Lake Street Dive

LAKE STREET DIVE:Hailed by Rolling Stone as the year's  "best new band" upon the 2014 release of album Bad Self Portraits, Lake Street Dive have made a big impression with their creative brand of soul pop. Anchored by the honey-toned vocals of conservatory-trained frontwoman Rachel Price, the band's breezy, indie-inflected tunes are nothing if not confident, reflecting the training and virtuoso musicianship of the band's talented members. Lake Street Dive impressed the pants off of Ellen Degeneres performing live on her show in 2014, building excitement among fans for their upcoming tour dates.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Formed in 2004 by a group of students at Boston's New England Conservatory of Music, Lake Street Dive started out as a country act before settling on the jazz-inspired soul pop they're known for today.

When we saw LSD at the Bearsville Theater a few years ago, they were damn good. And when we saw them at the Basie on June 29, they were (in my wife's words) "Ten Times Better". Let's hope that the addition of keyboardist Akie Bermiss is not a temporary move. The show was put together well and builds nicely. Toward the end, they really let loose with "Good Kisser". If you check their website, you will see that they are playing to sold out houses across the USA. No wonder. They are THAT GOOD.

The show was fabulous! You can't take your eyes off of Rachel Price as she belts out the tunes. I would have liked to see the drummer located somewhere else though. On the side you didn't even notice him. Can't wait to see them again!

There won't have been many in the audience at the Bowery who'd traveled from England to see Lake Street Dive but we did and it was worth every minute and every mile. Rachael's voice was better than ever - they were clearly having the time of their lives and so were we. Thank you Lake Street for a fabulous gig and truly memorable experience. See you in Birmingham, England. And maybe London .... but why oh why are you not coming to Manchester? We're campaigning to get you on the Dermot O'Leary Show on BBC Radio 2 when you come over. Four cities is not enough!

The band, Lake Street Dive, was good enough. Lead singer is focal point of group, and she is wonderful, with terrific stage presence. Place was filled with her fans. Musically the band is good, not great. They are clearly on their way up--but there is a problem. Just about all their original material is weak to bad. Since the lead singer reminds me of Amy Winehouse, to an extent--she is not as good--let me say that Amy succeeded not only because of her voice and stage power, she succeeded because of her songs, many of which she wrote herself. Advice to LSD? Get a song writer.

It's always fun to see a band right as everything is coalescing for them-- there was a real electricity in the room. It's clear that these guys have been working incredibly hard-- good to see it paying off. Great venue (Sinclair), super-enthusiastic crowd, really good new CD and some fun covers as well.

I been around music all my life, raised in a little Bayou town were the Cajun French Music, Swamp POP, Zydeco, was basically was born, was into the late 60's Rock, early alternative , Punk, Rock music that started in the 70's, 80's 90's, into the 2000's, so when a band like Lake Street Dive comes around, never heard them before, and the band makes you Tingle!!! well I'm impressed, I have been to the HOB time and time again, perfect venue for bands like LSD to perform, like being at a private show, I'm sure I'll be back for the next one, also the VIP seating was perfect also, the staff at HOB top shelf, we will be talking about this one for a long time,

It was a beautiful July night on the Fore River in Portland. Thompson's Point is a great place to a show (though I think they need to better manage the whole "it's OK to bring a chair" plan, after lugging my chair for about 3/4 of a mile, only to be told I couldn't bring it in...but we dealt with it). The lines for the food trucks were long, but the lines for a beer were not, which in the long run was just fine. We managed to find a great place to stand and enjoy the show. Lake Street Dive was absolutely fantastic, and while Rachael Price gets a lot of attention - and rightfully so - the band itself is tight, and a pleasure to listen to. With the blend of vocals and instrumentals, the evening was one of the best I have ever experienced in my 56 years. The selection of tunes was a nice blend and well balanced between old, new, with a ballad cover of Michael Jackson's "I Want You Back" thrown in for good measure. Just a great show. I cannot wait to see them again.

This is the 5th time I have seen LSD and they are getting very popular. The first 4 times were much smaller venues and the shows were AWESOME! The price you pay for being popular is more people want to be part of it. Thompson Point is an amazing venue right on the water under the stars. The show was high energy and fun. Great to hear her sing the new songs from the new CD. (Nice touch - everyone who bought a ticket got a CD in the mail before the show). All in all a great night but I wish they weren't so popular yet!

