The Moody Blues

The Moody Blues

Moody Blues On Tour The Moody Blues are '60s English rock band known for their progressive rock sound and their role in creating the "concept" album. The group originally started out as a rhythm and blues band, but with the release of their 1967 album Days of Future Passed, the band created a sound that was a mix of classical and rock music. Days of Future Passed is widely considered the first concept album and their fusion of rock and classical music was dubbed art rock or progressive rock. The Moody Blues released 12 more albums after Days of Future Passed until they took a break from recording between 1991 and 1998.

The 50th Anniversay Tour was amazing. Almost otherworldly, as the music and background visuals made you feel that you were in the field of flowers. Will never forget the experience!

Fourty years later, and they are going stronger than ever. The music was as big as it has always been, and the vocals were as strong as ever, not a missed note all night. We enjoyed the selection of music. It wasn't all "top hits". They played some favorites as well as some not-so-well-known tunes. Thank you guys for an amazing night. Moody Blues Still Rock!!!

These guys sound just like their records - but different enough to be really enjoyable. I've wanted to see them for years, I thought I was a moderate fan, but after the show, I'm hooked. Great music, they seemed genuinely thrilled with the positive response from the audience. Classy

I thought the entire concert was great, except I was hoping that they would play one of my favorite songs "Gemini Dream" which they didn't play. The original drummer was/is a hoot getting out there on center stage getting the crowd all revved up. I also liked the flautist on front stage...she added a lot of cool sounds up there.

This was a "Retro" event. Just like an old car it needs to be tuned-up. Vocals were the mainstay for this band that I remember but not last night. The mixer clearly didn't know how to bring the vocals "UP" and were washed-out on many songs. I can forgive age of the lead vocals even the few times of voice pitch and crack problems. Bun not the sound Mixer! The woman/girl on the flute and percussion was the highlight of the sjo and not the Moody Blues who at times we joked might fall and break a hip!

Justin's voice still sounds really good. The band is made up of 3 of the original Moody's and then some new members. They all are great musicians. They played for about 1.5 hours. The crowd was good. Not too many jerks or annoying young people with their stupid cell phones. It was a lot of fun for us.

LIked it, but have seen better. vocals were soft and the drums, although great. were overpowering. Nice set, mixing older and newer tunes. For the money, Smokey Robinson did a better show the week before. Would I go again? Maybe. The best part was the fans, who totally enjoyed it. But it passed me by.

THERE IS NOT A GROUP OUT THERE THAT BELONGS IN THE ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME THAN THE MOODY BLUES. TWO HOURS OF CLASSIC SONGS PER4FORMED TO PERFECTION AND SUNG BY THE BEST VOICE IN ROCK N ROLL JUSTIN HAWARD. AWSOME CONCERT.

This was my first Moody Blues concert, although I have been a long-time fan. What a show! The crowd must have been around my age - when did I get so old?!? The band was spot-on and a real treat. The Humphrey's venue was new to me, too, and it was perfect. It's not half bad listening to a top-notch band in the open air on a balmy evening while surrounded by palm trees and sailboats.

Love the Moody Blues, always have. I saw them up in Woodland hills on April 09, 2009 and they rocked the house. In fact, they we're so awesome, that when the tickets went on sale for Humphries in San Diego CA for July 21, 2009, I immediately bought 3. Well, they must of forgotten how to sing and harmonize last night. They trashed the last song of the night, "Ride my seesaw" and sang falsetto in " I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band". It was still a concert with the Moody Blues, but the guys really needed to get their act together.

They were just perfect in their music, a blend of older and newer music. Strong vocals and great instrument instrument playing. Fifty years after Days of Future Passed was released, and just 3 months before the Moody Blues long overdue induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame...how could this show be anything other than epic! Lodge, Heyward, and Edge were in top form...they haven't lost a step, or a note...the show was a great mix. The first set consisted of hits from various albums, followed by a complete performance of Days of Future Passed. All topped off by a two song encore of Question and Ride my Seesaw. Also included was a beautiful tribute to the memory of Ray Thomas, to whose memory the performance of Days of future Passed was dedicated. So lucky to have seen these rock legends after all these years. For a group in their 70s, they made all of us in the audience feel like we were 18 again for a little while.

Purchased the VIP merchandise/ticket package for this event. It was well worth it. Would not miss a chance to see Moodies perform live again, especially when it was in my home town. The performance was punctuated with photographs of recently deceased founding band member Ray Thomas, to whom the event was dedicated. There was no opening act, and they played their greatest hits during the first half and after intermission, devoted the entire second half to performance of the entire Days of Future Passed album. That was my favorite part. I had not realized how much that album meant to me growing up. All in all, I was very pleasant experience.

