Better Than Ezra

Better Than Ezra

BETTER THAN EZRA IN CONCERT:New Orleans' hometown heroes Better Than Ezra dominated '90s airwaves with a string of ubiquitous, fuzzed-out alt-rock hits like "Good" and "Desperately Wanting." The band's poppy, sing-along anthems came to define the sound of a generation, making each live show something of a reunion for their devoted fans. The elation was palpable at their 2013 shows, and with a new album due out in summer 2014, Better than Ezra will be delivering bigger than ever on their 2014 tour dates.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Formed by four Louisiana State University students in the late '80s, Better Than Ezra cut its teeth performing at fraternities and house parties before going on to generate buzz with their cassette-only demos.

BTE put on a great show, but then again they always do. The music, sound quality, and crowd interaction are better than any other performer I have been to see. Shawn Hook the opener was very good, I plan to buy his album after seeing him play.

I had a great time, I'm not from New Orleans but I was attending LSU back in the 90's that was the first time I had seen BTE...it was a few times at some local BR bars I became an instant fan...but throughout the years in life I faded as a fan...I moved back to New Orleans just this past year and to have the chance to see them play up close like back in the day brought back some great memories! I look forward to following the success of the band and being a fan again! Tyrone Wells was awesome too! Thank you for offering such a great show!

As usual, Better Than Ezra was awesome! I had never heard of 16 Frames but bought their CD before leaving the venue because I liked them that much. I will say that their sound system sounded like crap though. However, BTE was on point and mixed some old with some new and delivered their usual kick ass show!

Marianne Keith started the show and she was very good, enjoyed her music. Tyrone Wells then took the stage. He was AMAZING! I was not familiar with him or his music prior to getting the tickets for the show. Once I knew he was opening for BTE I bought his music. I wanted to hear if this guy would compliment BTE or be a wet blanket. Once I heard his music I knew it was going to be a rockin' show. Great choice BTE!! Tyrone Wells' performance surpassed my expectations. His music comes from his soul and is very moving. Excellent choice! Now what can I say about BTE?! Our guys! Gotta love 'em even with this "chatty" performance. They have yet to let me down when it comes to their music and this new CD continues the run. I found they were awkward in the very beginning of the show and maybe why a little chatty?! Who knows?! For as long as I've been attending their shows over the years, this was the only one I would say wasn't 100%. It was like they were off their game. Was it because this was the first show of the tour?! Trying to get their feel for the response of the new music from their fans?! It will remain a mystery. BTE's ability to deliver the sound of their music fantastically remains untarnished!

This was one of those shows that reminded me why I love going to see Better Than Ezra! They sounded AWESOME!! The new music is great and it's always good to hear the old stuff too! The venue wasn't as packed as it should have been but that's just Richmond. Sometimes the people here are trying to be too hip for their own good. :( Regardless of that, BTE played for a little ove an hour and a half and the people who came out to the show had a good time. It was a great crowd. If you have the chance to see BTE on this tour you should go. Paper Empire is a great album but the songsa re even better live! You won't be disappointed! the National is an amazing venue! If you get a chance to see a show there GO! You won't regret it!

Nothing like seing BTE in their home town of New Orleans. Great that they finally released a new cd and hearing it live puts all the songs in a different category. The sounds and crowd at the HOB New Orleans adds even more to the event. Great time and trip to the Big Easy!

I have seen BTE on a number of occasions and this show was up there with the best of them. The mixture of perennial favorites and new (soon to be favorite) songs was excellent. Michael Jerome, who replaced Travis McNabb on the drums, is a natural fit with Tom, Kevin and rarely mention James. If one of their concerts cannot get you up and excited then I doubt any other artist can do it.

Some bands turn out great albums but their lack of personality and stage presence gives no justification for forking over $30 for a ticket to see them regurgitate what they already recorded, note for note. Better Than Ezra is not one of those bands. Their performance was full of impromptu and creative momentary lapses of reason. I loved their onstage banter and dialogue. All the hits were played on top of some Who covers and I think that they even tried to cover a hit from the Bangles (not sure, they quickly aborted after a few bars were played in the key of A). I got a personally signed poster from them and a sincere thanks from all band mates regarding my merchandise purchases and "thumbs-up" approval of their performance. They are a "stand-up" group of guys that sure know how to play live...

