I've seen Lauren Kennedy in "Good ol girls" and she was lovely, as Evita she is stunning. You don't want to say you missed this for a second time before it goes back to Broadway.

My husband (US born) and I (Polish born) went to see Hello Dolly as a last minute arrangement. Wow, it was such a good decision! Neither of us ever saw this famed musical in spite of living in NYC for a number of years and attending Broadway and off Broadway shows on the average - 1 x a month. We both loved the show and the performers - the only complaint we had that during group singing the sopranos had a squeaking sound (microphones setting or acoustics?), unpleasant to hear. The males singing did not produce this after-sound. We were sorry to have missed Cybil Sheppard but the substitue "Dolly" did an amazing job for such a short notice performance. Thank you for such a great production!

We had to get passed the dissapointment of Cybil Sheppard's injury and subsequent cancelation. Im sure- so did the cast. It must have been hard to fill Cybils shoes...and the knowledge that so many people came to just see her. But they did. We did too. Once we were there too, we were treated to a good show. Our seats were perfect. The best we've ever had. And that helped. So we got to see a classic that we would have otherwise probably skipped. Im glad we made it.

I loved Hello Dolly, My Sister and I took Our Mom & Aunts, They loved it. My Mom & Aunts are still talking about it. We took them for Mother's Day it was so special. had front row seats, but any seat in NC Theater is great, been there many times. We thought We would miss Cybil Shepard playing Dolly, let Me tell You We didn"t.

The star of the show, Cybil Shephard could not make the event which I was a little upset about since that was one of the reasons we purchased tickets. I am happy to say that the show and the new "Dolly" did not dissapoint and I can't imagine that Cybil could have been any better than the new actress. I would highly recommend this show. There was only one character that was annoying but everyone else made up for it.

This play was ok, for something to do on a weekend, but honestly nothing to get excited about. Phantom of the Opera or Jersey Boys it isn't. The theatre is not huge, so if you are just looking for something to do, use the less expensive seats for this one.

The staging and choreography were wonderful, however I had purchased tickets hoping to see Cybil Shepherd who would have been such a "presence" on stage. So sorry she couldn't appear. Her replacement was fine and she did a great job for having to learn everything at the last moment, but she didn't have the sizzle that Cybil would have had. I think next time I'll buy my tickets closer to the event rather than a month before.

The show was spectacular! Actors were very talented and the troop used many local children in the ensemble which made it even more enjoyable. Kudos to the entire cast and crew of Oliver! The theater, however, was terribly warm. It was distracting to look over the audience and see hundreds of playbills being used to fan the patrons. An otherwise lovely Saturday evening out on the town was made miserable due to a very sweaty 2+ hours. I hadn't visited the Memorial Auditorium in several years and, after this experience, I'm afraid I won't be back.

This production was excellent in every aspect. The costumes, sets and music set a wonderful stage for this extremely talented cast. Acting was well done, the timing and flow of the story was seamless and the singers gave life to the songs' words and the tone they set. I would highly recommend this production to anyone who enjoys theater.

The performance was a bit disappointing. The good: the youth and local performers were great to see in a professional production. The orchestra was excellent and beautifully conducted. The set was interesting, as the cast repositioned it quite often to give us different locals and views of the city. This worked very well. The vocals and choreography were well above average. The bad: The worst was the A/C failed during the first act and the theater became quite uncomfortable. As for the production, the sound levels were varied and dialog was difficult to understand at times. I hesitate to say it, but the young man who played Oliver, was wooden. He was more of a prop than the lead character. His vocals were quite good but somehow lacked for emotion. This detracted from the overall plot. The dramatic climax came up short. Either I missed something or there was a disjoint in the way the scene was blocked?

Performance was well done and I was impressed with the precision of the troup since some are from NC, some not. Means having to pull it together upon arrival...worked out well. The sound was not great, so it was hard to catch the dialog, but it was great to hear that cavalcade of songs that were in there again. Forgotten how many great tunes came out of that musical. Enjoyed it and my 87 year old Mother stayed awake the whole time, THAT means it was good!

