Lissie

Lissie Maurus was raised in the riverside town of Rock Island, IL, and she drew upon those blue-collar Midwestern origins to create her own form of indie folk music. The granddaughter of an international barbershop quarter champion, she grew up singing in theater productions, eventually picking up the guitar and playing her own songs at local coffeeshops as a teenager. Lissie was also something of a rebel; she got thrown out of high school during her senior year, spent a brief period at Colorado State University, relocated to Paris for a semester, and eventually ditched college altogether to pursue her music career. Returning to the U.

Icehouse is a great venue (food, drink, ambiance, service, you name it) and Lissie did an amazing job. I have been waiting to see her perform live for a long time and she exceeded my expectations.

If you weren't there, well sorry, you missed something special. The evening started with the sweet sound of Chase Cohl, a Toronto native, transplanted to Laurel Canyon. Beautiful voice, thoughtful songs and a perfect balance to the powerful Lissie, who rocked out the crowd and the building. Was an amazing night of music!

Loved this venue, the Music Box. Well kept theatre/rock venue, very comfortable, with impeccable sound. The sound was particularly crucial, as it made clear the great voices of all the acts. Can't wait to see more shows here...

My wife said, "It was the best concert she's ever attended," and that made it extra special for me since we don't attend a lot of concerts together. She had never heard of Lissie two weeks earlier and now she has her CD blaring from her car stereo. The Music Box was perfect. So many places where we've attended concerts before we've had to stand and this takes much of the enjoyment out of the experience. The balcony seats were excellent. I highly recommend this venue!

Lissie really puts her heart into her performance which is why I went basically; to see her perform live with her amazing band and do the songs she currently has. To me her songs now are about "keeping it real", as she said that night (a life approach that comes from her mid western roots), especially in love but also in what it means in the struggle to be fully alive. Seeing her do them live with both charm and passion is wonderful. And her band kicks butt too! After all the songs, I realized she did so many oh, oh , oh's that it kinda blended some of them together but I know she will continue to grow and get better at her art. I feel that she has incredible good taste, she's obviously a very hard worker, and really, really loves what she does, so I look forward to seeing the good things that come next from her

First let me just say this concert was really cool beause George brought Lissie in on one of his songs, and Lissie brought the Pierces on during a couple of her numbers. I love it when artists collaborate! George Stanford was pretty good. I'm not a big fan of Americana, but he has a great voice and a rocking band. I'd never heard of The Pierces until this concert, and WOW, I was impressed! Something about those two sisters is just hypnotizing to watch. Two very old souls with sexy moves and a sexy sound. Their music meshes really well with Lissie's. Love that they're from Alabama. In concert, their songs have a sweet heavy beat, what I like to call the Southern Stomp! Haha. I got their EP...their songs were mixed a bit different. I think I like them better live...so cool and so worth it! Lastly, Lissie. She was just amazing. No, phenomenal. Such a cool lady. She's very laid back in her intros, and her songs are always changed up from the way they are on the cd. She's a singer who can actually sing every note and more live, AND play the guitar and rock out. When she finished her set, the crowd started shouting her name in rhythm. How cool is that? In fact, what could be cooler? Um...cooler was when she came back and broke out a Kid Cudi cover!!!!! I would definitely see Lissie and the Pierces in concert again.

Lissie was incredible and the whole show was just awesome, but The Music Box was WAYYYY to hot, it was as if they had the heat on. There was no reason for it to be that warm, and everyone was complaining about it so that took away what would have been a perfect show. Figure the temperature out!

What an amazing performance! Loved the opening performances by Chase Cohl and Tyler Lyle. Lissie was even better live. I didn't imagine it would be so good. I can't get enough of her voice and her personality. Shes just a lovely human being that sings from her soul. And someone got proposed to in the middle of one of her songs. This was my first Lissie concert but it won't be my last. Thank you so much Lissie for coming to boston. We love you!!

This is the 3rd time I have seen Lissie in the Twin Cities-love that she keeps coming back! The Fitzgerald Theater was a nice venue, although, I would have preferred not being in a seat. Most of Lissie's music is upbeat and she rocks out on stage, so to just sit quietly and watch was a let down. But, not her fault, so I am still giving the show 5 stars, she was amazing and her voice was fantastic and the band is great too. She engages with the audience and has such great energy. Love her!

I can't quite figure out how this singer/songwriter and her great band are not a really big deal - I would think her stuff would be all over the radio, etc. I feel lucky to have found her on Guitar Center Sessions, so I can continue to follow her career. Wow, the show was absolutely out of this world! I had very, very high expectations before going and was so excited to see her perform, especially at the Fitzgerald. When I learned that she would be performing at the Fitzgerald I didn't hesitate to buy tickets! The sound was like no other facility. Lissie and her band brought the house down. She completely rocks and being in the small, intimate setting was the best concert that I have ever been to. I went with my husband and he was in complete aw over the talent that we witnessed! Loved, loved, loved it!!! she brought the entire crowd to their feet and rocked the house. It lave me goose-bumps. She then went to the rear of the state and took a picture of everyone rocking! It was fantastic.

Lissie put out her best energy, I've seen her twice before. Unfortunately the St. Paul crowd held true to their stoic Minnesota selves and sat for the whole concert, with arms crossed and barely a toe tap. Embarrassing and I want to apologize to Lissie! There were a few of us who tried but just couldn't get the others to move.

