Dinosaur Jr.
Dinosaur Jr. have a sound just as monstrously huge and playful as their name would suggest. Ticket buyers swoon for the monolithic volume, fuzzed-out riffs, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and passionate angst these alt rock legends bring to the stage. Long-haired leader J.

I wasn't sure what to expect. I remember a lot of their songs, but not sure that I can name more than a few. Wellm Dinosaur Jr. rocked the house. They played all their hits. Show was really loud (I mean really loud). If you think you liked a couple of their songs, I gaurantee you will love the entire show.

The sound at the Vic was terrible. You could barely make out the vocals for the majority of the show. The band sort of looked like they were being forced to play. I have never seen them live before and while I like their music, I would not go out of my way to see them again. All in all a pretty average show.

Dinosaur Jr is a briliant band on record and legendary for their live, excruciatingly loud sound. The band played songs from their sturdy new album, a few from the Lou-less albums ( "Thumb" "Get Me" and "Feel the Pain") all of which were surprising and awesome to hear from the one and only line up of J, Lou, and Murph. But the band only played "Raisins" "In a Jar" and "Forget the Swan" from the early albums. Two songs I would have loved to hear (although "Jar" and "Swan" were incredible) were "Severed Lips" and "Sludgefeast" both of which J and Lou offered to us as an encore. J took all his guitar heroics to the max and fried our minds with his epic solos and at one point had four guitars laying around him squelling with feedback. J said maybe three things to the audience, all of which were hilarious (best was his deadpan "whoo".) The band sounded great and put a big smile on my face just to see the guys up there. Great show. Two thumbs up. Oh yeah, bring earplugs but take them out just to experience the enormous volume and power of this incredibly unique band.

Although the idea of Dinosaur Jr. getting back together for a concert sounded great I was sorely disappointed by Saturday's concert. Never once greeting the fans or showing appreciation for those who paid almost 30 dollars for a ticket, Dinosaur Jr. half-heatedly went into their set list. The vocals were almost impossible to hear over the excruciatingly loud guitars. I love concerts but if I can't hear a single word being sung, something is definitely wrong. Although the finale of the night was somewhat lively, the rest of the show was basically a boring mess.

Sound sucked. Guitars were too loud, you had to listen for the bass and the vocals were inaudible. They played for only an hour and a half. They could have rocked out for much longer. Coming from Athens I hate getting gouged for over priced drinks. $6.75 for a Maker's and cola? Could of had two for that price here.

Just 2 observations on the Middle East. I love seeing shows there, but a couple of poor performances on Saturday night. Not by Dino, they were great on both nights. 1. Bartender downstairs. Dude had a bad attitude, obviously didn't want to be there and seemed to be taking it out on everyine by going extra slow. It happens i guess, i was kinda hoping his manager would see him and straighten him out. 2. The asian girl taking tickets upstairs. not sure if it was her first night, or her first show period. She didn't understand that when you tear the ticket, you're supposed to give half back to the ticket holder. I'm not kidding, she didn't understand this. A quote: "you have a wristband, you don't need the ticket" you can't even make this stuff up.

They've always been loud - but are now loud loud louder. They are also playing so well with each other - really strong set and great, tight playing. Not much chitchat - none with each other (not a big surprise) and very little with the audience, except when Lou was trying to fill in space when Murph took off at one point and noone knew where he went. Most of the set was from the new album, which is pretty killer, though they did please the crowd with some oldies and goodies - my personal favorite being "Freak Scene."

Anxiety, in a good way, is what i felt days before the show was up. The whole long drive to the Troub i was excited to see my favorite band perform in a rather intimate setting. To my surprise as i was waitning in line i saw J walk about three feet away from me!! Enough of that. The perfromance was just amazing. J let his soul take over and play those awesome guitar licks while Lou played bass awesomely crazy. Let's not forget about Murph. Oh man!!! his drums skills are so freakin emazing!!! I just felt a great vibe from the moment they started playing Tarpit until the very last second of Sludgefeast. there was one thing that was king of bugging, it was not Dino J but the venue. the mixing was kinda crappy at times because the vocals would be swallowed by the band's loud, but great, playing and this one crazy, perhaps drunk, lady that randomly stepped in front of my girlfriend and i and started swirling back and forth making things uncomfortable. but other than that, i would totally see them again.