Steel Magnolias was well executed by a small cast of talented ladies. Mixed with good humor, the characters pulled you in and touched your emotions. As a gentleman, I took my wife for her enjoyment (she loves chick flicks) but found I personally enjoyed the evening as well. The one thing that was annoying was the persistent negativity toward Christians in the script, as if they were lower class people (don't understand why that was brought out so many times, when they only have limited content to include in a theatre setting). For this reason, I give it 3 Stars instead of 4.

Five self proclaimed "Steel Magnolias" attended the Saturday matinee and were blown away by how good the play, actors and set was. We weren't real sure how the script would play out since it all took place in Truvy's Beauty Shop, but it was written beautifully. Alhough we each knew the lines by heart (and have quoted them to each other throughout the years!) there was enough fresh material and small changes to keep the play original. I would not only recommend it to every Steel Magnolia out there, but plan to see it again if it ever comes back to Raleigh!

There wasn't the depth of character that I had been hoping to see. The one really moving character was Clairee. I got lost in her as a character, not an actress playing a character. I did not have that with the others as much. In order of feeling less like I was watching actresses in a play as much as watching people interacting with each other were Truvy, Annelle, M'Lynn, and lastly Ouiser, who I rarely saw as a person and mostly saw as an actress trying to portray a character.

The script for Steel Magnolias is amazing, but the performance is always determined by the actors. This cast did a phenomenol job! Any time a play can make you laugh, cry, and stay entertained the whole way through, it is a winner, and this one definitely fits the bill. My only complaint is the seating. Sitting in the second row near stage left, we had trouble seeing parts of the set, and also parts of the action. The stage was above eye level. Having paid a lot for these "best available" seats, that was a huge disappointment. The ticketers should price seats based on proximity AND view.

Performer quality was substandard. Che, as one of the lead characters, was poorly cast. He didn't have quite the range necessary and he ended up shouting much of his part. I was expecting to hear a high quality singing performance, not shouting. He also missed a line. Very disappointing, especially given his long resume in the program. Eva Peron was pretty good. The rest of the cast actually did fairly well. During the drive home I turned on the Broadway recording of Evita because I wanted to hear the musical, but left disappointed with the live performance. Would not recommend.

I was really not impressed. The voices of the cast seem muffled. Either they were not performing up to par or there were issues with the sound. I attended this event with my daughters, aged 19 and 21. They loved the LB movie so we were very excited to see this play. We thoroughly enjoyed it. There were a lot of people let in after the play started and a lot of movement during the play. This isn't the movies. We had two obnoxiously drunk patrons in front of us who were up and down for the first act and part of the second. Thankfully, they finally left. I think ushers should limit movment of those type people.

Well done version of Oliver, the musical. After seeing the movie, many times, it still is my favorite version, 5 stars. I don't see how it could have been done much better considering the constraints of a theater. There is always something special about seeing it done live on the stage.

To be perfectly honest, the overall performance was average, at best. The actor playing Oliver was, sadly, less than impressive. He has a fantastic voice, but virtually no stage presence. Often times we had difficulty finding him on the stage...even when he was speaking or singing. We understand that Oliver should be played as a small and somewhat shy character, but we've seen the movie many times and I've seen it on stage twice, and this appeared to be too much...or rather not enough. In addition, Fagan and Mr. Bumble were phenomenal, Nancy and Dodger were good and Bill was decent. Their singing voices were all good, it's the acting that lacked on occasion. Actually, to be fair, there were a few occasions during which Dodger was very good. Also, the final scene seemed to take place in a 2 minute time span...seemed VERY rushed. I had a rather unpleasant experience seeing NC's Theater's production of Grease a few years ago; however, after being THOROUGHLY impressed with NC's production of The Producer's, it's possible that my expectations were a bit high for Oliver. The Producer's was an INCREDIBLE performance. Above, I listed that I would recommend the show to a friend. However, I would only recommend it to a friend who is very familiar with Broadway shows, and I would brief them according to my aforementioned comments. By no means will this prevent us from coming to watch future NC Theater productions, but as a person who has only ever replied to a handful of requested critiques, I wanted to inform you of our mild/moderate disappointment.

