I went to "9 to 5" not expecting much. What I got was an AMAZING cast of singers and actors performing their hearts out in a very well written musical ! If it had played a 2nd weekend, I would have gone again !

FOR SURE, ATTENDING THE MATINEE PERFORMANCE OF "9 TO 5" ON A HOT SUMMER'S AFTERNOON WAS SHEER DELIGHT!!!! THE ENERGY OF THE CAST WAS MAGNIFICENT-----AND TO THINK, THAT THE CLOSING NOTICE HAS BEEN POSTED FOR THIS MOST ENTERTAINING SHOW! WHAT A SHAME THAT SO MANY THEATER-GOERS WILL NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THE FUN AND LAUGHS OF THIS STAGE PRODUCTION. WAS MOST IMPRESSED WITH THE SCENIC MOVEMENT-SO "FILM-LIKE"------NEVER A STAGE WAIT FOR A SET CHANGE......AND THE ENERGY OF THE CAST JUST LEAPT OUT OVER THE "FOOTLIGHTS" TO ENGULF THE AUDIENCE WITH THEIR ENTHUSIASM!!! YES, WE SPENT A WONDERFUL SUMMER'S AFTERNOON FROM 2 TO 5 AT "9 TO 5" !!!!!!!

This show is enjoyable mainly because of some terrific performances - especially the absolutely delightful Allison Janney! The sets are also terrific. The story is terminally silly, but that didn't seem to be bothering most of the audience. The weakest element, in my opinion, was the music. I love vintage Dolly Parton, but this didn't sound like her music at all. It was an uncomfortable theater/country/rock hybrid that was characterized mainly by being loud.

I saw "9 to 5" on 8/23/09 and I must say that it was an excellent show. The singing was excellent, the dancing was phenominal, and the acting was superb. The three main girls all played into their characters so well, and you truly felt for them. Megan Hilty did an amazing job portraying the Dolly Parton roll from the film, Doralee Rhodes. Her character was cute and adorable and you truly wanted her to get back at Hart for telling lies about her. Allison Janney, who played Violet Newstead, was also better than I expected. Ive heard many reviews about how her singing was not that good, but I thought she was perfectly fine. Yes she's not as strong as some of the other characters but she did a great job for what she could do and I thought it fit her character perfectly. Stephanie J. Block did an amazing job on the character of Judy Bernly. She perfectly made her character go through a huge emotional change from beginning to end. I truly felt bad for Judy who is very emotionally fragile due to her divorce and having to work for the first time in her life, but she changed into a strong independant woman at the end and stephanie did an excellent job at doing this. Her singing was phenominal as well her solo at the end of Act II was amazing. The understudy playing Hart also did an great job at portraying the "villian" of the show. I truly believe its a shame that this show is closing. These actors have put so much hard work into their characters and the rest of the cast has also put so much work into this show and they deserve to be able to continue to put on this show and show what they have created. I definatly reccomend seeing this show before it closes.

I liked this show a lot and think that fans of the movie will like it a lot. The iconic song 9 to 5 is redone and sounds even better. The other songs that Dolly added were catchy and fun to listen to. They also added something extra to the show. I felt that Megan Hilty did an awesome job portraying Dolly Parton's role, Doralee, from the movie. I think that she has an amazing voice and did the role justice. I felt the same about Allison Janney who portrayed Lily Tomlin's role, Violet, and gave the role some renewed confidence and gusto. The performance I saw there was an understudy for Stephanie J. Block's role of Judy, who was Gaelen Gilliland. I felt a little skeptical at first but after hearing Gaelen sing, I was presently surprised and happy with her performance. I think that everyone should see this show before it closes because it's a good time. If you liked the movie, you'll like this show and how it gives new life to the story.

We saw this musical last night and loved every minute of it. It was as cute as the movie with the fun of the songs added to enhance the storyline. We would recommend it to everyone we know. And we are hoping it will go on tour and come to San Antonio where we will see it again. This was thoroughly entertaining and the three leading ladies were all special.

