Azealia Banks

Azealia Banks

Acclaimed hip hop artist Azealia Banks’ prodigious skills belie her age. Born in 1991 and raised by her mother in Harlem, she discovered her yearning for the limelight at an early age and enrolled in the La Guardia High School of Performing Arts. A blossoming acting career beckoned, but it was music, in particular rap music, which helped Azealia discover her identity. When she was only 17, and under the pseudonym Miss Bank$, she released her first track “17” on MySpace.

We were all getting restless waiting on Azealia to perform, and we had to wait a while for her opening act to start as well, but I was in the early crowd and was in the front of the venue. Regardless, you will yell a lot, jump up and down, and lose your voice for a few days. Azealia picked the best songs she had that would be guaranteed to move the crowd, you will not be disappointed.

This was my first time attending a show at a small venue and I had to say the experience was su-PERB. Azealia is a great performer and knew how to command the stage and captivate her audience. My only complaint would be the ridiculously long wait times in between sets. The wait was far too long for performers with no live instruments, just a DJ.

I just heard of Azealia Banks earlier this year and instantly became a devoted fan. Her raps, her beats, her style is amazing. Not as well known yet, but she is going to blow up later this year with the release of her album. In the mean time, she has given us 4track album 1991 and mixtapes and singles. Check them out. This concert wasn't just a concert, it was an event labeled the Mermaid Ball LA and many dressed up in theme. I loved it. She brought with her some bad ass female artists as opening acts and a DJ that played throughout the night and kept the crown pumping. Although Azealia's set was short, the whole event lasted about 4hours. One hell of a BALL! P.S. Robyn surprised the crowd while joing opening act Rye Rye.

The energy was incredible she even pushed through a hair malfunction and kept the show going, a true icon! Also her opening acts Sateen & DonMonique slayed the stage too. Great vibes all around

After spending $30 in ticket fees going through Ticketmaster I m going to a show at 11 PM with no listed openers, and the star had not arrived by 2 AM. The DJs were terrible, people are LITERALLY falling asleep on the dance floor, at 2am we left. Upset about a Wasted $100, many people were outside the venue and in the subway complaining about having to leave the show disappointed as well. I ve never been so disappointed at a show or at a venue. Was a terrible way to Celebrate pride in nyc.

She was 2 hours late to the show just to perform for about 40 mins. Then she kept having wig problems and went back stage to fix it, but she just put a headband on. I was not a happy camper. The fact that she didn t apologize for her tardiness made me lose all respect.

She was amazing all and all!! I loved her performance, that venue should of had more chairs and it should have started sooner than it did, other than that I had a blast! Well worth it

Seeing Azealia has been on my list ever since I mised her at Coachella her first time in 2012, so being able to see her at terminal a semi intamate venue was amazing. The only problem I had was the length other set. The doors opend at 7 her "opening" act went on at 8 I believe finished around 8:30 and she didn't go on for another 30 minutes. I understand you don't want to go on until most of the tickets that was sold has been scanned in. But she finished the show at 10 which was really short to me seeing as she has 3 albums to pull from. She didn't even do that much from BWET which is her debut album. Over all though it was a great show at a great location; her energy was high and the music was great. Thanks so much AB

Miss AZ showed up 2.5hrs late and only sang 6 songs? What happened? I thought she would turn up for the hometown show!!!!! Let's not even get started on the opening act, I don't know who those guys were but they should stay far away from a stage.

This was a super-long show, doors at 7p, and Azealia Banks didn't go up until nearly midnight. As a result, we went in late, about 10p, just in time to see Charli SCX, who was quite boring. Rye Rye (who we missed) is a better performer and should have been the lead-in act. After Charli SCX, there was a mermaid costume competition (bizarre but entertaining), AB's intro DJ... a fun interlude. and then Azealia Banks... who blew the doors off the venue, even though her sound system was sorely lacking. AB's star power overcame all shortcomings. Confetti and balloons ended the show. Overall, it was a great night!

Mermaid Ball LA was definitely something I'm glad to have not missed. The elaborate costumes, decor, free cotton candy... etc made this a really fun evening, as well as the music of course. Azealia's set was high-energy an exactly what I'd hoped for, but a longer one would have been better. She did '212' and some other hits from her first EP and some select pics from "Fantasea", but did not go in-depth on either. I'd love to see her again just as Azealia without the mermaid ball, just to see more of her catalog at work.

When I got the tickets for this, the email I received from TM said it was for an Azealia Banks concert. It turned out it was for an overly long Interscope promo party that lasted 5 hours with lots of dead air that was very poorly filled by the obnoxious Brooke Candy (Enough of her!). First there were 4-5 songs from a kid named Gita. She's just a kid. She's not concert hall ready. Then, there was Maluca who just got going after 2 songs and suddenly the plug was pulled. Then, lots of delays. Then, really the unexpected high point of the show was an unscheduled appearance by Rye Rye who brought on Robyn for one number (although Robyn's mic cut out some). Then, more delays. Finally, Charli XCX arrived who really was good but didn't fit in a a hip hop show. Then, more delays. Then, a very campy, unnecessary mermaid costume contest featuring various women and cross-dressers/trannies. More delays. At last, at 11:40 p.m., Ms. Banks began and sang for about 40 minutes amid lots of glitz, balloons, etc. She's not bad although her stage presence was lacking. She had to confer with the DJ Cosmo (really good throughout the show) after every number with her back to the audience. Boo! And there were lots of go-go dancers who at times had no clue how to move to the music being played it seemed. Pretty, but not really relevant. Should have delivered a shorter show with just 3 acts (Maluca, Rye Rye and Azealia), no Brooke Candy, no go-gos, less glitz, no contest. The problem with that would have been that Rye Rye would have over-shadowed Azealia as she has more talent at this stage of their careers.

Really needs to bring it a bit more fiercely - I see the potential. Production value was low. Set/stage was un-inspiring. Chromeo really brought energy and pumped it there. I really like the venue, so it can be done. She's young and quite new. She'll get there, but her people need to put it together to help her.
