Steppenwolf produced some of the biggest hits of rock’s golden age, and they’ll continue to get wild with longtime and new fans when they head out for an exciting string of dates. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Steppenwolf was formed in 1967 by members John Kay, Goldy McJohn, and Jerry Edmonton, who all met in Los Angeles and began playing local shows.

Kay/Steppenwolf were outstanding !! The start of The Grass Roots opening act was delayed about 20 minutes and resulted in too short a performance - leaving us wanting more. Their performance - what there was of it - was also outstanding and should be provided as a main event next year.

It was a great experience. Even though it's John Kay and some new guys, they played really well. The Steppenwolf part was a bit short, maybe 75 minutes or so, but I mainly wanted to hear Born To Be Wild, which they segued into from Magic Carpet Ride. The encore was The Pusher. I wasn't a big Grass Roots fan, but they were entertaining.

My date and I enjoyed the concert. The videos of earlier Steppenwolf were an incredible addition to the show and well produced. Having the Grass Roots with John Kay & Steppenwolf was an excellent pairing and made for a wonderful evening. I haven't got up and danced at a concert in years!!!! Thank you for the walk down memory lane and helping me to feel young again.

John Kay and Steppenwolf proved why their music still has power and relevance - they rocked the house with a number of lesser-known songs played with authority and punch. Five stars rating! On the other hand, the Grass Roots played for about a half-hour, left out a bunch of their better-known songs, and wasted time with inane crowd banter. 2 stars rating!

Steppenwolf was ok. Not real impressed with them. But loved Grass Roots. Wish they would be the Headliners. Best performance last year and this year

What a night. I had one of the best concert nights in a long time at this concert! I would attend again and again if given the chance. I've always loved Steppenwolf and the Grass Roots was just a cherry on top!

Grass Roots made the night. Love their singing and wish that they had a longer set. John Kay was flat and a bit off key. Seems like he lost his voice.

We took my husband's sister and husband to the show. The Grass Roots were great. But oh my gosh, I must have forgotten how dirty Steppenwolf's song's were. I was very embarrassed. Not only were the lyrics flithy, they showed pictures of young girls, one had the name of Candy. I felt we were at a show of dirty OLD biker men! I was mortified to say the lease.

Only knew 3 SW songs: Born to be Wild, Magic Carpet Ride & Pusher so thought they would dominate the concert. Wrong! Those songs were at the end. Before them pure gold Rock & Roll songs performed at top headliner quality. Normally do not like introductions to every song but John Kay had something interesting to say; not just marking time. Why more of this music has not played on the radio is disappointing. Bottom line: this was a well played concert. Every member of the band was excellent. John Kay started with a strong voice and ended stronger as well a playing great guitar. Puzzling why so many empty seats; what a shame so many Rock fans missed out on some of best rock to hit SoCal this summer. Found SW has a awesome web site with a DVD concert for sale at $18 and $45 at Amazon. This show would make a great video. John Kay & SW paid respect to Vietnam era Vets especially those that were in country. After the concert checked out SW music; it reflected social concern way back when, such as Monster/Suicide/America (1969). Again, shame never got much radio play in the past. SW may have been a much bigger name and there would have been no empty seats.

Remarkable performance by both groups! Especially the harmony with the Grass Roots.. How the heck can they still "do it". They were super engaging as well. The rock vibe, slide show with old performances and energy from Steppenwolf- epic, incredible etc. They both still have it and can't wait to see them next year again & bring more of my friends.

Boring with a capital B.....I DIDN'T appreciate that the concert turned into a memorial service to Vietnam vets...As much as I appreciate each and every one of them, I paid to hear Rock & Roll music!!! The Grass Roots...Please...Enough!! Steppenwolf's John Kay still has great energy...but the show was extremely flat and the audience acknowledgement seemed to merit such...

Wow! I was blown away by the music and the old rock video that played simultaneously. For a 70 year old man John Kay can really rock out. Gary Link was great on vocals and bass. What a wonderful band that is still together. I hope John Kay & Steppenwolf will continue to tour.

