Regina Spektor

Regina Spektor

Daughter of a music professor; trained classically in her home country of Russia, Regina's passion for music was clear from childhood.  Once she completed her studies she moved to the Bronx, New York and her life has never been the same. Influenced by her Russian and Jewish roots, as well her new love for the city Regina's songwriting took off. It was in the underground music scene of the East Village where she found fame.

My girlfriends and I traveled 2 hours to Regina s concert and she made it ALL worthwhile. Enjoyed the music, the dynamics of her rhythms and the great audience appreciation. Learned a few new songs which I purchased on iTunes. Would do it all again. Thanks Regina!

I enjoyed the entire evening out, having reserved the dinner buffet before the show and where the food was excellent and at a very modest price. I also had great seat ... dead center of the center orchestra section and only 6 rows from the stage. Beautiful stage arrangement and lighting, and great sound. No blocking of the view by attendants or audience constantly walking past. I was very fortunate to have great neighbors of her fans surrounding me who were enjoying the show as much as I was. The only slight disappointment I had was not being able to meet her after the show and to personally congratulate and thank her for the awesome performance just as I had the opportunity to do on several other occasions in NYC over the years I've been loyally following her work. But happy I was nonetheless to have again witnessed her musical genius.

Regina had acute bronchitis & still sang beautifully. She interacted with us throughout the show, told jokes, responded sweetly to song requests. She played the piano, played keyboard & drummed on a chair at the same time! Sung several songs a capella & played guitar. She gave an encore & her husband joined her on stage! Regina constantly thanked us for being patient with her voice. This was my Favorite show this year. After every song, I wanted to hear more. I loved that she used minimal instruments so you could hear her voice. Regina was genuine, funny, & humble. She stopped during the beginning of a song & restarted, admitted she messed up, apologized & continued. The whole show was AMAZING! I recommend seeing her if she comes to your city. (Sorry my pics are fuzzy, the lighting was very dark; I'm no professional) THANKS REGINA for a GREAT show! Feel better soon & come back to the midwest!!!

I have attended 7 live Regina Spektor concerts to date in 7 different cities and each one is completely inspirational and unique. Small clubs, to large arenas and school basketball courts---she delivers. I attended her performance last time she played the El Rey and it was a great experience. The people and fans are wonderful. She has a wonderful personality that comes out on stage that you don't get from just listening to the music. Her interaction with the audience makes this a true event and makes each event unique even when she plays similar sets. She has created a simple show that is playful and not repetitious. Changing instruments, including other participants or band members on stage with her. If you are a fan of Regina Spektor you will not be let down. All of her shows have been memorable experiences in my life. Even with a large crowd she is able to create intimate moments where she truly connects with you. You may feel she is looking directly at you. My recommendation is you go. Know the songs. She may surprise you with ones she's never released. It will be fun. You may be inspired to go home and build a robot. Like the people who built me attended a show, they went home and made me from small parts and now I sing her songs. Not that you'll be inspired to build a robot, but maybe you will be inspired to become great at that thing you always wanted to do. Or just have an amazing moment with your friends. Be prepared to wait awhile between the opening act and her performance. Also if the event has no tickets available now---keep checking back. With El Rey last time, I didn't get in at first, but more tickets opened up. You have to stay on top of it. There won't be people selling tickets outside of the event. Also go early to stand up front.

Regina Spektor was brought to my attention by a very silly and clever J.C. Penny commercial. A small segment of "Music Box" accompanied the visuals of the commercial, but stimulated my curiosity enough to find out who performed the song that was introduced. When I located the track, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the rest of the song took on a very different style that brought a smile to my face. After listening to more of her tracks, I discovered the amazing talent that she has and her ability to see the wonders that exist within what many of us would consider little things to which we would not give a second thought. Regina Spektor writes and performs songs that will take you to a place where you haven't thought about since you were a child without a care in the world. Her music is far from childish, but it paints a picture of things as we used to see them when they were wondrous sights. Let Regina Spektor take you to a place that you forgot existed within yourself. You will enjoy every moment of her performance and her amazing talent.