Essentially I would say it was a better than average concert. Nice selection of tunes and they can still rock pretty good. A couple of issues for me though. They played maybe 30 minutes of mixed songs from across multiple albums and then took a 20 minute break. Seriously? A break? When they returned they played the Days Of Future Passed music. No orchestra as all of the lush instrumentals were prerecorded and accompanied by visuals on a screen. The sound was exceedingly loud. When they played they, and their additional band members, were quite good. Hardly any interaction with the audience. Edge was light on on the drums with the beat maintained by their second drummer and Lodge couldn't reach the high notes on Ride My Seesaw. Hayward was really good throughout and carries the team.

First, I have enjoyed the Moody Blues for years, and seeing them live was on my "musicians you must see before they or I die." Before the show they played a well presented video of Ray Thomas. Second, I love the venue, but this was very disappointing. For whatever reason the sound techs decided to place the subwoofers closer to the stage than on the parameter; consequently, even though we had tickets on the 7th row, we could only see 1/2 of the stage and the magnificent LED screen was blocked as well. The Band's first "set" ran 35 minutes where they ran through several of their hits. During the set it was obvious that Graeme Edge had seen better days behind the drum kit barely tapping the cymbals. Luckily, they had a second, younger, and more enthusiastic drummer who covered nicely. After a 20-minute intermission a 10 minute video followed with a tribute to Knights in White Satin. Much of the remainder of the second set relied on the fancy LED screen and a sound track with the band members simply standing and waiting for their parts to come back and start playing. The third set was the encore which ran 3 songs and was probably the best of the show. Glad I went, checked off another group on my bucket list, but unless you are a real fan pass on this one.

The sound at the beginning of the concert was very muddy. None of the individual instruments could be heard clearly and the voices were lost in the mush. It did clear up during the 2nd set and the encore. The stage lighting was incredibly irritating! Never before in my concert going experience have I had bright lights shown in my eyes for so long and so often during a show. I had to put my hand in front of my eyes too many times to count. This was the first time I have encountered these problems at this venue so I have to point to the actual show people as being responsible.

My best friend and I of 40+ years went this past weekend and the MOODY BLUES were totally AWESOME- They still play and sing as they did mucho years ago. We had a ball and so did everyone around us. One added comment: Except for Nights in White Satin, and Days of Future Past, everyone stayed in their seats with an occasionally up and down. And why I ask you, because it was not a show the younger crowd would normally go to, except my children who always loved the Moody Blues. So congratulations on your 50th !!! Yahoo !!!

Seeing the Moody Blues for the 4th time in my life was not disappointing. The biggest disappointment was losing Ray Thomas back in 2002 due to health issues, and who has since passed away. He was a showman, along with a fabulous voice and flutist. The first half of the show had them doing hits from other albums and they sounded "ok." I think it was more the sound system and/or the mixing that made their voices sound a bit "muffled." Then there was a 20-minute intermission and, when they came back to perform "Days of Future Passed," they had "canned" music (they did not have an orchestra with them). Surprisingly enough, they pulled it off beautifully! What I did notice was that Graeme Edge didn't do the speaking vocals (they had Jeremy Irons recite them). That led me to wonder of the health of Graeme Edge (after all he's 76). You can also tell that he didn't do any of the "heavy" drumming (if he did any at all). Their encore had folks up on their feet and it was a great way to spend an evening - with family, with memories, with a group with such a history as the Moody Blues!

The Moody Blues - we have seen them over a dozen times but this 50th anniversary concert brought home to us that the guys just don't have what it takes anymore sadly. My husband and I are both musicians and could hear how off the vocals were throughout the whole night. Justin Hayward's guitar playing is still very good, Graham can barely play the drums anymore and the whole thing just brought home to us that these gents are in their 70s and it's really time to call it a day after this tour. It pains me to write this but I have to tell it as I heard it. The second half of the concert was better than the first half presumably the guys voices had a chance to warm up and it was wonderful to hear the Days of Future Passed album with the backing tracks which gave a much fuller sound . The Moody Blues have given so much joy and pleasure over their musical careers and as a fellow Brit I wanted them to be great still . The second half of the concert was better than the first half presumably the guys voice is had a chance to warm up. I am thrilled that they finally made the Hall of Fame. However their voices can no longer sustain any long notes or the vocal harmonies for which they also well known. Growing old happens to us all, and they had amazing careers. But knowing when to quit is a great blessing also. Rest in peace Ray Thomas you were an amazing musician.

