Cudo's to Mr. Fagen for finding the talent these guys have, and displayed Thursday night. Very impressed. Truly was optimistic about the new band- went to see Donald without hesitation and was blown away by the performance of every one on stage. Wow!

Donald put on an absolutely wonderful show. He seemed to really enjoy himself and joked with the crowd. Reviewer Images: (click to see full-size image) Close Was this review helpful to you? These 3 guys have such a broad and exciting repetoire of music yet they chose to sing someone else's songs for much of the evening devoting 2 songs to their back up singers. I didn't pay to hear the back up singers. I recently attended a concert of Boz Scaggs and it was amazing - I was totally disappointed in this performance. I have seen Fagan in concert before and it was amazing. Not this one. I don't care about hearing them sing music from "The Band'. I want to hear them sing their songs. When they did sing their own music, the crowd went wild. When they sang songs that others were not as familiar with, the crowd was lukewarm. I would not recommend this concert to anyone as I think it undermines the quality of the performers.

Other than singing a few of their hit "oldies", the concert was pretty boring. The audience was begging them to sing the songs we know and they played a bunch of stuff no one could identify them with. It was a huge disappointment.

Boz Slow Dancer, Michael What a Fool Believes and Steely Fagen Reelin in the Years what could be better. If I only heard those three songs it would still have been fantastic.

While it is often great to see old friends, you want a chance to reminisce. There were a few moments like "Takin It to the Streets", "Reelin' in the Years", and "Lowdown" that were great, but unfortunately these were the exception and not the rule. I didn't come to hear them do to their own personal tribute to The Band (3 different songs) or to sing "Help Me Rhonda" (their encore #). The 2 backup singers were excellent and I would've rather heard them sing other people's music than the "Dukes of September". There were so many hits that any of these 3 could have sang but didn't. All in all nice show, but it had a lot more potential that was never realized.

Overall we were disappointed in the concert along with several people around us. We heard AFTER we bought our tickets that they were going to be doing some of their favorite songs from other recording artists which was disappointing. I've been a musician for 30 years and I wasn't familiar with many of the songs that they performed. When they did one of their own recordings the crowd went wild. " Lowdown" from Boz Skaggs, "Reeling in the Years" from Donald Fagan and "Taking It to the Streets " by Michael McDonald got the biggest applause. They ended the night with "help me Rhonda" by The Beach Boys -- not a big Beach boys fan.

Had the best time at this concert last night (Atlanta, 8/26). High energy, incredible band and back-up singers! I thought their song choices were great, their "chops" are still impressive, and they were all about having a good time. That means I did too!

OMG! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the concert. It was nice that there was a mix of oldies and types of music. The girl singers were incredible! Michael, Donald and Boz still have wonderful voices and talent, and the whole band was tight. Wonderful experience! You could tell they put a lot of work and practice into this production!

Who would've thought that Fagan and Scaggs could duo on a Beach Boys tune and sound amazing? These 3 are the KINGS of COOL!!! Boz Scaggs was my 1st 8 track cassette, I've been loving Fagan forever, and EVERY McDonald song is on my IPOD. Fagan's music is complicated to play and my husband (a guitarist) agress that they did a WONDERFUL job!!! Boz is a cool as ever, and Michael is still a hunk of soul love!!!

I've seen Micheal McDonald many times as well as Donald Fagen. Had not seen Boz Scaggs. Was not disappointed and he seemed to be a crowd favorite. I enjoyed the variety of music and the pace of the show. The horn section was amazing as well as the rest of the musicians. With that said, the concert lasted 1.5 hours. Could have easily listened to another hour of favorites from each of the artists. But I guess that's a good thing; leave the crowd wanting more. All in all a great evening!

The show was flat and there was little symbiosis. Surprisingly Boz Scaggs put on the best performance. Michael McDonald still has a great and unique voice. Donald Fagen showed very little of his old self. People came to hear them sing their old songs which they did little of. Help me Rhonda for an encore???

