Ziggy Marley

Ziggy Marley

A five-time Grammy-winning musician, actor, artist, activist and humanitarian, Ziggy Marley has established his presence on the public stage for over a quarter-century. Wild and Free (Tuff Gong Worldwide), his fourth solo album, may be Ziggy's most political and personal to date. The overall theme of the album is a powerful one, as it propels Marley to challenge social injustice along with the political weapons of ignorance and fear.  It was produced with friend and collaborator Don Was at Ocean Way Studios in Hollywood, CA as well as Marley's own studio.

I took my 15 yr. old daughter, and we had such a wonderful time! His new CD "Family Time" is made especially for kids, and for the whole family to enjoy! We did! I loved how he got all the kids involved with his show, and most of his attention on them "the kids". Such an uplifting fun vibe. It was so great that Ziggy even had his 2 little kids peforming the entire show...ADORBLE! Born with such natural talent....AMAZING! I definately recommend everyone to go see the show!!!! There was one part I was bummed out about.... when I looked up the venue online, it stated No Cameras Allowed in Club Nokia, so I didn't bring my camera. Let me tell you.....I think EVERYONE in the place had a camera....but me!

Absolutely incredible show. Really geared to kids (really), but very enjoyable for whole family. He even played some old Bob Marley tunes for the parents. Had all the adults sit down so kids could dance and see the show. Reminding everyone this was for the kids. Incredible venue as well at Nokia Theatre My son has the CD and LOVES to listen to it over and over again, remember Ziggy in concert (he is 4 years old).

Excellent show, however, it was very difficult and frastrating to sit on the floor with other parents and kids standing up whenver they wanted to. I would love to attend another show. But I will NOT go to a show unless there are assigned seats.

My wife and I took our 5 and 4 year old boys down to club nokia for Ziggy Marley's afternoon kids show. As has become clear with shows at club nokia the time on the ticket is almost always a door time, and not a show time. The ticket said 10:30, so we rolled in at 10:30 to find a large line of people waiting. Club Nokia did not open the doors till 10:45, kind of lame for a kids show. Club Nokia is not on the top of my list for venues. The show started with a drum circle run by a musician from the then to follow opening act. The drum circle was fun, they had drums for all the kids to use. The opening act was fun too, but i forgot their name. Ziggy Finally came on at 12:30. That was the only bummer of the day, with small children I would have showed up close to this time if the venue had been more forthcoming about the real schedule. But we all know they never are. Ziggy played most of the tunes on his new family album, intermixed with some of his dad's classic favorites. The venue was not very full and it was very intimate. Really glad we took the kids for this concert experience. The Grammy Museum kids programs are really excellent, and I recommend them.

I have two boys 18 months and 34 months and we were concerned how kid friendly this was going to be. When we entered the Nokia center, there were instruments for the kids to play with. We were all standing but an announcement was made to stay seated and let the kids stand. (thank you). After that we were able to sit and enjoy the music. There wasn't a bad place in the house and there was room for your kids to move around. If they got squirrly or had a tantrum there was an open back area inside and outside there was crafts for the kids to do. The best part was that parents could have a beer and relax to!!

This was a great first reggae show to take my nephew to. Ziggy played his family time children's songs and a few Bob songs. They had peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and Red Stripe beers, which was awesome! The venue was also really cool. Club Nokia is small so you can't get a bad seat.

This was my eight year olds first OFFICIAL CONCERT EXPEREINCE! I was estatic with the entire Grammy Museum Present's Concert concept. The interactive instruments, a small space to stand and move with the melodies was just perfect! The family theme was a great way for us all to come together and Ziggy's kids... simply amazing. I would definately support more events like this one. AND ANYTIME I GET TO STAND WITHIN FIVE FEET OF ZIGGY and dance to his live music, in total peace, is a blessing!

