Bonnie Raitt

Bonnie Raitt

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

I ve seen Bonnie several times, and her level of passion and emotion (combined with our good seats) made the show extra special. She was calling songs out of the usual order as the moment struck her. The band sounded great and Jon Cleary opened with his band and then played the rest of the evening with Bonnie, a real treat!

The first act "The Honeydrops" were wonderful. Very talented musicians, vocally and instrumentally. Perfect sound for the islands. Had people happy and up out of their seats. Bonnie Rait and band were awesome. Not only did they perform two encores, but had so much fun, stayed and performed a couple more songs. My only complaint was purchasing VIP Parking. There were no clear instructions given with them. We first waited at least 30minutes in what we were to find out was the regular parking and were told to go around the corner and enter on Ward St. We did and were in the arena VIP parking and had to leave that parking and go a little further and there was our Concert Hall VIP parking. We bought VIP tickets to be stress free. Blaisdell and Ticketmaster need to communicate VIP parking instructions to the customers. After the parking fiasco was over, the evening was excellent!

At 67 she can still hit those high falsetto notes, and the Pearl Theater is a great place to see a concert.

It is refreshing to hear a female blues player. Her style with the steel slide adds the unique sounds to her music. Of course Taj is always a soul getter.

The Mann Center is a perfect location. Great acoustics, a relaxed atmosphere and plenty to eat and drink. The show was outstanding. Bonnie and Taj played separate sets and came together for great duets and the finale. Bonnie s voice was clear and her guitar licks are as excellent as ever. Taj is tireless with his great voice and excellent lyrics. I am sure the tour will be enjoyed by all. The combination of the two supporting bands brought the house down.

Although we enjoyed being in Philly, the outdoor setting of the Mann Center, the mellow crowd, and our excellent seats, we were disappointed with the concert in that it was too much Taj Mahal and too little Bonnie. Granted, it was only their 2nd performance on this tour but we've seen Bonnie before (at the Beacon) when she spent a lot of time introducing bluesy guests and doing their music. We prefer Bonnie Raitt all by herself. We have been a Bonnie Raitt fan for over 35 years. We really wanted to hear her songs, especially some of the oldies like "Love Has No Pride."

This was the fifth time I have seen the fabulous Ms. Raitt and God willing it will not be last. I heard some first timers grumbling that she did not do this and that song and I can appreciate that, but this was an awesome show. This is the kind of show seen in a downtown blues club. It was jamming and deeply blue. I greatly appreciate the jams and the songs that I have not heard her do live. I personally do not go to concerts in hope of hearing 'the record'. I LOVE hearing other tunes and familiar tunes done somewhat, and even drastically, differently. I believe that Bonnie said that it was the second show in the tour which leaves room for some improvment in regard their 'getting tight' with one another. The music was incredible and the weather just made it that more wonderful.

I purchased the tickets to this show early: shortly after they went on sale. Although we live in central Maryland, I was not concerned about the 2-hour drive to Philadelphia: I figured we'd make a day of it. I have long been a Bonnie Raitt fan, and I wanted to also introduce my daughter, who is an aspiring guitarist/songwriter, to her. We go to a lot of concerts and they have been predominantly male acts, so I thought that Bonnie Raitt would be good for her to see. I do not think that the blending with Taj Mahal was handled smoothly at all. The choreography between the two acts was very awkward and did not flow smootly. Taj opened and did a mixture of blues, calypso, and other styles that I did not expect. His blues numbers were exceptional, the others significantly less so. He played a 50-minute set, which I thought was about right for an opening act. Bonnie was great, but she did not play several of her more popular songs and that was a disappointment. After her set, she and Taj got back to gether for a few more numbers and it just felt awkward and wrong. I think the who show was all over the map and lacked focus. One final note that adds to the oddness of the evening: After Bonnie's too-short set, she left the stage following the typical concert formula: leave, crowd stands for an encore, artist comes back. In this case, however, she left and ONE THIRD OF THE AUDIENCE got up and left too! It was bizarre. She came back, only to see all these people leaving en masse. It was so shocking, she actually was moved to plead "don't leave," although leave they did. We stayed, still hoping for the rest of her act, but it never came...

It was raw.It was sweet. It was hot and jumping. The show opens with Taj backed by the fabulous Phantom Blues Band. They kill for about an hour. Then Bonnie and her band come and blow it up. Sprinkle in a little Bonnie and Taj 'blues summit' during her set. Then for the finale both bands play together...let me make it clear... THEY PLAY TOGETHER. It's not a mish mosh of a bunch of performers trying to be heard . It is twelve musicians just makin musical magic. Bonnie's voice was crisp, clean, and strong. Taj was awesome. If you only see one concert this year...If you've gone to ten concerts this year...do yourself a favor and go to see this one. They will not disappoint.

