CHVRCHES

CHVRCHES IN CONCERT:Scottish electronic trio CHVRCHES are masters of contrast, juxtaposing the fragile, ethereal voice of frontwoman Lauren Mayberry with the fierce, synth-heavy bombast of the band's music. At their live shows, CHVRCHES compliments their beautifully austere compositions with state-of-the-art lighting, creating an all-out feast for the senses that marries technological savvy with organic sensibility. Whether they're performing originals like "The Mother We Share" or covering Prince's "I Would Die For You," You", the band's pulsing electronic sounds will have fans dancing the night away on their upcoming tour dates. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:CHVRCHES formed in Glasgow, Scotland in late 2011, releasing their debut single "The Mother We Share" a year later to critical fanfare.

Seeing this at Radio City made all of the difference. The venue was sold out but we had our own seats so it wasn't like a giant mosh. Drinks served the entire time, unlike past times I've been at Radio City, so that was a plus. Concert was fun, people were cool, band was great!

On a quaint and comfortable overcasted Sunday in June Chvrches took to the stage in front of a SELL OUT crowd of 966 excited, yet well mannered people in Boston's Famous Paradise Rock Club. As 9:15 P.M approached lights slowly dimmed into darkness and altered audio of Prince vocals slowly and deeply played through the sound system. "Dearly beloved We are gathered here today 2 get through this thing called life" The speakers echoing Price show the strong admiration and influence Prince has on Chvrches. "Electric word life It means forever and that's a mighty long time But I'm here 2 tell u There's something else The afterworld" Cool lights of blue and green illuminate the shadows of Chvrches reading to enter stage. "A world of never ending happiness U can always see the sun, day or night" As Prince's words fade out into the darkness a warm red glow of lights hits stage and out comes the band Chvrches. At center stage a spotlight reveals a stunning Lauren Mayberry grabbing hold of the mic and displaying her signature touch; 80s influenced eyeliner over her left eye wearing a simple red patterned dress flowing along side with her brilliantly minded bearded band members. Martin Doherty bleeds out strong youthful energy at stage right jumping and pounding his feet to the beat in a grunge style black and red checkerboard flannel with fitted baseball cap wearing it 90s style. Claming stage left with syntheziers galore is the casually cool Chvches t-Shirted genius Iain Cook. Mayberry forcefully yet adorably begins to burst out with opening song "Lies", "Faster, faster you won't go far". You cannot help, but look and admire how beautiful Mayberry is in person as this young intelligent woman cries out words of hurt with an addictive strong and electric pulsating beat flow that feels wonderful. Mayberry's voice is pleasantly spot on and the music sounds as though you were in studio, but with the pleasure of the live vibes a live show offers. Clearly Mayberry appears more confident than earlier shows from a year ago, but she does reference a strange stage set up where she needs to look and dance in a odd 180 direction, no fault on the band here as this is the Paradise's staging. Doherty and Cook's bodies roll out to the addicting rhythms of sound encompassing the empty black walls of the Paradise as though they are the music themselves. As the song builds the crowd is moving arms and bobbing heads in unison taking the wonderful sound waves in for all they are worth. Some people choose to be to cool for school at first. Not moving much at a Chvrches show has become part of the Chvrches audience in the past including the most recent West coast portion of the tour, but Boston is not a laid back city by any means and being fashionably late to a show and not moving at all is about as popular in Boston as being Dane Cook. As the last beat belts out a surprising roar rings out beginning the start of a new relationship love feast with Chvrches and the city of Boston. As the crowds (made up of a solid balance of different ages in both men, women with different ethnics indicated Chvrches reach to multiple demographics) reaction hits Chvches for the first time the band members glance at one another with eyes a little wider and suttle yet obvious smiles cascade from Cook, Mayberry and Doherty. The authentic boisterous Bostionian reaction is what a band as talented as Chvrches deserves and the Pardise being so small in stature helps capture that reaction to the fullest. Of course the Paradise has hosted many, now famous, bands that were making their first appearances in United States such as U2. Being nestled firmly within the Boston Universtey Campus and just a quick 15 minute Subway Ride from the likes of Harvard University, Emerson College, Boston College & many other Campuses make it the Paradise the perfect venue for young educated diverse audiences to attend. In return many up and coming bands who have come from other parts of the globe will be pleasantly surprised to receive warm welcoming Irish and Scottish transplant cheers. The excitement and passion for the music from the UK is always welcomed in New England. These groups from over the pond will point out that Boston gives them a feeling of being home. This was indicated by Mayberry after Lie's stated a "Warm and Collective Response" and that it was the Bands first time in Boston to recieve a roar in return. Next performance was "We Sink" which touches on near perfection with all three band members belting out vocals at the end. As the night went on with songs such as "Now is Not The Time" and Recover fresh from there only available ITunes Download EP in the US Mayberry announced the September 24th release of Chvrches much anticipated Album and followed it up with the new single, "Gun". Gun is an incredible mix with catchy vocals that is hard to not want more. Clearly this band has much more to offer and ending the show with the hit "Mother We Share" gives Chvrches the unique opportunity to reach wide audiences on the the Depeche Mode leg of there tour and do national TV shows such as Jimmy Fallon. Although Chvrches has only been a band for a short time it is evedent that a certain kind of magic has been concocted with these three and the strength after the sounds in live preformance lies in Chvrches switching things up between Mayberry and Doherty a little more doing a couple songs at lead vocal as well. This is when the band is at its top sharing the stage with each other and allowing different tones in both sound and vocals to be heard. At $15 per ticket you cannot help, but truly want more. They may not be a head liner and some would argue they are too green to Tour as such, but fans should be looking forward to this group breaking down the industry walls and reaching the other side with enormous success in the future.