Very enjoyable, a real treat to see and hear these three play together. My only regret is that the show was not long enough (2 hours) to do justice to the song library available to these three great artists. A few songs were a bit obscure for the audience (Love TKO and Greatful Dead), but on the other hand the Ray Charles and Areatha Franklin tunes were killer. If you are even thinking about it, you got to go.

All the musicians were very good, but I was disappointed Boz Scaggs didn't play more of his hits. Played too many unrecognizable songs and had their back up girl singers singing solos - what's up with that? Didn't pay to hear the back up girls sing!

Some awesome, original music heard by these artists, especially Michael McDonald, but should have been clued in by the "revue" part of the title. I guess after successful careers they have the right to just play the music they love, but we were disappointed not to hear more of the Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs that we loved.

With the 3 musicians involved, this show had the potential to be great. Sadly, it wasn't so great. Kept waiting for them to play more of their big hits, but that didn't happen. Played a FEW, but not many. Played a lot of things that weren't theirs. For their encore, at which time it would have been a perfect opportunity to play some of their best tunes, they broke out into "Help Me Rhonda." These are 3 fantastic musicians with multiple mega-hits attributable to them ... but the set-list was disappointing. Sorry guys ... not my cup of tea.

The "Dukes of September Rhythm Revue," featuring Donald Fagan, Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald, was an opportunity to see three musicians perhaps known for other types of music performing their favorite R & B from the 50's and 60's. All three were in top form and who knew Donald Fagan was such an exciting boogie woogie pianist? This was no "Steely Dan" or "Doobie Brothers" performance. The bulk of the setlist was tunes chosen by the guys because THEY loved the tunes. The backup band was tight and kept things moving, and the casual atmosphere (Don primarily played piano and introduced each tune like he was in a night club) was loose and fun. Things slowed a bit with a 3-tune section of songs from "The Band" but otherwise, it was a rollicking evening. Could have lived without "What a Fool Believes," but the rest of the crowd surely loved it.

Disappointed in the set list....average age 40 -55. 2 Steely tunes.....2-3 Boz tunes Are you kidding me???? Went w 2 other couples saying the same thing..Way too many cover tunes played. McDonald was very good. But one song off Silk Degrees...one song off Prezel Logic.......y'all need to fix this or the Dukes will have thinner and thinner crowds...we want to hear more off the albums guys...

I've been to every local Steely Dan show since Donald realized, during the New York Rock & Soul Review concerts, that Steely Dan's music, was still relevant! The fan base is still there. That said, these young, hip, crack musicians, backing the genius Fagen, knocked it out of the park, at the Rocksino. Nuff Said!

I was afraid that Donald Fagen was going to show his age. NOT! He was wonderful. The very young men surrounding him were equally impressive. Connor Kennedy (guitar) is only 22 and has a promising career in front of him. Lee Falco was fabulous with the classic Steely Dan rhythms. I would see the same show tomorrow if I could.

Not the "Steely Dan" concert I had hoped for. Did not play many of my favorites. Fagan is a wonderful and gifted singer who seems to have lost his voice. He couldn't finish the last few words from time to time. Instruments and band was excellent; perhaps drowning out the vocals by design? Along with about 10% of the audience, I didn't stay for the encore.

Fagan's voice was always raspy and that quality is what makes the 'characters' that come through in his lyrics so tangible to the listener. He surrounds himself with talented musicians and they work hard to maintain the standard that his music sets. Every one of them was a good singer. The guitarist was impressive but the drummer was amazing in his energy, keeping everything and everyone moving through the numbers we have loved so long. I have listened to Fagan's music for decades and never tired of it. The band gave faithful renditions of all of the hits from Steely Dan and solo albums and added some new twists that Fagan and they have evolved together, plus a couple of covers. From start to finish it was a joy ride. The one thing I would change was that the sound by the end was getting 'muddy' and loud. But up until the last songs, it was terrific.

