Skating On the River

Awesome family fun! We will definitely do it again next year!

Excellent time had by all ages!! Organized very well! A definite holiday repeat event!! Smiles were everywhere!

This is always a fun family outing for the holidays.

It was fun; however, by the time you wait in line for skates and the session is ended 15 min. early, you really don't have an hour and a half. Some skate sizes weren't available. Also, I think there should be a child's price. It's pretty expensive for the actual time spent skating once fees are added.

Being at the rink first thing in the morning was a success for me, my son and his 7 yr old son. All the employees were very friendly and helpful. The 2 "skating monitors" were very helpful to my grandson. I ESPECIALLY appreciated the announcements about the free drink and the time of the drink stand closing...we had thought we would wait until the session was ended before getting our drinks and snacks, but it would have been closed and a child meltdown would have occurred. Thank you for bringing this back to the river center for us. It was nice to relive some childhood winter time memories of when I lived in Ohio.

What a wonderful way to spend time over the holidays. Great family event!!!

I say every year that I'm gonna take my daughter ice skating, but by the time I go to purchase tickets they are all sold out! I made sure that I got online early this year and got us some tickets and it was well worth it! So much fun! We had a great time!

For the price , this was just an average event at an underwhelming River Center. The ice was not buffed before our session so it was not as smooth as it could have been, there are NO lockers so please bring the least amount of personal items because your shoes and keys and whatnots will already be exposed. They offer u one free drink with the ticket purchase, but the choices are subpar. Want to make this event even better? Set up a really cool Food Vendor Consession with some nice seating. Add a picture station and charge $5. Then slightly reduce the price of admissions, even if the free drink is eliminated. Oh yea, and spruce up the place. The event was just that, a rink. Add some decor and really make it nice. It's worth it! *

Good time but the tickets are too expensive and parking a pain

Skating on the river was a nice experience. The rink wasn't overcrowded and there was plenty room to skate. There was xmas music playing which was nice. Overall it was a good time. I will definitely go back Next yr

I can not begin to explain what a GREAT time all 7 of us had. It was truly amazing. Everyone working the event was very polite and helpful. Once you went down, someone was always there in a flash to 1st see if you were OK and then 2nd to assist you with getting back on your feet. GREAT Job staff! YES, we will be back! Wish this expereice would make a summer come back!

Was not happy this year. Too many people on the ice. Ticket said it came with a snack which is usually popcorn.. This time it was two starburst. Probably wont be going again next year.

For years, Skating on the River was a Christmastime tradition that couldn't be missed. However, some 2012 changes made the event less enjoyable. The "included snack" used to be a small bag of popcorn; it is now leftover Halloween candy in its Halloween packaging. The small servings of popcorn probably cost 5¢ each; I don't see how two tiny packs of Starbursts or a Halloween bag of Skittles saves much money. I brought my own skates, but all my friends' rental skates were dull with damaged boots. Be aware that the event is advertised as two hours, but thirty minutes are set aside for skate rental and watching the ice monitors skate in circles around the rink; skate time lasts only an hour and a half. Because they sell more tickets than an average ice rink, the ice is extremely rough within 45 minutes; yet the Zamboni doesn't reappear until after the two-hour slot, which means you'll be skating through slush half the time. I will be fair and say that everyone working the event, from the ticket-takers to the ice monitors, was very friendly. If you haven't skated at many public rinks, you won't notice the issues. Frequent skaters will be frustrated with the rough ice and lack of crowd control. As long as the prices don't rise, this is still a fun option for winter entertainment in the Baton Rouge area. I won't lie and say I'll never return again; but the little things, like replacing the popcorn with two packs of Halloween candy, not sharpening the skate blades, overbooking tickets, and not resurfacing the ice, drop Skating on the River from a good value to an average one. Be sure to book tickets in advance! Every session sells out at the ticket window within 15 minutes.

My family had a blast ice skating! It wasn't very crowded and the music was appropriate for kids! I loved that there were seasoned skaters there helping little kids! I thought that was awesome for them to go beyond their "job description". My son only had one disappointment- that he couldn't have his birthday party there since it isn't year round. This is definitely something that we will be watching for again! Thanks!

Last year the ice was very good. This year it was awful. It was filled with bumps. Not planning to return. Very disappointed. Also the drink & "candy" with ticket purchase was a drink & 2 Starburst candies. Pretty sad.

This was a very enjoyable event and I have already recommended it to all of my friends and family. This was our 2nd time going to this event and enjoyed it just as much as the first.

I brought my 4 and 6 year old for their first ice skating experience. They loved it, falls and all!

A really amazing experience. I always wanted to Ice skate since a child and my dream came true along with my children! I can't wait to go again! Thanks for bringing this event to my city!

I sincerely hope that the people who make the Skating on the River events possible in December and July will continue their efforts for a long, long time! I really appreciate their hard work! It's truly worth it for an avid recreational ice skater like me to pay the ticket price in order to get great skating exercise in a nice, cool environment! After all, I grew up in the Baton Rouge area and continue to live in the area, so ice skating is usually only a winter pasttime that I enjoy at Leo's Iceland! If you've never tried Skating on the River, you're really missing something!

I haven't been ice skating in 30 years. I brought my husband and children (ages 12 and 5). We had a blast and will make this one of our Christmastime traditions!!

In the biggest little city I've ever been to, Baton Rouge tries its hardest to provide its citizens everything that the real big cities have. They fail here. There are too many tickets sold and the ice gets rough quickly. Instead of having a quick intersession where they can smooth out the ice, they go ahead and kick everyone out instead. A 90 minute skating session that started at 9:30 am ends at 11 am and you're left with the whole afternoon trying to figure out what else to do. I bought the museum package but alas the USS Kidd was closed that day. Luckily, LASM was not. I enjoyed the day, but I still believe it could have been better.

skating on the river was pretty fun. We went as a group of 15 & enjoyed ourselves. The icerink wasn't as big as I thought it would be but it was suffice. Also, there were alot of babies & little children. I suggest them putting in a smaller rink for those under a certain age. But still had a great time

Everyone should do this at least once. It was awesome!

My family enjoyed themselves, it was a great outing for us.

Skate shoes were very uncomfortable. No choice of snack. No discount for large group of eleven. Music was not very loud. Rink was in good condition.