I saw Bonnie Rait a few years back at the Mann Music Center and really enjoyed the show. This time around there were several songs I did not recognize, since I have not really listened to her music as of late. What I really wanted to hear was more of her older songs, but besides that fact, I found the show enjoyable since she is a great performer.

For over 3 hours, Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal rocked the Mann with the best Blues I have ever heard. She did "Angel from Montgomery" and "I can't make you love me" to overwhelming crowd response. Taj played "Queen Bee" and many others, changing instruments with almost every song. He played banjo, guitar, bass, keyboards, harmonica, and more. They played some of their best stuff together, with the whole crowd on their feet.

The show opened with a set from Taj and the Phantom Blues Band. It was a well chosen set mixing tunes from his early 1960s days to the more current. The energy was incredible, the band was tight yet loose enough to appear to be having fun. Bonnie came out with her band and played a really great mix of her tunes as well as great blues and R&B from others. She brought out the sax and trumpet players from Taj's band for a few numbers before Taj came out for a few numbers with Bonnie's band. The energy really went up for these. Bonnie finished her set and brought the whole Phantom Blues Band out to join hers. The set that follows was one of the best Blues/R&B sets I've seen over 40+ years. All said, it was a great show all fans of blues and R&B.

The cool evening breeze was a prelude to what was to come. The show was COOL. Bonnie was on top of her game, her voice was as strong as ever and her musical selections, and slide guitar revved-up the crowd. Apparently, Bonnie's fans don't allow excuses with cold weather. Plenty of folks were present to be entertained by the Bluesy Rocker. It was me and the wife's first-time to see her live. We had a nice side view of the concert, and the binoculars gave us that extra 'zoom' that we needed to see the cute expressions coming from Bonnie's face. She interacts with the audience in a down-to-earth manner. Despite the cold (which she made a point of more than once, but in a humorous way, and understandably so), she gave us fans our money's worth.

Bonnie and her band put on an amazing show. She made people laugh, she was giddy, and she looked like a rock star. Her voice still sounds the way it did thirty years ago and I'm just so impressed by her guitar playing. Her microphone has a stand for her tea and lipstick (that she turned around and put on in the middle of the show without trying to make people notice). She made the crowd dance and hold their loved ones tighter. If you haven't seen Bonnie Raitt rock out, you haven't lived. The best part was after the show...when I waited half an hour in the cold to wait for Bonnie Raitt to come in the back by her buses and met her! She was a really down to Earth kind of woman... some other fans were a little hasty though. She signed her first album for me that I brought. Loved it!!

Best concert I've been to, ever. If you like Bonnie, you'll love this concert. Bonnie is the consummate pro with stage presence and charisma performing great material. I've been a Bonnie Raitt fan since 1973 though I've only seen her in concert twice before, once in the '70s and once in the '80s. Taj Mahal performed first but was hardly an opening act. He later joined Bonnie for that final third of the concert and got the audience up and moving and dancing. I want to hand it to the audio tech for great sound; not blasting the music so loud that your ears ring by the end of the concert. You could hear every individual instrument and vocal. The Greek's big screens were a disappointment though because the remote camera operator or director was asleep at the wheel. Rarely on the right instrument or person at the right time and out of focus to boot.

First, they were incredible. Classy, classy, classy. Second, probably the best value in concerts out there! And part of the proceeds still went to charity. They each did individual sets, Bonnie invited some Taj Mahal band members to come out and play with her, then they she and the entire Taj Mahal band came out and played together. At the end, we counted 12 band members on stage. Wow! They even had played a few sets with both drummers!! What a great concert. If they could have only done something about the bone-chilling wind that kept sweeping through Red Rocks! :-)

I was expecting a good show from Bonnie (Raitt) as ive seen her before, and she is always good. But i wasnt prepared for what i experienced that night. I am at a loss of words that will properly describe how incredible of a show i saw. Bonnie had complete command of her show! There were times you couldve heard a pin drop in that theatre, as the entire audience felt every bit of the emotion coming out of each song. I cried, and I laughed, and I filled myself full of great music, played to me from the heart and soul of an unparralleled musician. I am a picky concert goer, and have seen hundereds of shows, and this one was one of only a few i consider to be the very best! Bravo Bonnie!