Mascis wailed. No question. Maybe I'm getting old but it was loud, painfully loud, and I really didn't enjoy many of the tunes played. But as long as Jay did a 5 minute solo at the end of each song it didn't matter. Also: Blue Point on tap was just what the doctor ordered

Dinosaur Jr can still shred it after all these years, classic tunes from their first 3 albums as well as some new jams. Great set and Lou Barlow kills! Dinosaur Jr. is still the real deal! I wish they would've played more tunes from You're Living All Over Me but I can't complain.

Let me start by stating that I am a HUGE Dinosaur, Jr fan. I have every album, EP, import...you name it. First off, I do not think this is the best Dinosaur, jr line up. But that is just a personal preference. Regardless, I was totally bored by the show and the set list. The fans suffer because this trio didn't record much of the material that became Dinosaur, Jr and J Mascis & the Fog. Too many eras were ignored at this show and great songs never played (and not just at the show I saw - but also on the tour). Basically, I think Mascis is lazy. he acts lazy, sounds lazy, and it feels like he is doing this because he needs the money. Sure, he has never been the king of charisma - but he played energizing shows. This one was a snore. I loved hearing a few of my favorites. But they were not worth the price of admission. Sorry j - I am moving on. Ps: I should add that I had seen Wilco the night before. Their live show made dinosaur jr look pretty junior.

Most of the songs were off their new album so I didn't recognize them but I was still blown away and into every one of em. That is hard to say about most bands. My second time seeing Dinosaur Jr. at Terminal 5 and both times have been unforgettable. The 25th Anniversary of You're Living All Over Me show last night was an all together great time. J, Dinosaur, and all the special guests killed it. Seeing Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth was an incredible experience. She literally screamed her lungs out to "Don't". I've seen alot of punk shows, this one was up there with my favorites.

For one night, I was in the presence of a rock god. J Mascis is as amazing live as he sounds on his albums, not to mention the rest of the crew. His solos live were truly epic, totally brought the house down. It was also a nice change of pace to have an interview with the band before they hit the set. J Mascis is still as awkward and sleepy sounding as ever and hearing Marlow being very candid about their past breakup was revealing. One of my favorite concert experiences.

D.J. Opened their set loud and hard. When I first laid my eyes on his 3 half stacks I knew it was gonna be everything I hoped for. I read a few reviews of people complaining because the guitar is too loud and the sound levels are wrong...these are the reasons you go to see Dinosaur Jr. LIVE in concert. If you wanna hear them play just like the album, forget it. J's solos and the bands durability make their songs unique and different every time. I stood about 12 feet away from the 3 half stacks and J...My ears are ringing like there is no tommorow and I love it. The Poster Art for this chicago gig was a real bonus, I scored a guitar pick from the roadie and pasted it on this lively artwork. If you wanna hear D.J. play at a comfortable and understandable sound level listen to it @ home. Come to the show if you wanna feel it in your bones.

Opening act was absolutely terrible. It was Easy Action, and the lead "singer" looked like an angry Bill Bilicheck who screamed the entire time. Sound quality was poor, we could not understand a word he was saying. Dinosaur Jr. was much better. Sound quality was still not great. The venue is very small, so I think they just had too many speakers for such a small space. They played all the songs we were looking forward to hearing and then some. Played for about 1.5 hours including the encore.

By sheer chance I was in New York for this and how lucky I was. My first gig in NYC and I was warned about the sound and I could get ear plugs behind the bar. Introduced so wonderfully well by Henry Rollins the first part was great to hear the first album in full. Yes it was loud but definitely worth getting the full effect without the plugs. The second part only got better especially with the special appearances along the way making it an incredible introduction to gigs in New York.