I saw Lissie one year ago at a Cities 97 Thursday afternoon event, which was mediocre at best. That preview was a far cry from what her singing talent really is. She totally demonstrated what she's made of at this recent concert. The concert really was phenomenal. She displayed fabulous musicianship. I like her quirky arm motion and leg lift, but mostly her powerful voice and storytelling songs. Her songs and voice rocked the place. P.S. Gotta love the bass playing, vocal back-up, drummer!!! Skills man!!!!

I just discovered her a month ago. So I didn't know what to expect. I was in the mood for a concert. I traveled 2 hours from Portland, Maine to Boston, and had a great time. She interacts with the audience and it was just great. It is 4 days later and I'm still going over the concert in my mind. Plus, I then went to Amazon and bought everything I could of her music. Lissie didn't need a fancy stage to present her powerful and soulful voice and seriously talented band mates. She got the house rocking! Her voice ranged from mysterious and spiritual to full on rock and roll - so refreshing from today's manufactured voices. There's an old soul in there getting the message out. You rock Lissie!

Lissie was absolutely incredible. I honestly think she sounds even better in person than on recording, and she's an incredibly enthusiastic performer. She's one of the realest artists I've ever seen, and she's got a ton of spunk when she's up on stage. I saw her in Boston three nights before and knew that I had to see her again. And while her covers are great, her own music is absolutely amazing, and so fun to experience as a member of her audience. I can't wait until she tours the east coast again!

Lissie is very entertaining, just not easy to describe. Is she a teenybopper who just wants to have fun, or a soulful woman of the world. A little bit country or a whole lotta rock and roll. Signature tune, "In sleep" was unbelievably great. The hauntingly beautiful voice of LISSIE (Elisabeth Corrin Maurus originally from Rock Island, Illinois) electrifies every song with effective backing from the guys. The drummer puts the sticks down to play steel guitar or keyboards on a tune or two, while a band mate plays bass and drums at the same time. The lead guitarist is no slouch either.. See them now. Buy an album or a tee shirt at the show. You won't regret it.

This was my 3rd Lissie concert. It was by far the best. Lissie radiated a lot of energy and excitement. She's a pro at her craft. PS At one time, Lissie lamented on stage how winded she was, how she was drinking tons of water and showing more perspiration than the rest of the band - she even jokingly suggesting that she should start working out. I think this was because you gave 110% percent, Lissie. But if you are serious about working out, look into 'interval training' for the fastest results. (:

Incredible show. Lissie's voice is not to be fooled with. Her band mates are not to be trifled with. Not one note was misplaced or misused. It was sonic nirvana from a band that has obviously spent a lot of time together practicing and learning each others' mojo. Rock on dear Lissie. Rock on.

Lissie was even better live ! She owned the show. I read a review that mentioned she should've played nothing else matters rather than talk. But by doing that she related to everyone in the crowd. She played alot of her good hits, sound was good, and venue was okay. But the show was more like a little stop along the way, too short. The event was scheduled for 8-11pm, but ended at 10:15. Whole thing felt rushed. Especially not worth it if you're not from the city. Drove 4 hours total for a 1 hour headline. (Plus there were alot of rude and chatty fans)

Extraordinarily good performance with her new band. The new songs we're good overall; a couple of them were a bit soporific, but the good ones made up for it. As usual Lissie gives it everything and she leaves you smiling and fully satisfied. She came down into the audience and reminded us that she is humble and one of us. Her voice is unrivaled and she sings with a passion that reminds you that live talent is as much about passion and energy as it is about talent. The venue you was perfect for her. The backup group was very solid, though not as talented as her old team. Mixing and Lighting were first class.

In her music and her style, Lissie demonstrated both high energy and soul-searching that, in my opinion, sets her apart from most singers and songwriters. At first, she said nothing to the audience, and just played her songs. But after about four songs, she started talking and interacting so that she was very real to everyone. She even went into the crowd for several minutes and had many people dancing with her to an upbeat song. At another point, the band left the stage and she went back to her musical roots, using only her acoustic guitar to accompany her singing. Besides telling the story that inspired her to write "Daughters", she talked about her own journey to California and then back to the Midwest, making everything feel very personal. It was a great performance, and I am sure almost anyone would have enjoyed it.

The last time I saw Lissie was hot on the heels of her singing "Everywhere I Go" with Ellie Goulding at Great Escape in 2010. She was also killing it virally with her cover of Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness", and I was falling so hard in love with her. This time, more than 5 years later was so very different, but not at all disappointing. The majority of her songs were from her most recent album: My Wild West, but also got around to the staples: When I'm Alone, Why You Runnin, Mississippi, and In Sleep (which she killed in her first song after coming back for encore). She even had a dance/mosh moment in the middle of the crowd, and woke up the romantic and dreamy crowd. Much to my surprise and delight, she closed out one hell of a show with Pursuit of Happiness. I've loved her. I love her. I will always love her. And I'll go see her whenever, wherever again and again.... and again.

I've casually followed Lissie's career for the last 5 or 6 years, but had never seen her live before. I could not have been more blown away. Her voice is so much bigger, richer, and more complex than I think a recording can ever capture. It's like she's got a gospel choir sitting on her tonsils. Her energy is great and it was a really fun evening. Set list was mostly off of her current and first albums.

One of my favorite live acts. I catch all of her shows in the Boston area. Lissie is passionate about her music and she really seems to enjoy performing. She's become much more engaged with the audience and even came off the stage into the crowd for one number. A grear setlist, but I was surprised that weren't more songs from her new "My Wild West" album. It's a shame that Lissie remains a relative unknown as she has several radio friendly songs. On the plus side, her lack of mainstream coverage allows me to keep seeing her at smaller, more intimate venues.