Our family saw 9 to 5: The Musical at the Marquis Theatre while on vacation in NY. We had a wonderful time. Allison Janney was amazing as Violet, what a gift she has for comedy. Megan Hilty was channeling Dolly Parton right down to the mannerism and voice and Stephanie J. Block was wonderful as the nieve Judy. We saw 4 plays while in NY and it was by far the most fun we all had at the theatre. Don't hesitate to see 9 to 5: The Musical. You won't be disappointed.

We went to see 9 to 5: The Musical expecting a good show, but we were thoroughly blown away by how good it was! The music is great, sets are elaborate, script is really funny, but the cast is so very talented...they absolutely make the show. Allison Janney, Megan Hilty and Stephanie Block are all simply amazing. Marc Kudisch as "Mr. Hart" is fantastic too...and Kathy Fitzgerald as Mr. Hart's assistant, Roz, almost steals the show in several scenes. We would definitely recommend this show to anyone who wants to be thoroughly entertained for a couple of hours!

Allison Janney delivers a non-stop laugh, Megan Hilty hits Dolly Parton on the nose, and Stephanie J Block blows the roof off the theater as usual! If you enjoyed the movie, have never seen the movie, or have never heard of it, you have to see this musical! It is hilarious and yet speaks volumes on social issues that tend to get swept under the rug. If you have younger children, I would say wait and see it yourself before you take them. There is quite a bit of adult humor and language.

The cast is superb...Megan Hilty is more like Dolly Parton than Dolly Parton, herself, she was hilarious; Stephanie J. So often the transition between stage and film is in reverse, so one wondered how this would work out: rest assured, if you're a fan of the movie, you'll love this translation. Casting is fantastic -- Megan Hilty rivals Dolly in the original as Doralee, which is no small feat. Allison Janney is a fantastic Violet. Violet's character is probably the weakest of the bunch, but she's not bad. The actresses who play Violet and Doralee shared the stage in Wicked and their chemistry is obvious. The new romance betwen Joe and Violet is unnecessary and tedious, but it fades from memory quickly. You'll still be satisfied!

The Spreckels is a great location for any type of show. Great seats and sight lines and wonderful sound reproduction. The performers for 9 to 5, are all very talented with good voices and very good dancing skills. The show follows the story line of the movie, so if you allow your children to watch the movie than this show acceptable for that age group. It does have some adult oriented humor, IE: "MM's", but it is in keeping with the original. So for a fun night out, performed very well and the more reasonable price compared to other venues in the area, this is the best choice

At $100 per seat you'd expect a Broadway caliber production, not the case. There were no stage sets, they just projected a background on a screen, horrible acting and singing (with the exception of two actors), and and they didn't even buy realistic wigs. They used like $5 Halloween store wigs, with horrible (to no) parts, looked like a pile of nylon on their heads. It's hard to believe the characters, when the wigs are so bad that a real person would never wear one outside of the house. Last time I go to a production here. I left at Intermission.

I was very disappointed to come to the touring production of "9 to 5," thinking it would be a remount of Joe Mantello's fantastic direction of the musical on Broadway. But it was a different director/choreographer's staging, which was satisfactory but nowhere near the directorial brilliance of Mantello.

The cast was excellent. The voices and musical numbers were well done. No fault of the actors, however, was the sound system. The volume was deafening and you couldn't understand the words when the three stars sang together. Doralee Rhodes voice came off as loud and brassy-not her fault, but the sound system. After speaking to someone about the sound, the second act began with better sound, but soon changed to the brassy noise again. Hard to believe that such an auditorium would have such a poor sound system.

There were some positives to this Musical: acting, set changes, solo numbers sung in normal voice. When it came to the chorus it was a cacophony of screeching and we could not understand one word of the songs. The sound was deafening. This was my friend's first musical and his experience was dismal at best. Our seats were close to the middle in the first row of the Grand Tier Balcony. The four of us had to put our fingers in our ears for the group numbers. Why does the music have to be so loud that your pleasure quotient is nullified????

