The Roxy is an awesome venue to see a live show and Monday night November 8, 2010 with Street Sweeper Social Club and The Memorials was beyond was beyond amazing! The opening act Hollis really set the tone of the evening and primed party charged atmosphere for the headliners. The Memorials played a phenomenal set that displayed fantastic musicianship. Drummer Thomas Pridgen took a page from the Doors Jim Morrison and played with his back to the audience, but never the less his connection with the audience was definitely in full swing. Street Sweeper Social Club was defiantly the band that everyone came to see. Front man Boots Riley said at the onset, Street Sweeper Social Club is more than a band, were a mutha fuckin social club! The call and response Between SSSC and the audience confirmed that statement. From the opening number Getto Blaster to the encore cover of LL Cool J s Mama Said Knock You Out there was an overwhelming loud and condensed version of what will be witnessed at much larger venues. Audience participation in 100 Little Curses raised the roof off of the Roxy! The Roxy s intimately quaint quarters really allowed SSSC and concert goers to securely resonate an already secured connection. Fans in the front were really fortunate to have been awarded the opportunity to get excellent photos and video footage, but that was a small treat compared to being in position to witness the guitar wizardry of Tom Morello and the lyrical connection of boots Riley. This was truly a great show and my online ticket purchase though Ticketmasters was convenient and without indecent. Thank you Tom and Boots for being so graciously generous! To say that this show was amazing is an understatement. The combination of Tom Morello and Boots Riley is like finding a two magic potions that - when mixed together - generate hot, funky, rocking, riveting, moving, music. Both these guys are MASTER showmen and know how to work an audience. When the band started, they all wore these military-esque jackets (adorned with custom SSSC patches and graphics on the back) and aviator glasses (reminded me of Men in Black) which gave the audience the feeling that this was indeed a tight unit - on EVERY level. Evidently a LOT OF THOUGHT went into this act. Right down to the styling. Their backup band (undoubtedly hand picked by Morello ) is hot as hell, with a beat that just won't quit and backup vocals and secondary guitar parts that put the final touches on the picture. For a "newer" band, their live sound was VERY mature. There were so many points where the band was unleashed and the stage was a moving, writhing, musical tornado. Video just can't capture the vibe. You HAVE TO BE THERE TO SEE IT! It's like the difference between looking at a picture of the Grand Canyon and being there. One takes your breath away. One is, well, just a picture. The house sound for them was awesome as well. This project is really something to see live and should NOT be missed. The Memorials were terrific too. I'd love to see them in a headlining situation where the sound could be more well defined. As the opening act, the sound (I'm referring to the house sound) was not the greatest, and I believe that's because we were just getting what came off the stage. Great players though and terrific vibe. Like I said, I'd love to see them with proper sound.

My mind was "swept", pun intended! I muscled my way front row for this amazing show! I had to see upclose and first hand to find out what all the hub-bub was for Street Sweeper Social Club! Well, I found out! Great energy, and talk about getting the crowd going, none better! You don't even want to get me going about Tom Morello! To me he is a modern day Jimi Hendrix! What a force he is on stage. If you ever get the chance to see this band, I highly recommend it!

Are you kidding me??? I love the Roxy ...but why was SSSC playing this little club ... so lucky i got tickets! The stage was so small Tom Morello Knocked the wireless mic out of Bootsie's hand during one of the songs - Thank goodness for back up mics. Great hearing most of the new songs from the EP!!! The band was fantastic. A Must see. "Mama said what????" Great way to end the set guys!!!!
