Bowling for Soup

Bowling for Soup

Bowling for Soup started life as a punk-pop outfit in 1994. The original line-up consisted of Jaret Reddick, Chris Burney, Erik Chandler and Gary Wiseman. However, it was 1997 before the band's popularity really grew. In 1998 they released their debut EP, Tell Me When To Whoa!, as well as their first album, Rock On Honourable Ones!!!.

Their opening bands were from Tucson and they were...pretty awful. But man, BFS was so great! They were taking requests and dancing in the crowd. Totally awesome. : )

Show was amazing. It was my first time seeing one of my favorite bands, and they did not disappoint. They were musically very tight, and in great spirits. The set list had plenty of new stuff, as well as good tunes from prior discs. One of the best values I've gotten for my buck in a long time. Hooray for beer!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I truly appreciate the music of Bowling For Soup, but this was quite possibly the second worst show I have ever seen. There was way too much talking on stage. I understand that a little miscellaneous banter helps bring the crowd into the show, but stopping during almost every song to "chat" is too distracting. Not only was there talking during the songs, but the on stage conversations between songs fealt endless. After the fifth song we had lost interest due to the lack of music being played so we left the crowd and hung back by the bar. Even from there the banter was overwhelming. Now, endless stage banter aside, when the band did play they were great. Seriously. Great. They had a great sound, seemed to play pretty tight, and every one of their songs have the greatest hooks. How could you not like them...Hopefully the band reads this and cuts down on all the talking on stage.

These guys are solid musicians who write catchy lyrics and most importantly will keep you laughing the entire show. They definitely don't take themselves very seriously which makes them so much fun. I've seen them twice and I highly recommend their show and CDs.

I looove this band. Their energy, attitude, riffs, lyrics, etc. This was the third time I've seen them and also the worst. It wasn't bad, they tried to screw around and joke it up but had a unresponsive crowd and that's tough. But the show was really short (maybe 10 songs?) with one oncore, no shout out requests like usual, and just seemed more obligatory that fun. Sorry Soupers. I know they were heading to Michigan the next day, and have many shows daily with few breaks but in all honesty, was disappointed. Come back again soon guys, maybe with Army of Freshman again, (much better warm up band than this time), and start having that drunken fun again!!!

The smallish crowd waited through two sadly uninteresting bands and a semi-cool highly literate rap group. The low point of the evening included the Green Man crowd diving into no crowd - he landed hard on the concrete but bounced back up to make a hasty exit. When the headliners finally took the stage, they spent more time chatting with each other (often in the midst of a song) than they did playing. The crowd noticibly thinned as they droned on and as we left many left with us...

BFS is always fun to see live! They have a great time at every show, usually cracking jokes in between songs. I have been a fan for 12 years now. I first saw them in Ft. Hood, TX and have seen about 6 shows now. They are a great group of guys, always willing to chat with fans after the show. If you want to see a fun punk rock band, I would recommend going to see BFS!!

It was awesome! I am 18 and I never gone to a concert before. That makes me a concert virgin. And bowling for soup is my first rock concert! and I did not regret doing it the first time with them. lol XD I came all the way across the world to see the band play. yes, literally. I flown through 13 time zones from my hometown to get to this concert and it was all worth it. I was having the best time of my life. Jaret and the band was funny like hell! I could not stop laughing throughout the night. To see the band play again, I would be a sucker to miss it I mean the can totally rock and blowing people's mind off and still be able to enjoying doing what they are doing. even though for hundreds of repeated time! These guys sang about their 'little guys' but people still do not call them an a-hole for that. It was awesome! A Bowling for Soup concert on friday night is a good clean fun. I was enthralled

Not only was the show amazing, the opening bands were amazing too. But, by far I think the best part was meeting Bowling For Soup PERSONALLY outside of the club. Fans were able to talk to them one on one, and get autographs and pictures. It was simply AMAZING.

The concert was amazing. It was my first concert at the Record Bar, and my first Bowling for Soup concert. Their openers (KC's own Fists Up! and New York's Just Surrender) were some of the best opening bands I've ever heard, and they were great with the fans. Just Surrender signed a CD I bought that night, which is great. Bowling for Soup was amazing, they had humor in their set, along with old and new songs and they made it just overall a great atmoshpere to be in. I'd definitely see them again if I get the chance, especially if its in a smaller venue like the Record Bar because then you get the personal feeling of almost being able to touch the band without security telling you to step back! Great to the fans, played awesomely, and definitely rocked my night!!

