Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH IN CONCERT:Indie darlings Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have been bringing hands together since 2005, and their name perfectly describes what happens at their live shows. Elaborating on their already-creative arrangements, the band creates a decidedly upbeat atmosphere in concert, treating fans to buoyant singles like “Is This Love?” and “The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth” as they join the crowd in collective clap-alongs. Touring in support of a new album in 2014, the band continues to bring the can’t–miss party to venues across the country.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Philadelphia-based indie band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah became overnight critical favorites with their self-titled 2005 debut, dominating music blogs with their sunny indie-pop earworms and garnering a “Best New Music” nod from Pitchfork.

Webster Hall is proving to be one of the best venues for shows of this size and artists of this caliber. The crowd filled the space nicely, with enough room to get from place-to-place. Nearer to the stage, it's easy to have the "personal" music experience without feeling suffocated by those around you. CYHSY put on a charged and vibrant show with a set that drew the audience in and tapped into a bit of primal rage. A few songs got the crowd moving and thrashing, but swaying and head-bobbing were the popular moves for the night. Despite the pricey drinks at the bar, it's easy to enjoy a $5 beer if you find the guys wandering the crowd.

Great show! Loved the mix of old and new songs! Also, was blown away by the opening band, Portica.

Great band. Very tight. You won't regret it. Royale was a great, intimate location.

Great band of eclectic sounds and also quite danceable. They didn't really fill out the venue as much as I had hoped and when there are fewer people, there tends to be less dancing which is too bad. But they played a good show and looked like they were having fun.

I've been a fan of Clap Your Hands for quite some time, but never had the chance to see them until their show at the El Rey. They were great and the audience was very much into them. A lot of dancing and energy all around. I enjoyed them!!

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah was really fun to see live! The lead singer Alec Ounsworth is a great singer, and there was great energy throughout the show. I am a huge fan of the band, so I really enjoyed the concert! Also the El Rey is a really nice venue -- quite small, and cool-looking.

Great fun. Wonderfully rhythmical and as engagingly offbeat as ever. Genuine connection with a home crowd starved of live appearances. Songs off the much-loved first album predictably had the best reaction but the new stuff slotted in very nicely.

The songs captured the essences of their recorded versions, but every musician seemed to be putting something extra in. More drum variations, more keyboard coloring, and of course the high speed strumming trickier than ever. I could focus on different parts at different times or let all the parts combine. What an experience!

The set was tight, fast paced and energetic. They played a pretty even mix of some of their old songs with some of their new. I would have prefered more of the new, however. The venue was small and intimate, which I loved, but the crowd was quite lame. Alec's vocals were spot on, but a bit too low. Not sure if it was the accoustics or the accompaniment, but I like to hear his voice above all.

Leading up to this event i was pretty stoked. i mean, CYHSY is a band im into, and have known of way before i saw them at this event. However, i didn't really think the venue was a GREAT fit. siting down the whole time? i mean, some might not of mined, but me and my gang got up and stood in front of the stage anyways. The sound and production has quite well i must say though, very nice. Overall, this was a good show for any fan of CYHAY, and i would recomend this to any of my indie going pals. asspecially for $21.00 a ticket. but i cant say it was much of a experience.

CYHSY was amazing! Unfortunately, crowd was incredibly lame and pretentious. No one danced at all, except for me and my girl of course.

This concert was fantastic! This was my first CYHSY concert, and it was memorable to say the least. Some songs from CYHSY's new album were played, along with the best of their older songs. The band is great live, and their sound is even better than can be conveyed by their albums...

These guys were a lot of fun to listen to. Great beat - nice guitar rifts - interesting vocals. I think the overall could have been mixed better for the club and perhaps in general. I wanted to hear more vocal - I would have mixed that up a bit. I would have like a bit more active mixing to enhance each musician when they had a clear lead in the song.

CYHSY is FAB. They killed it! The whole show was so tight. Perfect mix of new and old songs-I didn't stop dancing the whole show. Their new album, Hysterical, just dropped. Def pick it up. Go see them if you get a chance, you'll be glad as their music and sound is totally different live.
