Temple of the Dog

Temple of the Dog

TEMPLE OF THE DOG IN CONCERT:Before they were known as a grunge supergroup that featured members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog was just a one-off tribute to fallen singer Andrew Wood that brought together some seriously talented Seattle musicians for a self-titled album in 1991. As Soundgarden and Pearl Jam reached multi-platinum success later in the '90s, Temple of the Dog's scant live performances became the stuff of myth to all but a lucky few. Now, they're back to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their sole album and blow grunge fans away with favorites like "Hunger Strike," "Say Hello 2 Heaven," and "Pushin Forward Back." The heavy riffs from Pearl Jam guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Gossard will be on tap, and Eddie Vedder's meditative baritone is sure to take fans on a journey with each evocative trill.

This was definitely one of the most memorable shows I've ever attended. To see and hear Chris Cornell with Pearl Jam playing behind him (Cameron is in both groups of course) was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Watching the 5 of them cover Led Zeppelin's Achilles Last Stand at MSG was one of my greatest concert moments ever. I was too young to see Zeppelin perform it live in the 70s, so this was definitely the next best thing! What a night.

Twenty-five years in the making, this was a night never to be forgotten. Having travelled halfway around the world to be here, I was hoping it would live up to my expectations, and it really did. From the moment the band stepped on stage, they all gave 110% and really made the crowd part of the performance. As we were sitting behind the stage, I was concerned I would miss out but Chris regularly walked around the back of the stage to wave up and acknowledge our support. It felt like the band were jamming as they would a quarter of a century ago remembering their old friend Andrew Wood and covering tracks they all love. I feel very privileged to have been a part of this historic tour and only wish I could have attended more concerts.

I thought Temple of the Dog was great. They filled their set list with Mother Love Bone songs and covers from Black Sabith, The Cure and Led Zeppelin as well as others. Bill Graham Civic Center was packed! Glad I got a chance to experience that.

I saw TOTD November 12th in San Francisco. The shows was totally worth the price and we had a great time. Some of the material they played was not my cup of tea, but for the most part it was pretty well representative of the TOTD era. I would absolutely go see Chris Cornell again in any capacity becasue he has one hell of an awesome voice, live. Fantastic Negrito was not so great for me. The sound was good and they were all clearly very talented musicians, Negrito especially, but the material was bordering on like funk or something. Wasn't a good fit with a 90's grunge act I didn't think. I would not intentionally pay money to see Negrito again, but I have seen much worse opening bands.

The show was amazing, my only complaint is that I wish they changed the order of their setlist a bit. It seemed choppy and a lot of ups and downs.

Who would have ever believed that Temple of the Dog would tour to support their sole album (to date), given their superstar statuses as members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden? But indeed, that's just what happened ...... and I could not have been more thrilled to be there. From the opening strains of the walk-up music ("Man of Golden Words" instrumental opening) before they launched into "Say Hello 2 Heaven" to the finale of "All Night Thing," it was a wonderful evening. Even in a venue as vast as MSG, you felt like you were among friends just sharing the influences of the music and people who were important to them.

As we all expected, this was more than just Temple of the Dog. It's very clear that despite the band rivalries, they all ultimately loved and valued each other. It was particularly heartwarming to see them celebrate Andrew Wood.

25 years of waiting to see this, and it was worth every second. The guys were incredible. I wish that I could have seen more of these shows. I sure hope they consider doing this again. They also did what other performers should do. Keep the ticket prices reasonable. Every seat was $88 plus the damn Ticketmaster fees.

Absolutely Classic ! This band came out of the attic and put on a no-fluff show at MSG. No screens. No pyrotechnics. No gimmicks. Just a rock and roll band playing tunes that haven't been played live in decades. Nice tribute to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath too. The crowd was excellent !

I was disappointed to see that the god of rock and roll singers, Chris Cornell, can no longer hit the notes he became famous for. The show, once again like all the other shows...cost of tickets, drinks, concessions, shirts and parking...simply do not balance out for what you get show-wise. Maybe I am jaded, but I want a rock and roll show with huge amounts of energy passed back and forth between crowd and superstars...not too much to ask! Nobody comes close to the Godsmack show, and I have been to prob 10 shows since Nov 2015.