The play could have been excellent if we could have understood the words to the songs. DoraLyn's singing was more like screeching. We think she was trying too hard to sound like Dolly. At times the orchestra was so loud you couldn't hear the singers. Maybe it was the sound mixer that was at fault but what could have been a great show was less than great.

It was lots of fun and the characters were very well defined. It had you rooting for the women. However, the orchestra played too loud and two of the main characters, in particular had to sing-shout over the music......therefore some of the lyrics were hard to understand. The softer slower ones were much more clear. The Nine to Five lead song was well done in all its versions. It was fun having Dollie Parton part of the show as sort of an emcee.

This was a fun show to watch, and we enjoyed ourselves. The songs were decent, but pretty forgettable. Diana DiGarmo's accent portraying Dora Lee was annoying, and sounded like an exaggerated hill-billy Barbie doll, but her singing voice was very good. Fans of the movie will find the familiar story-line, but with some not-insignificant adjustments. I prefer the movie's characterization of both Roz and Violet, though this show did a better job of fleshing out Judy. Overall it was a good show, and worth the time to see.

The show was so much fun and lively. Every cast member was unbelievable in how they handled their roles. We loved the curtain with all of the events of 1979.....we only were stumped on a couple of the pictures. The music was totally Dolly Parton, which made it even more enjoyable. As I was leaving the theatre I heard a woman tuen to her husband and say "Well! It wasn't Les Miserable". She was right but she clearly had missed the point! Don't expect big budget special effects, don't expect a lavish production BUT you can expect to start smiling from the prologue to epilogue (both delivered by Dolly Parton). If your a fan of the film you'll love it as it stays VERY faithful to it. If you like camp theatre you'll also love it! If you love both you are guaranteed a great night!

Even though 9 to 5: The Musical wasn't a Broadway smash , I had been anticipating this show a lot, as I love Dolly Parton, and loved the movie. It opened with excitement..... then, a bit of a lull, to the degree that I thought...."Oh no, could be a dud." The "Mr. Heart" number was a let down. Then....about a third into it....it really picked up. There were several new memorable numbers. "Dora-Lee" made me nervous at first, but pulled it out brilliantly. "Violet" was terrific. "Judy was phenomenal. I was impressed with the pacing and set design. Very clever & creative. By the end of the show, I was glad I came. It was cute. Dolly's video cameos at first seemed cheesy, but ended up pulling me in. By thend, I was clapping and singing along. Overall....worth it.

First act seemed a little shaky, but once the cast warmed up they were good. I felt all the characters played the actresses from the movie very well. I think about 2 acts could have been eliminated, as it made the show a bit too long and wasn't really needed: The "love"scene with Violet an the Accountant and the scene with Judy and her Ex, went too long, but it needed to be in the show, just a bit too long. Ros' scene RE: her crush with Mr Heart was hilarious! Loved it! She did great! Nice touch having Dolly introduce and conclude the show :)

The movie was great--it should never have been made into a play. The first act was too long--it could have been reduced by 30 minutes. The songs were not something that you would leave the theater with any rememberance. The second act brought out the actors real talent and vocal abilities, as well as, a wonderful ending. Many patrons left after the first act, which we were going to do, however, out of courtesy to the performers- we stayed. The dancers were maginificent!!

This play by Dolly Parton was difficult to stay awake in at times. The movie was a cool revenge story, but it just doesn't translate onto the stage. The show seemed to run long, as everything that needed to be done could have been done in one act (if even that). The slapstick comedy seemed forced onto the stage rather than having it incorporated in the story. The three leads were actually very good, and their talent was the highlight of the show. Another plus was the fact that you could hear that Dolly actually wrote the songs, as some of them were in her style, and nearly all of them were well done. Overall, however, I would tell people to pass on this show. I nearly left at intermission, and I saw several people hoping in cabs, so I know I wasn't the only one with these thoughts. I bought discount tickets in Chicago, and still think I over-paid.

