The Waterboys were great the opening band The Bluebonnets were great. The venue was really cool, the problem was all the people running their loud mouths during the show...I mean these people never shut up, handlebar mustache bicycle hat hipster man talking the whole damn show (you know who you are). It was ridiculous, and the 3 women :like oh my god I went to Nordstrom rack and got this and it is soooo slimming, you have to go". For the love of God people respect the music and shut your pies holes for 2-hours. Nobody cares what you did last weekend, if they did you would have more Facebook friends.

One lucky day. We arrived at The Civic just a few minutes before the doors open and didn't know what to expect. We wound up dead center in the front row (a general admission show with seats!) and were surrounded by some great people. The show was excellent. The sound at the venue was superb. Mike Scott. What a treasure. About The Civic. You can park right across the street and there are places to eat and drink before/after the show within a block. Great location.

I've been a fan of the Waterboys since I was about 13 (I'm in my 20s now). When I saw the band was doing their first North American continental tour in six years I definitely wasn't going to miss out on checking them out live. The tickets were more than reasonably priced, the band's merchandise was even more reasonable and they put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen. This concert is going to be hard to top for me, it was that special. Mike Scott's voice hasn't change hardly at all over the years, and if anything has gotten even better. The musicians in the band are top-notch and they played a perfect set. I can't recommend catching this tour enough.

Mike Scott was wonderful, as usual. The fact that he put a whole CD of disparate WB Yeats' poems set to music is a feat unto itself. That they are all great songs is another as well. Unfortunately, he will most likely not get any major recognition for this ( a Grammy nomination, yeah, right). But his fans don't care. We love him and the fantastic Steve Wickham! The band of local musicians that subbed for the European Waterboys seemed like they'd been playing with Mike for years. The only problem was with the vocals. Mike's was hard to hear in the beginning, but was then corrected, but the female singer was never amped properly and some of the songs suffered for it.

I have been waiting to see Mike Scott & the Waterboys since about 1985 or '86 and finally Wednesday night at Town Hall my wait was over! It was well worth the wait! What an outstanding show! Loud the way I like it! There isn't anything I didn't like about this show! Mike Scott has a great stage presence coupled with his uber creativity that spills out song after song. Really dig his style! Nice fashion sense. The band of musicians gave a stellar performance! And oh that fiddle!!!! The venue is near perfect, friendly attendants good sound and not a bad seat in the place in my humble opinion. Can't wait to see them again. [ perhaps this coming summer!] Thanks for a great performance!!!!!!!!!

Its always an interesting and challenging adventure when you hear new music for the first time live. Add to that the completxity and verbosity of Yeats and that challenge is multiplied. Mike Scott and the Waterboys were up to the task, presenting An Appointment with Mr. Yates in its entirety. Ranging in musical genres from rock to Irish folk, to folk and blues, Yeats words were musically set in gorgeous arrangements. The concert included a great degree of theatricality with masks worn for some songs and the performers often walking on and off staff in the middle of songs. Mike Scott had his dance moves down as well as other gestures. The tunes were listenable and the presentation wonderful. Go see the Waterboys-they said they are coming back to NY in the summer. The encores were old Waterboys tunes with Don't Bang the Drum as the standout.

Absolutely tremendous show - band could not be tighter, tremendous musicianship nu Mike Scott, Steve Wicman and the whole band. Putting Yeats poems to Celtic/Rock music worked perfectly - really interesting. If you get the chance to catch this show, do not hesitate - go, you'll have an amazing evening. Will definitely check them out next time the are in town.

The Waterboys were very good and the trip down memory lane was fun, however it was a very short concert--I expected more music. It was under 2 hours long and they didn't do much of their old stuff that I wanted to hear. The sound system was off and the roadies were on the stage adjusting guitars during several numbers...seemed like they were not well rehearsed..and the "Whole of the Moon" lacked energy. Lead singer was a lot of fun and the fiddle was excellent...would have liked to just see more...not worth the $$$ I paid.