I've been going to Better Than Ezra shows since back to 95, and I never walk away disappointed. Hands down, they are the best band to see live. The guys are always so charismatic and funny when interacting with each other or with us in the crowd. The new drummer was great; he fit in great with Tom & Kevin. They played only a few songs from the new album, playing alot of stuff from prior albums, as well as, a couple cover tunes - which they rocked of course! I SO wish radio would wake up to how good these guys are. SO many people are missing out on this band - it's a shame; however with that being said, I relish in the intimate venues I've see them in. I love being with a smaller group of peeps, who I know cherish and are as devoted to BTE as much as I am and can sing every word to every song. Kevin & Tom even mentioned they saw familiar faces the other night - we just keep coming back again again every time they come to the Tidewater area. They are much loved here! If BTE comes to your area, GO SEE THEM! You WILL NOT be disappointed. Oh, and for cry'n out loud, go BUY their CD's!!!

My first time seeing the band....was def impressed ! Kevin & Co were most-entertaining, and their show is a "Must See." They rocked the house (almost 1,500 in attendance). They mixed -in awesome covers : Cheap Trick's "Surrender", Pete Townsend's' "Let My Love Open The Door", The Who's "Pinball Wizard", Lady Gaga's "My Poker-Face"....VERY ECLECTIC!! Opening act 16 Frames will satisfy as well..very promising up-and-comers !

This may be the 4th or 5th time that I have see them but it was just as amazing if not more so. It is the combination of the way their songs sound live (unforgettable) and their stage presence. They are clearly having a good time and there to put on the best possible show.

BTE continues to impress me as the "boys next door" how actually learned to play their instruments. They were tight, all 4 four members on stage seemed as if they could read the others mind. They did a few impromptu songs as always plus a gift to those who may have missed the Cheap Trick (not the other two on the same bill) show also in town with a awesome cover of Surrender. If you're a BTE have or just someone who wants a FUN night of good old rock and roll. This is the affordable tour of the summer.

Better Than Ezra rocked the Bottle & Cork in Dewey, Delaware. The place only holds ~500, all standing, and it was a great night of music. The opening act, 16 Frames, was decent - a good opening act. Better Than Ezra put on an amazing show last night! The last time I saw them was about ten years ago at the 9:30 Club in D.C., and I'm gonna have to say, that BTE is one of the best bands to see at a small venue! Better Than Ezra was the opening act for The Wallflowers. In all honesty it should have been the other way around. BTE played for a solid 1 1/2 hours, engaged the crowd, engaged each other, and put on a wonderful show!! Absolutely would recommend them. The Wallflowers followed them after a set change that took almost an hour. In short, 25% of the crowd walked out before The Wallflowers were half way through their 1 hour set.

I've been going to see Better Than Ezra since the 90s, and like many people, I consider them one of the most underrated bands. They put on a great show and love their fans. Also, they have a strong service ethic as evidenced by their foundation. That being said, this NYE was not their best performance for a few reasons. Their opening band, Fletcher Rockwell, played a longer set than would be usual. Many of us were losing patience when FR claimed they were just playing "a few more songs". The sound system at the House of Blues was substandard. I was standing close to the stage yet unable to hear the music and lyrics. It also seemed like the band could not hear each other and were occasionally not playing in synch. There were definitely moments of fun at this show, including a strong entrance with "King of New Orleans", the Chi Town Rising performance and a few covers of Chicago bands. Looking forward to seeing the band again in different circumstances.

I know concerts rarely get started right on time, but and hour and a half after the scheduled start time is a bit ridiculous. I'm sure some of that was planned because of the live broadcast segment for New Years Eve. That's fine, but they should have just stated the concert was going to start at 9:30 at the earliest. These guys are still going strong in my opinion and sounded great. Most all of the classics were played, along with some newer material and covers. The only song I wish the would have played, and didn't, was Live Again.

The show was great The lead singer's voice was something very special. This was a performance that wasn't just fun to listen to but also a real treat to watch. I went to the concert to hear great music, but was truly entertained by so much more. Thanks for a great show. I wish I could go back and watch it all over again. Sister Hazel opened the show and got the growing crowd really in to it, really warmed everyone up for what was about to come. Lead singer had a visitor land on his microphone which made things interesting for a couple of songs. Better than Ezra hit the stage on a beautiful night, breeze blowing temps in high 70's with low humidity. Played an energized set featuring some Outkast, Queen, Stone Temple Pilots, Rolling Stones even some from Saturday Night Fever! The show had everyone up and dancing all over the place, even called the ladies to the stage for a group sing-dance along. Better than Ezra NEVER lets you down and ALWAYS leaves you looking forward to the next time they come around! GREAT SHOW AGAIN GUYS, THANKS !!!