This is my second viewing of the show. My first viewing was the original broaday production. hile this show was entertasining, it ws notnearly as good as the broadway show. In setting up the show for the tour, the set has been changed greatly. This was something I new would happen since the set on broadway could not tour. I had no problem with the set except the ugly show curtain. I believe it was supposed to represent people and things from 1979 when the show is set but talking with the people around me,many of the icon can after 1979 or were no longer people/things related to 1979. It was two major changes that made the show much less enjoyable. First they cut a major song Franklin Hart had in Act Two that gave his character the presence needed for Act Two. The cutting of the song diminished the power behind the character. The major disappoint was either in casting or direction, I'm not sure which. On broadway each of the characters were stong believable women. In this production, Violet and Judy are played stong and believable. I never doubted either of these characters and I never once thought Dee Hoty was "acting" the role of Violet, she was Violet. Doralee and Roz was played over the top and came off as cartoons. I'm not sure if they were directed this way or if this was a choice of the actresses. I felt it seemed they felt that they needed to dumb down the show for the tour. It never reached the class the original had. If they had played all the characters as cartoons as these two characters, it would have also been fine but the two playing styles were at odds with each other. I never felt anyone was cartoony in the original production. I'm glad I saw the show. If it had been my first vieweing I would have thought I'm glad I saw it and never bother to see another production of it in another theatre. Having seen the original on Broadway first, I know what an entertaining show it is. I'm very glad I have my memories of the original

Loved every moment from beginning to end! I saw the movie more than once many years ago and liked it but this Broadway show made it outstanding. The actors were fantastic and even the scenery was cleverly and easily switched for different location changes. I could see this one again and again!

The show was adorable! I'm a big fan of the movie and really liked the changes that they added even if it wasn't what I expected - Great girls day with the boyfriend's family :)

In general the show was worth the money. There were several times when some of the transitions were not smooth. The music was enjoyable. There were several scenes that were truly funny.

The play was cute, and the singers were very good. However, aside from the theme song (9-5), none of the songs were very memorable. Also, the scenes and songs with the male boss were very sexist and offensive.

I originally saw this on Broadway right before it closed. There were definitely some changes made since I saw it then. The overall cast was good. The actor's that played Judy and Violet were very strong. I like Diana's portrayal of Doralee, but here voice was very tiny that the orchestra was too much. Hopefully, the work it out before close and the next stop on tour. The Hart to Hart number with Roz was very raunchy, but I loved it.

Going to see 9 to 5 was a nice evening out for my husband and me. We bought tickets from hottix.org; I would recommend this for everyone. It's a nice show but I am glad we didn't pay $100+ each for our tickets. The show was light-hearted and enjoyable with good voices and good Dolly-style music. I thought the actress playing Lily Tomlin's part gave a flat performance--emotionally not musically. Loved the recovering alcoholic bit! Mr. Hart could have been played more wickedly. Dora Lee has the Dolly sound, but I couldn't understand her words well.

The play was a lot of fun. I was concerned at first taking a movie and making a play but after about 5 minutes that concern went away! The cast did a very good job and there were no disappointments.

Amazing Musical. I had an awesome time. Volume and voices were nice and easy to hear and our seats had a wonderful view. Was a hike to get to our seats but once we were there is was so worth it. Dolly being there just topped off the night. How disappointing for her though (not to have a full house). Being suprised by a very dear friend with being taken to the concert made that night all that more memorable.

If you get right down to it this is a "workover" of a show that didn't do well in New York. The score is not something that will go down in show business history. That being said, we cannot remember the last time we had so much fun at a musical. From the overture to the final bows this was just a blast. We would urge everyone in this tour's path to catch 9 to 5. It will renew your faith that when you pay that kind of money - you should be entertained.

We enjoyed the show very much - true to the original movie with Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin. Diana DiGarmo was a perfect Doralee! We had five teenagers with us and they all loved it!

9-5: The Musical was very entertaining. My finace and I both enjoyed the music and the actors were excellent - charismatic and talented signers. Without having seen the entire moive we were still able to enjoy getting to know the characters and the plot. Our only complaint was the seats were not worth the money. Being a smaller theater, the dress circle was not as valuable of a seat as in other venues. We had to move to see over heads in front of us.