I thoroughly enjoyed this concert. I loved the Chicago theatre where it was held so much more than a regular arenas where I have seen other artists. The atmosphere just seemed so personal, like I could just have a conversation with her while she was onstage. The music sounded great. I loved the variety she showed in her performance, switching from piano, to guitar, to keyboard, just the mic and back to the piano. She has such a wonderful voice and is definitely a good live singer. The only complaints I have were not for her. The audience became a bit too rambunctious at points, shouting out random statements to her when she was about to start a song. Once one person said something, it set off everyone else. At first I didn't mind, but after a while, it became annoying. I came to hear her perform. I think it was partly due to some people having too much alcohol, but who knows. I appreciated the security making sure that no one started standing up in the crowd, ruining the view of those around them. It wasn't a heavy rock concert and yet some seemed to think it was. Overall, Regina Spektor was an impressive performer and she was very personal to the audience, talking to everyone like close friends. She performed songs from several of her cd's focusing mostly on her recent one, but didn't leave out her more well known songs like Fidelity. I definitely recommend seeing her if you get a chance. Hopefully I can see her again.

We've been to many concerts and can sincerely say that Regina was, hands down, the best musical performance we have seen ever. Her vocals were perfect and technicality on piano and percussion exceptional. Sometimes you tire of the performance after an hour - not so with this performance; we thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing. Even the songs we had never heard were acoustically wonderful and lyrically thoughtful. I can't stress how excellent she was - she could have been recording her performance on Friday, it was that good...And she was sick. I can't imagine what she sounds like when she's feeling well. We're just sorry we didn't bring the kid because they love her music. Do NOT miss her if you ever get the chance to see her - she's a must see.

I had seen Regina several times and I know that she always delivers a great show. This was above and beyond, as she was solo, and there was no other focus other than her talent Despite her continuing battle with a cold and bronchitis, she was outstanding as well as charming and funny. The venue was very good, with comfortable seating and good sight lines. I also want to commend the staff. I had accidentally broken a souvenir cup, and the very solicitous usher guided me to purchase a new one, which the souvenir seller also helped with. I would definitely recommend the artist and venue

Regina is a wonderful musician and talent, but we didn't appreciate her starting 30 minutes late. I know this is normal for musicians, but my husband was ready to leave, and if we hadn't travelled nearly 2 hours to attend, I might not have been able to talk him out of leaving. Also, Regina could have acknowledged the late start with an apology or reason.

First time seeing her was grand. played for almost 2 hours with a sip of water between songs. She played the grand in the center of the stage, the key board downstage left, guitar downstage right and sang accapella and used her voice making sounds with accompaniment. And a bonus, our seats were balcony, we were offerred and accepted row K on the floor. Sweet deal for a great show. G

As soon as I sat down in my seat, I was wishing again that my daughter had been able to come down from Cleveland to join me in bearing witness to this magical evening. This medical intern, who 12 years ago had respectably performed both the piano and vocal parts of 'her' songs in our living room, had immediately responded "Regina?" to the text I had sent with a picture of a piano on an empty stage. Soon Regina bounced onto that stage, and for over an hour and a half, displayed her otherworldly talents in piano performance, uniquely beautiful singing, quirky yet profoundly meaningful song writing, and, perhaps most importantly, her amazing ability to perform almost flawlessly while interacting so well with the audience. Overall, one of the best concerts I've ever experienced, and my only regret is that my daughter couldn't be along for the ride.

Regina Spector has an amazing talent. Her vocal skills are out of this world. She is a very beautiful person. The fans on the other hand were yelling things out throughout the concert and were very rude. I had my 8 year old daughter with me and almost had to leave early. A security guard had to kick a couple of people out at the beginning of the show and instead of letting it happen quietly everyone started applauding him and stopped her in the middle of a song! This was not an outdoor festival it was a theater and people need to respect that.

Henry Rollins once said the "only way to know for sure whether a band is real, is to see them live". I should know, I was there at the Metro in Chicago the second night Rollins Band recorded "The Only Way To Know For Sure" and they were real. Last Sunday night at the Taft Regina Spektor was real, and left no doubts that there is no studio trickery, no over-dubbing, no background singers, nor any other "support"" on her studio records. She was on fire, taking requests for very old songs, and singing news ones from deep in her catalogue. In a set lasting two hours, Ms. Spektor played everything from early demos to the latest record, finishing the night with an encore that featured "Samson". Playing piano, guitar, electric piano and acapella, Ms. Spektor left no doubt that with her raw talent she can transport the listener to her universe for each song, over and over again. Reminiscent of Neil Young on his "Live at Massey Hall LP", Ms. Spektor is at the top of her game, perhaps never to be equaled, at least until her next tour.