Of all the bands that have reunited from Classic Indie Rock, Dinosaur Jr has definitely had the most impact!! Not only has their 3 Albums been great, but they also put on the best live show I have ever seen! This was clearly evident last Wednesday at Music Hall of Williamsburg! The rhythm section of Lou Barlow on bass and Murph on drums goes exceptionally well with Alt-Rock Guitar King J Mascis's massive riffs. Those riffs and his solos are perfect for his brilliant songwriting. They were nice and loud as usual and Dinosaur Jr's songs are always fun to listen to. They opened the set with the classic Bulbs of Passion. They also played other gems like: In A Jar, Freak Scene, Watch The Corners, Start Choppin', Budge, Feel The Pain, Rude, Pieces and Sludgefeast. They were as tight as can be and the show flew by again too! I would definitely see them live in concert again and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see a great rock band!! I hope they play in the New York Area again soon and I also hope Dinosaur Jr makes another Album sometime in the near future!!

The junior sounded great as always as they played all of You're living all over me. Afterwards, a parade of 80's era musicians joined them to play Dinosaur songsas well as songs from their own bands-- Johnny Marr playing the boy with the thorn in his side; Black Francis played tame. Pretty dang cool. Terminal 5 wasn't as annoying as i remembered it-- last time i was there it seemed that the audience was outnumbered by abrasive secuity a-holes. A guy right infront of me puked on the ground moments before dino came on but that isn't T5's fault. Great show.

Excellent band. Excellent set list. Excellent special guests (including the excellent opener, Kurt Vile). Seriously, what more could you ask for from a 25th anniversary show. After playing \u2018You re Living All Over Me in it s entirety, the band proceeded to play another 14 songs, both new and old, with various musicians filling in on vocals and/or instruments. OK I know I am going to be outnumbered here because the place was packed and everyone seemed to enjoy the concert but I could not get past the poor sound. I don't know if it was Dinosaur Jr. or The Paradise. I love their music and was listening to it all week including the fantastic knew album. They sounded like the high school kids next door to me practicing in their garage trying to play Dinosaur Jr. It might be the venue because it seems to me that the sound is better at places like House of Blues then at the smaller clubs like The Paradise or The Middle East. I liked Hush Arbors. I was listening to their music all week as well. I fully understand anyone who rips me apart on this review because Dinosaur Jr is a great band but I was disappointed.

I still can't believe that I was able to watch J Mascis shred from 15 ft away for less than $25. That has got to be the deal of the decade. Very glad I made the trip from Cincinnati to Bloomington. Saw them at 2012 Mid-point Music Festival in September at an outdoor venue, and a club setting was even better. To call the show amazing is an understatement. Excelent show. I was surprised that the pace wasn't sold out. J Mascis had 3 Marshall stacks behind him and kind of swayed to the song while Lou Barlow Jumped around with his base. Murph played the drums really well. I kind of liked how they played short experimental, atonal, jam snippets between "real" songs. Classic, highly influential indie rock band, Influencing Shoegazing, lo-fi, grunge, and alternative acts of the 90s. Did I mention they are LOUD? Might take a few days for your hearing to recover to 100%. One more thing- I love this club, but it was kind of hard to find. It is tucked in behind a "Show Girls" club, in a strip mall inside of a mall drive. You can't see it unless you know where you are going and you can't see it from 28th street or the mall drive really.

As an extreme fan of Dino Jr, I love their music and have all of their albums. But just know they sound nothing like their albums at all when they play live. It is all heavy distortion and reverb, similar to Thrash Speed Metal. I saw them in 2009 when they came last time and it was rough around the edges, but you could still make out the different songs and sing along. I was surprised by how it sounded, but was still able to enjoy the show. This time, however, it was so distorted I couldn't make anything out, even the different guitar riffs blended into one loud distortion sound. I saw some people heading out early, which was good, because that freed up tables for my GF and I. I just wanted to stay to hear "Feel the Pain" by that point, and then I was going to bail too. But then I realized that for the price of the ticket, and parking, I should just enjoy the noise until it was over. It was a short concert. I think they played an hour and ten or so. No encore, just "this is our last song." NOISE NOISE NOISE and then they left. Very disappointed, but in the end, I can say I saw them live.

I've been a Dinosaur Jr. fan since the early days. I probably listened to Dinosaur, Your Living All Over Me, and Bug more than any other records when I was in middle school and high school. Bug is especially one of my favorites. That record opened my ears and mind to a lot of music for years to come. Not only did they play the whole thing perfectly, but they really stretched the songs out in very interesting ways that I really didn't expect. Watching J. Mascis stand in front of four Marshall stacks blowing his long, now grey, hair was something to behold. Having Henry Rollins interview them before the show was a fantastic idea. He played the roll of the super fan perfectly. I would highly recommend this show to anyone who enjoys their music.