Excellent show, great venue & great sound & lights. Really enjoyed the evening. Always been a Steely Dan fan. Played a nice mix of Fagen solo & Steely Dan tunes( It's all Fagen or Fagen & Becker anyway no matter what you call it). Even did a Chuck Berry tune and Shakedown Street.. Encore was Reel'in In The Years. Band was smok'in. Looked like young cats playing with the master. Bass,Drums, Keys, Guitar & Guitar doubling on Sax. 5 players total & Fagen. Conner the guitar player sang Dirty Work & everybody sang harmony. Sometimes 2 sometimes 3 sometimes 4 part. Generally an older audience but there were some twenty & thirties. My wife & I enjoyed it very much. Thank you Mr Fagen & MPAC.

Saw the Atlanta show the other night. The band was predictably tight. Connor Kennedy is the featured player, and deservedly so. He sings Dirty Work ostensibly as a tribute to David Palmer's original, but the placement in mid-set makes you think it's to give Donald a rest. The other guys must be acknowledged too. They are outstanding musicians. All sing and play. I missed the expected horn section and backup singers who have traditionally fleshed out Donald's sometimes wanting live vocals. (No, we don't care that he's not as accurate as in the studio.) In all, it is an austere tour. No video, no teleprompters (Donald uses notebooks at the electric piano and on a stand when he leaves the piano). Not even in-ear monitors, opting instead for physical monitors on stage. All of which might--mistakenly--make you think "jazz." But it is not a jazz show. It's a predominantly rock show. Sadly, the mix was muddy, dominated by an overwhelming, indistinct bass. The room, Symphony Hall, was not to blame. I don't think the bass was part of the small PA mix. They'll adjust. Still, it was Donald, and I'd go again.

Unfortunately, the sound engineering was completely lacking. Perhaps Donald Fagen should only entertain in outdoor venues. Have seen him many times and never been disappointed in sound technology. What a travesty to be unable to understand anything he said while introducing the next number. Not to mention lyrics. Although I already knew every lyric, it would've still been nice to hear them. I left the show feeling sad. As opposed to feeling exhilarated, as was my expectation based on the many times I've seen him perform in the past. Sorry to be negative, but this is my honest review.

First, let me just express my appreciation for Donald Fagen and his continued ability to excite a crowd and keep its interest going. Dude is not young any more but his energy level is that of a 20 year old, near the age of most of his new band the NightFlyers. The Atlanta Symphony Hall's acoustics or the sound system led to multiple moments of inability to discern individual words spoken or sung by the performers. This didn't detract this night as it might otherwise since we all seemed to know every word to every song.

Donald Fagen & The Nightflyers at Cincinnati's Taft Theatre was an hour & 45 minutes of toe-tappin' Steely Dan bliss! Many Dan tunes and Fagen solo numbers, and really fine Grateful Dead and Chuck Berry covers. The band was outstanding (especially drummer Lee Falco & guitarist Connor Kennedy), the arrangements were tighter than Falco's snare, the sound & lighting were perfect, and the crowd was seriously into the music! A songwriter of Fagen's extremely high caliber and catalog could have played for another couple hours without wearing out this roomful of fans, and there are always tunes you walk away wishing they'd played (The Boston Rag & My Old School, for me, to name just two), but it was a most satisfying evening of brilliant performances. See the setlist. What's not to love?

I'm a long time HUGE Fagen/Steely Dan fan. This may have been the best show I've ever seen him do. These young cats in the band have really brought new energy to the old guy. He absolutely killed it, as did the band. Connor Kennedy on guitar was the perfect combo of chops and soul. Unlike a bunch of other guys I've seen with the Dan of Steel, who are all impeccable players,he had kind of a beautiful , soulful messiness to his playing that added some new life to the old tunes. Absolutely amazing to watch. And the opener, Adron, was captivating! Go see this show.

I am a HUUUGE Steely Dan fan, so I was slightly reluctant to check this out, but this show knocked my socks off!! The band's members are so young, but they were fantastic. They did not disappoint! They played enough Steely Dan tunes to keep the die-hards satisfied. It's amazing that after 40 years, Donald Fagen still plays with the such intensity and passion - a truly incredible artist! 95% of the audience were middle-aged and older, but I took my 15 year-old son and he had a great time as well. The venue was small and intimate (Atlanta Symphony Hall), which made for a truly amazing sound, but it was NOT COOL that no dancing was allowed so as to not obstruct the view for the people behind you. I am Latina, so for me not to dance...ay!