FIRST AND FOREMOST: They warned us, "Bring rain gear," and everybody did. They even passed out ponchos at the gate. THAT SAID: And it did rain. Really, really hard. AND STILL: The show was terrific. Regina soldiered on, in spite of being wet and cold. "Are you OK?" she kept asking the audience. And every time, the packed house cheered enthusiastically. We were all in it together, and that made the event a big, wet party. "Shhhhh ..." whispered Regina, "Don't let Steinway know I brought their piano out in the rain ..." and everyone giggled along with her. THE SET: Was solid and diverse. She explored new and old music. The band was tight and musical. Her voice and piano were wonderful. And all things considered, she played a long, complete, diverse set.

Regina was a real treat to see live. Her quirkiness, modesty, and down-to-Earth demeanor that makes her unique musical sound carries over heavily in concert. She is incredibly modest and appreciative of her audience and truly delivered. She delighted the crowd with a jam-packed set of 22 + 4 encores; a two hour show! All the favorites, all the best deep tracks, and a beautifully displayed Russian song of old dedicated to her late Chicago friend. Whatever emotions ran through Regina that night bled right into us, as she made us all feel like we're enjoying her gift as if she were right next to us. And I sat in the furthest up-and-away balcony! I recommend her talents for all ears and hearts and would see her again sometime...

Drove from Columbia, SC to Atlanta, GA to see this show at The Tabernacle. It was my first time at that venue and I found the staff very pleasant and professional. My wife is a big fan of Regina Spektor, but I'll admit to never having heard of her before we bought the tickets. I bought three of her albums on ITunes and diligently listened to them in the weeks before the show so I wouldn't go in completely oblivious as to what to expect. The show exceeded our expectations and Regina Spektor was perfectly brilliant. Her voice was pitch perfect and her piano playing was just icing on an already delicious cake. We heard from some of the sound guys that she had a migraine prior to the show, but you certainly wouldn't have known it from her performance.

What's not to love about Regina Spektor? My husband surprised me with tickets for our anniversary and needless to say she put on a wonderful performance and will not disappoint. A perfect mix of old and new songs, finishing with an encore of songs the crowd was yelling for all night long. Although she timidly thanked the audience in between songs, her performance was nothing less than confident. (Who else can sing, play the piano, direct the audience at the same time??) You leave the venue knowing exactly why you loved her in the first place.

Her set included, in order, Ain't No Cover, The Calculation, On the Radio, Small Town Moon, Ode to Divorce, Patron Saint, How, All the Rowboats, Blue Lips, The, Prayer of Francois Villon, Call The Brothers, Dance Anthem of the '80s, Better Don't Leave Me [Ne Me Quitte Pas], Firewood, Oh, Marcello!, Ballad of a Politician, Sailor Song, Open, and The Party. She then played a four sing encore: Us, Fidelity, Hotel Song, and Samson. Everything sounded absolutely perfect.

I have attended 3 concerts by Regina Spektor this year alone ... six times in the last two years, and I'm far from done. I honestly swear that every time that I see and hear her she gets better and better. She is certainly maturing and progressing in her style, and her voice and piano are becoming even more powerful and moving. The show at the United Palace Theatre, in her home town of Manhattan (well her home town now, and close enough to the Bronx I guess) in front of her family, her friends, and her adoring fans was to me her best performance in this concert tour to date. The acoustics at that impressive and historic theater were superb, every note and every syllable sharp and clear. A memorable night indeed!

