were so many great artists playing at the same time. You really have a hard time saying let's leave here and go two stages over to catch this person. I think the Orion stage should have been in the middle of Bud Light and FedEx stages because the line up off the chain over there. Any delay comming on stage made it hard to catch multiple bands. But I will say everyone was cool and the bands kicked butt. Food was good and beer was five bucks so not that bad. Cheaper than a ball game.

I only rated Beale St. Music Fest what I did because I'm into rock music and there just wasn't enough rock musicians scheduled to play for me. There was too many local and unknowns scheduled for me to want to attend again. I'll trade this weekend for a different one next year. I had a good time, it was very hot, and the 3 main stages that were there, only 2 which was the Orion which is the one the rock performers played. The food vendors were good. The one place that I looked for all weekend was a Tai food place that was on the total opposite side of the than the line of other food vendors. I just happened upon it. Bummed me out a bit, by the time I located it, I had already eaten at some noodle place...Overall, it was good, not great. Wish there were more rock band that performed.

Always enjoy this festival! Beale Street consistently gets a great, diverse line-up of acts and is a great value for the money. Not overly crowded and the festival goers are pretty friendly.

Apparently it was the equivalent to a blue moon when I went, because it was clear and warm all day, and the BSMF is notorious for having inclement weather. However, all that aside, it was a wonderful experience. For those interested, I recommend getting the 3 day pass when they are first put on sale, and get a hotel room near the park. Also, you may want to set aside a sizable budget, as food prices are high, and due to DHS presence, it is impossible to sneak food or drinks in. I also recommend getting social with some sponsor tents to get free refreshments.

Incredible shows in an incredible location along the mighty Mississippi. Layout was done well with each stage being a short 3-5 minute walk with all the beer/food you could want between each stage. Hundreds of port-a-potties in convenient locations as well. Never had to wait longer than 2 minutes in a bathroom line. Not enough trash cans though as the littering was over whelming and trash cans over flowing. The re-entry process before 8:30 PM was also an awesome addition which allowed you to check out a band, leave for Beale Street, then come back for a later performance. Tall boy bud light/heavies were $5 a piece which is a little expensive, but hey it's a music festival gotta make your money on the drunkards right? Overall awesome weekend that I will be back to every year possible. Food recommendations at show: gotta try a pronto pup, chicken on a stick, and some gumbo from the crawfish stand. Awesome stuff. Food recommendations in Memphis: Gus's fried chicken, Ching's Wings, and Central BBQ.

Had an amazing time. The park was nicely set up and the crowd was friendly and organized. Just wish that we could've brought our lawn chairs. Maybe more seating should be allotted. Otherwise would definitely go again.

I had an awesome time. Me and my girlfriend went for the first time and we both had a great time. Nothing is too expensive, if you get to the stage 30 mins early you can get great photos, and the lineup was diverse. Great weekend!

Hall and Oates were great and the crowd was really into them. It was pretty cool when Sheryl Crow joined them. I loved ZZ TOP, Gov't Mule, Davey Knowles, Slide Brothers and Mavis Staples.

Always a good time! Tip: Get your tix when they announce they are for sale, book a room and transportation then, too. For less than $600 you can get to see some great concerts and Beale St. This year, Black Crowes, Patti Smith and The Flaming Lips were the ones that killed it this year!

Despite the weather, the coordinators of this event have a way of scheduling oustanding talent so that you forget how cold and rainy the weather really is!

My first beale st music fest experience will be one to remember for sure. And not just because of the weather, although more of the plastic boards or hay andsand would of helpedthe mud situation. The sound on the fed ex stage was ok at best for both the black keys and the smashing pumpkins, two bands alot of people came to see. Other than those small complaints everything else was awesome. Bathroom lines werent awful and the food was excelent.

We had a good time at the music festival but there were a few things that really left us feeling less than satisfied. The Mud. I know they can't do anything about the weather and we really didn't mind the rain, but the mud is another story. putting down more planks to create walkways would go a long way to making The Food & Drinks. With the tight one time re-entry policy we figured there would actually be a good supply of food and drinks inside the event. Sadly the food was pretty much typical fair/festival options and the drinks limited to low-end beer & wine. With food allergies in our group it meant we had to leave in order to eat, and we barely drank. We also didn't get the memo that you could bring in a camelback and/or 1 bottle of water till after the event was over. Scheduling: Taking the largest act of the weekend and not having any real competing acts to spread the crowd out at all was not a great idea. The Black Keys were awesome but having everyone who attended at one stage during it was not.