Went to LSU have seen Ezra a bunch to say the least. Always puts on a good show. Over last 6 or 7 years have participated in their VIP/Foundation pre-party and this year was a disappointment. Band spent little time at VIP show, no pictures w/band which historically is done, just seemed like a poor showing. Opening act was terrible. Local eclectic group of musicians but audience was borderline heckling them. Ezra performed their 10 or 12 songs and promptly excited the stage. Overall subpar experience.

Kevin knows how to interact with a crowd and make the show fun for Ezralites and people who don't really know the band well. Everyone in the crowd was having a good time! I think House of Blues oversold the GA tickets. It was crowded throughout the venue, but it was worth it to see such a good performance. Also, drummer Michael Jerome Moore is amazing! First time I saw Better Than Ezra live was about a year ago. I was restless that night, looking for something to do and they were playing in town at the House of Blues. On a whim, I bought tickets and headed downtown. Better Than Ezra is an amazing band. As I sat and listened, I was surprised at how many songs I recognized from back in the day (the day being the nineties). Frontman Kevin Griffin was having a great time working the crowd. He also having fun working the band. It was obvious at several points during the performance that the band wasn't sure exactly sure what was going to happen next, but they played along and improvised as true professionals much to the delight of the audience. They did this recurring Sara Smiles (Hall and Oates) bit that you had to be there to truly appreciate. It was a great show, better than I expected. Their music made me feel good and ever since that night I have become a dedicated fan. The show this past Saturday night was no different. The atmosphere was festive and fun. Kevin was joking around as usual. Several references were made to the upcoming LSU Wisconsin game with Kevin changing up lyrics to one of their songs in honor of his alma mater. He good naturedly warned Wisconsin fans it might be at good time to go to the bathroom or grab a cocktail while he sang about his team. Musically, the band is superb. Not only did they play all of their radio hits, they also played new music from their soon to be released album. I wish I had been paying closer attention so I could name some of the songs. I was caught up in the moment. What wonderful moments they were. If you ever have an opportunity to see Better Than Ezra live, do it. Even if you can only think of one song you remember. I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised.

BTE a great show at Revolution in Broward County. A small venue but a big mardi gras time. The interaction of the band with the crowd due to the club atmosphere versus the stadium just can't be beat. These guys rocked and they have a great sense of humor that was really nice to see up close.

Better Than Ezra put on a great concert Wednesday night! They completely entertained the crowd and kept everyone singing and dancing...they played all their hits, and some great covers (Laid was the best). Lead singer Kevin Griffin amused the crowd with his funny and quirky comments and interjections between songs. The entire band hung out after the concert to take photos and sign autographs.

Once again, my boys from NOLA did not disappoint! Fabulous show...great to hear some of the older tunes again, as well. Kevin, Tom and Michael always put on such a fun and entertaining, yet very intimate-feeling show. Really proud of all of their successes....go Kevin co-writing Sugarland's newest hit! :) Please make your way back to the Tampa Bay area again soon!

Awesome concert! The venue was beautiful.... great acoustics and so clean. I loved ever minute. I wasn't a huge Ezra fan when I bought the tickets, but I am now. They rocked! And it was a great price!

As always, the guys are clever, hilarious and so much fun. This was my third BTE show and they never get old, they always mix it up, include something fresh and surprises here and there. I tell everyone I know, you really should go atleast once in your life to laugh, dance and listen to great, timeless music.

This show really made me feel like I was back in New Orleans watching them, which were always the best shows. The first time they played in Houston was good, but this time was amazing! The trombone and trumpet guys that always play in New Orleans came to Houston to play this time, which really opens up the variety in the set list. They played a few from How Does Your Garden Grow? including Happy Day MaMa, which I don't think I've ever heard live (and I've seen them more times than I can count!). I love these guys!

Great concert at HOB Dallas last night. Better Than Ezra put on a great show as always and we had a special treat of having their New Orleans horn players on stage with them as well.

