They should have ended the show at intermission. It was a waste of $35.00.If I could I would have given half of star.

The ads for the show are dynamic. But what we got was a thrown together piece of mess. I went to see this one after seeing another troupe perform with less people and do a better job.. The storyline sucked immensely. I am still flabbergasted they got booked.

A friend and I went tonight to see Cirque Zuma Zuma, all I can say is this show, which cost us a total of $80 between the two of us to see, was very ill conceived. It felt like a series of one act street performers got together and decided to make an event of it. My friend has actually traveled extensively in Africa, and for her the costumes were a major issue. While I appreciate the fact that a need for costumes that allow you to move are important it is still my opinion that a certain level of authenticity was warranted, especially considering that they are advertising to be an "African" cultural show. I've seen pictures she brought back from her travels in Africa, and the wow factor is there with regards to garb... but you won't witness them on stage during this show. Beyond costuming there was absolutely no cohesiveness to this show, so as I said, it felt like a series of one acts. The show started with a man introducing the production using a series of clicks and speaking, this was honestly the most interesting part of the evening. It continued with a man doing a climbing act on a chair and a handstands while adding more chairs, I'm not even going to try to amuse myself that this is something I could do in my wildest dreams, the amount of balance and upper body strength required to achieve what he did was impressive... what was less impressive were his constant pauses saying..."clap for me" Honestly the rest of the show after the opening was unimpressive at best. Some people juggled... I can see that at the renaissance fair... some guys did a cool pyramid... I can see that at a cheer leading competition... There was an act with hats... and throwing and wearing hats... many hats were dropped... appreciate the effort, I'm certain that it isn't easy and that I couldn't do it tomorrow... but before I got on stage I'd make damn sure I had my act down. honestly the most impressive part of this show was a girl with hula hoops... her performance was flawless... but still it was _her_ performance, not part of an ongoing show. I found myself sitting writing a show for them in my head, whilst shaking my head. My show involved djembe drums throughout the performance... music and the drums especially are awesome in African culture... perhaps the story of a young man on the hunt or etc... What I saw tonight I felt like I could have seen on a street corner in Atlanta with a poor talented person asking for your money... and honestly I would have rather thrown 40 dollars in his/her hat than have spent an evening tied to a chair feeling obligated to remain because I had spent 40 dollars of my hard earned money to be there. But hey, now I'm in South Florida with shops that have $90 moomoos for sale... so maybe tickets won't be as expensive in your city!