Friday night with Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor at Fenway Park was fabulous. But then Donald Fagen Monday night in Montgomery was incredible. They played and played until we were totally worn out from the experience. Possibly one of the best concerts ever. They went through the catalog of songs, each replicating the original perfectly. This is a must see concert this year.

Donald Fagen appeared to be enjoying himself as he performed material from his solo albums, Steely Dan classics and even covering songs by the Grateful Dead and the Rolling Stones. His body of work is so large that there was songs that were left out, but that's to be expected. Almost all of the solo material was from his first album and he played one cut from his latest. I would have liked to hear some from his other two. A lot of the Steely Dan stuff was from Aja, but he sampled earlier songs as well, although nothing past Gaucho, as far as I remember. His band was tight and the mix was almost perfect, especially by the third number. The only downside was that the venue was not sold out, so they moved us from our balcony seats which had a great view to the orchestra downstairs which was actually farther away and they closed off most of the balcony. Considering the price of these tickets, this concert was an amazing value and definitely worth TWICE the price!

While I love the Fagen solo work and the Steely Dan songs, I thought this was a really low budget production. Night Flyers were amazing....Donald Fagen for 69 was pretty good also....missed a few notes at times....the pipes aren't the same as they were at 25. Concert lasted only 90 minuets but was non stop music and he did a lot of Steely Dan songs. I would reccomend this concert we had fun.

Nice show as he has a tight and enjoyable band. Voice sounded good and the sound was quite nice from where I sat. Did a nice variety of material and Steely Dan songs which seemed to get the most response from the crowd. Only complaint was that the show could have been longer. That being said ticket price was very reasonable and I guess you get what you paid for. That being said I would have paid more to hear more.

Fantastic!!! Donald Fagen was great. He talked with the crowd between every song. He couldn't give the Nightflyers enough compliments. The music was awesome. HIts are still hits, and the covers were excellent... and the few "new" songs were great. I bought the "new" albums because of the new songs they played. The NightFlyers are a perfect fit for Donald Fagan / Steely Dan music. THEY ARE AWESOME!!!! I've seen well over 100 live shows in my lifetime, from The Who and The Moody Blues to Rush, and The Police. This show ranks in the top 5! AWESOME!

If you're a big fan, the show will undoubtedly take you back down a memory lane of the treasure trove of their musical catalog and allow you to recall where you where, what you were doing, when you heard these tunes that have become so special to you over the years. Because of these things, you're guaranteed to have a great time at the show!

Very Good Show, Donald Fagen an Icon, Pioneer, and major influence on the fusion of pop, rock and jazz. Silver Creek a great venue for an intimate show. The only minor dissapointment was that I was expecting to here mostly solo work however, Donald played mostly Steely Dan tunes which were freshly arranged. Great musicianship by all band members. Top notch talent. Keep rockin Donald! One cool cat!

Donald Fagan and the Nightflyers were amazing! The band is a group on younger musicians and I have to say they rocked it out! Donald Fagan still has it after all these years. If you have a chance to see them, go, it is well woth it. He played some of his tunes as well as the Steely Dan favorites we all love!

Didn't know what to expect, but...WOW! I think even Fagan was overwhelmed with the response of the crowd. Four Winds sound engineers did a great job fine - tuning the sound after a rough start. Absolutely great show!

The hits were great, but the smooth jazz sound / good sounds are gone. Its just time to retire and remember him "on top of his game".

This was such an amazing show. The Nightflyers are a great group of young musicians Donald connected with in the Woodstock, NY area. Great guys, great sound, really bringing some edge to the traditional Steely Dan shows, and great support for the Donald solo material. You dont want to miss this!