Mike Scott once again was in top form, but in several songs the keyboards sounded a bit tinny and other instruments weren't coming through clearly. Even the vocal quality seemed less than what one expects from a reputable NYC venue, such as Town Hall.

I knew before the show that I would be experiencing something very special, and I did. Lots of NYC music royalty in the house--James Maddock, Steve Earle, Wilie Nile, Ken Rockwood of Rockwood Music Hall. An Appointment with Mr. Yeats was almost operatic, the band covered the entire album. It was just what one would expect from the mystical, spiritual Mike Scott. The evening ended on a perfect note with Whole of the Moon. Town Hall is a lovely venue, but the security staff member running up and down the aisles chastising people for using flash was distracting. I was also surprised that latercomers were seated DURING some of the songs, not during breaks (I wouldn't have seated them at all, the rest of us managed to be in our seats on time).

After being a fan since the 80's I finally saw them live. It was at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. Great show and a good venue. Unfortunately the sound engineer was asleep at the wheel. Even though only Mike Scott and his Fiddler were only original members it was still good. They carry the lyrical side while the tight young players carry the rocking part. Excellent musicians to be sure. However I missed the sloppiness of the Irish / Scottish band, but as I said the original guys brought that themselves.

Variety Playhouse is absolutely my favorite concert venue. It's comfortable, intimate--a great place to spend time with your favorite musicians. Seeing and hearing The Waterboys perform at the Bowery Ballroom on Friday night was pure pleasure. After thirty years of inspired song writing Mike Scott has a huge repertoire of songs to drawn on. He is unmatched as a singer-songwriter. From "We Shall not be Lovers" to "You in the Sky" to "Mad as the MIst and Snow" Scott charts the full range of the human heart and spirit. Scott's interpretation of Yeats' poetry is inspired. (As I overheard someone say, Yeats needs Mike Scott as much as Mike Scott needs Yeats.) Steve Wickam's fiddle took every song to a new level of emotional intensity. The "American Waterboys" were a great addition to the band. (Bravo to Malcolm on bass and Jay on guitar.) Like reading a great novel or viewing any great art, Mike Scott's songs of love, pain, longing, and searching left me by the end of the show just that much happier to be a human and to be alive.

Mike Scott continues to exhude intense charisma: poetic and rock n roll at the same time. They played the more traditional sounding songs as well as the raucous older stuff. My mind was blown and I still can't get this concert out of my head. The high energy level blasted through the entire set. They haven't lost one ounce of energy and Mike looks amazing. GO SEE THEM

One of the best concerts, hands down, I have ever had the pleasure of attending. Mike Scott is so clearly humble and honest about the gift of his music. His voice is a dream that reaches the soul, and tugs at the heart. The magic of the violin was felt on a physical level. Having said all that, they absolutely rocked the house out! Opened with our old favorites, which set the tone for the night. Filled with gratitude in Minnesota.

Possibly the most under appreciated and under the radar band in rock history. I expected Mike and Steven to be nothing short of inspiring, and the rest of the band to be very good. All my expectations were surpassed by an order of magnitude. This ranked in my top 5 concerts of all time, and believe me I've been going to concerts since the mid-sixties (last century) and have seen the best of the best in large and small venues. Mike Scott deserves to be revered as a songwriter and performer among the likes of Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Dylan, Lennon and McCartney and any other your personal favorites.

Wonderful, varied, and exhilarating concert. From the moment they kicked off with Strange Boat and Fisherman's Blues to their culmination two hours later with Be My Enemy, The Waterboys put on one of the best shows I have ever seen by any band. They are as good and better than ever. The 'big' Waterboys sound is breathtaking, but the intimidate Raggle Taggle Gypsy with only Mike Scotts and Steve Wickham really showcased their talent, And Wickham, so integral to The Waterboys sound, was phenomenal on the fiddle. Can't wait for the opportunity to see them again.

