Loved the new visual effects/scenery. Added to the production! Main vocalists did an amazing job, however, this Cozette was not my favorite. Her voice was very high, and sometimes flat. The touring company did an amazing job. My complaint is with the seating in the Paramount. I paid 130.00/ ticket and do to tall people in front of me, I missed a large portion of activity on the stage. Seats should be staggered!

I love the story of Les Miserables and was highly looking forward to seeing the show. It did not disappoint! The venue is breathtaking of course and the cast was extremely talented and impressed beyond words at certain points. We were very happy we went to see the show at the Paramount and wish we could go again while they are here!

If this were the first time I had seen this play, I would have no idea what was happening. This is my favorite of all plays and I have seen it over 7 times - from London to Rockford, IL. The stage seemed small to present this play. Cosette was weak while I thought the rest of the cast was wonderful. If you have read the book and then go see this version. You will not be disappointed.

This production of Les Miserables was very well done. The performers were very talented and did an outstanding job. The leads did a phenomenal job - Valjean, Marius, Cosette, Fontine, etc. My wife and I have this musical before (4x for me, 2 in London, and 3x for her), and we could not help but notice that there are always some directing differences - we thought it odd, for example, that the laborers in the opening scene were oarsmen on a ship and not working in a rock quarry or similar site. Also, the stage was very small and seemed "crowded" at times. In addition, there was no "rotating stage" which seems to be a standard prop for Les Mis. Overall, it was a great show, and it was worth driving the 200+ miles to Chicago to see it.

This production of Les Miserables was one of the best musical productions I have ever seen. The acting was amazing and even their singing was able to make you feel everything the characters were feeling. I loved their use of the back screen to help you feel in the moment. There were scenes that were so amazing that my description would not do it justice. I generally only go see a musical one while it is in town, but I am going to make it a point to go see it again.

This the third time we've seen Les Miserables. We decided to bring our children. High points were Marius, Javert, and the ensemble. We had the u/s for Jean Valljean, he was a solid average. The female leads were also very average. Overall a good experience.

Stage and costumes beautiful! Storyline amazing. I was glad I already knew what it was about or I would have been lost. Took my dad and he didn't know the story and was lost half the time because it was hard to hear and many of the vocals were weak and hard to understand their words. One of my favorite stories and was so excited to go, but couldn't help but feel disappointed during and after. Need stronger voices up there!

This was the third time I have seen Les Mis and I was very interested in seeing the new staging. Although the staging was creative and inventive the moving in and out of things and the subsequent noise from that backstage was distracting to say the least. The music and lyrics are what tells the story of Les Mis and the original staging was minimal so the story could be told. This staging took something away from the story as you were watching the staging instead of letting the music and lyrics speak to your soul!

What a disappointment! Les Mis is my favorite but the performance we saw was second rate. The majority of the performance seemed flat and as if the actors were just going through the motions. I would not recommend this show. It was hard to hear at many points. My wife and I left at the intermission because the show just wasn't enjoyable. We weren't the only ones either. I wish I could get my money back.

New tour, new staging, new cast. All are fabulous. The Cadillac Palace in Chicago is an intimate theater with great acoustics. The new set and staging makes this Les Miserables feel more personal and intimate. The cast is spectacular, with clear strong voices for all but Marius. Javert may be the best we've seen (in at least 6 times we've seen this musical). In several performances the voices were beautiful enough to move you to tears, even if the music and lyrics wouldn't have anyway. We would have stayed and watched the next performance if we could have. Don't miss this one!!!

I have seen Les Mis quite a few times, in different cities, and this one compared well. The one thing I'd never witnessed before was the lack of the famous turn-table that is used extensively in all the other productions I've seen. So I was very tuned in to how the sets were used and how the cast compensated for this difference. They did a fantastic job! The sets were wonderful, even more inventive and of a higher quaiity than sets I've seen when there was a turn-table, and the movements of the cast more than made up for this "lack" - which was not really a loss at all in this case. The mics were something new to me, attached as they were to the middle of the forehead. So I'm not sure if this was for the better or for the worse, as from my seat very close to the pit orchestra, it was sometimes hard to hear the singing over the instruments. If i hadn't been so very familiar with all the songs, I guess this might have disturbed me a bit more, but since I know the score by heart, I knew the lyrics even when they were too soft to be heard very well. Overall.....the voices and acting were tops!! Highly recommended! And not to forget to mention how wonderful the pit orchestra was - just amazing!!

The story was powerful and the acting superb. There were times when the sound was very poor and our group could not understand the words the actors were saying/singing. There was also a very loud banging sound coming from the wall vents on the left side of the theatre (as you face the front) toward the end of the show. Very distracting to all of us sitting on that side of the orchestra section.