I recently became a fan of Better Than Ezra, and this was the first time I had been able to see them live. It certainly won't be the last! They absolutely know how to work a room, and deliver a great rock and roll show. They played several tracks off their latest album, but also played their greatest hits. I would highly recommend seeing them if you get the opportunity!

I've been to many Better Than Erza shows as they always put on a great show. I love their music & it's awesome live. I also love their between-songs banter & how they will start playing a totally random song! I did miss 2 things this time that I've enjoyed in the past...They didn't have their audience participation during "Good" when they have an audience member come on stage & play the guitar. And they didn't play "This Time of Year" & throw a football out to the audience during the line "There's a football in the air..."

Wow!!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! These guys are so incredible... not only did their live music kick major major butt, but Kevin, Tom, Michael & Jim are all super fantastic dudes... Got to meet the guys before the show, they are all super kind and Kevin is very humble... They're funny too during the show, the things they say between songs, very personal with the crowd. And if you didn't get to meet them before the show, they meet people afterwords and will sign stuff for you. Kevin remembered me from the crowd too... I was right up front on their last song and was head-banging to 'In the Blood' right in front of Kevin and he was making eye contact with me, then afterwords, like 30 minutes later he said to me, 'Thanks for jamming with me on that last song.' ... Wow!!! ... Also got to kick it with Michael their new drummer before the show for about 15 minutes and he's super nice... not to mention his wicked-awesome skills on the drums.... A truly insanely awesome experience!

Better than Ezra was simply amazing, i have seen numerous amounts of bands play but no one seems to be having more fun and loving what they do than these guys, ludo is probably right up there with them though, the are just having a great time up there, crackin jokes, having fun, making it a very unique "live experience".

One of the greatest live bands of this generation, BTE did not disappoint in St. Louis. They energized the crowd at The Pageant and delivered a great mix of old material, new material, and covers/humor into the show. One of the best concerts in St. Louis over the past few years.

This was the first time we had ever been to the Culture Room and were both impressed by the indoor/outoor layout and the intimate set up. There is not a bad place in the house - can't say seat, as it is standing only, but that's ok because as soon as the band took the stage, we were dancing and rocking the entire time. I had purchased the new BTE CD Paper Empire, so we knew all those songs as well as the assorted goodies from the past. The new Drummer Michael fit right in and Tom and Kevin kept the crowd engaged the entire show. Got some great pics and to top off the evening, we hung out a little longer than expected at the Culture Room and stumbled out to the parking lot to have a night cap in the dive bar next door. And lo and behold, the band was there and we got pics, autographs with them. It was a BTE Groupie nite for sure. Gotta see them when they come thru your town.

I've seen BTE many times in and around the Tampa Bay area. Jannus Landing is the best venue in my opinion. BTE is a personable band and they make smaller venues a fantastic experience. They like to interact with the audience and the shows are always awesome. Many of the much bigger bands put on horrible live performances. BTE's live music is always high quality. Can't give them enough praise for the quality of their shows. Great performance as always guys..

BTE always puts on an amazing live show, and they did not disappoint this time. Kevin G has a great way of interacting with the crowd with great covers and inviting some of the crowd up on stage. They incorporated new music in the show, but it was a great mix of old and new. I would highly recommend BTE anytime. Horseshoe Casino Bluesville is a great small venue to catch bands. I have seen a few bands play here and have not been disappointed.

We've seen BTE 13 times. Although we haven't been super impressed with the last 2 albums, their live show is still one of the best. They played a great selection of their songs, and a few surprise covers. The venue sounded great and was laid out well.

Always a wonderful time. I like their energy, stage presence, and mix of old and new songs. Only thing I don't like is I have seen them a few times and they always play a few covers from other bands. I like to see a band play their own music, but I understand why they do it to get the crowd excited. Also love that they use local drop in musicians a lot when they play NOLA. Great concert overall. Very fun, lots of standards from their albums plus a little improv!

These guys still know how to rock it out -- great fun and great venue ... along with great friends made for an unforgettable night out. If I had to choose a band to hear for New Years Eve -- Better Than Ezra would be the one! Love to hear their music and the fab covers ... add their quirky sensibilities and straight up fun factor and you've got a winner. Thanks for such a great show guys!

Skipped plenty of good songs. Played a bunch of random stuff in between at the expense of their own good music. Very disappointing