Amazing show! The band was full of energy and very tight. Mike Scott's passion is infectious. The song selection hit on the best of the old and a sprinkling of the new. Steve Wickham was stellar. It was a half full venue but those in attendance got more than their money's worth from a veteran singer/songwriter and the young guns he brought along in this new incarnation of The Waterboys. The crowd was on its feet and singing along from start to finish.Would go see them again and again. GREAT SHOW!

I tell you, I went to the concert knowing a good bit of their music but really only loved 4-5 songs. But when they played, I found myself enjoying every song. The downside was that I brought my wife for our anniversary. Bang on the Ear was by far our favorite song, (we walked out to it on our wedding introduction) and I was so very very disappointed that they didn't play it.

At the gorgeous renovated Bergen PAC, which I will always think of as the old John Harms, and though the house was only half full on a Wednesday night, it brought tears to my eyes, not only because the music was so absolutely amazing (the talents of these men, the poetry of their souls and the energy of their bodies, made a music so awe inspiring it's tough to describe) but seeing the predominantly baby boomer crowd loud and alive and wooting and dancing in the aisles and yelling back to the band, well, that alone was worth the price of admission -- and more. Great mix of old and new tunes.

For what is going on with the personal of the band and the decision to not bring the full "real" band over to North America, this performance was just fine. I could never really knock the Waterboys but I feel like the basic setlist for this tour is a little stale. Relying heavily on the "This Is The Sea" album which is not even the album they are about to celebrate an anniversary of. It's just alot of the same old songs. The rarest song of the night, "She Tried To Hold me". Musicianship was fantastic.

The larger than life, grandiose, and highly intelligent music of The Waterboys that I remembered from the early 1990s was even better than I remembered at the Shubert. Mike Scott's distinctive, soulful voice drew us in but kept us at a distance in a beguiling Celtic way. The songs from his album "An Appointment with Mr. Yeats" were intelligent and bold and, as my friend Alice said, transformative. When I could take my eyes of the stage--which always seems with reach at the Shubert--I closed them to enjoy the blend of sounds with pure delight. While Mike Scott masterfully choreographed every move anybody made on the stage, the concert was first and last about the music. Please come back to New Haven, Waterboys!

The show was good however the sound system at the Wilbur was atrocious. The music was very loud, which in itself isn't a bad thing but the sound quality stunk, sounded tinny and was tough on the ears. HUGE sound in this small venue made it especially exciting to be there. Saw them a month ago at the Shubert in New Haven with proper theater seating and that event and crowd were HO-HUM by comparison. Standing room only except for us woggling into the VIP seating. After 45 years of attending rock show the teenager within, that wants to go right to the edge is alive and well. Mike Scott brings it all.WICKED confidence and HUGE stage charsima, songwriting, guitar playing with his trusted musical equal Steve Wickham the violinist taking that instrument places it does not often go.

The show was a unbroken string great versions of great songs. The musicians were top notch and clearly enthusiastic about the concert. The only drawback to the night was that the stage was incredibly high and I was in the front row. I couldn't even see the musicians in the back and only about half of the musicians in front. These guys brought the house down with a 2+ hour set of musical perfection. I didn't think it was even possible, but they sound better live than they do recorded - you get the full "big sound" that made this Dublin rock band famous. This was a great night of full tilt rock and roll. Not a night of going-through-the-motions set of greatest hits. A lot of new songs. The whole band was tight and terrific. Drummer was awesome! (I'm partial to thumpers.) Keyboard and violin players were quite flamboyant, which is great in a live show. All players were talented. Great ensemble! Great solos! My first time seeing Mike Scott live (other than on youtube). His singing and playing were great, both on guitar and piano. No idle chatter between songs. He appeared to be a bit surly, in a Van Morrison sort of way. Like: I'm an artist, giving it hell start to finish, don't interrupt me, just dig the music.

I have waited over 30 years to see Mike Scott and the Waterboys live and I am glad I waited. The venue, The Birchmere is great to be up close to see and hear the band. They played 5 songs from the new album but still played some of the old ones that made me a fan in the early 80's. Songs were as fresh as ever and Mike's musician rocked it out!!!