The opportunity to see these legendary musicians play together live once more 25 years after they last did so was a special treat! For all of us who knew they would strongly influence the growing music scene as they sprouted out of Seattle, this was a total celebration of that destiny being realized. The mixture of other and cover songs performed this night amongst every single one recorded back then on the lone album by these guys made for a wonderful musical circus. The crowd was so in to it all night and the band appeared to give us their all as well. Everyone was stoked, but surely exhausted by show's end. Truly a magical night!

It was no surprise that they'd be good, but just how good after 25 years and never touring as a band, remained to be seen. Well, they were phenomenal. Cornell's voice was better than ever and the band was tight. No Eddie, unfortunately, but still amazing. And the covers off Achilles Last Stand was a shock and a mind blower, not to mention War Pigs.

Terrific show, that will likely never get to be seen again. Only downside was the sound... Not the greatest venue sound-wise and the mix seemed to be way off. Nonetheless, spent stupid $ to get good tickets and glad I did.

Waiting 25 years for a band to play live is a long time. The ticketmaster review form has a section that says Bottom line. The bottom line is of course I would recommend this show to a friend, but its never going to happen again. After 25 years Temple of the Dog only played 6 live shows. Chris Cornell sounded amazing. The band has had 25 years of becoming master musicians and proved their mastery at the LA Forum. Say Hello To Heaven, Hunger Strike, Call me a dog, every song they played was literally like singing in a musical temple. IT was sonic perfection. Even the cover songs Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Bowie, Syd Barrett, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure! I couldnt believe I heard them play Fascination St!

and I am as I did get to see them! They were so good, very tight musicianship and of course Chris can pretty much sing anything which he did on songs from not only ToTD and Mother Love Bone, but Bowie, Jimi, Sabbath and the Zep! It was a great night of rock and roll music! If you missed them, maybe you'll get a change next time at the 50th anniversary reunion tour!

It was essentially Pearl Jam with Chris Cornell instead of Eddie Vedder. However, there weren't any Pearl Jam or Soundgarden songs performed - which is great! Instead, they played everything off the Temple of the Dog album, plus quite a few Mother Love Bone songs. Additionally, there were plenty of cover songs played (David Bowie, The Cure, Free, Harry Nilson, etc.). I would say the best covers were Led Zeppelin's "Achille's Last Stand" and Black Sabbath's "War Pigs". They really knocked those out of the park! I think anyone would have appreciated Temple of the Dog's performance. However, this was more of a gift to the fans who listened to that album over and over way back in the early 90's. I'm grateful to have witnessed this performance.

PearlGarden = Musically Outstanding. Sounded really good. Thoroughly enjoyable the whole way through. All the cover song choices worked well and left me wanting more. Playing the entire album was a bonus I had not expected. Now I've seen Cornell in just about every band he's been in. His vocal chops are a true gift. Fantastic Negrito (The opener) was fun to watch as well. Talented voice.

What can I say? I got to see Temple of the Dog. A wildly influential band that has never really toured. It felt like a once in a lifetime event. Since they were only playing about a total of a dozen shows they didn't have any elaborate stage designs, which made the whole show feel much more intimate. Just some rock with some really talented and skilled performers. I loved that. Chris was his usual charismatic self and engaged the audience well. I enjoyed hearing about his accounts of those days back in the Seattle scene. What he could remember, at least, haha. They played their entire album, which is only ten songs. They added to their set a large variety of covers from bands like the Cure, Lead Belly, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and more. They rocked!!

Chris Cornell is the greatest rock singer alive and one of the all time greatest. Temple of the Dog's music is all of 10 songs, so the band performed several Mother Love Bone songs in tribute of the late Andrew Wood, which was not surprising, and then proceeded to blow us away with songs from David Bowie, Syd Barrett, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Free, the Cure and Black Sabbath. Amazing show and Stone, Mike, Jeff and Matt were excellent. The sound at the Bill Graham Civic was great. Can't say enough good things - still beaming.
