Al Jarreau is a rare and wonderful talent that comes along once in a lifetime. I've been a fan since his first album "We Got By". He touched my soul from the very beginning and will always hold a special place in my musical heart. I would have given 5 stars but he teased me by talking about his first album and he even spoke some of the lyrics to one of his most prolific songs and the title of the first album but didn't sing anything from it. I need to see him again with the hope of hearing him sing something from his first.....nothing but Love YOU Mr. Jarreau.

Listening to Al Jarreau's CDs cannot come close to a live performance in New York. I was totally mensmerized by his voice. He performed many of my favorites that touched my heart. He took the time to reminisce about his career through the years. I truly felt that I was in this love together. Al Jarreau exceeded my expectations of what a night at the Blue Note should be like. Just fantastic!!!!!

I really enjoyed this show and thought Jeffery Osborne gave the performance of a lifetime. Al Jarreau was simply his outstanding self and wowed his audience like always.
Al was great in the eighties but unfortunately is past his prime. I liked his band more than his vocals. Sorry

Great show. Al Jarreau is a wonderful singer and performer. Older, a bit unsteady, but still a magnificent voice, stylist, and spirit. Fabulous, funky, jazzy band. Long set, too! Left Town Hall on a cloud of musical positivity.

My husband and I saw Al Jarreau Wednesday evening and once again, at 74 years of age, he never ceased to provide one of the most top quality jazz and R&B concerts on the planet. Having seen Mr. Jarreau perform many times since 1990 and in many different venues, my heart was singing and yearning for more, just like always. What a night and what a charming man!

I saw the promo for the Al Jarreau concert at the McCoy Center very late. The last time I had seen Mr. Jarreau in concert was in the early '80s. The remaining tickets were in the last row on the floor. McCoy Center is an excellent venue, and the tickets were good. Mr. Jarreau has been performing for over 50 years, he has health issues, but the performance was as strong as ever. The band was his and looked like they were having a great time. Three cheers for Al Jarreau, his band and the McCoy Center.

This is one of my favorite concerts ever. I've loved Al's music since 1980 when I first saw him live. He continues to sing beautifully and is a joy to hear. He engaged the audience and it felt like he truly enjoyed the evening himself. Jeffrey was amazing - his vocals were perfect and he had the entire crowd on their feet for much of his set. I would go to this concert again anytime - simply the best.

Jeffrey Osborne opened the show....that should change. He should close the show, because Al Jarreau has "lost it". What I mean by that is Al Jarreau is frail, and lacking stage presence. His voice is weak. He is difficult to hear when "vocalizing" and unable to reach notes (heard/sung in the past). On the other hand......Jeffrey Osborne held the audience in the palm of his hand. He commanded the stage, lots of energy. He included the crowd in sing-a-longs(not usually my favorite "thing" as I don't attend live shows to hear the audience sing....) but he was so charismatic and entertaining.

When I told friends I was going to see Al Jarreau, the response most given was "That's cool. He's still alive?" The answer is a resounding "yes". It's hard to believe that Mr. Jarreau has been at it for 50+ years. His voice and performance were amazing, and the only sign of his age was some difficulty he had getting around. The song selection, the fantastic band, and most of all, Al's connection to the audience and the material, made it a very special night. And then, after catching our collective breath, Jeffrey Osborne came out and lit it up with a great set, including a few trips into the audience. He also hasn't lost a thing as far as that great voice. I might have liked to hear some more of his solo stuff (he really focused on LTD), but it was fantastic. If you have a chance to go see either or both of these icons, do it! Also, they both have new albums out that are phenomenal. (Yes, I said albums.)

I would definitely recommend the Capital Jazz Festival to any Jazz/R&B/Soul music lover. The talent line up was great and there was a nice variety of food and crafts during breaks. I was pleasantly surprised by how helpful the venue staff members were. I purchased 3-day passes and one of my seats was broken. Although they were unable to fix my seat, they immediately relocated us each night to much better seats. :-) The only drawback to the 3-Day Pass is that they give you the same seat each night. So you have to get them really early. I could have gotten better seats by purchasing tix for each night individually. I bought tix for friends on a single night and they were better than the seats that I had for the 3-Day Pass.

This is my 5th year attending the Jazz Fest at Merriweather and the line up of artists continues to be examplary. I had a friend who attended for the first time this year and she said that this festival was far better than Hampton's and that she will change venues and attend Merriweather from now on. The layout has gotten better over the years, although tents are no longer allowed on the main lawn. That took some getting use to, but I believe that it adds to everyone's enjoyment since tents often blocked the views and pathways of others. The food and retail vedors are diverse and plentiful...overall good time. My only complaint for this years was the horrible mud. Since it rained on the days preceding the festival, there was nothing that could have been done about "Mother Nature"; however, I believe that Merriweather could have done a better job of laying down straw in highly traveled areas. There did not appear to be a great deal of effort displayed. I look forward to next year's festival at Merriweather...hopefully the venue will not change.

Al's performance was just as stunning as the first time that we saw him at the Greek Theater at UC Berkeley over 30 years ago! It was heart breaking to see how badly his physical health has deteriorated but his performance was as strong if not stronger than that of a 30 year old man. His last performance in Lake Tahoe was 1994 and I strongly believe that he will not return.

As Al is helped out onto the stage and takes his seat at the microphone, one is reminded of the passage of time. Al likes to tell the audience that age has taken his legs, his hair and his eyes, but he still has his throat. How true that is. It was a delight to spend a couple of hours with the greatest jazz singer of our age. His band is extraordinary. The overall performance and aura of the evening was completely positive and upbeat. Al entertains with fantastic renditions of his own classics and the work of others. The audience is caught up in his infectious optimism and the obvious love for what he does: entertain us with his voice. I feel blessed to have been able to spend the evening together.