Attended one day only, the last. Superior performers on a muddy site but that's outdoor music. Deer Tick was ok but not great. Gary Clark, Jr. was amazing, a real star. Flaming Lips hade a little technical difficulties with the lights delaying a few minutes. It was a spectacle once they got started. Only watched a few songs because Smashing Pumpkins was beginning. SP was sublime. Good mix of new and old songs. Wondrous visuals and excellent sound. Great crowd for a cold, rainy night. Memphis in May is inexpensive and fun. I would add video screens to the big stages. Good vibes.

Although you dont get the packed line-up of Jazzfest in New Orleans, you get varied music, popularity, and generational all in one venue without the expense of New Orleans. The other notable issue is music begins mid to late afternoon and runs late into the evening. So depending on age this may be an advantage or disadvantage to you.

You can't beat the variety and value with this festival!! If you buy early, you basically get in for $25.00 per day. Nice mix this year again, as always! Perfect, beautiful weather too!

Had a great year at the festival. The weather was unbelievable! The music was incredible. Memphis food and friendliness topped everything off perfectly! If I had to voice one complaint, it would be the port-a-potties. They had trouble keeping them stocked with TP and hand sanitizer.

I had only been to this music festival once in the past about 22 years ago and since then had heard horror stories about the crowds etc. but I was determined to see Elle King and Hozier so decided to go. We had a great time, everyone was nice and it was crowded but not like people had described to me in the past.

A very lackluster line-up this year. There were a few GREAT acts, but nowhere near what they have had in the past.

BSMF is fun as always. However getting there is also always a hassle, would it really be too much trouble for downtown to add some more temporary bike racks to the area? I had to resort to chaining my bike to a no parking sign, since there were no bike racks in sight.

The festival was great with a couple of exceptions. The worst part for the event was by 2 or 3pm on some days the port-a-johns were out of toilet paper leaving woman scrambling for whatever they could find. This is need of a serious fix since we spoke with a lot of long time attenders who say it happens every year. The second bad part was the flow of traffic along the stages. The walking paths need laid out in a better manner because the traffic actually was flowing through the crowd as you watched various concerts and then sometimes they would simply stop and stand in front of you while you had been standing for a long period of time to get your spot. Outside of those two things the food and people who were running it were great. Had a great time with great music, weather and beautiful setting.

It was well rounded to a very broad audience. It was definitely geared towards the local event attender or party crowd looking for more than a music festival. The line up was such a broad mix that I didn't care to attend all of any one day. Parking was ample and convenient. Good weather played nicely into a wonderful riverfront setting. The behavior of one band put a very bad taste in my mouth, but the balance of the acts put on good shows.

The Festival was awesome...The line up was better last year, but overall it was great this year as well. I think it more about the ambience tan the actual artist. If you go with the right group of friends, you will have an amazing time. :) I sure did! :) It made everything, the lack of great artists this year, and amazing experience being with with my AWESOME friends!

This will be my last music festival. The smoke (all kids) around us was worse than any concert I went to in the 70's. Everyone blew smoke in your direction and after 2 days - I could hardly talk. Wish I had bought an annoying perfume to spirtz in the direction of smokers. Bands begin and end at the same time... so everyone needs food and bathrooms at the same time. How about staggering that? Exiting on Friday night was dangerous. Festival workers moved everyone through to the port-potty area - so crowds could not move. Sad to see most were there to get drunk - not to listen to the music. Some of the sound guys were awful. I could hear bass and nothing else sometimes. (and my hearing is fine)

The festival was everything I hoped it would be and then some!! Ed Sheeran was absolutely amazing and I had the best seats I could ask for. Drinks, food, and music what more could you ask for. Hozier rocked the stage as well. I was also impressed by Elle King because I didn't realize how much I love her voice! If you didn't go then you missed out because it one of the best nights of my life!!!