I waited five years to see Bowling For Soup live, and last night I did. The opening acts were good (MC Lars especially), but when the time came, I was more than excited for Bowling for Soup to take the stage. They started about ten minutes later than originally planned, but around 10:42 p.m., the "Bowling for Soup theme song" came in loudly over the monitors. "BOWLING FOR SOUP! HEY! BOWLING FOR SOUP! HEY!" And the crowd sang along to it. The four of them took the stage, Jaret (vocals/guitar) with his hair spiked very high, Erik (bass/vocals) wearing a The Leftovers (a band on Jaret's record label, Crappy Records) t-shirt, Chris (guitar/vocals) ready to make hilarious, inappropriate jokes, and Gary (drums) to speak his mind if ever handed a mic. They started off the night with "The Bitch Song" off their 2000 album, Let's Do It for Johnny! and kept things going with (in no particular order): "The Last Rock Show" and "Punk Rock 101" off their 2002 album, Drunk Enough to Dance; "Almost," "Ohio (Come Back to Texas)," and "Two-Seater" off their 2004 album, A Hangover You Don't Deserve; "High School Never Ends" and "I'm Gay" off their 2006 album, The Great Burrito Extortion Case; "No Hablo Inglés" and "My Wena" off their new album, Sorry for Partyin'; and a Lady GaGa cover. Between every song, and sometimes even during songs, the band would stop to talk about random things ranging from Minneaplois-St. Paul being one or two cities, poop, and Gossip Girl, along with the "first ever Bowling for Soup beer break with no audience participation allowed" and the "first ever Bowling for Soup photo-op." The guys played fantastically, they were hillarious between songs, the crowd had a lot of energy, and they sang along with most of the songs. I went home with two new shirts and two picks, one of Chris's and one of Erik's (my friend got me an Erik one!) I am VERY happy that I got to see my favorite band after listening to them for five years. I really hope isn't the last time I see them either.

Bowling for Soup is without a doubt one of the best pop-punk bands out there and their shows prove it! Not only do they sound great live and play a great set ranging from everything from their early stuff to songs off their latest albums, but they are also incredibly funny and love to joke around and interact with the audience inbetween songs! It was easily one of the best shows I've ever been to and I would defiently go see them again if I was given the opportunity to!

I've seen Bowling For Soup play before, the difference being that it was on Warped Tour, so they had a very restricted time available. Somehow they managed to play just about the same setlist in the course of twice the time, opting instead to talk for long periods of time and at one point pausing in the middle of a song for a "photo op". One of these periods included what was probably the most awkward proposal possible, and overall the crowd environment was just very uncomfortable. I really enjoy this band's music, but most of the crowd was very drunk, to the point that someone standing in the back of the crowd still had to watch out so as to not get knocked over. The reason that this review is getting 2 stars instead of 1 is that when the band was actually playing music, they were very good, and the venue did everything that they could right. TL;DR: If you want to see Bowling For Soup play, wait for a festival or something so the crowd and length of the set are more enjoyable

I have seen BFS 6 times and it sad how much they have declined. Basically their show is now bad improv comedy with some songs thrown in at various points. The playing is sloppy and it seems like they are just going through the motions. Jared is a talented guy and a great songwriter, but it does not seem like he cares anymore.

This was the 16th time we have seen BFS. Assumed they would play new stuff as the tour was named after their latest album. That was not the case - played their standards and seemed like they were just going through the motions. Did not seem to have the interplay with the crowd as they have had in the past.

To start with I'm a huge BFS fan!!!!! First chance to see them live. These guys brought their A game, played all my favorites. The opening acts where fandamntastic!!!! Especially the Dollyrots I am now a fan. Each of the bands really know how to treat the audience. If you have a chance, you have to see them live! The venue (Mercury Ball Room, 502) was perfect for the band's flavor ie.....Small crowd everybody was close enough to catch picks!!!!!! If they come to this venue again count on at least two ticket sales and some tour stuff sold as well. Rock on.

Great energy, great crowd interaction, great performance. It also helps that the venue was awesome. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that the openers felt out of place. Not bad, but not great and out of place. Can't praise the headliners enough though.

After the third song, they claimed that would be the last time we would hear three in a row, as they were too out of shape and would need time to rest. Well, that rest turned out to be long-winded, absolutely filthy banter that completely brought down any musical momentum the show could have established. Being there with my children ... since it was advertised as an all ages show ... I would have hoped the band would have taken this into account and not included all the talk about deviant behavior. I'm no prude, but this crossed WELL over the line. Overall, it was a drunk, sloppy performance.

If you are looking for a great time, look no further. Bowling for Soup is simply the most entertaining band in existence. The songs are classics, the vibe is great, and no one has more fun on stage than Bowling for Soup. 21 years of chemistry result in a flawless blend of humor and punk rock, with a heavy dose of self-awareness. Highlights include: Special guest appearance by Patent Pending, the Musically-Enhanced BFS Photo Opportunity, 17-year-old Superfan Elan playing lead guitar, and all the classic BFS songs you rocked out to in 2006! Soup, there it is!

