Oh my gawd....what I can say? I am a lost for words. The lead singer was energetic in her performance. She made it more interesting. Dan Kuramoto is the funniest man alive. His jokes were very funny. Maybe he should change careers one day...lol

AWESOME!!! OUTSTANDING!!! INSPIRING!!!! MEMORABLE!!!! This group continues to be AMAZING! They introduced their new, soon-to-be-dropped CD entitled "LEGACY". It'll include releases of their favorite tunes from their first 10 years of playing together. Legacy Tees will also be available; Dan wore the "1000 Cranes" Tee... Sharp!!! EVERYBODY should see HIROSHIMA at least once in a lifetime, and if you can arrange it so that you can enjoy it at the BIRCHMERE, ALL the better!!! One of THE BEST concerts of my year!

This was my first time seeing Hiroshima live! Going back to the early 80's I can remember hearing their music at a friend house. I rushed out the very next day and purchased the cassette with the WHITE MASK on the cover and to learn more about the group. All I can say about last night's performance is WOW!!! I will be one of the first in line to purchase their Legendary CD. The stage performance was so personal and the music was perfect; better than the CD. I asked the question squarly if they would consider making a DVD?? Dan's response was they were thinking about it and he went on to say, "We may come back to Washington and do a live DVD!" Dan mentioned that the first venue they played in the DC area was at Howard University... he went on to say they feel right at home here! The great concept that the Birchmere offers is you can meet and greet with the artist after the show and purchase their music. This was my first time at the Birchmere. Having an opportunity to meet Hiroshima just left me SPELLBOUND! Thank you Birchmere, Sweet Magnolia

Each artist was gifted. But this is truly an example of the sum being more than the individual parts! Great chemistry across the board. Great blending of gifts and experiences. And they admire and respect each others gifts and stay in touch with their audience!!

This was a great show in a wonderful venue! The show started on time and each of the songs were totally well executed. They played with heart and enthusiasm and connected to the audience really well. The taiko drummer wa AMAZING and Ms. June on the koto was magnificant as usual! Also, the food was delicious at the Birchmere....though the service could stand some improvement. All around a great night out and would definitely see them again. And I look forward to going to the Birchmere again as well!

I have seen many concerts by Hiroshima and I have never been dissapointed. The deliver the good musically and socially. They are entertaining, live and in living color, from start to finish. One thing I like is that they allow each member to have a solo during the concert, the other thing is that they look like they are enjoying what they are doing. I like what the band leader said, it's a gift to play and a gift to listen to the music. I thank God for the gifts He gives people and that He deposited into this band.

The concert was very interesting mixing some asian instruments smoothly into the jazzy tunes. Our only disappointment was that the concert started about 30 minutes late due to extended benefit activities and we had to leave the concert early to make it to our post concert dinner reservations.

I've been a fan of Hiroshima for several decades, so I was really looking forward to seeing them in concert, especially at a small venue like the Birchmere. Their sound was great, but they didn't get too deep into their library of songs, mostly because the front man took up nearly a quarter of the show by talking about the history of the song they were about to perform. Nothing personal dude, but i paid good money to listen to you entertain me, not give me a musical lecture. I'll keep my money in my pocket next time they come through town.

this is one of my favorite jazz bands. Have all of their CDs, but not the newest one. I thought they would play more of their old stuff versus the new. The audience seemed to feel the same. June was on fire Saturday night, as well as, Kimo. Just wish they would have played more instrumental than having Terry Seals sing (he has a great voice). Would I go again, probably not. I'll just listen to my CDs.

Hiroshima is a very well seasoned (4 decades) internationally renouned jazz fusion band. What an incredible performance. Kept the entire audience totally enthralled the entire duration of the two hour show. Dan & June are both so very personable, conversing with the mostly senior crowd. The show featured each musician individually, each one taking the lime light as well as contributing to the collective mass. This is synergy at it's best. Dan is a multi instermentalist (winds). Kimo was front and center holding the rhythms together and co-song writer. Richly experienced Bassman Dean powerfully comprises fifty percent of the rhythm section. Well what can be said about June ? The facts are almost beyond words. Who and where can one find the uniquely refined use of the ancient traditional Japanese stringed 'Koto' ? An absolute master of this insterment she is. June is the worlds best at what is becoming an almost lost art. The incredible drum solo topped off the end of the encore leaving everyone dazed. WOW ! WOW ! WOW !

Attended their live show in Las Vegas Santa Fe casino. June was great as usual on the Koto. Danny seemed like he had one too many to drink as he was wondering all over the place. The key boardist had one solo that was too long and meaningless (church organ gone wild!!!) and the drummer was very good.

