If you grew up listening to rock music in the late 1970s, it's a safe bet you knew who Southern Smoke was. This was a post-glam, high-energy rock show that included bright lights, pyrotechnics, fog and blues-driven rock and roll. The popular quintet included Keith Magil (vocals), Shawn Paddock (guitar), Pat Killeen (guitar), Kenny Heggelund (bass), and Al Rogers (drums). The band reformed with all original members and played to a near capacity crowd at House of Blues on Friday, July 27. The band ran through a blistering two-hour set which included all of their old favorites from more than 30 years ago. It's difficult to imagine but these guys have never sounded better. I'll be checking their website to see if a Southern Smoke Reunion 4 will be planned for next year. Great show.

Of course, love the chance for a get together--- southern smoke reunion. The band plays old favorites. Enjoyed seeing old friends. However, the sound was AWFUL. So loud that it hurt. I know talking is not likely with a lively rock band, but the sound was painful. Get rid of the sound man. Great venue -- awful sound. I've seen other bands inn the parish hall of HOB New Orleans, and they did not sound this bad.
