Daddy Yankee
Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Daddy Yankee, née Raymond Ayala, is credited with introducing reggaeton to US audiences with the international success of his 2004 album Barrio Fino. Originally popularized in Puerto Rico in the ‘90s, reggaeton combines elements of Jamaican dancehall, salsa, and rap, the resulting combination being encapsulated perfectly on Ayala’s Latin Grammy-nominated 2004 hit “Gasolina.” In 2013, Ayala released his 7th studio album King Daddy as a digital only-album, reaching the No. 1 position on iTunes on the release’s first day.