Hiroshima was a band I was looking forward to hearing. I have several of their CDs and have enjoyed them very much. The live version however was a little disappointing. They brought 2 singers with them who seemed like they were phoning it in. The endings on the vocal numbers were waaaaayyy toooo looong. Get it over with already! Songs that were "koto songs" were, at times overshadowed by other instruments. The version of Another Place, instead of being strong and beautiful, was all over the place, although played with great fervor by June, the koto player. I will still listen to the CDs but now that I have seen them live, I won't do it again.

I really like the group and always go to their show when they come to the Birchmere. This time they had two singers added to the show which were good, but too much talking was going on. I would have liked it better if they played more of their songs. They did not play "One Wish" until the end of the show. I was somewhat disappointed with the show. Please concentrate more on the songs that made you popular.

Despite their long tenure of excellence, Hiroshima shows no signs of letting up. The show was filled with great music, both old and new. The performance was all high energy without any down periods. For a show that was not supposed to be in its final polished form, it was wonderful. The pacing and flow were both smooth. The music selections were great. Just not enough time, even in a generously timed show, to play all of their beautiful music. Kudos to the audio engineer who insured the music was being heard just as the musicians were performing it. Awesome show in a great venue.

Strange how 35 years can fade one's memories -- I don't remember them having singers back when they started out in the 1980's -- remembered them as just being an instrumental group. For me, I enjoyed their songs that didn't have singers -- my wife, on the other hand, enjoyed the songs with the singers. We both especially enjoyed it when June played her koto solos-- she was awesome!!!

Besides our love of the wonderful renditions that Hiroshima perform, we were attending this event to celebrate the passing of our dear friend Bob Friedrich who was taken from us early because of an accident. Hiroshima dedicated this show to him as one of their favorite fans and one of the Birchmere family. The performance was superb and unforgettable. Our group of 25 commented on the show. Many of them were not really jazz lovers, but they were in awe after the performance and stated that Hiroshima had changed their mind about jazz and they would definitely seek out more of its music. Thanks to Hiroshima and thanks to the Birchmere from the bottom of our hearts and for Bob's memorial service\u2026.

For the fans that love this group, you received a supreme show. I have followed this group from their humble beginnings and can still hear the rhythmic drums and sounds of Da Da in my head. This group was truly welcomed at the Birchmire and didn't disappoint. Though some of their newer music styles are a little reminiscent of the late George Duke, Brick, Herbie Hancock, and Linnie White to name a few, it was refreshing and still had the oriental touch we have grown fond of.

When I first heard Hiroshima would be performing on Friday (I was already there for Thursday's concert), I was thrilled. I paid $199 dollars to stay at Morongo an additional night. I have every song they have ever recorded; I am a die hard fan. However, I felt cheated as the show turned into the "Terry Steele" show, backed by Hiroshima. Even though Terry Steele has a nice voice, I didn't drive 300 miles to see him perform; I came to see and hear Hiroshima. I was so disappointed that they did not perform any of their classics. Had I known they would not even perform "One Wish," I would have passed on this concert. Xmas music was nice, but I literally got up and left before the concert ended because I couldn't take another second of Terry Steele. If in the future if Hiroshima features an artist, I would like to know before spending my money. I felt cheated and tricked.

Hard to to do a real review. All we could hear was bass drum and bass. We left after the third song. Not the first time the sound has been completely mismanaged at a Station event. Also, the sax player should limit his banter between songs to a few seconds! Saw Brain Culbertson the following night. 1000% better!

I wasn't really sure what to expect, but was truly overwhelmed by what I got! Very smooth, highly stylized music presentation. If you like jazz fusion, Hiroshima is a must-see, must-hear experience. While she won't admit it, June Kuramoto may well be the best koto player in the world. She is clearly the best in the United States. She makes that ancient instrument rock! And taiko player Shoji Kameda, the newest member of the group, brings something very special to this unique ensemble -- and it's guaranteed to get your head bobbing and your feet tapping.

I (We) have almost every album (CD) these guys have ever recorded. I am absolutely overwhelmed by the perfection this group has achieved over the course of their career. They have always been well above par but I feel that they are well above musicians in their craft simply because they are so totally committed to total mastery of both their instruments and the study of jazz and the progression of many artist involved that endeavour over the years. To watch this group play makes one aware of just how much love they all have for their music. I lived in Japan for almost 4 years, and I can truly say that I have never seen the Kyoto and Taicho drums performed as this group does. They have a leader true, but they are all contributing as composers, players and equals. Their efforts make me feel that we should attempt achieve the same level of absolute perfection and dedication for the sake of us all! Thank you for the experience. Listening to them play makes you realize the depth of their understanding of jazz because you can literally hear the influence of the various artist in their music. Miles Davis used to bring me to an emtional level that was unsurpassed by any other group or artist. I must tell that this group has forever elevated me beyond that an I feel that is not an easy task to accomplish. Please keep this group coming and to let us know when and where.