Al Jarreau is an amazing musician. I enjoyed listening to him hit high and low notes, basked in the playfulness of his spirit, and relished his musicianship. However, he was often drowned out by his musicians. Also he sang very few of his amazing ballads. Why did he sing that Harry Belofante Reggie cutesy tune? He could have sung any one of his wonderful ballads. I left craving more, much more.

Al Jarreau was second act although billed as main act. He was awesome. It had been a moment since I saw him perform. He has been through a stroke and surgeries, but the voice is still amazing. He is a very humble person. It brought tears to my eyes hearing him thanking the audience for coming to see him. He was overcome with emotion His spirit is great as well as inspiring. He gave a great, memorial, and emotional concert. Jeffery Osbourne was good, this is my third time seeing his same performance. His voice remains strong and distinct.

Regina, Al, and Jeffrey were amazing! I know that Regina was an add on but it would have been so nice if she too had a set with her own band. I would go see each one of the artist separately in concert (already saw Jeffrey last year at the Venue). The only reason I gave it 4 vs 5 is because I felt like they had to be rushed in order for the show to end on time. I wanted more!! I understand there are time limits and when it's time to go you gotta go. I would definitely go see all the artist again. Fantastic Concert!!

The concert was great. We wished Angela Winbush could have performed more than two songs as she has may more hits than that and her voice is outstanding. Al Jarreau did not disappoint in his performance and he was just warming up when his time on stage was up. Jeffrey Osborne was so energetic and his voice has not changed and he delivered wonderfully.

Good show, all in all. They gave Angela Winbush a sad 15 minutes. What was the point of that? And her dancers were garbage. Yikes. She sang 1.5 songs, spent a good amount of time proving that 60 is not old by 'dropping it like it's hot' (a bit overdone), and leaning on some poor younger gentleman she brought onto the stage. I think it was her attempt at being sexy, but my husband felt all the leaning was because she was just tired. Tomato, tomatoe. Al Jarreau was great, but it was very sad to see him come out on a cane. He started his set with 'Morning' *swoon*, and took the audience on a ride with his vocal/skat/beatbox like thing he does. Pure jazz. Jeffery Osbourne turned out to be my fav, which was unexpected. I had kind of forgotten all the hits he had with LTD, and he visited ALL of them. I thoroughly enjoyed that trip down memory lane. At one point he took off his shirt (yes .. he did) to reveal his tightie undershirt. No matter, just a bit off-putting. Especially since he couldn't get his cufflinks off and it took him like 5 minutes. Sigh.

Wow! I am surprised at some of Al Jarreau's fans. I was happy just to see him on stage. I can still hear the youth of his voice through each powerful word he sings .I myself was unable to see AL in his younger days but I was blessed to be able to see him a year ago. He is a Legend such as B.B. King and a lot of others. I cried when I went to his concert because I never thought I would ever get the chance to see such a talented singer and Jazz musician such as his self. No he's not going to be as good as he was in his 20's or 30's etc... no one is, but I respect him for the wonderful music that made millions of people feel good from the inside out No matter how old, Always respect how far the legend came and where they are today. Keep on keeping on Al, You are one of the best and your a legend. Keep on giving us all that you have until you have no more to give. God Bless!!!

David Sanborn still has it. He definitely jammed out. However, Al Jarreau is showing his age. He could barely walk on stage. His voice is weak. It's time for Al to retire, he can't hit the notes anymore.

David Sanborn opened for Al Jarreau and played a good number of his most popular songs (I believe about 6-8 in all). He also told a few stories and joked with the audience. Couldn't have asked for much more. Even came back for an encore. It's difficult to separate Al Jarreau the singer from Al Jarreu the person and songwriter. He is such a personality and favorite of mine that I find it difficult to report that his voice was gone on the night of the performance. His backup group/ singers had to carry him through the entire evening. I just hope it was a bad night or a cold or something but I would really hesitate before seeing Al in person again.

Al Jarreau is too old to perform live. He could barely stand without assistance. His voice is gone, covered up by a track playing in the background or backup singers singing lead over him. He is one of my all time favorite singers, and it is sad that they are selling tickets to see a shell of a great performer.

Al and Marcus were great. Al Jarreau has got jokes, see him if you can, it's like two shows in one. What can I say about Marcus, just unbelievable. Hear him playing Jekyll and Hyde blew me away.

Al Jarreau was excellent, and Jeffrey Osborne was electrifying. Al wowed us with with the magnificent sound of voice and his animations, while Jeffrey wooed us with his sultry voice and his exciting stage presentation. Both artists; not just entertainers; are in a separate class all of their own. Norfolk, VA folks that evening did not regard nor elevated the kind of jazz and/or music Al brings to the table, but a few of us who appreciate Al and his music did. However, I have loved Al and his music since first listening to him in 1977 at the age of 16, I have always wanted to experience a concert of this magnitude where Al Jarreau was the leading artist, he was our main focus, and the reason why we attended the concert in the first place. Nevertheless, Jeffrey was a pleasant surprise. But Al was so inspiring, and his gleaming spirit was exuberant. My husband and I are following his tours, especially paying attention to when he close enough to where we reside so that we can attend. We took pictures, that we hope, if the Heavenly Father willing, will treasure for many years to come. My husband and I are struck on Al Jarreau. Wow!, what a performance