Henry Rollins' interview of Dinosaur Jr. was a high point in the show; clearly he puts a lot of thought into his questions. J. Mascis' verbal responses were pretty concise, sometimes bordering on terse. The guitar was loud, as expected, and the band played well. A good show for fans.

Of course the band was amazing. There has been nothing lost by a few years of not playing together. And the interview by Henry Rollins...genius addition. To have the two greats of the members of Dinosaur Jr and Henry Rollins on the same stage, talking music, chemistry, history...absolutely magical. And the mutual respect present was obvious. Dinosaur Jr is three independently consumate musicians who, granted, under the direction of J. Mascis for this project/band, are all incredible at what they do, and even more incredible at becoming one unit pouring some of the most cohesive and original music ever made. I was up at the stage for the first part of the show, primarily for the interview with Henry, and to watch what J, Lou and Murph were doing as they played, but went back a bit to be able to actually hear to music, as it was intended to be, about 1/4 of the way through the Dinosaur Jr performance. Wish I had been back for Pierced Arrows too, but unfortunately I would never have made it back to the front. (The sound is always better further back.) Being at the stage has some advantages, but not musical! Absolutely fabulous. I felt honored to be a part of this!!! GO IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE!!!

Ugh, such an incredibly dope show. Henry rollins' presence was indeed the cherry on top, DUH! Dinosaur Jr. are without a doubt one of the best live band ever- if I didn't know better I'd assume they were at LEAST a five piece- what a full sound for there just being 3 dudes. Fucking gnarly man!

Big fan of the band and The Paradise and neither disappointed. I enjoyed the interview portion as well. Henry did a great job with such soft spoken/short answer people. I imagine there are many Dinosaur Jr fans that would love to hear J open up a bit more about his songwriting, and to hear Lou and Murph's take on working together. It was different thing, but I think worked pretty well, and likely only get better. Only shortfall was that it was fairly short set, with 13 songs. Wasn't familiar with OFF!, but they were great. Also thought security did a good job...looking out for people but not overreacting to anything.

The venue, Variety Playhouse was great, great acoustics. The show sounded great. Both the opening band, "OFF!" and Dinosour Jr. were great.

This will have been the fifth time I've seen Dinosaur Jr, from venues as small as a beach bar on Cafe Metro in Chicago in the 1990's, to a tiny beach bar on Cape Cod, to once before at Terminal 5 (where this show was) when they played with Sonic Youth. This show was probably the best of them all. I feel that Terminal 5 generally does a pretty good job with the sound, especially if you stand on the floor. The sound for all three bands was good all night. "Bug" is just a great album and they never played enough of it for me in previous shows, although I love "Farm" too. I kind of wondered how they were going to pull it off. Instead of jumping right in with Freakscene (the way the album starts), they played a couple of other songs and when they did jump in, it was with both feet. Apparently Lou Barlow blew out his voice screaming on "Don't" (which was awesomely done played by J!) in Boston the night before, so they had some fan from that show on stage who was both hilarious to watch and wonderful to listen to as he delivered both of the lyrical lines with uncompromising pathetic integrity. The interview session with Henry Rollins was hard to watch...Henry did his part to bring some energy to it, but I really don't think the band had much to say. It's a good idea executed with the wrong band. I would rather have had 20 minutes of Henry rocking his spoken word thing.

OFF! with Keith Morris from the circle jerks were great. The F*** Ups (?) were musically good, but the lead singer was not. Too much time in the crowd, leaving the band on stage alone. The Rollins interview was interesting. Dinosaur Jr. were spot on amazing.

