Mingus Dynasty

I have listened to jazz my entire life. During the past 40+ years I've attended many concerts across the US and enjoyed them all. However, the Mingus Dynasty surpassed all of those in a single 2 hour experience. The quality of the original music is without question, leaving only their interpretation to ponder. The incredible care, compassion and quality the 7 members breathed into the live performance was exquisite. I give my highest recommendation to all to attend another performance from this group if you are given the opportunity to do so.

It was great to see Mingus Dynasty in Royce Hall. Last time I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl. My favorite tune they played was "Haitian Fight Song," a complex tune to which I can sing along (I've been practicing in the car!) The band's singer, Frank Lacy, did marvelous renditions of "It Can't Happen Here" and some other very bluesy tunes. Everyone in the band did monster solos. I can't wait to see them again.

loaded with virtuosity, humor, and swingin'. avashai cohen, frank lacy, alex foster..couldn't ask for more. the piano was mixed perfectly, with clarity, presence. wonderful show, part theatre and narration, all music. go next time if you didn't go this time!
