Television

TELEVISION IN CONCERT:New York art punk luminaries Television remain one of the most important and influential band's bands of to emerge from the late '70s Lower East Side rock scene. Indeed, Pitchfork awarded their seminal 1977 debut Marquis Moon a perfect ten more than 25 years after its release -- a testament to the band's lasting importance among younger generations. Tom Verlaine and company have been flooring fans on their latest tour, and they'll continue to do so as they treat ticket buyers to more elegant playing, dignified onstage banter, and beautifully updated renditions of classics "Marquis Moon" and "Torn Curtain." BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Formed by childhood friends Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell in 1973, Television got their start playing such legendary New York City gigs as CBGB and Max's Kansas City.

Tom Verlaine is absolutely riveting in concert. The whole band was sharp, really stretching out each song and putting on a guitar clinic for the obviously numerous players in attendance. Can't wait to see them again.

After four decades and a few missed opportunities, I finally got to see Television, one of best bands to come out of he 1970s. Their set focused largely on Marquee Moon (they played the entire album except for "Torn Curtain"), although they also played a track from their eponymous 1992 release and a few other assorted rarities (included early single "Little Johnny Jewel"). Surprisingly, they did nothing from their second (and only other) official release, Adventure. Nonetheless, it was exciting for me to finally see them, and they did not disappoint. Excellent players playing excellent music.

This was the second time I have seen Television in Seattle. I have to say this was an awesome show mixing songs from "Marquee Moon" with tracks from other sources. They played a cut that didn't make "Marquee Moon" which was really good. I enjoyed the relaxed feel of the concert and the Neptune is one of my favorite venues - smaller and more intimate, but yet big enough to host a good number of fans. Performance, lighting and sound were all excellent.

Exceeded all expectations and hope of reliving the cosmic excitement of my youth. Amazing venue to experience Television. This band has always commanded top notch sound and atmosphere without any of the cheesy frostings that other outfits tend to glamor their performance with. Finally, after wandering around listening to bland bands for so long, Television came to Seattle, mind blown - mission accomplished. brava Television brava, please come around again soon, and at the Neptune. This was my first time seeing Television live. It was a great show. While I would have loved to see Richard Lloyd, Jimmy Rip was great (as of course Tom Verlaine is). Marquee Moon... Friction... Venus De Milo... yes yes yes.

Television and Tom Verlaine, getting better? Yes! This is the second show in Boston in the past year + and after touring on and off during the last visit the band has gotten even better. This is a guitar players band and although these songs are more than 40 years old they are as modern today as they were when first written. Verlaine is as unique a guitarist as Hendrix and Zappa and would make Roy Buchanan proud. There are very few bands I could go see weekly but this is one of them.

A little sad to not have Richard Loyd in the lineup, but Jimmy Rip was very good. The set was heavy on slower songs and very little from the 1992 album, which was somewhat disappointing. I heard the set was different the night before so that's good that they are mixing it up. Highlight was Tom's guitar playing on "Friction". Duh. Liked the Teragram Ballroom quite a bit, three bars and a great size. Management did not oversell the place which I appreciated.

I've been seeing the band since CBGBs. And I wasn't sure how good they'd be with out Richard Lloyd. But this show was excellent. The guitar work of Verlaine and Ripp was all I'd hoped for. These guys don't tour often, so see them if you get a chance. One of the best this year.

The concert was plenty long (1.5 Hours). THEY DO NOT PLAY FRICTION! I guess Richard Loyd owns that song. Their "lead" guitarist was great, did a lot of the heavy lifting. He has been with the band for years. Tom Verlain could barely sing. I think he forgot the words to See No Evil. It's pretty hard to forget "I see no evil," but he barely sang those words.

Television put on an incredible, memorable show. The venue was perfect -- a longtime Boston venue with a history of its own was the best place to see a band of such impact. I had a really good time.

The only thing fancy about this band is the incredible way they ROCK out a song. Television is totally about the music! And I had the best night!

Fantastic show! Tom was solid and more personable than when I last saw them at the 688 club back in 1981. Loved the rich sound of the old Vox amps. Jimmy Rips playing was a spiritual experience!