The show was to celebrate the band's 20 years together and on a night that George Strait was retiring across town, Bowling for Soup showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The show started with birthday wishes from acts that had previously opened for the group as well as members of the Metal genre that the band has befriended. As for the show, the band blasted their way through 20 years worth of material covering everything from their early years to songs on the upcoming greatest hits album. The band played til early in the morning, so even though some of my favorites did not get played, I still enjoyed this show!

As always, the guys from Bowling for Soup were in top form, and they performed as I remember. However, the cover bands: Freshman Fifteen and Patent Pending, were allowed to perform too long. Bowling for Soup did not come out on stage until 9:30 pm and the show began at 7 pm. Freshman Fifteen was too loud and rather awful. Patent Pending was better but we were there for Bowling for Soup, not them! In my experience, cover bands should play fifteen minutes each then on with the real show.

Opening act Freshman 15 was unbearable. Next opening act Patent Pending was very fun and entertaining. Bowling for Soup are very talented but didn't appear to take this performance very seriously. They stopped at least half their songs right in the middle to talk aimlessly about nothing. Then they would pick up where they left off and finish. Once or twice is fine but time after time was very annoying and kept the concert from picking up any momentum. After they did it yet again on 1985 we just waited for the ridiculousness to end and left before they encore. Had they just played their music it would have been an excellent show.

Patent Pending was very energetic jumping everywhere on stage and brought a lucky girl up for a stage dive. They also did some funny choreograph dancing and had a friend pop locking on stage while covering Cascada - Everytime We Touch. The Dollyrots are just awesome and they even have a song about being awesome. Kelly is cute and funny but will also whoop your ass like jackie chan. Jaret from Bowling for Soup came onto their set and sang a little with them. Bowling For Soup was very funny and engaged with the crowd, speaking as a whole or to individuals. Patent Pending took over their instruments in the middle of a song and finished it their way. Kelly also came on and sang the last chorus of 1985. To top it off Jaret came into the crowd and all bands on stage for a dance party to finish "A Really Cool Dance Song" I like the nightclub/pub/bar events because it's not a large loud stadium, and its not a small cramped basement. So the sound was great and you could hear the music and lyrics great. Plus everyone gets to be in the action up close, move around, not being fixed to a seat. It was very entertaining the bands interacting with each other. They are the best of friends touring together. And they treat the fans like their your friends. Patent Pending and The Dollyrots hung out at the merch table to give hugs, smiles, and talk about random stuff. They aren't just a band to watch and listen to, they are your friends.

Patent Pending, the opening band for Bowling for Soup, was freaking amazing. They put their heart and soul into their music and performance. Epic performance. You could feel their energy. They came out on stage acting like they owned the place, and performed like they were the band you paid to see. Just amazing. Oh yea. And Bowling for Soup was good too!

I will critique, but the only real regret I have is that it's over. This was my first show at the Starland Ballroom, it's a pretty intimate place and there's not a bad seat in the house. The translation here is it's a great place to see a show. I use the term "seat" loosely because there aren't a lot of them. The main viewing floor, directly in front of the stage, is completely open for mosh pit dancing and throwing your friends toward the band. There is a fully stocked bar directly behind the main floor which is elevated to about the height of the stage, this allows for a great perspective of the show. There are also two elevated side wings with easy access to soda and pizza both within direct view of the artists, it's almost impossible to miss anything that happens on stage unless you have to pee or want a tee-shirt. OK, enough ranting about the place. The show itself was excellent, there were three or four opening bands and I would have to say that "Sexy Heroes" stole the prelims. They played with a boatload of energy, stoked the crowd with an audience participation number and came prepared with CD's and Tees for the fans. Keep the name in mind, this is one of those bands you may be able to say, "I saw them when... " Bowling for Soup, diversified is an understatement. How you can get a hit on a Nick kids show, stand on stage talking about whose sucking who, and get a grammy nomination for a song that every mom in America is BeeBopping to, is a complete mystery to me, but they do it, and they do it with style. I think the major reason for their success is how they never forget where they came from or who actually appreciates them. They are completely down to earth and are willing to laugh at themselves, each other and anyone else that feels like laughing, it's infectious. Big Chris was out, between groups during the show, walking his dog and taking pictures with the fans on the floor. YES, IN THE CROWD, with his dog, taking pictures with any and every fan that wanted to snap a photo. Are you kidding me??? Like I said, the worst part is, it's over. There were a couple songs I would have really like to hear that just couldn't be fit in, missing from "my" set list was "Trucker Hat" and "Down for the Count", two of my favorites from the "Hangover You Don't Deserve" album. The only on stage change I didn't understand was what seemed that the Closing Number "1985", to me it was played at double time, almost rushed. It's really not a complaint, everyone left exhausted and happy. I would certainly do it again all over tomorrow if I could. Thanks to everyone that provided the smiles and memories that will last forever.