I had read all of the reviews prior to attending the matinee on Feb 23rd. I was prepared for the worst - however, it wasn't that bad. I have seen this show 3 times, and I would rank this as second. The male roles were amazing, but the female roles left some to be desired. The female lead who played Cosette, had previously played Christine in Phantom, and her voice wasn't the light pristine Cosette we are used to. Eponine did not fit the role well at all. She had a powerful voice, but was too much a top 40 or gospel powerful instead of the Eponine voice we all love. The death scenes were WAY over acted by the girls - almost to a comical point. Too much makes for a terrible scene. The sound quality.. many times the orchestra (which was fantastic) drowned out the performers. Im not sure if that was because of the performers not projecting, or the sound people not being on the ball with turning the mics up. People seeing the show for the first time, Im sure had a hard time following at times because the words were lost. Overall.. good. I would see it again, but... I love Les Miserables. Parking - BE AWARE that there are a few parking garages close and if you use a GPS to guide you to your prepaid parking garage ticket - it will be the incorrect one. VERY MISLEADING and I suggest DONT buy one ahead of time - just go to the theater and park wherever you find.... because more than likely, it won't be the one you prepaid for (and will cost you $16 lost). There was a host/seater for the Loge seating area who was a jackass, and should not be working with the public. Very very rude to many patrons - many of whom were older and hard of hearing and he was just a jerk to them - belittling and embarrassing them. Not classy at all. I wish I had taken his name to send a complaint to the theater.

What a great show. The characters playing Jean Valjean, Javert, Fontine - all amazing. Eponine, not so much. BUT these are my personal opinions. This is still, to me, one of the greatest musicals of all time. The story alone is beautiful. I flew in from Texas just for the show and flew back the next day - did I mention I love it? Young Cossette and Gavroche get high marks as well. Highly recommend!

I've seen six different productions of this musical. Overall, the production was wonderful. I have trouble with a black Jean Val Jean, especially when his voice wasn't that strong (an all-white Showboat anyone?). Excellent Javert !!!! The "Master of the House" was disappointing. Supporting cast was extremely strong. Definately, see this production.

IMy daughter and I have seen Les Mis at least 10 times, both in Chicago, New York and London. I was apprehensive to see it again with some of the changes I had heard about, ie: no turntable, etc. I'm so glad we went, it was just so fabulous and enough changes to make it fresh and new. The cast was wonderful, although seemed young for some of the roles. (The actress playing Cosette was the only one who we didn't like. ) The actors playing Valjean and Javert were truly wonderful, both in voice and acting. Overall the acting was top notch and probably the best we've seen. I think without the turntable there was so much more to watch. The scenery was beautiful. The only downside to not having the turntable was after the barricade fell. We were disappointed not to see the drama of the bodies lying on the baricade.

Les Miserables was super, though my preference would be to trim the romantic bits so some backstory, i.e. why Jean Valjean had been imprisoned, could start the play. He is one of my favourite fictional heroes, and omitting that and why he and Javert had the relationship they did seems awkward. That said, the cast were delightful and the sets and special effects were gobsmacking. In addition, a scene involving one of the latter nearly made me weep, not because of the effects or the scene, but because of the audience they applauded at Javert s suicide. WtH?! Did they even realise what had happened? This applause exemplified Alberta large venue audiences interruptive and irrelevant applauses, often complete with hooting; FWIW, we rarely see this behaviour in smaller venues. Another audience poor manners example was the coming and going of people, mostly to get refreshments, during the performance. Why was that permitted? But are we glad we went? Yes, we are, and except for the rude behaviour cited, this review would be a ffive..

Please Note: 3 Stars is for the VENUE, not the show! My rating for the show is 5 stars. This is my all-time favorite musical, so of course, I never tire of seeing it. Although we were seated in Row V on house right, we were still captivated by the performances as well as the use of the projection screens. I should have brought opera glasses or binoculars to enable me to see the facial expressions of the actors, although their amazing vocal talents made up for it. Truly, the most incredible Jean Valjean and Fantine I've ever heard or seen! And we had 3 understudies at our performance (for Cosette, Marius, and Gavroche), which none of us would have known had I not checked the "At This Performance" board in the lobby. Amazing acting and vocals from EVERYONE. Bravo!!!

It had been 28 years since I'd seen the last touring company of Les Mis. It has lost none of it's beauty and character. In fact, in this day we're living in, Les Mis is as relevant as ever. I took myself to the Friday 2 March performance of Les Miserables for my birthday. I'd never seen the show before, but have heard about it for years. I'm a fan of live performances, for sure; but I wasn't expecting such an impact. The Detroit performances were held at the Fisher Theatre, which is a fantastic event in itself. The Fisher building that the Theatre is in is steeped in Art Deco style and history, and the main and second floors are absolutely tour-worthy. The play was... absolutely breathtaking. From the opening act, the energy of the production team was like nothing I've ever experienced; and I've seen my fair share of live acts. The vocal performances themselves were stellar. And what was done with the scenery was fantastic as well; it was subtle, yet inclusive. The cast really did have us all laughing and crying; and anyone that can invoke such a response from their audience has done their job. You don't want to miss out on this experience. SO much better than any film production, I promise.