Last Sunday evening, we attended a concert at the OC Fair. John Kay & Steppenwolf were the headliners. Mr Kay took the stage to front a band that has been performing since the 60's. The crowd was a majority of " older fans". We had a problem right away as the music started. It seems that older people take offense to any other fans actually standing up during the performance. A lady who was smiling & having a good time stood to dance in place & four to six other patrons immediately started calling to an usher to make the lady sit down. They were told that a person has the option to stand at their assigned seat if they choose to do so. The other patrons started yelling at her to sit down & didn't stop until she vacated her seat. She left & did not return. In my opinion, bands that have fans that are in their seventies should be sure they want to attend a public event. It's the last time we will. Good luck to Mr. Kay.

I like The Grass Roots and I like Steppenwolf, but each of these groups are very different and it's a little odd together. There was definitely a Grass Roots group of people that left after they performed and their was a Steppenwolf group that stayed. The concert was definitely not a sell out and with Steppenwolf having only 2 big hits, the crowd didn't really get into it until the end. The Grass Roots had so many hits, yet they didn't play them all as they only performed for 35 minutes. They should have performed twice as long with Steppenwolf cutting their setlist down. At first I didn't recognize John without his sunglasses on. The Steppenwolf video that they did was very cool as John's onstage vocals were in sync with the 1969 footage.

Great show overall. The Grass Roots opened with many of their hits. Then after the equipment change and some fine tuning from the roadies, the stage went dark and the wolf howled signaling the arrival of Steppenwolf. A total rock out showcasing the majority of their work. The audience singing along to each song.

Steppenwolf - Wish John had played more from the first album, far and away their best. But overall, he did play all the hits, and if you've never seen him, you should. Grass Roots - Please play Let's Live For Today at the right tempo! The way you played it sounded like the Quaaludes had just kicked in, and PLEASE lose that lame guitar solo - you could have played one of the other songs in its place. HOWEVER, on the whole, thanks for keeping this music alive, it's great to be able to still hear it.

John Kay & Steppenwolf were Amazing! Vocals, music were above excellence. Thank you Mr. Kay and Steppenwolf for sharing you gift of song, vocals and music. Love Magic Carpet Ride and of course, Born to Be Wild! The Grass Roots shared great musical talents. Thank you for your music. I would definitely see the show again and again. John Kay & Steppenwolf also had a video/graphics on two larges screens at OC Fair PacificAmphitheater which was fun seeing videos from back in the day - Fun and entertaining videos. Thank you.

The Grass Roots were fun, with everyone knowing every song. John Kay & Steppenwolf contrasted with more serious and heavier rock songs. We loved the guitar-work; and the videos and pictures were great. They added much more meaning to the songs, painting a picture of that time. John Kay has a strong voice, and is a thrill to see.

Steppenwolf can still rock like performers half their age. John Kay is 70 now but still can command the stage and put on a compelling performance. Played all their hits including Monster..Magic Carpet Ride..Born to be Wild and The Pusher bringing the the audience their feet cheering. Also there was a great visual display on the screens above the stage showing the band from the sixties and seventies.

Who would have thought that a group from the late 60's would still be able to rock the house? John Kay and Steppenwolf did a GREAT job reminding us why they are legends. I especially liked their rendition of the blues classic, "Hoochie Coochie Man." A shout out to the Grassroots as well... Never let me said that these groups don't have their own swagger.

The Grass Roots sounded great, knew all the songs they sang. The crowd sang along. John Kay and Steppenwolf sounded exactly like they did in 1970 when I saw them. They're a bit older and have more gray hair but their voices and music haven't changed. Not thats one good band! If you get a chance to see them, grab it, you'll rally enjoy their show!

the event was good overall but, I think the diehard fans enjoyed it much more. great venue, great sound (not too loud) but I'm a couple of years too young to truly appreciate the Steppenwolf music - besides their classic hits, of course. John Kay's voice was amazing taking his age into consideration. Not sure I liked the political messages so much. Loved tribute to veterans.