I had seen the movie Oliver! back in the late 60's and I have to be honest, this NC Theater production rivals that film. The actors were very well cast, and the chorus singers and actors performed at a high level of performance. The scenery was so well staged that you would think you were actually there! The orchestra was excellent as always, and the sound was very well presented. A section neighbor of mine actually commented that he said this production rivaled the play he saw in New York on Broadway!

Well-deserved exclamation point in the title. We've come to expect really good shows at Memorial Auditorium, but this one was particularly outstanding. Lots of good local talent, especially the young'uns. Voices and characters were superb. But the best aspect of Oliver! was the perfecly executed choreography, some of the best and on-point as I've ever seen locally. Very professional production, expensive, but worth every penny.

Great musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The music is extremely compelling and the acting/dance numbers were all first rate. Sadly, the the sound needed improvement. Unfortunately, too often sound engineers seem to need to crank the audio up so loud that it distorts the quality of the audio. This was the case for me and my family with Evita making it very difficult to impossible to hear the words of the many of the songs being sung. Things were fine with most of the more softly sung solo numbers but very disappointed the the sound quality of the more forcefully sung numbers. Luckly I've seen Evita twice before so I know the storyline well. It was the first time for my teenage daughter however and although she tried to listen best she could, she missed much of the lyrics, which of course carry the story. In my opinion if they sound guy would have just turned it down a bit or worked out the acustics of the theatre and the actors vocals it would have been much better and not disappointing in this regard.

Generally enjoyed the show. Chorus was weak in the dance department. The Tango sequence in the WALTZ FOR EVA and CHE was, at best, amatuer. As a result, it takes away from one of the most powerful scenes in the musical. Finally, in this particular presentation, I found that the actor portraying Che overpowered the actor playing Evita. We lose quite a bit of the true love story between Evita and Peron as opposed to the non-stop berating of Evita by Che. Definitely a director's choice. Enjoy!

I am an Evita fan, and I thought the show was well done. I enjoyed seeing the photographs that depicted the real Eva Peron. The storyline followed what I expected, and the actors were great. The female lead's voice was slightly out of her range when it got too high or fast, but she sang most of the songs quite well. The male lead added intrigue and interest and did a great job as well. I thought the children were remarkable! Their voices were so pure and on key. Overall, it was an afternoon well spent and worth the 2-hour drive from Washington, NC.

Evita was a great flashback to Argentina, knowing the history in advance really helped, so I recommend looking up some of the political background before going! Singing and dancing were good, staging and choreography were amazing!

I loved each and every moment of the musical. I haven't done my "homework" before the play, so I only had a vague knowlege of who Eva Peron (or Evita) was. Even though I wasn't an expert in Argentina's history, I definitely could feel the drama, the intensity , and the complexity of this pretty amazing women, her very strong drive to succeed in life, even if her actions not always were to benefit others but herself. I new (like most of the audience supposedly) only the main motif of the music, so I was afraid a little bit that it will become boring, but nothing like that happened. The perfomances by the main characters were perfect, the singing and dancing as well, the electricity was in the air, and the really sad ending (or beginning?) was very touching.

In the first half, we couldn't understand the words in any of the loud parts - which was a lot of it. Too bad, because that was important to understand what the story was all about. The singers were very good, though. It seemed to be more of a problem with the sound system being turned up too loud.

Evita was a good overall show. My brother and I enjoyed seeing history in an musical. My one complaint is that there should be a summary of the story in the program booklet. Nothing was there and musicals at times are hard to follow if you don't have the story before hand.

My daughter and I attended a play on Broadway this summer so when she asked me to accompany her to Evita, I was happy to comply. We were both amazed at the talent of this cast, especially Lauren Kennedy and Ray Walker. That we have the opportunity to attend performances of this caliber here in Raleigh is amazing and wonderful. We will most certainly make attempts to attend more performances.

I was so impressed with this production. From the lighting and staging to the singing and acting it was a delight. I don't believe it could have been any better on Broadway!