First of all, kudos to Team San Jose for bringing back this gem of the Silicon Valley, The Civic Auditorium! The place is the perfect venue for us baby boomers looking to reconnect with our idols can come and enjoy a show in style. The joint is comfortable, convenient complete with food and cocktails. Most important, the site lines and sound/lighting are just incredible! What can I say about Bonnie Raitt? Still the same beautiful, timeless, incredibly poignant artist with on the money social commentary. I love the way she wove her opinions on current conditions into a warm, sexy and beautiful set of mainstream hits as well as gems you don't hear her do all that often I could not review this show responsibly without saying that her opening act and singer/songwriter, long time collaborator John Cleary's Trio from New Orleans, was simple amazing. It was quite simply a kick ass set. Teaching us all about the way the "Big Easy" lays down the funk! Come play our Jazz Festival John! Keep it up City National Theater, we'll be back!

Bonnie Raitt put on a show that was warm, inviting, funny and incredible. She has such talent it is almost unimaginable. A lot of the show was what she called "audibles" which means she picked a song at that specific time and the band just went with it. Her voice just makes you want more and more. It was a special evening. The venue was good -- smaller (which is nice), parking was good -- but the seats (which were okay with regard to comfort) were placed so close together (both back/front and side/side) that all of us found ourselves constantly shifting to find a place where we weren't bringing our shoulders or arms into ourselves. For a $100 seat, I would have expected a bit more room. But that was minor compared to the artist. She set the tone and I could have listened to her for days. No doubt I would see her again - and at the same venue.

Love the way she did each and every song- from jamming out to "One of My Kind" in the opener to taking her own sweet time on "Angel From Montgomery", milking it for all it's worth!! Just incredible!! Sang like BB King and played BB's guitar licks on the key Board, with Bonnie back him up with the slid guitar. A must see show.

We had fabulous seats at the Fox Theater in Oakland. Easy parking and I noticed BART was just around the corner. Bonnie was spectacular. She recreated a few of her older songs and I wished I could get a copy.. No cameras were allowed and to all of our surprise on her last song she said we all could take pictues and we did. I have seen this woman for over 30+ years and hope to see her for 30+ more.

I had not seen Bonnie in concert since the early 80's but I wasn't disappointed. She's still great and I loved her comments between songs. I love watching her play guitar - she's up there with Clapton! Wish I had better seats. I was on the side in the Loge - but I was there!

The opening act will go on to be well known. A wonderful compliment to the show and Profoundly talented in their own right. I understand even Joan Osborne got to see the magic fill the theater and the people rise up to savor the essence Bonnie created!! Bravo!

Not sure, but it appeared Bonnie was or had been sick, and vocally she is usually better. But 80% of Bonnie is better than most. She gave an emotional performance and the audience reciprocated. She mentioned the soon-to-open National Blues Museum in St. Louis, locals Chuck Berry and Leroy Pierson. Disappointing that some songs from recent shows were not included - particularly Runaway. To be fair, it's possible that she just couldn't do too many high energy songs and opted for slower, quieter acoustic ones. But as usual, nobody felt cheated after a Bonnie Raitt show. She's a wonder. The opening act (California Honeydrops) was both adorable, versatile and exceptionally good. Actually they were so good that Bonnie Had a tough act to follow.

The Detroit Opera House ~ incredible venu. Bonnie's voice is flawless, clear and beautiful, just like her. Loved her NEW songs and the crowd went wild with her old. When she sang Angel from Montgomery we were on our feet with NO opera etiquette. She said to her sound crew "turn up the lights, I gotta see this" ~we didn't stop! She will pull you in and fill your soul. Thank you Bonnie for a fantastic show.

I've seen Bonnie Raitt 20+ times and she is always fantastic. The venue, The Hard Rock is good except I wish the ushers would control obnoxious people instead of their futile attempt of stopping people from taking pics with IPhones.

This was such an enjoyable evening in a very special venue. March Cohn opened and put on a 35 minute show that felt like it was over as soon as he started. Bonnie Raitt came out on her 64th birthday and put on a fantastic show. She had a kick-a** band. Her keyboardist tore it up and came across with great background vocals...great blues voice! Bonnie has improved with age!!! :)

It was an amazing evening with Bonnie.. I went with my 34 year old daughter. The first time I saw her was with my Daughter when she was 10 or 11.. It was her second concert she had ever gone to... To this day her and I both sing out Bonnie Raitt in the car at our homes together ! Bonnie you are timeless and still as amazing as ever!!!

