Walnut Street Theatre's Elf

Walnut Street Theatre's Elf

ELF is the charming tale of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. Buddy is raised unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, he embarks on a journey to New York City with dreams to find his birth father and discover his true identity.

I LOVED IT, I LOVED IT AND I DON'T CARE WHO KNOWS IT! The casting was exceptional, especially Buddy and Jovie. Obviously they can't do ever scene from the movie (or follow the story exactly because of that) but the important scenes were there, some scenes were combined and modified due to lack of space and time. But overall I am glad I got to see it after missing it in NYC. You must see if you love Christmas movies, especially Elf.

I loved everything about Elf. This was my first time to Walnut Street Theater and it was a very happy one at that! Granted, Christmas is my favorite time of year. So it was no surpise that I was excited about the pretty white lights, greenery and fabulous decor of the theater. It was adorable. I was excited before even walking inside. Luckily, the theater didn't make everyone stand outside like most New York City theaters do before the show. The weather was awful so this would have been a real bummer. They let everyone in to stand and walk around, purchase food, drinks and/or little trinkets. Once the doors opened, everyone began to pile into their seats. I was very pleased with our seats. We were second row on the left side. There definitely didn't appear to be a lousy seat in the place, but I was happy with where we were. I was a bit nervous with our angle...but it ended up being perfect and I had no problem with the view. Everything was right up close and personal. :o) The show itself was amazing. The cast was simply wonderful. I loved all the music and the dancing and thought it was actually really funny. I think whoever played Santa was GREAT. He was so lively and I kind of wanted to hang out with him after the show... I seriously loved everything from beginning to end and that won't be my last time at this theater!

If you are willing to not expect Will Farrell and Zooey Deschanel and a replication of the film, you are in for a treat. The cast was great and all performed wonderfully. Buddy really did shine and you pulled for him the whole way. I enjoyed the songs but did not know any as they were all original and the didn't pull anything from the film score or soundtrack. Nevertheless, my son and I had a blast. Would recommend.

A nice little theater in downtown Philly.... But that was the only positive. If you are expecting anything similar to the movie...forget it! Besides elf, elves and the name of the main characters its different. All the great moments are cut out, no bathroom song, no Miles Finch, no decorating the store a poor santa and an elf that was more of a dancer than a singer. There was no music from the original... and that was only in the first part before intermission. We left....$165 for two tickets for a production that was worse than a high school play!

I thought this would be good to take my children to see. Had language that I don't allow them to use and too much sexual inuendo toward the end. Was not needed in the play.

I was really looking forward to seeing Elf the Musical, but I was sadly disappointed. The music is uninspired. Cristopher Sutton (Buddy the Elf) has a voice that does not carry at all (even in the small venue). Their are two numbers with Buddy's mom and little brother that are excellent. Besides the funny Santa in the beginning, the two numbers I just mentioned, and one song with a multitude of Santas in a Chinese restaurant , the rest of the show is forgettable the moment you walk out of the theatre. My husband, teenage son, and tween son and daughter all agreed. Bottom line, SAVE YOUR MONEY - buy the movie instead.

Elf The musical was good, not great. A lot of the comedy was very forced. I feel as though the actors did not fully commit to their characters. Especially buddy the elf. I felt he was acting more as an annoyance than a human that grew up as an elf. The musical was very colorful and pleasing and fun. There was a surprising amount of tap numbers which was fun. Overall the musical was a good time, but nothing that blew my mind. I would have rather just watched the movie, I did not get that "holiday spirit" feeling from the show.

The performers we saw in Elf were outstanding. It was my grand daughters first trip to the theater and she loved it. At 5, she said " we have to do this every year." She spent a good deal of time explaining the story line to me. The voices of everyone is the cast were amazing. Costumes were great. It was just a really fun afternoon. Outstanding performers...can't say it often enough.

My husband and I took our 15 year old and 12 year old daughters along with my 83 year old Mom and sister. We really all enjoyed the play. It was festive and a great holiday adventure. My only concern was some of the language. There were several curse words in the play and I just don't think that they were appropriate or necessary for a play which attracts many age groups. I would prefer that my 12 year old not be exposed to curse words. I really felt that it detracted from the play.

This was the worst play experience I have ever had. We paid full price & were put in box A seats 9 & 10. We could not see the entire stage even sitting on the uncomfortable "props" that were provided. During intermission, we experienced disorganization & rude staff when trying to obtain a snack. My family & I will not go to another play here. It will be worth the drive to new York for future productions.

What an amazing show. I was worried in the beginning that this show will try too hard to match the movie, however, my suspicions were totally unfounded. This show stood on its own and never seemed like it was trying to match the movie. The show stands on it's own and the lead character has an amazing talent to keep going with tremendous energy to deliver a fantastic show!!! If I could, I would see it again with my family. Great show. I had doubts after seeing Will Ferrell in the movie that an actor could pull it off live. But I was after my five year old's enjoyment and not too concerned if it met my expectations. Think Carrie Underwood in The SOM. I expected to be underwhelmed. Well I was as wrong as can be. Great show, great actors. Elf the actor was charming, loveable, and very funny. A great show and we both loved it! Would recommend to any age group. We'll done! a 10!

We saw a matinee and we sat in the Orchestra seats. A bit pricey for a matinee. Though a family play, I don't know how a family could afford to go. The play itself was great! I saw the movie, my husband and not seen the movie and we both enjoyed it immensely. Funny thing is that, I guess I was expecting the lead actor to be really tall since he was to tower over the other "elves". Don't get me wrong.....the lead actor was EXCELLENT!!!! Highly recommend this play!

I must admit I am a bit of a theater snob. I see shows on Broadway alot. My nephew and I missed Elf The Musical in NY, when i saw it was playing in Philly I decided we would take a chance and see it there. My expectations were not very high. Boy, was I surprised. This was a wonderful production. I can't imagine it being any better on Broadway or anywhere else for that matter. The actors were all so incredibly talented.