Bowling for Soup is an overall fun band. They seem to enjoy interacting with the audience. During the opening acts performances various members of the band wandered thru the the room shaking hands, signing autographs, and taking pictures. Granted, I don't know any of the band personally, but over the years, I've seen them in multiple venues, and each time enjoyed the show very much. This includes they band itself, not just the music. This time around I bought my children along ( 16, and 20) who've gone with me before, but also bought 2 more tickets for friends traveling with me, and told 4 other people who came also, just because I asked them too.

AWESOME! I'm the mom who got crowd surfed! My whole family enjoys Bowling For Soup. This is the first concert my husband and I went to together. We have every cd. If I would have known that all ages meant I could have brought my 8 yr old, I would have cuz she's a huge (petite) fan! My 2 teenagers rocked and had a blast and thanks to this show, they want me to get tix for Saturday's show in NYC at Gramercy! and I loved The Dollyrots! Great job, Joan Jett, for signing them! Bowling For Soup put on a kick ass show, great for all ages, so much fun, full of energy, played great live-YOU ROCK!

Bowling for Soup puts on a great show and performs like they want to be there to entertain. Good music, a couple quick laughs in between songs with their commentary. Great show guys, just get a different opening act....Dollyrats put the crowd to sleep....throw them back where ever you got them from and take Sexy Heroes all over with you (much more entertaining band and sounded a lot more professional

Bowling For Soup is one of the best bands in the land, so I was excited to see that they were coming to town to do a full show, and weren't relegated to being an opening act in some retarded WNCI radio package. I've seen these guys maybe ten times in the last several years, and as always they delivered an amazing set, consisting of the hits and a few rarities tossed in for diehard fans. They are funny, engaging and interactive, and if they come back to town, you should not hesitate to buy the very inexpensive tickets to see them. However, I will never go see another show at The Basement, so if they play there, I guess I'm out of luck. Whoever decided that putting a show at the head of a tiny pit with pillars all around it was a good idea deserves to be beaten. Simply put, if you are unwilling to fight your way to the very front of the crowd, you can't see. End of story. If you are too far back into the crowd, you can't hear, as you start catching reverb off of the shitty speakers they have set up further back in the bar. Many people just gave up and watched the show on the closed circuit televisions. Seriously? If I'm paying for a live show, I don't want to watch it on fucking TV. A band of this stature could play the Newport, at least. Come on, PromoWest, show a little judgement. The Basement sucks balls. But Bowling For Soup are awesome.

Bowling for Soup did not let me down. They put on the most fun and energetic show around. Even with Chris being sick. They played a good mix of old and new music and rocked the house and ended strong. I would highly reccomend this show to any BFS fans, no matter how hard core they might be.

This is not the first time I have seen a Bowling for Soup show and it is never a disappointment! The opening acts leave a bit to be desired but BFS is awesome. They are more than just a sing a song, repeat, concert is over kind of band. They insert comedy and conversation into their entire show. If you are looking for an amazing evening I would recommend thier show in a heartbeat!

This was the first time we have seen BFS live and they did not disappoint! The show was fun and intimate and the guys looked like they were really enjoying themselves. They played for a really long time, all the best songs and some fun new ones. Very lively the whole time, we loved it!

Bowling for soup was awesome. They played many songs from their various albums, not just the current release. The show was at a smaller venue that is always nice to see a band at rather than a large arena.

This was a great show. BFS always puts on a great live performance, and this was no exception. They focus on the audience and the music rather than the flashy pyrotechnics and costume changes that some acts rely on. The only downside was that the venue had some obstructed viewing. There are some large pillars (I assume load-bearing) that form part of the separation between the pit and remainder of the audience space, and it is very hard to see around them. Unless you are in the pit area or right at the edge, straight on, you can't really see all of the stage. Which is slightly ironic since it is very small.

Bowling For Soup is great live! You get 2 shows all in one: Punk rock and improv comedy! None of their jokes or lines are rehearsed and it's a different experience every time. You won't be disappointed!

Bowling for Soup is fantastic as usual but what was suprising was the opening bands. The Golden Ticket was a young band with a lot of developing to do but a great sound and very enthusiastic. Sky Fox was the big surprise of the night. Great band, funny, entertaining and a nice sound. Lead singer reminds me of Jaret.

This was my first time seeing them live, and boy they did not disappoint! They played a great mix of newer material as well as classic BFS hits. The crowd was energetic, and Jarret came down into the crowd and danced late in the show. It was a smaller venue so there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I would highly recommend that anyone see a BFS show! Patent Pending is one of the bands that opened for BFS on this leg of the tour. They are an amazing high energy band that you must check out!
