i actually thought Ariel Pink's was the opening act till i got there (duh!), so i kinda did expect a longer show, but that was my fault and the hour itself was well-enjoyed. webster hall's sound is always great and the live band accompanying Ariel gave his rather lo-fi-sounding CD tracks a new texture taking them to a new / fresh direction. in my opinion, all live performances should depart from the studio sound on the record and give us something specially memorable to take home from the encounter. the main act was a brazilian band called "Os Mutantes". since i didn't really care for them i left the venue immediately after APHG's set, so i can't comment on that. sorry. but, i have to add though, that by judging from the hearty / enthusiastic round of applause they gave APHG, if they weren't already fans they'd definitely become after that night, which is a good thing. the faster their popularity grows the sooner they get "main course" status. though for now i confess, the sold me at the appetizer!

i didn't realize Ariel Pink's was the opening act till i got there, so i expected the show to be longer than an hour. but, that's my fault. the show/playlist itself was excellent, concentrating, of course, on material from his latest 4AD release + some classics. the sound at Webster Hall is always superb, and the live sound took the rather lo-fi-sounding CD tracks to an alternate cleaner dimension making them sound fresh / different (an effect we should get from every concert really). the venue was jammed packed, mostly, and obviously, w/ sympathizers of the main act, the brazilian band "OS mUtantes", but, judging by the hearty, enthusiastic round of applause, they seemed to have loved APHG, and hopefully will get hooked on them after this show. i absolutely love Ariel's music so, i'd love the show no matter what. for me, they're the best show in town at the moment. since i didn't care for the main act and left right after APHG, i have no comments on it. sorry.

This show was awesome. They mostly played the new album, which made me like it even more! Just watching Ariel Pink's expressions by itself are entertaining. Add their funky music and theatrical flare, and you have an unforgettable show!

Standing room only...since there were no seats. Pretty great show. I enjoyed its loudness. Mr. Pink may have been drunk, but so was half the audience. I was sober.

The songs from Before Today sounded great. Little too much of the experimental old stuff...

Very lackluster...seems like they are studio musicians and do not know or want to engage an audience who spend $30 to go see them!!!

The venue was set up perfectly, not too crowded, and most importantly, the show was amazing. Ariel Pink throws a legit show.

Very Good Show as title indicates. Never heard Ariel Pink before, went to see Os Mutantes. Ended up liking Ariel Pink better - bit more of my style. Some songs sounded even better than on their studio record. Os Mutantes were great too. Real tight, great energy, nice jams (but not too long). Only down part was the first opening act with a woman playing bass along with some beats and samples. It was pretty bad. Her singing was way off on some parts. Although bass playing was in tune and on time the samples were too lo-fi to hear clearly through sound system. That with off pitch singing made it hard to hear what the heck she was trying to play. I will however give her credit for actually starting exactly on time (9:00PM) which no band/act ever does. Other than that, great show for the money.

Webster Hall, UGH...Diva, the opener, was the only artist that was able to use the abysmal soundsystem to her advantage. Where-as Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti and Os Mutantes sounded great, and I was excited to see them live...it just would have been better at a venue like Bowery Ballroom or Williamsburg Music Hall. Other than that, it was pretty smooth, had a great time.

Front Row and center Ariel Pink greeted the audience in rare fashion by yelling at the crowd and then exploding into song. The older couple next to me had no clue whom he was, and being they were at the show to see Os Mutantes, they didn't know what kind of music to expect. At the end of Ariel's set they were born again fans waiting to get an autograph from the man himself. We were slightly teased when he said "This will be our last song", but continued on a path of hits and ended with a bang. It would be wise of Webster Hall to have him headline with John Maus in the future.

Diva the first act was so dreadful! I think there was suppose to be another opener, but wow she was awful! Ariel Pink was after her. They had a good set, but so many sound problems! Os Mutantes luckily saved the show for me. The music was great, everyone was dancing, and they even did an encore which none of my friends expected! I was highly impressed by Os Mutantes and I am very sad they won't be touring anymore.

The opening act was dreadful. What exactly was this performer doing? Random noises on base with incongruent background trac and horrific off key vocals. It set a very negative tone for the rest of the evening. The sound on Ariel was pretty muddled and distorted. I can appreciate fuzzed out sounds but it got to be monotonous. By the time Os Mutantes came on, the psychedelic sounds were a bit too random and meandering. If Os came on first, I think me and my girl would have appreciated this more. We left early.
