Acoustics in the venue were poor. Sound guy either didn't know what he was doing or couldn't cope with the poor acoustics. Too loud, all base, barely audible lyrics and melody... And I know it wasn't the band because I saw Helio Sequence in Tucson and they were wonderful. Oh... We left before Menomena too k the stage so I can't speak to how they were.

excellent show - initially went to see Helio Sequence who never disappoint (the happiest drummer in music these days) and really enjoyed Menomena

They only thing i had a problem with was the venue. the acoustics were terrible. They need to fix the placement of The Basement's speakers. Menomena did a phenomenal job though... would have been better if the basement wasn't so terrible.

Finally got to see Menomena and Bowery Ballroom was partially the reason. There is no better venue in NYC, really. Seeing them live definitely enhanced and expanded my perception of their music. These guys are experienced performers who are also very cool and kept an easy-going vibe until the music kicked in and they were taking you on a fantastic journey. I'm sure the 3rd original member would have added yet another layer, nonetheless I thoroughly enjoyed the set and can't wait to see them again when they come back around.

Disclaimer: I was on the Front Row....that automatically makes everything epic. Nevertheless, this band's charisma is simply admirable. From the keyboardist with the big hair who cannot seem to keep his mouth closed, to the pony-tailed lead singer who alternates between an alto sax and a bass guitar. They keep you guessing, and truly reveal an entertaining show that is worth any music fan's time and money.

These guys put on a GREAT show. It was an fairly small crowd but everyone was into it. They played some new stuff but wowed the crowd with the favorites. The guys that played with them were truly talented and all made it a great time. So glad I was there and hope to see them again soon! Don't miss it!

The band was good, but I think they could book better venues. I traveled to Columbia Mo from St. Louis, even though I knew they'd play here the next night, because the Gargoyle is the worst small venue ever. Menomena put on a great show, even with the loss of one of their key members, but his absence was noticed. Especially since the keyboardist that replaced him seems to be quite a muppety tool. Overall, it was a good show though, and I'm glad I went.

I've been waiting to see Menomena since I started listening to them which was quite some time ago. All I can say is that they fulfilled every expectation I could have put on them with a phenomenal live show. Each song they played sounded even better than the recorded version, and they played my favorites to perfection. Menomena was magnificent to see. The opening bands, The Globes and Tu Fawning, were also very enjoyable and set up the show nicely. Great show.

Suckers and Menomena had wonderful stage presence. Interaction with the crowd was great. Even without knowing much of the discography of either band, still had a really great time.

Menomena are great, but they are one of the best live bands I've seen. This show was amazing. They are so talented and raw and charming and energetic

The show was beyond excellent. Both of the opening bands were very good, so good i actually purchased cd's and limited edition posters which i actually got all the bands, including menomena to sign. Menomena played nearly the entire mines album with some older songs which were just as good. I was Impressed with the multitude of instruments they all played. It was a surprise to have every band be so friendly while meeting them, it was definitely worth the ticket price.

Great band, Great opener, One of my favorite venues. Webster and Bowery offer the best sound in NYC.

...you'll love them live. Strongly recommended. They did a pretty good job of mixing the old and the new. They are incredibly tight. If you are looking for them to jam i wouldn't get my hopes up, but they do a great job of recreating the albums while offering the live sound and experience. The drummer was quite enthusiastic too. I missed the first opener, but the second one, Suckers, was quite good. My first time at Royale since it became Royale. Still good.

I lvoe this band and all. But it seems like they just had a bad night. They were off on a few songs. Had some sound issues. Drums feel apart at one point. It was just bad luck the whole night. But besides all that, they were soooooooo good! I've been waiting to see them for 3 years now, and despite the few screw ups, I had a great time, and will most definitely see them again.

Had never seen them live. Their music almost sounds electronic sometimes, so it was amazing to see them do it all live with instruments. The drummer is incredible, fireworks, and he sings too. In fact they all sing, all write the music... a truly democratic band. They were tight, and seeming mostly sober except for the keyboardist who was on "Thera-Flu". Hehe, they were awesome. Played all the hits.

The show started with an energetic opening band called the suckers. They had really good energy and got the crowd moving. The second band was forgettable and I'll leave it at that. Then came Menomena, they've recently added a 4th member for live shows, his name is Joe and he rocked. Since menomena like to play so many instruments Joe allowed the band to do everything live that they accomplish in studio. I hadn't heard any of the new songs from the new album but the band played a nice mix of new and old songs. I can't wait for them to come back to seattle to see them again.