Highly disappointed that CHVRCHES played just a short set, and they didn't have the energetic stage presence I thought they'd have. Also, they didn't perform half of their songs. I still had fun, but I won't see them again unless they magically improve.

Amazing time. Nights like this remind me why I love music & continue coming to live shows. Lauren Mayberry sounded great live; she's even more adorable & quirky in person. She has this awkward, cute stage presence to her that I loved haha. Shouout to the Fonda personnel for being on top of their game & super efficient w/ the line situation. I had my drinking & show wrist bands before I even got up to the entrance to get searched. Very efficient & smooth.

he opening band apparently had passport issues and couldn't get into the country so everyone waited 90 minutes for the headliner. A DJ was playing a cool mix but wasn't on the stage. When Chvrches finally did come on they were excellent sounded great! The crowd was definitely into them as well. They played all of their material plus a solid cover of Prince's 'I Would Die 4 U'! The venue seemed pretty clean. The selection was nice. They had separate lines per gender but it didn't really slow the speed of getting into the venue. Though the venue had sponsorship for monster, I got a small can of monster for 3 dollars which I found to be overpriced. Performance: Mansionair had great lights and the audio inside was rich with bass which was nice. The treble was clear. Chvrches had a great sound as well. There were setup issues but overall the experience was positive and absolutely acceptable. I'm looking forward to my next visit to the LC.

This trio is absolute perfection live, putting on an awesome show that I won't soon forget. I had seen their final show at Terminal 5, and they didn't miss a beat despite their seemingly non-stop tour schedule. Truly great in their live set, the energy was thick and crisp as were the signature synths and sounds of what makes CHVRCHES what they are, lead vocalist Lauren was amazing and the band's interaction and discussions in between song sets are very unique in that they connect to the audience in a very intimate way that allows us to see that not only are they great as a band, but also as individuals.

Chvrches rocked the SOLD OUT house! This band is touring really hard and it's an amazement to see the energy they displayed live throughout their set, even considering for example that they play NYC one night, drive down to PA for a gig the next day and then drive right after that gig back to NYC that same evening! Seeing them play live reaffirms why this band rocks and sells out their tour stops. Keep rockin' guys!

Chvrches rocked the house like a rock show. The show started out with the normal headbobs, but after a few songs, the crowd was singing along and cheering on the band, as everyone was impressed how good they sounded live. The set was short (they don't have that many songs). I can't wait to see them grow their set and as a band.

CHVRCHES were absolutely incredible. They started right at 9, which was early, no opening acts. Got there as they went on and with the line for wristbands I missed the first song. Bummer. Glad I got there when I did because I didn't assume they would go on til ten or so. There was a bit of a venue change, I suppose due to the unforeseen popularity of the band, having surprised Granada owners months before with a sold out show. The sound was great from most spots in the venue but at one point I found myself directly victim to the subs, which is fantastic for experience and as long as you don't fancy taking a video with your iPhone, they were just so powerful that the noise from the vibration was often louder than the music itself. They played their entire discography as far as I could tell, the one full length album, and encored for a last dazzling number. I giggled like a school girl for the entirety of the event. Well, when I wasn't while heartedly singing along. :)

This was my first time attending a concert that wasn't a set of DJ's at a rave or a tiny backyard jam session. I can't convey how spectacular this show was.... I've been warned that performers don't necessarily sound exactly like how they do on their albums/EPs/ studio recorded tracks, but to my pleasant surprise, CHVRCHES sounded 10000x better than I could have ever imagined them. I wish I knew exactly what to say - actually... it can all be explained thoroughly of the experience I felt if you just attend their show. They're rising rapidly to the limelight in the US; indulge while you can afford the tickets! x

Pros: Chvrches rocked a great concert and will see again next time they're in town. Cons: Opening band was painful to listen to. Guitar wasn't too shabby but vocals was blah and lead singer had the personality of cardboard. I'd recommend parking as close to Echostage as possible (bottom line pay the extra for it) the lots that are 0.1 miles away are very sketchy, darkly lit and you should probably be carrying a gun.