We love Les Mis! I have to say, this touring group was the best yet! We all enjoyed the main cast, supporting cast, and the set. The cast was wonderfully talented and gave the musical their ALL. Such energy! The set changes were seamless, and the set itself so creative. We were blessed to meet some of the actors after the performance and what a wonderful and gracious group of people! If you get a chance to see it, DO IT - you will not regret it!

The whole performance was breath taking. The kids did and excellent job with their parts, the rest of the performers were spectacular as well. I was blown away by the set design and how multi-functional pieces seemed to be. I left in awe of the performance and was so glad I decided to go!

I have seen this musical 8 times from San Fran, Chicago, DC, and here a couple of times in Columbus. This is by FAR my favorite musical of all time!! This is a new set which looked amazing, but I must say, I do miss the rotating stage as before. The actors could walk while it rotated arriving to the next scene as it came into view. This allowed for the barricade to be viewed from both sides. The new stage does not allow the barricade to be seen from the other side to allow the viewing of Gavroche's death which was a VERY touching scene when you could view it. This time, it wasn't nearly as emotional. But the biggest let down is the rushing of the songs throughout the entire show. All songs' tempo was raised to a point you could hardly keep up. Listen to the symphonic recording... and then watch the live show... HUGE difference. Almost felt kinda cheated out since you could not resonate in the music and song. PLEASE.. take more time and allow us to TRULY enjoy it for the money that is spent by ticket holders... given them the MAXIUM enjoyment as possible... not to just hurry through it so it can be over as quickly as possible.

I have seen Les Miserables on numerous occasions and this production was by far one of the most moving renditions I have experienced. The scenary and sets were outstanding-something new and exciting. The whole cast was incredible but Peter Lockyer as Jean Valjean and Briana Carlson-Goodman as Eponine actually made you feel they were living their parts, and were drawing you into their emotional being, not just sharing them.

Had seen the movie production, but first time to see the musical. My wife and I took our 15 year old granddaugter. Production was wonderful, orchestra outstanding, as well as all the vocals and acting. Superbly done!

I went to see this play in San Diego last week, and all I can say is that I loved it! It was my first play and it couldn't have been any better. I truly enjoyed the cast s perfomances. I was just sobbing by the end! I had never read the book or even watched the movie, so it was truly shocking in some parts and it was great to let myself just enjoy it. Honestly, I recommend it to anyone who gets a chance. Although my seat was far, I was able to rent a pair of binoculars at the theatre and I think I enjoyed it just as much as I would have if I had been closer.

I love the theatre, especially musical theatre, and am very fortunate to live in Boston as many first-rate touring productions come through, and I have seen a lot; however, the production of the 25th anniversary of Les Miserables was absolutely OUTSTANDING! From the moment the lights turned down, I was in the world of Jean Valjean, Fantine, Cosette, Eponine, and a very quick three hours later, I did not want to leave. It was fantastic. Well, well worth the money I paid for the tickets. BRAVO!

I have been a fan of Les Mis since studying it in high school French class. This was my third time seeing the production (once in the late 90's and then again in 2002). The actors/musicians were all absolutely fabulous! I would highly recommend making plans to attend!

4th time to see Les Miserables. The new staging surprised me as I wasn't expecting it to be better. I liked the more realistic setting and the perspective of being closer to the action.

I had never been to a Les Miserables performance before...and was so grateful that I went! The performers were absolutely moving with beautiful voices...as the story unfolded, I was quite literally drawn up into it...fully and wholly...and it brought me to tears! The set decorations were amazing...at one point it even seemed as though we were watching a movie, not a play. Outstanding...captured the essence of the story, of the times in which the story took place...!

Wonderful costuming, lighting, staging, acting and directing. All facets of the production are well developed and delivered, particularly the progression and interaction of the sets. That alone is worth attending. Of course, the music is why we go with the live orchestra performance well done and consistent with the original music score. The only limiting factor, and the reason for the 4 star rating, is the voices, while well delivered, are still developing and lacking depth of maturity in their expressions. The emotions and the vocal engagement are not as riveting as anticipated, with the exception of Javert (Josh Davis), who carried the emotions into the depths of the score and character as hoped.

Congrats to all staff involved in this performance. After the venue was being lock-down due to a shooter situation the staff went above and beyond in keeping us as comfortable as possible.

The music was fantastic. The sets marvelous. the transitions quick and engaging. My only wish was that the diction was slightly better so I could understand all of the words instead of about 80% of them. It was not a problem of instrumentalists overpowering singers--the balance was fine, but of diction.

Having seen Les Mis more than 12 times in many venues, we were happily surprised by the quality of this presentation. The stage is small, but the sets were excellent. The sound clarity for Jean Val Jean was less than excellent, but over-all, this was a very good production.

Amazing, friendly theater staff. The theater is beautiful and was a good temperature. Also even from the back it was great. The performance was masterful. I've seen this show 3 times now and this was by far the best representation of death and the sewer scene. Very well done. Everyone needs to go see a show at this theater!

There is no substitution for seeing a live show. This was certainly no exception. I do wish the folks behind us had better theatre manners and didn t treat this amazing production as a singalong. That part was frustrating.
