Went to this show a couple years ago and took a friend to see it for his first time. We had a blast! The tunes are catchy and there's both an eye for detail (ex: The Hills Have Eyes poster in the cellar) and poke fun at themselves while being overall entertaining. The cast was real exuberant and have a lot of heart, which felt like a genuine love letter to the original movies. Definitely going again next year and will try roping a couple more friends into coming along!

My cheeks hurt from laughing by intermission. Loved it from beginning to end and I wasn't even familiar with the movies. Excellent adult fun and humor! Fabulous venue and the actors were spectacular! Huge fan of theater and this was a riot!

So, I have been a Deadite from back in the 80s, and have been a huge fan of the series, the spin-offs and the new TV show. I had been aware of the Musical hitting Toronto some time in the early 2000s, but recently moved back to Detroit and was thrilled to hear it was playing. I heard there was a lot of blood, but was oblivious to the "Splash Zone" before we got there. There were tons of references to the original movies, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and some of the famous lines from the series. Incredibly, they stayed pretty true to the movie, despite a really fun and lively interchange between the audience and the actors: no fourth wall here!

I would definately recommend this. It was very funny and very well put together. My only complaint was the lady in front of us who thought it was funny to yell wooooo!!! all the time and try to talk to the people on stage while they were trying to do the show, though this is no fault of the presenters.

I wasn't sure how the musical was going to be, but it was a blast! I recommend this to anyone that needs a fun night out. I would see it anytime of year, not just around Halloween.

I'm a middle age horror film junkie.....Great spoof in a already C movie....Alot of laughs and fun.... Once an awhile the cast sang off key, but when something is live that would be expected. If you like halloween, Rockiy Horror, comedy....go see it

This was great! Not only was this a great conversation starter amongst friends in the week prior but it was a great performance all around. Being a fan of the Evil Dead Trilogy, I loved this, though I think this would be fairly enjoyable to anyone who hasn't seen any of them. There were a few references to things Bruce Campbell related which it seems like most of the crowd got and there were other funny tie ins throughout. For someone who has seen the Evil Dead trilogy a few different times, I thought this was a nice change of pace and an out-of-the-box approach to performing live a relatively gore filled movie. The splatter zone also added a fun element to an otherwise typical performance. Telling a date to wear something she is comfortable getting fake blood on is another fun aspect of the night that I rarely get to say. With Theater Bizarre having moved to the Fillmore, you're not even out of your element walking around outside covered in fake blood. There were a few slip ups with props and such, which happens with many (almost all) live performances, but the cast handled it well and this was nothing to hold against them.

While fans of the all the evil dead series, we were not sure how it would be as a musical. Well, it was great as our stomach hurt from laughing so much. Highly recommend it for the campiness and over the top drama. Note - not for under 17, very strong language.

Being a longtime fan of the Evil Dead series, I was very intrigued by a musical production of this popular story. I managed to talk a few people into going, some who knew about the Bruce Campbell movies and other (like my girlfriend) who had never even heard of it. I can tell you that after watching this live show, the only benefit to watching the movies is being able to recognize some of the quotes (Baby, you got real ugly and Shop smart, shop S-Mart). There was a splatter section which I very much recommended sitting in as it will help the experience to make you feel like the show is strictly being shown for you. The blood? the unneccesary amounts of gallons of blood are very neccessary for the off-the-wall humor. And the seating at the City theatre will make for a good show no matter where your sitting. They played this show the only way it could be played. Don't take it seriously, poke fun at yourself and how cheesey everything is, just like the movie did. This show was well worth seeing and I actually wouldn't mind seeing it again. Very entertaining, coming from a longtime fan and as for the new comers, they enjoyed it a lot more than I did. The show has a song and dance number with demon zombies and a talking moosehead. If that doesn't sell you go to see it then maybe the chainsaw fight scenes will.

Overall hysterical. The acting is surprisingly good (with some characters getting a little TOO into their roles). The voices will surprise you with their ability. The only downside is that it is somewhat low-budget, and most of the blood-splatter ends up coming out of ketchup bottles.

