I've listen to the Books for a few years now and haven't gotten a chance to see them until now. I was honestly worried that they weren't going to be able to reproduce their music live but i was blown away with their performance. They had some computer problems which meant that they couldn't do some of their songs so instead they just improv'd the missing parts on other instruments and it was spectacular. Best time I've had at a show in awhile!

I had been waiting to see the Books for a couple of years now, so when I saw they were coming to town, I got the tickets as fast as possible. They did not disappoint at all, either. They played a great balance of old and new songs, and even though a large portion of their music is recordings, it didn't hinder their performance. The videos that accompanied the songs were great, often hilarious and profound. An overall fantastic performance.

This was one of the best shows of the year, hands down. The books are brilliantly smart listening.

This was probably the best show I have been to in a while. The venue was really wonderful. The opener was pretty bad, but the books! oh my they were amazing. I have never seen someone play like that. They put on a great show and their music sounded amazing. I wish they would come back soon I definitely will have to bring more friends next time they come around.

I listened to The Books online and thought they were good but not amazing, therefore I was happily surprised by the excellance of their live show. Teens and adults alike in my group came away excited by the wonderful blending of poetry, art, rhythm, and humor. Plus they're all really cute. Love the addition of the violin, guitar, keyboardist!

The books perform with a seamless integration of audio and visual performance, also stopping to explain the source for a lot of their material. Great band, great performance. The one flaw that it was all quite planned, they did an encore, but admitted they had already planned how many songs to play, etc, so it lost the spur of the moment feeling.

I knew The Books was a highly original band from what I'd heard in their mp3's, but I wasn't quite prepared for the degree of high art and brilliant moves I experienced in their live show with the integration of found footage edited and timed to a perfect pitch to work with their compositions. They are inspired artists, and inspiring for anyone lucky to see them!

These guys are even more cerebral than you might expect. The show was reserved but powerful, funny yet poignant. They didn't rock, but did something much better.

Just a superb performance. Their music and video combinations are unique and offer mini-journeys into creativity and entertainment. What a treat it was, too, to see the applications of sounds and voices that have delighted me acoustically for the last few years. It's so in-line with the kinds of music I'm really drawn to. The complexity of the tracks presented on such great beat structures seem to work so well. I look forward to many future delights of the senses!

The Books killed it. The mixture of the videos and live music is freaking sweet, I really enjoyed the "I didn't know that" song with the golf video playing in the back. "Classy penguin" was rad too when the singers brother came out and shredded some bass riffs. The Books got an awesome thing going by creating a beautiful sense of imagery that pull you in and away from the live music, making it that much more impressive when you look back and see them playing along. The venue is like a smaller Wiltern with booths on the side, whacked out Resonance wallpaper and a balcony that was not needed for the concert that night. (get there a bit early and buy your drinks at the bar next door instead of inside) PS: pretty sure I saw the actor Cillian Murphy there.

so ive seen them twice before. both times i wasn't sure if they were actually playing their instruments. this time i saw them, i was sure that 80% of their performance was pre-recorded, and that there was virtually no "live vibe" to the show. so i walked up to the merch table to talk to the front man's brother, and i told him it was pre-recorded and he just smirked. . . i told him it was milli vanilli. . . and he told me it was more like karaoke. . . which pretty much confirmed that much of the performance was a fraud. . . most of the audience didn't care, because they were too busy watching the innovative video performance that was synced to their "playing" - and to be fair, it would be impossible to recreate their albums, considering how detailed they are, let alone to sync it up with the video performance. . . but honestly, i would rather settle for less "dazzle" if they would just stop with their compulsion to always come across as perfect. . . . . in short, it was like watching an indie version of the country bear jamboree. . . . .

Plain and simple if you have any interest in The Books it would be in your best interest to round up the funds to see them perform live. Their music mixed with the projected outlandish videos is truly the complete package. With songs that are clever and humorous, relaxing and intense, simple and intricate it is a performance that will instill all sorts of ranging emotions. You will laugh and you will dance. You will get lost in the music and the repetitive yet building sounds and you will become memorized by the hypnotic videos that run throughout the performance. All and all an absolute grand hour and a half experience. Do it. Just go. Trust me on this.

Three wonderful multi-instrumentalists who employ with each composition large-screen videos as instruments. Their performances trancend "new-age' music forms to turn each composition into a joyous celebration of life. Witty, humourous and infectous, the Books live will leave you bouncing in your seat. In truth, fun for the whole family!
