Katy Perry
California-born Katy Perry skyrocketed from aspiring gospel music singer at the turn of the century to full-blown touring pop songstress roughly a decade later. Though her Christian rock debut, 2001’s “Katy Hudson,” didn’t move many units, her sophomore set seven years later made up for it. Perry switched to mainstream pop with 2008’s “One of the Boys,” and that Capitol Records release spawned three Top 10 singles —“I Kissed a Girl,” “Hot n Cold” and “Waking Up in Vegas” — along with two Grammy nominations. Perry, also known for her bubbly personality and vibrant wardrobe choices, has openly acknowledged that she’s lyrically influenced by her personal life, and the multi-platinum pop vixen’s most recent studio set, 2013’s “Prism,” backs that up.