The Musical itself was great! We give a bigs double thumbs up to all the actors etc.. The only thing we were really bummed about was for being in the 2nd row on the end in the so called "Splatter Zone" we DID NOT get splattered... Very disappointed with that part!! We paid extra for splatter zone tickets and left un-splattered. I suggest if seeing this Musical and you want to get splattered be seated near the left center FRONT area of the stage. If you are not setting in around that area you don't get much action on the blood it seemed. T-shirts were 25.00 for plain white Evil dead musical shirts (nothing fancy, more for splatter zone section).. Ponchos are kinda pointless especially if you are not setting right in front (unless you are weird and decided to set in splatter zone but didn't want to be splattered and you wana make sure you don't get splattered???) If you go just for the musical fun it was AWESOME!!!

Evil Dead the Musical is everything I wanted it to be and everything I could never even imagine. It was hilarious and had so many updated pop culture references to make it more current to today. It was fast moving, upbeat, and played on all the original characters major facets. It called out inaccuracies in the original movies which made it even more hilarious. I will be back to see this again.

We went October 24th, and it was absolutely hilarious and over the top campy. I loved the show from beginning to end. I do recommend getting there at least an hour early if you want to get into the splash zone. We arrived at 7:00 and we ended up in the fourth row "splash zone". We didn't get nearly as bloody as the first two rows. It was a great time and the actors were all awesome. My boyfriend and I will be returning next year.

My wife and I went with some friends and it was a great time. It's a hilarious show and has some fairly catchy tunes. If you're a fan of the original films you will enjoy the many references as well. My wife still thought the musical was great despite her not enjoying the films. Plus you have a MOTHER F**KING SPLATTER ZONE! It's quite possibly the best way that the musical can stick close to the spirit of the source material. My only regret was that I was too far back in the splatter zone and didn't end up getting hit with any blood.

Had a great time. Better than expected. I don't normally laugh out loud at things, but this show had me laughing more times than I could count. The swearing and sexual innuendos didn't bother me a bit, but if you are thin skinned you may want to pass. The seats were general admission. We sat in the blood zone. We managed to stay dry but I didn't really care to get blood on me as much as my cousin did. I wouldn't have a problem going again next year.

This show was amazing. Nothing what I was expecting. It was funny and original. Im not big on musicals but the songs were funny and entertaining and i found myself still singing them after i left. I was hoping to be covered in blood which is the only thing i was disappointed about. I sat within thr first 3 rows and was hiding under my poncho everytime i thought i was going to be sprayed but it never happened til the end end. Overall great show, great experience, more blood and I cant wait for them to return! Defintely worth checking out.

This is the third time I've seen this show twice when it was out originally off-Broadway and this lived up to the original cast! The one thing that I noticed, and my husband noticed as well, is that the music was slightly less peppy (I have the CD and have listened to it over and over and over).. It did not take away from the experience, just something I noticed. Nice updates to some of the cultural references. I was originally scheduled for the Friday night show and would have had better seats. Being on the far right stage part of the theater and speakers blocked some of the action. Also, I was in the splatter zone and wish there had been a way to buy souvenirs on the way out of the theater, but since we were herded out of the side door, this was not possible.

We loved the show. But if you are a Broadway snob this is not the show for you. The songs are funny and the cast was hysterical. But there is a fair amount of sexual references (overt) and cursing. The production was very enjoyable. Cast was great, my only critique is that the guy that played Ash was kind of low when he sang, it was hard to hear him sometimes over the music. The show was amazing! The performers did a great job and gave it their all. Really enjoyed the little touches throughout the show as the backdrops changed to add Freddy's claw during the 2nd half and the book the younger sister was reading was also a funny reference. True to the story and the show. Hilarious. A lot of thought was put into it. Front row seats were worthwhile. Splatter zone was a lot of fun, definitely dress for the occasion (though everything washed out!).

