I have two initial complaints that thankfully had/have no bearing on my experience with Trust. First, Mercury Lounge is claustrophobic atmosphere, with one anorexic hallway that leads past the bar and into the main stage area. With a steady line of people against the bar, it was extremely difficult to navigate. Second, the opening bad was a complete joke and utter waste of time. They were disorganized and almost an hour late in starting. The band itself consisted of three boys who didn't look a day over 16 and acted as such. In general, their sound was an uninspired mish-mosh and bastardization of glitch pop elements. The songs relied too heavily on coping off of quotidian sounds and other artists' songs. The lyrics were incomprehensible, and the lead singer acted more like a drugged-up teenager who needed to rant at his parents rather than make a desperate show of throwing a laptop onto the crowd floor. With those two negatives aside, waiting for Trust to come on stage was an intense process but totally worth it. They teased the crowd with the beginning sounds of the opening track on their album, "Shoom," and did a fantastic rendition of it. What followed was a no-nonsense no-frills concert experience. The band did not stop to chit chat or even introduce themselves: it was a straight up darkwave/electro phenomenon. The lead singer was in a world of his own, but his voice was flawless and recreated the dark and sexy atmosphere of the album. Maya's drumming was expert and professional, and it was amazing to see her level of concentration. Over the course of their 8- or 9-song set, they played web favorites like "Bulbform," "Candy Walls," and closed with "Sulk." The best part, however, was unexpectedly meeting the duo at their merchandise booth right beside the exit. They were both extremely affable, and I have a great respect for bands who take charge of making a name for themselves like that. All in all, I cannot wait to see Trust perform again.

Amazing and energetic show. Opened up on new years eve with Shanty and kept jamming all night. The band's sound is a unique blend of southern rock and hypnotic jams. Some songs reminded me of some old school Skynyrd. Lead guitarist and vocalist were in tune with one another. Will catch them in FL again soon.

Dirtyphonics

Everything was stellar. My only complaint would be how long it took dirtyphonics to come out. Le Castle Vania had a really long set it seemed like but he was really good so it didn't matter. Le Castle Vania was actually the highlight of my night because when dirtyphonics finally came on I was pretty tired. They still put on a real good show.

We enjoyed the little there was of the Jane Krakowski concert. It was too short, with encore it was only 67 minutes! At 65 dollars a ticket it was not a value for the money we spent.

Andy Kahn

I was there in the Starlight Room at Resorts in Atlantic City. Piano music came over the speakers and then Andy Kahn appeared, walking through the crowded showroom and up onto the stage, taking his place at the grand piano waiting patiently there for him. He began playing the piano and then proceeded to wow his audience with 102 minutes of non-stop entertainment. Starting off with standards written by Irving Berlin, Andy then presented the musical works of composers Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter, Harry Warren, Johnny Mercer and Sammy Cahn. Throughout his performance, he injected entertaining anecdotes about the composers' lives and fascinating stories regarding the songs themselves. I loved it and so did the audience. We insisted he stay onstage after he'd already played 90 minutes of great jazz piano and singing all those terrific songs in an original style that fit them perfectly. Andy Kahn clearly loves performing these treasures. And this audience ate it up from beginning to end, saluting the artist with a unanimous standing ovation when he wrapped up his concert. He told us he could have gone on an on all night - and most of us there wouldn't have given up our seats, had he done so. It was truly a wonderful night of music, presented by an affable and charming performer. I hope Resorts brings Andy Kahn back soon to perform his series of concerts devoted to the composers of that magical era known as "The Great American Songbook." What a night!

Against the Current

Against the Current blew me away with their show. It was my first time seeing them and I went in with reasonable expectations since they are a younger band, but they perform like a well-seasoned band!! Chrissy Costanza's stage performance is something to be reckoned with, she's like a brunette Hayley Williams in her prime. Girl can rock!!

If you haven't seen Javier Colon in person, you are missing out big time. I had seen him prior when he opened for Joss Stone in San Fran many years ago and from then on it was love! Truly, his voice will make you fall in love with him, his songs, his music and his band. He is a great entertainer and is very personable even when on stage. His band is incredible. You have to see him in person to truly get the experience.