The show began unconventionally, fantastically, with Henry Rollins interviewing Dinosaur Jr on stage. He asked great questions, and over the course of the interview we all got a pretty thorough rundown of what was happening musically, both within and outside of the band, when Bug was written. Everyone from the band added little pieces to the story, and most people from the audience appreciated the tale woven by the end, though a few people started yelling for them to play.... This was my first trip to the Paradise, and I didn't know what to expect, venue-wise. When I walked in, and realized what it was gonna sound like to hear Dinosaur Jr in a venue that intimate, my head nearly exploded. Then they started playing, and my head actually exploded, in the greatest way possible. Blissfully enveloped in a wave of crushing noise. Sublime, unspeakable pleasure. The crowd was great, everyone had dumb-big smiles plastered on, and my ears rang for days. Amazing!

Awesome! Rocked! Life Changing! This band is iconic! No need to argue with me, one of the best - top 5 bands - every united. The performance of BUG in its entireity showed me that you can still do whatever it takes to achieve success. This band comes back from 20 years to play this albumn with the same energy and enthusiam as in 1988. Lou pounds the bass, Murph rocks the drums, and J, hell J just blows it all away. Go see the show!!! Go see Dinosur!! Change your life!! PS... yes the interview portion is a bit cheesy, but if you are a fan of the band and the history of punk rock, you'll appreciate the Q and A.

I have to say I was somewhat let down by the show. I have seen Dinosaur Jr many times and they usually rock with loud extended jams. But on Thursday it seemed as though they had a hard time getting into it. J didn't have his usual command and I could barely hear Lou. The best song was "Don't" - they wailed on that. That guy with the fro was a riot. But this was my least favorite Dinosaur Jr show.

First of all, I'm in the same age demographic as the band members themselves. The doors opened at 6:30pm, so I naively thought that the band would be on by 9pm. Instead, there were hardcore bands opening the show. I never liked hardcore, even when I was in my 20s. Although I came in at around 7:30pm, there was still plenty of opening act to go. Replete with scream "singing", mosh pit "dancing", and crowd surfing, it was definitely not my scene. Then, what with all the delays and the pre-show interview, Dinosaur Jr. didn't take the stage until around 10:15pm. Too much waiting around for me - I almost left without seeing the band I came to see. Their performance was great - that's why I gave this review 3 stars instead of 1. But go see them when there aren't so many openers and delays.

Excellent concept--playing the nearly 25-year-old "Bug" album straight through--and excellent execution of the concept. I knew these guys would be fun to see, great angsty lyrics, and loud. Very, very loud. The bonus? Instrumentally they sound great. If you're a fan of the album or more generally of the band, you gotta try to see this show.

Oh my god you bunch of whiners. If you know anything about Dinosaur Jr, you know they play ear-splitting magma rock. To quote them, it's ALL about the attack, which is what they do. this was a really good show. These guys get better with age. And to all of the posters commenting on "man, they looked bored," etc., well, J probably just woke up and walked on stage. He's not exactly Richard Simmons. So get over it guys. Loud, very loud, very lethargic. Very kick ass. That's what you get.

This was my first Dino jr show. Wow. This is 3 dudes having a jam session with the volume louder than I imagined possible. Not much crowd interaction but they do rip it up.

These guys destroyed it the night I saw them! My brain was melting after only the first couple of songs. However, they literally never acknowledged the crowd. No "hello". No banter between songs. A lone "Thanks. Good night." at the end. I'm all for playing it cool, but they seemed to be wearing the faces of a shlubs at work. Only Lou Barlow smiled and moved while playing. Musically stellar, but completely lifeless performance.

It was a night of loud, raucous, rocking sounds. Kurt Vile and Dinosaur Jr. brought their A games. The set lists, the performance and the whole feel were just great. And really, really good to see Lou Barlow with DJ again!!!

I have been a fan of this band for some 16 years now, but never got the chance to see them live - and especially after the breakup I thought those chances would be zero. So, great timing also because I happen to be in the NYC area. The concert was good, volumes were a tad too loud perhaps but the band sounded tight and in good shape. I did not recognise some of the songs - they must be the new ones, they sounded good. The old faves sounded even better! At the end I got quite close and enjoyed the last part of the concert from about 2 meters from the stage. When they finished I got J. Mascis' guitar pick! The venues was nice and intimate, staff generally friendly and helpful. Only one negative remark: the merchandise, and especially, the t-shirts were awful. Too bad, I wanted one.

Venue was fine, vocals were a bit too low. Band seemed to lack energy but the guitar work was solid.