Lake St Dive was great, as always. A little disappointed that they were on stage for just over an hour. The opener was well received, but not really my cup of tea. So lots of waiting for a short show. Venue holds a lot of people well. Food, drink and restrooms readily available - although I did not try any of those options. Food looked and smelled good as I watched people return with food. It is well managed from entry to exit despite the crowd. Overall a beautiful Maine evening spent hearing wonderful music.

My first experience at Thompson's Point, and it was all good. I'd seen Lake Street Dive a bunch of times at the State Theater, but never outdoors. The show was incredible. The band was at the top of its form, the opening act, though they took a little while to warm up and catch their stride, was very good, the sound system worked great, the Port-O-Potties were clean and sufficient in number that I never had to wait in line, the security folks were pleasant and completely inoffensive, the variety of food trucks was impressive, and the lines for beer and wine were polite and fast. All in all, everything worked smoothly and comfortably. We had a terrific time and would definitely return for another show there by the right band.

Lake Street Dive was incredible One of the best bands on the face of the earth. The set was a great mix of old and new songs. I brought two newbies to the show. Both were blown away, one said that it was his new favorite band. It was the first time for all of us at the Count Basie Theater. The venue is beautiful. As far as the experience overall, I thought they were understaffed at the bar. I wanted to see them make more money. They were probably one or two bartenders short at the downstairs bar. It broke my heart to see all those people waiting to give them money and then having to wait in a line that was the length of the lobby. That whole concession/bar downstairs should be revisited for large crowds. The sound seemed muddled. I've seen Lake Street Dive on the road in much larger and much smaller venues and I can say that the sound set up did not match the sound of which they are capable. It wasn't awful, but a band with such outstanding vocals and musicianship deserved a better set up. I would go see Lake Street Dive anywhere but I would be very picky about going back to the Count Basie for anybody else. Now, it may be that I was all the way to the right in the orchestra but I had the same exact area when they performed at the Beacon in NYC and there was no such problem.

This was the best night! Lake Street Dive is my favorite band and they did not disappoint! It was a perfect blend of new tunes, old favorites, and amazing covers. Loved that Mike Calabrese was wearing a Philadelphia Eagles shirt during the show. Mikaela Davis was a good opener. Makes great music and rocks on the harp. But waved goodnight before the last song in her set was over. But it's super cool that both her and Lake Street Dive come out after an amazing show to meet fans and sign autographs. The Fillmore Philly is an excellent place to see a show. Great layout, not cramped. Wished the parking situation was better. But plenty of places around the Fillmore Philly for a bite or drink before or after the show.

Since my first time seeing Lake Street Dive (LSD) on TV - I've been impressed with them. The event, some kind of TV concert promoting the film Inside Llewyn Davis. Anyway, I was simply blown away - and have traveled to see them live twice so far - the last was this past weekend at the Ulster Performing theater in Kingston, NY. The songs, i believe all composed by the members themselves are terrific. But the musical magic and energy produced by these musicians on stage is unbelievable. The tunes are current-sounding, memorable and very well arranged. The lead singer simply has too much charm, beauty and talent - she'll absolutely seduce you. Her singing is flawlessly supported by a guitar/trumpet player, who skillfully fills ALL the necessary chords and tones, a drummer who masterly lays down the perfect percussion track, and probably my favorite of all, the bass player who attacks the song from every possible angle. For this show (and the new CD), LSD added a keyboard player who was also amazing. Having said all that - and as an old Doo Wop guy from way back - I must credit the incredible harmonies produced by LSD- they're absolutely non-stop at times - ALL the members pump them out and it catapults their delicious songs into high earth orbit.

I have been following this band for years and their show is tighter and more professional every time I see them. They are simply on fire - musicianship, songwriting, collaboration, it's all there and it keeps getting better. Rachael Price is THE voice of the century, a powerfully sultry and nuanced tornado. Bridget Kearney's bass chops are massive - she commands her instrument with the force of a lion trainer. Mike Calabrese is all over it on the drums and a blast when he chimes in on vocals. Mike "McDuck" Olsen lays down tastefully cool rhythm and lead guitar and soulful trumpet lines. All members contribute original material, the bulk of it coming from Bridget and McDuck. Their cover material is fresh in interpretation and execution - a dead-on "Bohemian Rhapsody" closed out the show with enough flirty flash to make Freddie Mercury proud. It's been a pleasure to watch these amazing performers hone their craft and gain recognition. The audience was enthusiastic and Lake Street Dive was overwhelmed and grateful for the love. They deserve it and you deserve to treat yourself when they come to your town.