Fagen put a great band behind him. The rhythm section, Lee Falco (drums, vocals) and Brandon Morrison (bass, vocals) along with the keyboards by Will Bryant were spot on and as tight as the original Steely Dan recordings. The lead guitarist (Connor Kennedy) was the lightning of the band. He played the solos true to form but added his own energy to push the songs over the top. I liked this band better than the Steely Day band I saw at Blossom Music Center a few years ago (which include Walter Becker). The backup vocals were also true to the original recordings. Fagen was Fagen. True to form, he put a great band to perform with and it was a tight show with a great set list to boot.

where to begin, it is sad to say but they sounded great, but no one bought a ticket to hear Baz Scaggs sing tedy Pendergrass or beach boys songs. or to hear Michel Mcdonald sing a song from Ray Charles that never heard before, Donald fagan was the only one that sang his hitts. and no one certenly paid to see the back up singers take the stage and do full solo's .DO THE SONGS PEOPLE CAME TO HEAR. between these three artist it should have been hit after hit insted it was what is that or why would they do that.

I repeat...The Dukes of September Revue was outstanding! Saw this concert in Tunica, MS (made the drive from Savannah). Absolutely fantastic! One of the most memorable concerts of a lifetime and I've been to many. Every moment was the best and this was so classy and professional with over two hours of solid music. In addition to the fact that EVERY song was outstanding, one forgets that the three stars are also great musicians in their own right. This was not a thrown together group to make money- this was about as sterling quality as I've ever seen. If it continued, I would make an effort to see it again. Do not miss an opportunity to see this, if you haven't already done so.

I thought these guys were great! They each took their turn with some of their old songs, and sang alot of songs from people that inspired them! Great time and great show. They looked like they were having fun, which "rubbed off" on the audience!

A stellar and collaborative performance by all three artist. Mike's vocals were passionate and he's absolutely charming on stage. Boz's vocals were extraordinare, particuraly on "Love T.K.O." and "Miss Sun". The man gets better and better every time I see him perform. His guitar perfomance was top notch in this setting and was notably fit with Jon Herrington in "Lowdown" and "Reelin'". Additionally, Boz has an amazing stage presence; laid back and cool, utterly sophisticated. Donald was engaging, creative and laser focused on the performance; he's simply a musical genius. I appreciate that these artists aren't afraid to try something new and different, and I highly appreciate their collaborative approach on stage. The musical selections were high energy, fun, and songs that now have been made fresh and born again. In fact, I'm hearing these songs more and more on the radio and musac. Memorable music and one of a kind performance.

The Dukes of September were everything expected and much more!! I would love to see this Rhythm Revue an annual venue. Probably- no absolutely the best concert I have ever been to. The rest of the audience thought so too. I drove 6 hours to see them and they were 3 hours from my house the next night and would have driven back and plus 3 hrs to see them the next night. Just didnt know when I got the first tickets, I was afraid they would not play familiar tunes but oh my Gosh!!!!!! All three Dukes have such a distinct voice I was amazed how well they blended together- and so smooth. I am really glad I didnt miss this! I am such a fan and my Mom went with me, she is a huge fan too. There were fans there wearing T-Shirts from past concerts and everyone I talked with would comment about "their favorite song" and wondered if they would sing it. THEY DID!! Awesome! Dont miss this one y'all! Looking forward to the next Dukes of September Rhythm Revue- Loved it! Carralnegirl

This concert was more than worth the cost of the ticket, and these days I can't say that very often. Michael, Donald, and Boz were fabulous and the music brought back the best memories. I could've stayed and listened to them all night. Their song selection couldn't have been better. I'll be looking for them to come back through this area and will see them again. The 2 back-up singers and the band were great too.

While any one of these three amazing musicians could have held my attention for the entire evening, the combination of these three and their band was absolutely riveting! What a show!!! If I had the time, I would travel to catch their show again. My only question was, did the security guards have special training to handle the 50 somethings rushing the stage?? Ha Ha...great show. Thank you guys!

This was an event that left an impression on me. I loved the small intimate venue. The music was classic and the trio burned up the stage. Also, a featured back up singer with the group was wonderful! Had a BLAST!

Great concert. Donald Fagen still loves what he does and he is incredible. He hit a few sour notes on the mouth organ but so what? Boz Scaggs' voice is as good or better than ever. And Michael McDonald is just the coolest white guy on the planet! My main complaint is that the solosby the backup singers just didn't do it for me, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.