The HardRock in Hollywood Florida was packed last Wednesday with Moody Blues fans that love their music. Gorgeous Photos of the band were flashing across the screens while beautiful colors rocked with their music. Ray Thomas, who recently pasted away, was depicted with pride and love ( photos of his long career with Moody s flashed on the screens in the background) The band received many standing ovations -We didn t want the concert to end. The first set was full of Moody Blues classics like Isn't life strange, I know you re out there somewhere , Ride my See Saw just to name a few. The second part of the show featured the complete album Days of Future Past with John Lodge dedicating the show to Ray Thomas beloved past member who will always be remembered for his beautiful personality, his talented flute, the songs he wrote and for beginning a wonderful human being! Great music with all the hits, plus DOFP set. Younger drummer was awesome; Graeme Edge was not as engaged and it was obvious that he was letting the younger drummer take the lead. Can't say as I blame him - after all Graeme is 76 and I'm sure his arms aren't as robust as they once were, where he can really bang out a set. Being a drummer is very physical. Other than that, both sets were good. Justin and John are both great front men. Justin's range is still there and his guitar playing is right up there. Flute player replacement for Ray Thomas was also awesome. The only thing I wish they had was a live orchestra accompaniment vs. the recorded tracks.

It was hot and Baltimore City (scary) but once we were in our seats, it was a good show. Not bad at all considering how old these guys are. My boyfriend was so excited. We didn't have the closest seats, but they were close enough and not on the lawn. It was only annoying toward the end where everyone was standing as I am a short person and couldn't really see the last few songs they performed.

The Moody Blues can still sing, despite the fact that they are all at least 70 now. And they performed as though they really wanted to be there, despite the unbearable heat. It was a memorable show, and one that I would see again if it's at an indoor venue. The second half of the show was the Days of Future Passed album. The band did the best that they could, considering the fact that it was in an outdoor tented pavilion, and it was over 90 degrees with high humidity. The concert started at 8:00 but even still, we all sweated like pigs. One woman collapsed on the way back to her car from the heat. As for the venue, I'm not sure I'll attend another concert there. It's open (under a big top) and there are support poles that can block your view. In addition, you're at the mercy of the weather. Now I know why the end of row seats sell out so quickly. The seats are at the same elevation so when inconsiderate people decide to stand during the show, you either must also stand, or miss the show! If your seat is at the end, the event crew will let you stand off to the side, as long as you are near your seat, and not 50 feet closer, etc. We had three guys in front of us who either yakked during the entire show, or stood and waved their arms around. We later discovered that they were off-duty toll cops. Their behavior really dampened our experience.

They were wonderful and still sound fantastic even after all these years. If you have a chance to see them, do it while you still can. Justin Hayward's voice continues to be clear and strong.

There aren't enough stars or superlatives for this band. My favorites since the 60s, the Moodies never disappoint. Their music is absolutely thrilling. Their creativity unprecedented and unmatched. Their masterful execution of every note of every song, from melancholy ballads to high-energy rock . . . well, as I mentioned earlier;- there are not enough superlatives! This 50th Anniversary Tour was possibly the pinnacle of their career, but I do believe (and sincerely hope) that the Moodies have a lot of years of performing ahead of them. The greatest living rock band. Peace, Love & Moody Blues Forever!

My wife and I have been seeing the Moody Blues for years. Mostly at Westbury Music Fair and Jones Beach Theatre. This show at Jones beach provided the best sound. Perfect. And their performance, as always, right on. We will enjoy seeing them for as long as they continue to tour.

These guys continue to amaze me, they sound so great. It's a crime that they are still not in rock and roll hall of fame. They have some of the best albums of the 60's-80's, and some of the most iconic and famous songs. They continue to tour after 50 years together. They have sold over 80 million albums! Did they piss someone off at R and R hall of fame? Is the hall waiting for them to die?? Come on, much lesser and less significant groups have been inducted. RIDICULOUS!!

I went to both the July 6 and July 7th Moody Blues Days of Future Passed concerts in Toronto. These two concerts included a symphony orchestra in the half of the concert devoted to performing the Days of Future Passed album in it's entirety. The first half of the concert was composed of their greatest hits. Both concerts were filmed for a video release. Two of original band members, Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas who performed and composed songs for Days of Future Passed have left the band. The remaining members did Mike and Ray's songs proud and backing musician Norda Mullen's flute was spot on. The Moodies always give their all and watching them perform the entire Days of Future Passed Album with a symphony Orchestra was amazing. The symphony Orchestra was exclusive to the two Toronto Concerts.