Bonnie is a musical phenomina. If her soulful interpretations of absolutely pricelss compositions don't pierce your heart, her ability to rock your world will certainly punch you square in the gut. Her band (with none other than the most righteous white man to ever sing a blues tune, Mike Finnegan) was so tight they popped the buttons off Bonnie's blouse. Bonnie's honey-smokey-sweet voice made me cry---made me laugh---made me cry, again. I wish I was Mr. Raitt. If you EVER get to see Bonnie ANYWHERE (but especially at this, one of the world's finest venues, the Santa Barbara Bowl) DO NOT MISS IT. I hope heaven turns out to be just like Bonnie at the Bowl!

I've seen Bonnie in concert at least 5 times (starting in the 70s) and she has always been amazing. This concert was a more low tech event than I've seen lately, which was a little disappointing. Every other concert I have been to this summer has had large to gargantuan monitors so that everyone at the concert could see the artists' faces and feel like part if the event. Assuming that this concert would be the same, I didn't bring binoculars. I might as well had been listening in the concession area, even though I had seats in the first level loge. That said, I was not disappointed with Bonnie's music, but wish she had sung more of her songs from the 70s. The Bowl, as always, was a great venue. We got there 20 minutes before the concert, parked in the nearby high school lot ($10) and then rode a pedicab (donations only) powered by a really nice hunk a of a guy. Only missed the first few notes of opening act bWarning: if you need disabled parking, call ahead to reserve a space; they go quick, especially a concerts that attract an older crowd.

This was my first time at this venue and seeing Bonnnie Raitt. Concerning her opening act, being from the south and having sat in many a spiritual church service lead by a soulful front person, I didn't find Ms. Mavis to be impressive, as I have seen better do the same for free. HOWEVER, Bonnie Raitt did not disappoint! She was spot on, she enjoyed the audience, she sang and played immaculately. Her voice was as mesmerizing as always and I couldn't get enough. She played several tunes from her new album, about three I did not know, so I wished I had listened to the new album a little more before, but she still played all her best sellers, and again, she did it amazingly. Her keyboard guy was also quite impressive with his performance. I cannot say enough about how amazing it was to be at Red Rocks Amphitheater! I flew in from FL! (But the climb to the top was EXHAUSTING for this Florida girl!) It was an experience well worth the cost and effort. Also, she doesn't allow any pictures. :(

What can you say about a show that started with Marc Cohn and ended with the slide guitar queen. Bonnie looked great and sounded even better, her band was super tight and they looked like they were actually enjoying themselves. The highlight for me was when she just gets down and dirty with the blues. Great Show, dead crowd\u2026get off your butts people!

My wife and I had never seen Bonnie live. We were delighted with her honesty, and humility. She sounded great! She changed things up a bit, but not to the point of compromising the music. We hope she keeps on touring, although she deserves to enjoy the fruits of her labor, and enjoy her success without killing herself. So, selfishly speaking: Keep going Bonnie!

Great venue. Great opening act (California Honeydrops). And a super performance by Bonnie Raitt. Nearly two hours on stage with lots of good conversation between songs. A mixture of old and new, she and her band were on top throughout.

I'd seen Bonnie multiple times; been a fan since 1973. Never seen a show in Las Vegas, but the opportunity to hang with local friends AND see Bonnie was irresistible. The Pearl Theatre at the Palms Casino is a GREAT venue. There are very few, if any, bad seats, and the stage crew was pro and adept. Openers, California Honeydrops, were wonderful, which is to be expected whenever Bonnie plays. Several folks said they are not accustomed to opening acts in Las Vegas, but Bonnie has a long history of supporting other musicians, another reason we love her. This was the band's first show after a break, and despite Bonnie's self-disclosed recovery from a chest cold, her voice was up to par (great). Also, guitar genius George Marinelli had apparently grown a beard (of sorts) over the break, which was a source of comments that provided peeks iinto band cohesion. Bonnie's band - like Bonnie's performance - is a practiced, well-oiled, collection of excellence. Each member is a musician, and they unite in support of the song. Bonnie apparently changed up the song list when she called out Love Letter, and nobody messed up. Look comes to push, push comes to shove, shove comes to touch, touch will come to love. She was wonderful.

Great experience; wonderful venue, Bonnie Raitt and her band were slammin' even with a few musical hiccups. We heard them on the first night of her 2017 tour in Long Beach. Ricky Fataar (drums) was ROCK SOLID. The night was full of standout moments which covered the last 40 years of her career. Very memorable, fun experience for her two-hour show.

We were seated in section 104, very good seats but the seats were metal folding chairs with very little padding. Had to leave early because my wife and I were in pain. I would think the Pearl Theatre at the Palms could afford better seats. It's a beautiful venue, why so uncomfortable? The show was advertised to start at 8:00 PM but she started quite late We're an older couple and Bonnie's music brought back some fun memories. She's still got it.