Lake Street Dive has always been musically a real treat. Their instrumental interplay, harmonies, and the unique and terrifically accomplished voice of Rachael Price make for an amazing band. They have, however, really upgraded their staging, lights, and sound quality. The LSD support staff are obviously upgraded a ton from previous shows that I have attended. This is my 6th LSD show. The sound mix is more dramatic, the bass and kick drum are now seriously kick ass when appropriate, the lights are part of the show not an after thought, Rachael now engages the audience between songs, and her stage presence is now first rate. The band exudes clean living, good health, maturity, joy, -- just a breath of fresh air. Of course their music is the reason I keep coming back, but the who package just keeps getting better. Five stars!

Lake Street Dive brought their funk out for Portland. Despite misting cold on the water, the group didn't hold back at all. I've been following these guys for the past five years and have been dying to see them live. They are every bit as good live as they are on their amazing records. Rachael's voice is absolutely divine and she has a natural energy that is very pleasant. Only criticism I have is that they are a little stiff - Rachael in particular. Dancing on stage was limited to two stepping the entire show. I know they are seasoned (which definitely shows in their demeanor) but I would really love to see them loosen up a little bit. Lake Street Dive is absolutely the best new band of 2014. Because they were playing opening sets in Portland and Seattle, we flew from Seattle to see them headline (a full 90 minutes!) in Las Vegas. They were stellar. Completely worth the trip. However, I can't give the event 5 stars because of a major security problem down front with a very intoxicated woman that security completely missed. We finally had to make them aware of it. She was so gone she was falling over and banging into people, so her boyfriend began holding her up. It took at least a couple of songs after notifying security for these people to be removed. The boyfriend was screaming and swearing. It really marred the evening. Considering the very responsible, intense security upon entry--bag checks, metal wands, pat downs--I was very surprised that nobody was paying attention on the other side of the door. I felt bad for the band, who must have been distracted, but continued flawlessly like the pros that they are. It was an unfortunate situation that could have been avoided.

First off- the 8by10 club in Baltimore is a good venue to see up and coming talent. The 250 capacity club is super intimate and seeing LAKE STREET DIVE in this setting was well worth the 31/2 hr drive from Jersey. I saw a lot of great shows in 2013 but this was one of my favorites. Although RACHEL PRICE fronts the band with incredible vocals- BRIDGET KEARNEY (bass), MIKE OLSEN (trumpet and guitar), and MIKE CALABRESE( drums) all play critical roles in the success of the band. The band has already come a long way since this show with stellar write ups in ROLLING STONE and a great TV debut on COLBERT. Anyway- they put on a great 25 song show with high energy and exceptional musicianship! I will be bragging about seeing LSD in a small club for years to come.

I discovered Lake Street Dive just a month or so before the concert through NPR Tiny Desk on YouTube. I knew immediately this band had something special and I could not have been more right. After seeing how many albums they've released, I'm shocked I hadn't heard of them sooner. They're an incredibly talented group, and the lead vocalist is electrifying. That's the only word I can find to describe her performance and talent. After the first song, my wife and I turned to each other and both said out loud 'She is fantastic.' Rachael Price's singing and dancing commands the attention of everyone in the room. While it's difficult not to focus solely on the lead singer, don't miss out on watching the other members master their craft before you. The bass player on her stand up bass, guitar, drummer, and keyboardist are all very talented and it's very evident in the quality of their performances. We've already purchased tickets to catch them on another leg of their tour and can't wait to watch our kids as they take in a live performance of this talented group.

Honestly, Lake Street Dive was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. They had high energy and were very receptive with the crowd. Plus they sound even better live. My only regret is that I didn t know all of the songs! Listen to their albums before you go!!

1st class show! It's refreshing to hear a modern band that includes a trumpet and a stand-up bass in their repertoire. Stage and lighting were as professional as it gets. Rock, pop, soul, and jazz vocalist Rachael Price is a force to be reckoned with. The band's music speaks for itself. One of the most telling things about the band is the diversity of their audience. Gen Z'ers, Millennials, Gen X'ers, and Boomers can all be found under the same roof for this show. I'll be seeing Lake Street Dive any time they come into town from here on out.

This was my first time at Roy Wilkins, we sat in the balcony. It was a cool venue for the size, I prefer mite intimate shows. Only complaint is the the styles of music from Bruce Hornsby to Lake Street were so far apart. I would've liked to see an opener more in the realm of Lake Street.