Eric Burdon is a Rock and Roll Icon, but in spite of this, I had my doubts that he would still be able to deliver a strong performance - after all, he's 72 years old. Well, my opinion is that he delivered big time. His backup group was excellent (especially his lead guitar player), and the new songs fit right in with the old ones and kept us all tapping our toes and dancing (when security let us). I first saw the Animals exactly 40 years ago this month and they were in thier prime and spectacular. Can't say this time around was as magic as that time, but it did NOT dissapoint!! Ziggy's set was also really great. His mix of his own tunes and his dad's was perfect, and his backup band was really together and got into some amazing groves that pretty much mezmerized the whole place. He's doing a great job of keeping his dad's vision alive.

I saw Ziggy at the Keswick Theater the other night and while it was a great show, it was way too short. This is the third or fourth time I've seen him and the theater was only filled to half capacity which I found shocking. Ziggy is a great artist and performer, but I'm thinking this was due to the fact that many people don't have the money to go see concerts these days. He came on at about 9:15 and was done by 10:53. Again, great show, but come on Ziggy, you could have played another song or two and went until 11:00. I had a great time, but was slightly disappointed at how brief the show was. I met his opening act, Leon Mobley before Ziggy came on and got a picture taken with this great, great man. Mr. Mobley is nothing but good, positive vibes and this really made my night. The crowd was a very cool bunch too, as expected. Definitely go see Ziggy, but I hope he goes at least two hours for you, as he normally does!

I've seen Ziggy many times and he always performs well and has a great band to back him up. This time was no exception. They played for a long time, covering lots of old Bob stuff and lots of new stuff too. I thought the sound system was a bit lacking in power, couldn't get the real good bass, but the sound guy had the levels right and the sound was good overall. The crowd was a bit mixed, a few kids, mostly people in their 30's, some older too, and everybody seemed to be having a good time. Ziggy and the band really get involved during their live performances and the energy really comes through.

Ziggy was fantastic. My friend and our daughters had the best time and really enjoyed the music. He is a great performer and has such a wonderful voice. One of the best concerts I have ever attended. As for the venue and how they handled tickets. The casino was so unorganized. They would not allow you to pick up will call tickets early but when you got to the concert there were about 6 people handing out tickets. The lines were packed and running back into the casino. They need a lesson on better organized distribution.

If you were sitting down during this event, you were a minority! Nearly everyone stood and danced the entire concert. To me, it appeared to be a sold-out event! Ziggy was fantastic, as usual. He is looking and sounding more and more like his father. He put on a great show with no breaks or interruptions. He played many of his father s (Bob) oldies along with his own releases. Ziggy was energetic, fun and entertaining. Definitely the best concert at the Orange County fair this year.

This was my first time seeing Ziggy Marley in concert, and the third time seeing a show at the beautiful Mandalay Bay Beach. The show started on time, even though my sister and I were still in line waiting to get our tickets at Will Call, which was absolutely crazy since Rhianna was performing at the Events Center at the same time. But when we got out there, the vibe was on and we got into the water right away and stood in it the whole time. And believe me, the water was appropriate because of the 100 degree temps, yes at 9:00 at night! But it's Vegas, and that's how it is. Ziggy did great, but didn't really interact with the crowd that much, he just went from one song to another which was fine, while everyone partied like it was a big beach party at night, as two beach balls bounced around in the air throughout the whole show (see second pic, LOL). But the crowd was into the show, and I was the whole time, until I saw cigarette butts floating in the water, which disgusted me, since the Mandalay Bay Beach has got to be one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in the world, it makes me mad that people can't be respectful and put out their cigarettes in appropriate places, instead of acting like the water was a big toilet. Weed smoking was the norm of course, and people boldly smoked it, LOL. I even saw people with weed stuck behind their ears like it was just a cigarette! But I had fun of course, because I love reggae music and the strong messages and vibes in the music, and Ziggy did not disappoint with that!

Ziggy was fantastic. My 10 year old and I had a wonderful time. I wasnt sure if he was going to be 'too cool' to dance........but he wasnt! You would have had to really try NOT to dance! As far as the venue goes, I dont think they were expecting that the crowd would want mixed drinks (10 am concert), but there were a few of us that would have liked a drink.....there was only one bartender and the line was outrageous. The House of Blues would have made more money if they would have been better prepared.