This band has many talents to compliment Mike Scott, including legendary bassist from the Muscle Shoals era David Hood as well as the legendary fiddler, and longtime Waterboys member, Steve Wickham. Together they deliver an amazing mix of Rock and Blues with a Celtic feel. The new stuff is truly incredible, and the old stuff still kicks! More proof that artistic talent gets better with age. Highly recommend going to see this band. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. It's a great night out!

Good stuff first: Mike Scott and Steve Wickham have never sounded better, and the rest of the lineup on this tour is legendary: Muscle Shoals Swamper David Hood on bass, wunderkind Zach Ernst on guitar, drummer Ralph Salmins and Riff-Raff lookalike Brother Paul on keyboards. The new album is solid, and the playlist was a good mix of old and new. The Birchmere's FlexStage is an intimate space and a good place to see a show if you don't mind standing for 3+ hours; there really are NO seats. The bad: The FlexStage's acoustics are pretty good, but some quirk makes sound from the back of the room (i.e., the dining room) VERY loud in the front of the room. More than once, conversation from the back was loud enough for the band themselves to hear it, and Mike Scott actually stopped the show at one point to ask whether he was interrupting. Seriously, Birchmere: can you do something about this? I had the strong impression that this annoyed Scott so much it might have shortened the show, and the encore was a single song ("Fisherman's Blues," of course). I'll go back to the Birchmere \u2014 it's almost walking distance for me \u2014 but will think twice about seeing more shows in the FlexSpace.

I am (was) a big fan but they didn't play all their greatest songs. I know that's up to the band what to play. They developed their top songs in the eighties and I thought they should have played more of them variety playhouse, excellelnt venue, and excellent area for a pint and a meal

Excellent performance, and enjoyable show! After all of these years, they still sound great! I adored the Prince cover, as well!

With another version of The Waterboys in tow, Mike ripped through songs as far back as the first album all the way to the current one. Legendary bass player David Hood of The Swampers held down the bottom end with Brit legend Ralph Salmins on drums. Brohther Paul rocked the keys battling away with fiddlemaster Steve Wickham throughout the show. Every time you see this band they get better...a tour not to be missed.

This was my third time seeing the Waterboys. They never disappoint. Since being turned on to the magic of Mike Scott and the gang around 1992, I have done my part to share that magic with as many folks as possible. The show was a real treat and was recorded for the PBS series, On Canvas. I can't wait to experience it again when the show airs in January... I think. The Electric Factory in Philly is a pretty industrial-type place, and a great place to see a show. On this night however, the setting was much more subdued with black drapery and seating... these elements combined with the band's enthusiasm and talent made for a very memorable night of music. When I got home I was immediately looking on-line to see if there was another area show I could make, but it was not meant to be. Hope they come back soon.

I felt compelled to comment on an amazing night.Usually am wary of new releases which tend to eat up the set list but the new material was fantastic especially White Dove and Mist and Snow..Opened with Strange Land then Fishermans Blues..Great venue sold out, sound was great and the band tight..Played a couple hours with plenty of older songs.Lucky I scored the tickets and hope the boys come back soon!

Big fan of Mike Scott/Waterboys since the 80's, first chance to see them live. The Civic Theater is a small, newly opened venue and was a great place for the show. The good: the band was tight, Mike Scott was in good voice, the set list covered their whole career, and the sound system was good. The not-so-good: there was too much dead air between some songs as Mike seemed to be discussing something with either Steve or other bandmates at various times(changing up set list?).This slowed the momentum somewhat. There was also a poetry recitation of Yeats' Second Coming performed in masks(maybe for Halloween?) that I didn't quite get. Bottom line: talented musicians, good variety of acoustic and electric songs.Glad I got to see them.

Great show in Little Five Points, Atlanta. They did a tribute song for Lou Reed that was spot on. The Waterboys definitely get down and the fiddle player was amazing.

The lads put on a brilliant show in Atlanta. One of the best live shows I have seen, and I've seen many. If they come back next year, I'll be there. The Lou Reed tribute was nicely done and heartfelt. A great evening for fans young and old.