Every performance was amazing. Roy Wilkins is a great venue with fantastic acoustics. I went to see Kind County and Bruce Hornsby but was blown away by Lake Street Dive. This was my first time hearing them. Definitely a fan now and can't wait to see them again.

I had balcony seets and had a really hard time hearing them band. Considering it was an AARP concert and I m in my 30s I can t imagine who could hear it. I thought Lake Street Dive was fantastic and would highly recommend them to anyone. I would like to see them again in a different venue.

If you're a fan of real, live music played by top notch musicians with a minimum of gimmicks and hoopla, Lake Street Dive is just the ticket. While Rachel Price fronts the group with her awesome vocal prowess, the rhythm section of Bridget Kearny and Michael Calabrese keep things groovy. Mike Olson rounds out the ensemble, applying tasty licks via guitar or trumpet. And oh, the harmonies! Tight clean backing vocals are a hallmark of this band, and only sweeten the magic that happens when these four hit the stage. Am I gushing? Goddamn right I am. Whether it's straight a straight ahead 4/4 Rock tune or one of their oddly time signatured songs, the hooks and the appeal are ever present. This is Real Live Music, folks. Do yourself a favor and catch their show the next time they come to town!

This was my second time at a Lake Street concert. I was happy to have a seat in a perfect sized venue, as I had to stand at the last one. I love thier music and the incredible talent that they bring to their live performance! It is obvious to me that they love what they do! The light show was beautiful and enhanced the evening's experience

The band was better live than i expected. They were all incredible. It was as if the singer could just sing for hours and hours, her voice never waivered. A wonderful night of music- i'm so glad i got to see them perform. Don't miss them!

From the opening tune, Bad Self Portraits thru the encore, they were totally entertaining. Rachael Price is mesmerizing. Her incredible voice (perhaps the best out there) and her sultry movements on stage are fascinating. The group not only has great harmonies but a great vibe as well. The instruments used in some of their best stuff is simply a trumpet, stand-up bass, drums and keyboards. I find it difficult to describe their musical style because there is nothing else out there like it but I tell everyone who will listen that these guys are incredible. I would see Lake Street Dive again in a heartbeat. The whole show just made me feel good.

This band just keeps getting tighter and better. What a great show. Also, they must have THE GREATEST sound-man around. EVERY time I hear Lake Street Dive I find myself commenting on the levels, the mix, the overall sound; it is just impeccable. Only thing I can somewhat neutral comment is Side Pony probably the worst song they have ever recorded. However, they MUST play it every show for obvious reasons. I would fill that 4 minutes with any other of their tunes. Again, EXCELLENT show and bucket loads of kudos to the sound crew.

I was so happy to get to see them in Westbury. Every time I see them coming to the NYC their shows are sold out. Now I know why. They put on a wonderful show. Their music is great, the lyrics as well. The lead singer is mesmerizing. You can tell they love performing and the joy is infectious. The opening band, Lawrence, were great too.

One can appreciate Lake Street Dive so much more when you see them live. They are full of energy and talent. They truly appreciate their audience and want to please. Lots of enthusiasm. Saw them at Radio City but appreciated them much more in this smaller venue.

Hailing from a Massachusetts music conservatory, these four have all the tricks up their sleeves to impress, but it never feels frilly--if they're on stage, the crowd is grooving and meaning it, too. That's perhaps the best verb for Lake Street Dive--groovy--whether it's the contagious confidence (oh, the dancing) of lead singer Rachel as you both spit the lyrics onto whoever needs a telling, or the transcendent genre you can never put a label on. Rachel carries the lead remarkably, and from the set list (appropriate covers, oldies but goodies, timely tempo changes) to solo spotlights, every other element makes out for a well-rounded show. I may be biased as a clear fan, but even a stranger can agree (and I've found myself in rookie company): the music is good, and the show no less.

This was the 5th time in 4 cities in16 months we've seen LSD. Rachel Price is one of our favorite vocalists and happy artists. Every show gets the audience up and moving. I'm asked what type of music we like often. It's varied, but I always mention LSD. SEE THEM!!!

The opening act Joey Dosik is a trio from California, great sound and stage presence. Lake Street Dive was excellent, every member of the group is very talented and the voice of Rachael Price is PRICELESS. The only negative was the LSD's stage lighting early in the set was blinding, had to close my eyes.
