I was visiting New York for only a few days and caught this show on an off night at the Mercury Lounge. I knew of the dive bar's reputation as the jumping-off point for such bands as The Strokes and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and so I had to check this place out. Needless to say, Cheeseburger was awesome. I hadn't heard of them before, but these guys showed me exactly why they were headlining that night. The lead singer of the band knew how to entertain, and the band didn't take themselves too seriously, which was a refreshing departure from most small-time bands I've checked out recently. Xray Eyeballs was one of the opening bands, and they actually surprised me because I typically don't fall this head-over-heels for opening bands. I thought they were absolutely amazing and had this incredibly cool stage presence about them. Great punk rock vibe that seemed to be inspired by the likes of the Sex Pistols and the B-52s. The lead singer (Carly?) was gorgeous to boot ;) It was definitely one rad night I'll remember for a while if not forever. Great vibes. Thanks, NYC!