In this tour, they changed up their set list, as part of their tribute to Days of Future Passed. In the first half, they loaded up on most of their big-time hits. After the intermission, they did Days of Future Passed. Their encore songs were Question abd Ride My See Saw. I think the change in set list energized them. Hayward's vocals sounded 20 years younger.

Sound was great, singing was great thanks to backup by flutist. Still amazing after 50 years. Not a lot of patter from band maybe due to 20 minute rain delay.

I can't think of how many times I've seen the Moody Blues, they are certainly in my Top 5. When tickets went on sale for the 50th Anniversary of their seminal "Days of Future Passed" album, I bought tickets for my wife and 2 of my sons who love their music. In their 70's now, Justin Hayward and John Lodge's voices are still in great shape, although you could see the strain setting in towards the end of the almost 2 hours of music they played. The first half of the concert was dedicated to a collection of their hits. Their choice was a fine collection of some of their finest songs although I would have liked to hear more songs from their earliest work. The second half(after an extended intermission due to a severe thunderstorm that passed through) was amazing, hearing and seeing the entire Future Passed album performed live was something my sons and I will always remember. I don't know how long the group will be performing, but you don't want to miss seeing them live.

In 1970, I heard my first Moody Blues song, I Never Thought I'd Get To Be A Million. Wow! I thought. This band is very different than the Motown Bands, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones that I was so use to listening to. But I loved them! And would I ever dreamed then that I would be watching them perform 47 years later? Let me tell you. They put on a spectacular show at a jam-packed Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis, MN last Tuesday in front of four generations of fans, mainly baby-boomers as old as in their 80s. I especially loved when The Moody Blues performed and sang through their "Days Of Future Passed" album. I also loved their other hit songs that they played as well. Overall, this was my 10th Moody Blues concert that I attended and enjoyed. My first one was in July 1986. I can tell you that they were very inspiring and have not lost a beat despite the band members were now in their 70s. I hope to see them again soon at a future concert. Perhaps a 50th Anniversary "Question Of Balance" Tour will come in 2020. Near the end of their concert, I kiddingly shouted, "How about another 50 years?"

This show was worth it alone to hear the never before performed songs by Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas, Dawn Is A Feeling, The Afternoon, and Evening. John Lodge's Peak Hour was also a standout. They also do a nice set of hits in the first set. It's amazing that this is the 50th anniversary of DFP and the boys are still looking good and healthy. With sampled Melotron they can really capture the sound of the "Classic 7"

There was a heat wave (no ones fault) but the venue was not prepared for so many seniors in that heat. They kept us in the sun for over an hour - nothing on the tickets about when the gates would open. I heard some got hauled off in an ambulance. Then the Moody Blues started an hour after the posted start time at least we were inside and I got a shady spot. When they finally started it was ok but that's all. The performance seemed lackluster and uninspired. Some of the voices were very off from the beautiful smooth performances of the past. That could easily be overlooked if there was some zest but I didn't hear any. Then to top it off there was some 20ish girl who was with what appeared to be the band's road crew right in front of us on the lawn. While it was funny to watch her vie for attention by doing handstands in a mini skirt, she was in the way and annoying as only an insecure child can be. Oh well, it wasn't terrible and the tickets were priced just right.

Wow. I saw The Moody Blues about 20 years ago and don't believe they came close to @ Ironstone Vinyards Amphitheater on June 18th. 2017. They brought together influences of the British Invasion, complex and melodic orchestral waves, and sheer memorable Rock n' Roll. They've kept themselves in incredible vocal and physical shape and sang & played from the heart. It was a warm & beautiful evening - and one that I'll never forget!...

I've seen the Moody Blues a number of times over the past 40 years, and this concert was their absolute best. In the past I've always thought that the sound and their vocals weren't always up to par, but they obviously polished all the edges before going on this tour because their singing and playing was just spot on. They sounded better than they ever did in the 70s.

The aesthetics of the stage set was classy as was the outfits of all performers. Video background 'light show's was superb with an appropriate graphics as well as the video outtakes. Amazing singing from all with nary a flat note especially considering the age of these original group. I will attend their concert again if they are close to town.

Amazing doesn't even begin to cover it. I was up on my feet and rocking out like I was twenty again. To hear them again, to see them was wonderful. The visual behind the stage of all the photos through the years, including Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder, was poignant and unforgettable. My only complaint - my ONLY complaint - was that they didn't perform the song that the tour was named for. Fly Me High was not done. I've never heard that song done in concert and when I saw that the tour was called that, I was so excited. But then the song wasn't done.