CHVRCHES are a band that I've been following for a while - their music is so well-done and manages to be both complex and accessible. For me, personally, they have been one of my favorite bands since college and it was so exciting to finally see them live. They completely exceeded my expectations. The music, vocals, and light show were all perfectly in sync. They really knew how to engage a crowd, and they had really great stage presence. Whoever did the visuals deserves every award possible. Also, I could listen to Lauren just talking about her life forever. Echostage as a venue was really great too. Very good acoustics, and there was plenty of standing room for a sold out show. My only complaint was that my shorter friends were at a disadvantage and really couldn't see over the crowd. I don't think that can be helped, hahaha.

Greeaaat show if only just for the experience to watch CHvrches do their thing. The production of lights... incredible. Visually the experience was just as great as the live performance. Can I go back to that night? Also, Lauren Mayberry made us laugh that night. It was awesome. One of the top rated shows I've been too. Also, I just really love Radio city music hall, there really aren't any "bad" seats. The only thing that affects the experience whatever venue, is if you are short and have someone taller sitting/standing in front of you. Luckily for me during the Chvrches show, the woman in front of me sat low in her seat. Sat smack dab in the middle 1st mez, second row.

I really love these events that CD102.5 puts on. My only complaint is that two bands were put in the A+R music bar AND it overlapped the times on the main stage. So when Maybird started playing, the A+R was packed, but about halfway through their act, most of the crowd left to see the main stage. It was embarrassing. Thus 4 stars instead of 5. I know they were pressed for time, but would have been nice to start the event an hour earlier or perhaps put the lousy local band in the A+R bar instead of the main stage. The local band was awful. Normally they pick good local bands. So on a positive note, all the bands were great. Frank Turner especially was awesome. I will see him again. Chvrches and Jake Bugg were great as expected. Maybird was awesome. I didn't get to see the Greeting Commitee due to overlapping acts, but hope to see them another time. Bleached was a fun band to watch too. So great job at selecting the acts, CD102.5.. Can't wait for the next event!

Chvrches was amazing!!! They sounded great and had the crowd singing and jumping with the beat of the music. I found the crowd to be fun but pretty respectful. While everyone was jumping around and having fun, I wasn't pushed, stepped on, elbowed or kicked at this venue like I have been at some others. The front row was close to the stage and Martin even stepped out closer to the crowd during his songs. I came in from out of town to attend the concert at this venue and I would definitely do so again.

I love Chvrches. This was my first time seeing them and I'm going to continue going to there shows when their around. Lauren Mayberry is funny, talking to the crowd in between songs and her singing is incredible. If you like their music than go see it live.

Lauren is an awesome performer, really engaging and fun to watch. Loved that she'd take a couple minutes between a few songs to talk to the audience. She's a tough act to follow, but Martin was great to watch for his songs too.

Perfect evening. Ate dinner at Hopscotch, followed by outstanding and energetic performance by Chvrches. Lauren Mayberry was hysterical and insightful as always. The band was tight and the Fox Theater is a great venue.

Great show and venue! Like any place, the alcohol was too expensive, but I don't see that changing.

This concert is, hands down, one of the best shows I've ever been too (and trust me, I've seen everyone under the sun). The energy was enthralling and the singers were indescribably brilliant. It's a fun show to watch and be a part of and I'll never miss another performance for as long as the group stays together. Excellent show!

CHVRCHES. Oh my gosh! All three members gave their all! Lauren was dressed like Edward Scissorhands and it was just spectacular! The lights, the sound, their performance! Martin came out from behind his keyboard setup and sang Under the Tide to all of us in one of the most unforgettable concert moments I can remember. If you like CHVRCHES, you definitely missed a show! And if you were present, Bless you for having been a witness! I can't wait for them to come back to the Tampa Bay area!! They are amazing and I will recommend that everyone go to see them.

I'm still on a Chvrches high from the October 31st show! I drove from Fort Lauderdale all the way to St. Petersburg just to see them and it was definitely worth it. Great sound, great effects, over all great performance. Lauren looked impeccably awesome dressed as Edward Scissorhands for Halloween. Her voice is just as beautiful live as in the recordings! I also loved that they interacted with the audience by talking with us. To tie to the Halloween theme Lauren even threw candy to the audience. I actaully caught a lollipop that I may never eat...