Lots of different acts, not so much a rag-a-muffin fan. Sizzla was a bit much and VERY difficult to understand. Very family friendly; was great to see kids running around and having fun. Ziggy came on (again...) near 10:00; kids tried HARD to see their favorite. Good set list. I love that there is old school Melody Makers included as well. It was disheartening to see that Ziggy was playing to about 300 people as he opened his encore but it was late on top of a very long day in the sun. Will still see him again next year; great energy!

This is my third time going to this festival and it never disappoints me. Capelton and Sizzla really rocked the stage. The overall vibe is just love. I was surprised to see that so many people brought their small children. I'm not sure why because it was extremely loud with the outdoor speakers and outdoor artist and not to mention the amount of weed that was being smoked. Another thing that surprised me was the amount of people that decided to leave when Ziggy performed. I am still questioning this one. He did an awesome performance and had a great message.

If you haven't seen Ziggy Marly before, you are missing out on a great performer (and band / dancers). This is the 2nd show we've seen on this tour alone (went to the Cape Cod Melody tent on father's day) and it was very different than the last show. Played a lot of older hits from Conscious Party (Conscious Party, Tomorrow People) and One Bright Day (Justice, Looks Who's Dancing - a staple) in addition to hits from his solo albums and from his dad. No matter what he plays we are always satisfied despite always wanting to hear more (both solo and Melody Makers hits as well as Bob Marley favorites). The only complaint I have is I called the venue ahead of time who said Ziggy would go on at 8:45 and he didn't take the stage until 9:30. Fortunately, he still played for 2 hours with just a brief break before encore set. If we knew we had that much time to wait, we would have explored the venue more than trying to jockey for position so early in front of the stage without a drink. The night stated off great with a bite to eat at "Jamaica Mi Hungry" next to the ballroom entrance. Jerk chicken to die for.

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect going to this concert. My husband LOVES reggae and for the last 7 years, and I actually have several reggae artists that I love, but I would never say reggae was my favorite type of music. For our anniversary, I thought I'd take him to see Ziggy Marley. I knew we'd have a good time, but I wasn't expecting anything earth shattering. Wow, I was so wrong! When he jumped on stage, and started singing right away, I knew it was going to be amazing! The entire 2 hour set he played, everyone was on their feet and dancing. Absolutely NO ONE in the entire theater stayed in their seats and it became more like a dance hall than a concert. Ziggy's band was phenomenal - especially his lead guitarist, and a man playing djembe. His back up singers had some great voices, and great moves, and at several points, performed some African dance moves as well. And Ziggy? Ziggy was phenomenal! He was completely into every song he sang, he danced a lot throughout the breaks in the song, and swung his dreads in true reggae fashion. Not only did he do his phenomenal songs, but he also covered 6 of his father's songs, including, "Is This Love?" and "One Love." I couldn't believe how much he looked and sounded like his father, and there were several moments when I could have sworn it was Bob Marley on the stage. He sang with such conviction and passion, that it sounded like the first time he was playing his songs for anyone. The energy throughout this entire concert was electric and as we exited, all I heard around me was "Wow\u2026" and "That was incredible." It was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience that my husband and I will never forget. We drove 3 hours to see this concert, and I'm so glad we did. We would happily drive another few hours to see him, and I am already excited to plan another trip to see Ziggy Marley again.

This was a great show in a great venue! Lighting was excellent, sound quality was awesome! The crowd was fun and Ziggy got us all going with his energy! The girls dancing on the stage were amazing! I don't know how they do it! They danced every song non stop! There is not a bad seat in this venue. I'd sit anywhere!