This is our 3rd. year going. We always enjoy the silly songs, and the campy acting. The actors did a wonderful job bringing this film to life on the stage. We took our 14, and 16 yr. Me and my daughter had dinner at Hockey Town cafe and over dinner she kept anticipating how the show would turn out. We live a distance away, had just spen over 600.00 the day before with Jeep troubles, but was determined to make it and the weather was wet and rainy on top of that. It was well worth it! She enjoyed seeing Stomp but said once is enough, Evil Dead she said she can go to see again and again. We have the entire seried on DVD and she loved how they blended parts 1 and 2. She had an aisle seat and loved when the actors came near her. We were ponchoed up but didn't get any splatter, but she still enjoyed it. Only downside was she wanted a T-Shirt they had them but there was just a splatter of blood on a white shirt with no name. She passed because she said someone might think it was representing The Walking Dead or something. It was a very fun night.

Adult comedy. Return audience member participation, similar to Rocky Horror. Songs and lines are tongue in cheek. Audience is squirted with fake blood, but those seats are the first to go. Overall loved it. My wife, who hates me for taking her to "I am Bruce" and has not seen the Evil Dead films, was prepared to hate it and really enjoyed herself. 2 qualms with the show. First, the performance by Ash's little sister left much to be desired. Didn't really have any musical chops but she still brought good energy. Second, due to piped music and unmiked performers you will miss many lyrics when actors are turned to the other side of the theater - get there early to get middle seats if you can. Have fun!

The show was great-absolutely hilarious. Not a bad seat at Parker Playhouse. Next time I will sit in the splatter zone.

I gotta say I was really happy and surprised to find that this show was so good in so many ways. For the Evil Dead series fan it was a wet dream come true with so many of the great scenes and zingers from the movies. The cast was awesome and Ash could not have been more spot on. The songs and the dancing were great... much better than I expected, and the blood and gore were fun! Probably the most fun I've ever had at the theater. I totally recommend this for anyone looking for a fun night at the theater. You will not be disappointed.

Being a fan of Halloween Horror Nights, this was an event we wanted to attend. It was funny and enjoyable but I understand that if we had seen the movie, it would have been even more hysterical and I would have been more inclined to give it 5 stars. But it was worth every penny. I would highly recommend it and if you had 4 1/2 stars that would have been my rating.

I wasn't sure what to expect. My husband is the one that wanted to go. I didn't realize how small City Theatre was. The show itself was pretty close to what I expected. The performers did a great job, and it was a fun production. I would recommend it to anyone that is in to the gory, over the top Halloween stuff.

As someone who grew up on Evil Dead, I had high expectations for this play and they met every one. They ingeniously retold the story, adapting it for the stage. The gags and song numbers were a combination of inside jokes and iconic moments that resonated to the days i used to watch the movies on VHS. It really has to be seen to be appreciated. If you are a fan of Evil Dead, I guarantee you will love this play.

I am a person who usually likes intelligent, sophisticated, well acted, stage plays. Evil Dead the Musical was so Unintelligent that I think I lost 50 IQ points, it was as sophisticated as a sofa filled with Whoopee cushions, and it had the most over the top acting I think I have ever seen. But the truth is I liked it. This was a fun show. If you see it be advised it is an ADULT show. This is due to the language, they use the F word a lot, and the (very fake) bloody violence. Also be aware that if you sit in the first 4 rows you will probably be sprayed with fake blood. It is very messy, but they told us that it does wash out. There are a lot of references to the movies, and these generate some of the best laughs, but you don't have to have seen them to have a good time. I laughed from the start to the finish. The only reason I couldn't give the show 5 stars was because there were problems with the sound. Some of the songs sounded a little garbled. This was disappointing because The Embassy is one of Americas best theaters, and this is the first show I have seen there with technical difficulties.

I'm a huge fan of the source materials and took someone who had never even heard of "Evil Dead" and we both loved the show. Great pacing, funny songs and bits, but beware the splash zone!!!! One slightly negative comment would be the bars by the theater needed extra staffing, and the venue could do a better job organizing people before the show.