They had us wait a total of 2 hours for the bands to come out at Jannus in St. Petersburg, FL. I don't know why it happened, but it was extremely inefficient. The band, however, was absolutely amazing, performing great and interacting with the crowd in between songs The opening act, Mansionair, was incredible too.

Chvrches is my favorite band in 30 yrs., so yes I'm biased. I would consider their shows as "must see". This one - just like the show three nights later in St. Pete - was as high energy as it gets. Martin, Iain, and Lauren bring the crown up and down on a emotional roller coaster (mainly up) like no band around right now. Fantastic evenings at both shows - you will not be disappointed. We will see them a minimum of probably three times the next time they hit the US. Just can't get enough (I'm sure you get the reference)... A complaint? They have a pleasant problem already in that the first two releases were so good that they already have too many really fantastic songs to play. "Down side of me" and "Follow You" didn't make the cut to be played - and they are my favorites on Every Open Eye. At both venues, I thought the building(s) were going to explode from the energy of Clearest Blue - I've never seen a crowd lose their collective minds (at BOTH places) when it transitioned...unbelievable. Just...go.

I really enjoyed the show by CHVRCHES at HoB Orlando. They're not necessarily one of my top bands but I like what they do and so was just at the show to enjoy some live music. I compare them a bit to genre-mates Purity Ring, who I also saw a few weeks back. CHVRCHES is definitely more friendly than Purity Ring, often bantering with the crowd. Purity Ring tends to go more for mystique, and don't do an encore for some reason. Aside from what looked like a brief technical glitch (which the lead singer filled in by chattering about her favorite Halloween costumes) the show was very nice, with an excellent overall performance

Chvrches provided a wonderful performance of most of the tracks from their two albums. The energy was high the whole time and frontwoman Lauren Mayberry is definitely coming into her own as a singer. Great job!

Lauren was fun and energetic. Her voice was perfect and her stage performance is a blast to watch. Iain was technically flawless, but didn't seem to be too interested in connecting with the crowd most of the time. It was cool when he did, though. Martin seemed to have a great time and was very dynamic in the one song he did perform. Lauren seemed happy with the crowd, which was fun. No one was a jerk to her, which was welcome. Only complaint is that the volume for both Mansionair and CHVRCHES was too loud for the venue. I had my concert earplugs in and could barely stand it at times. Lots of folks were commenting on it and all the security folks were unhappy and said after that it was the loudest they've ever heard.

It's always great when the band sounds like they're album, but it's truly unforgettable when they sound BETTER than their album. The acoustics at Uptown Theater were phenomenal, and you were literally brought into each song. Album favorites like Clearest Blue, Gun, Recover, Keep You On My Side (I could go on forever) were amplified to the Nth degree. A must see show, and who doesn't want to listen to Lauren for an hour and a half.

Chvrches was authentic and energetic! They took the time to chat with the crowd in between every few songs. They shared their experiences in the Detroit area and just random every day happenings. It was refreshing to hear someone actually "talk" to you versus the robotic " youre my biggest crowd, Detroit has the best fans," line feeders. Chvrches did an impressive amount of songs too, playing from their first album and their newest sophomore one too. Their lights and images definitely completed their whole atmosphere they created too!

This is definitely a band to see live if you get the chance. Mansonair was the opening set and they were great too! I now have a new band to add to my playlists. Only thing was it took almost an hour for Chvrches to set up after the opening set. Such is life. The light show was something else. It was beautiful and went great with all the songs.

Very upbeat show. Did not know much about the band before the event but they kind of grew on me as the night went along. Not usually into computer synthesized music but the sounds they created were good and they had the crowd with them all the way. Seemed very polished and professional. Especially like the moments when they engaged the crowd. Set was really nice.

arrived late and missed the opening band but we only really wanted to see chvrches anyways. unfortunately due to arriving late and being short, we didn't see all that much of the band as the place was sold out and of course we were behind tall guys. but we could see that the light show was pretty amazing and the sound was great.

This was the 3rd time I have seen Chvrches and I think it gets better every time. They played a great show with a solid balance of their two albums. Lauren worked the crowd and Martin complimented her well as he always does. If you haven't seen them yet please do!

Amazing show - but verrrry loud. Especially the first act booming bass and infrasonic tones, hearing damage level. Also Chvuches had some loud moments, maybe because we were in the balcony and closer to the speaker banks? ...but would go back in a heartbeat!

Chvrches is out of this world. Lauren Mayberry is an iconic person with an amazing voice. Iain Cook is a genius with out of this world talent. Martin Doherty beats are sick and the way he hypes the crowd just kept us going.