I was too young to see Bob Marley perform but have watched every last movie/documentary and live video I could get my hands on. I knew that Ziggy's show would be awesome simply because he is his father's son, he stands for and believes in the things his father also embraced years ago but mainly because they are so much alike in their performance style compared to the rest of the Marley boys. I was not prepared for Ziggy being so much like his father from the way he strode out on stage with an air of complete confidence yet vulnerability to the way the lyrics stormed from his heart with eyes closed as if in prayer! I've seen videos of Bob literally being possessed by the spirit in his music and Ziggy gave me goose bumps as I watched him channel his father's charisma and sincerity into his own lyrics and beats. I waited in line for over an hour and stood in front of the stage for over two hours to see a genuine legend in his own right! I would do it over and over again! It was the best show I have ever been to in my whole 30 years of witnessing live music. The venue was the perfect spot for a personal and very intimate expression of this man s true calling. That it happened to be his 46th birthday made it all the more special! I will never forget Variety Playhouse and Ziggy Marley for the rest of my days on this Earth!

I have seen a number of reggae artists and I've been to several festivals, but this was my first time seeing Ziggy. I thought he was the top of the line, I was pulled in from the beginning of his set.

Ziggy seemed to be in a great mood and the show reflected it - EVERY Ziggy show I've been to has always been great but it just seemed better this time around. They always sound amazing - he plays a great mix of old and new and his fathers songs as well. If you like Bob Marley at all - you will LOVE Ziggy Marley, he is his own man and musician BUT he embodies his father when he he is singing a Bob tune = AWESOME. He is an uplifting musician and human being. I can't recommend enough you need to see a Ziggy Marley show whenever or wherever you are - just go.

This was my 4th Ziggy Marley concert and I was electrified like always. He brings sounds and rhythm to the stage that get the whole audience up and dancing from the first chord to the last. At Pacific Amphitheater there is plenty of leg room between each row to get up and dance and everyone around me was doing just that. Traffic was heavy because of the OC Fair so leave plenty of time to park and walk.

An amazing set of both new and classic material! Ziggy also mixed in some of his father's music (along with his own classic material). He kept the crowd moving, grooving, and feeling the love!!

Ziggy and his gang put on a great show! His daughter , Judea brought the house down with her number with Dad. Newport is pretty good venue to see shows, security gets a little too pushy which can spoil the cool vibes Ziggy offers the crowd. Fly Rasta

Ziggy! I love you. Something seemed to be missing this year. You hardly opened your eyes the whole show. I was near the front and watching you, I felt like you didnt want to be with us or you were imagining you were somewhere else. I can tell the crowd was much different from years before. A friend of mine joked when I sent a picture that he "could actually see the stage"- meaning all the smoke was not there this year.... Maybe that's what was different. Im still happy I went and Newport is a great place to see you.

Went to a reggae festival earlier this Summer in Providence that killed this on and cost a little less. Less known -- but still well recognized performers and a full day of it. This event started an hour late, only Ziggy performed w/ his band --and it was over and done in 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Little energy, no dialogue with audience ---. The crowd was quite small -- so perhaps he was discouraged by that. At any point -- I paid for 4 tickets and was very disappointed.

Sound was great. Band was great. Set list seemed to include lots of new songs and well as more of his father's songs than usual which was fine. Not a lot of energy from Ziggy. He goes through the motions and plays for 90 minutes (no more, no less). Seen many of his shows. Ziggy needs to be more present and connect with his audience.

I purchased these tickets to see Steel Pulse and they were GREAT. All the great songs that I love and great people sitting next to us. But have to say that I was surprised by Ziggy's performance. It was great and as an added bonus.

I have nothing bad to say about the concert. Ziggy was amazing, steel pulse was amazing, Missed The Skimping Project, but I'm sure they were great too. Every time Ziggy played one of his dad's songs it was like seeing Bob Marley on stage. Super cool experience! A+ performance!

Great concert! I haven't seen Ziggy & Steel Pulse in a long time and it was great to see they are even better now after 20 years. The only issues that occurred was that it was a bit short. I guess I'm used to longer shows and the OC fair shows tend to be a little shorter. I also noticed there were some uneasy patrons that felt there needed to be an inside area to smoke away from the regular pathway but not in the parking lot.