Regina Spektor has so much talent wrapped up in her tiny little frame. It's amazing to hear that awesome singing voice come from someone with such a sweet speaking voice. This was the second time I've watched her play live and, while she doesn't spend a lot of time talking to the audience, I still find myself engaged by her music. She utilizes so many instruments and her voice is so strong. Her songs are fun, bittersweet, humorous and sometimes sad and she sings them with so much emotion. She's fabulous. I attended Regina Spektor concert with my husband(31) and my cousins (16). The age of the concert goers ranged from young to old. I was captivated by her spectacular voice and ability to play the piano, bass, keyboard and even a wooden chair with a drum stick (" Poor little rich boy"). From start to finish she had the entire audience dancing and singing right along with her. The first part of the performance began with song's from her new album "Far", that was then followed by songs from previous albums "Begin to Hope", and Soviet Kitsch. The encore was compiled of some her more popular song's : "Fidelity", "Hotel Song", "Us", and "Samson". Overall I loved her performance and plan in the future to see her several more times. I would suggest that everyone go see Regina Spektor live in concert because she is a real artist, with a real voice that will really move you.

Regina Spektor has an amazing presence in person. She's very sweet, constantly thanking the crowd and the band between songs. Spektor not only uses the piano, but a chair and her guitar to preform. Her voice carries so well and she really brings her soul into all of her music. She's a great artist and I would recommend everyone to see her in concert!!

First of all, the opening act, Little Joy, was actually good enough to make me want to go buy their cd, which I have never had happen from an opening act before!! Then Regina was AAAMMMAAAZZZIIINNNGGG!!!!!! I seriously thought that oh, she is so amazing on cd and there is so much emotion in her songs it can't REALLY be that much better live. WRONG. I am not kidding I was moved to tears on more than one occasion. It was just phenomenal. I left feeling on top of the world, like I could do anything. Really. I mean I was a huge fan before so I know my opinion is a little biased, but it was just awesome. Then the best part- after the concert I went and stood by the tour bus (along with like 50 other people), and she actually came out and signed autographs/took pictures. And not just a hurry up and sign a picture and go kind of thing. She actually took the time to stop and chat with each of us, despite it being super late and her needing to get on the road. She is definitely the nicest celebrity I have ever met (I haven't met a ton, but I've bet a couple). She was awesome, the concert was awesome, everything was just AWESOME.

Regina Spektor is not just a CD/Studio performer, but is an amazing live performer as well. Arguably, her vocals are better live, since her personality is able to shine through to the audience through her live-adaptations. Spektor didn t follow the pattern of the CD, but put twists and nuances into established songs to interact with the crowd. The audience literally got a concert, rather than just the rehashing of what you can already hear on the CD. Regardless of whether you were in the front row or in the cheap seats (as we were) she reaches out to include the entire crowd in the performance, making witty rejoinders to the audience. As a die-hard Regina fan, even I was surprised by how amazing she was live. Her personality really gives the songs life. In addition, she s just nice. After the show, a long line of fans waited outside of her tour bus and even though it was really late, she went through the entire line taking photos with fans, talking with individuals, and signing t-shirts and tickets. She s the best I ve ever seen live, and really good to her fans. Seeing her in-concert is worth it.

Regina was amazing. Even though she was slightly dying from an illness she sounded amazing and was hilarious. I will always remember her when I drink my last sip of water and whenever I have flem. She seems to love flem. Needless to say she was flawless. I hope to one day be just as amazing as her. Everyone should attend her concert. My fav part was her acapella song about Regina-sauraus.

I saw Regina earlier on this tour (Chicago). The show was simply magnificent! One of the best concerts I have ever attended. The sound profile was perfect. Lot's of nuance and dynamic range. Really, it was perfect! UNFORTUNATELY, the Uptown has once again let me down. Regina was sick and that seemed to affect the set-list and certainly the quality of her performance. But overriding a slightly off-night was a horrendous sound system. Off in so many ways ... the mix, EQ, levels ... It was quite a disappointment. An expensive disappointment.

So, as a parent, I am incredibly disappointed by Regina's lack of class during her promoted "all ages" show in KC. While talking to the audience between songs, she dropped the f*** word 10 plus times during the 1.5 hour set, not including singing Bobbing for Apples, a song that repeats at least 10 times that "someone's f***ing to one of her songs". She also spoke the words s***, a**, g**d***, and more between songs. It was all just so incredibly unnecessary, especially with so many children in the audience, including my 5 year old. Attending this concert was for him, not me, as he is completely enamored by her voice, which means he was hanging on her every word. He has her live dvd and he even commented to me during the show that it wasnt like the dvd. She has a ton of beautiful songs from which she could have picked. Soooo disappointed. It's simple: just promote it as 18+ if the singer is going to curse like a sailor and go off on a political tyrade in the middle. Ridiculous.

Regina was recovering from some type of respiratory illness, but that did not stop her from putting on the best show I have ever seen. Between coughing fits, her voice was beautiful and strong throughout the entire show. The venue was gorgeous and the acoustics allowed her voice to fill the entire place. I look forward to seeing Regina perform live again as well as returning to the Uptown Theater.

Really love her quirky work and she seems like a sweetheart. She was ill this night and the show had to go on so we didn't get her best or anything close to it. Didn't pay $130 and a facility fee of $12 to hear your political view, you could have gotten another song in during that diatribe instead. Admire her attempt to pull off the show and she was on for darn close to 90 minutes give or take. Came back on for an encore when I'm sure she would rather have gone back to bed. Loved the lighting system so simple and so cool. The theatre really made the whole thing a class act. I kept asking myself if I would have rather had a rain check or gone to this less than ideal show. Not sure but it was a pleasant night and memorable only from how frequently she talked about her illness and embarrassment about blowing her nose. Was not a night of musical celebration.

The poor woman was sick, but the show must go on! She still put on an amazing show, still sang better than most pop singers out there, and did a fine job of engaging the crowd throughout. I would highly recommend seeing her live, she is a top tier writer/composer and brings her music to life, even when sick! (ticketmaster is indicating that the stars are for venue rating, Balboa theater is a beautiful theater, but maybe not best suited for this type of show. I wanted to see her at House of Blues in Anaheim, but work schedule did not allow. During the course of the 90 minute concert I had to get up so people could go to the bathroom, get a drink, etc., probably 20 times. I prefer general admission/open floor concerts. I would love the place for actual theater, musicals, and orchestral concerts)

The weather was not the best for this event, as it started to rain, but it was worth every penny! Regina was a wonderful performer and you could tell that she was cold too, but she kept on and sounded amazing. I would definitely go see her again. I also loved how intimate the performance was since it was in a small venue. Great crowd, great venue, and amazing performer!

Regina's performance was excellent. Vocals clear, piano-playing incredible and her musicians so talented. Unfortunately, the lighting for about 75% of the show was horrible. They were so blinding and shone directly at the audiences' eyes. It was so distracting and uncomfortable. Most of the audience either had their eyes closed, heads down, hands over their eyes to shield from the blinding light. It's really unfair to this talented musician for the lighting to detract from the show. Please reconsider the lighting for future performances.

Regina Spektor put on a great show. I loved her playful stage presence, it made the entire evening feel much more intimate. She played a lot of songs from her new album but also a lot of her old favorites. Enjoyed the way she interacted with the audience. I should add that halfway through the show it started to rain, I mean God's wrath kind of rain. The venue passed out poncho but even with my raincoat, we ended up getting soaked by the end of the night. I guess not all of the stage was shielded either, so they were playing in the rain too. In the end, they had to cut the show a little short due to dangers from the weather, but not all that short when compared to the other shows I have been to at the Greek Theatre.

Regina was fine, as usual, but the Dolby was terrible. Event staff took so long to let people in to the venue that they delayed the show by 30 minutes. Then when my wife went to the bathroom before the encore, they would not let her return to our seats. I may never go see a show at the Dolby again.

Unfortunately this event got rained out- Regina came on about 30 mins late and although was talented and lovely as ever- there were no screens to see her face. It made it really tough to enjoy her quirky performance. And then the rain came. She was a trooper because it was really pouring!!! She played for 2 hours total which seemed magical. And the venue handed free ponchos out. However these accommodations did not make up for the fact that the event ended early.

Our third time seeing Regina. Her music speaks for itself, but her concerts reveal her ability to connect with her audience in a genuine way. Initially the rain was not an issue, but ultimately (~1.5 hours), it proved to be too much and we had to leave (both of us recovering from recent colds). We could hear one of my favorite songs off the latest album (Small Bill$) as we left the venue. 3 stars only because it should have been rescheduled given the forecast. I may be more careful in the future with Spring shows at this venue

Even though the show was cut short due to the harsh weather, Regina made every minute sitting in the pouring rain worth it. She sounds even better than on the album, and I loved all her little conversations she had with the crowd in between songs. I have listened to her for about 9 years now, and I am so happy that I finally got a chance to see her.
