Lewis Black

LEWIS BLACK ON TOUR: Comedian and social critic Lewis Black is renowned for his hilariously angry face and simulated mental breakdowns. At his quick-witted live shows, Black skewers the absurdities of history, religion, and politics with impassioned rants that are as funny as they are eye-opening. Whether he's feigning befuddlement with current social trends or making light of pop culture's bloated landscape, Black has made clear that fans at his 2014 tour dates can only expect one thing: the unexpected.  SNAPSHOT BACKGROUND:A brainy kid born into a blue collar household, Lewis Black was raised in the Washington D.

I met Lewis Black outside one of the restrooms (like a normal person), and he is really nice. He may be angry on stage but he s actually very calm in real life. The show was excellent, I saw him about 6 months ago and he changed some of the material and kept some old favorites from last year. Go see him if you have the chance!

I had a great time at the Lewis Black show. His opening act was real good and Lewis himself was worth the price of the tickets. The service at the venue was also outstanding as we had an usher greet us and walk us directly to our seats. I would highly recommend Lewis Black's show and would enjoy seeing him again!!

Lewis Black is hilarious! I absolutely love his stand up! I first got hooked on him from his "Daily Show" segment "Back in Black." He definitely lived up to (and exceeded) my expectations. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a good laugh.

This man is hilarious. Anyone who has seen any of his HBO specials would know that....highly recommended and I will see him again on his next tour. The Venue (@ Horseshoe - Hammond) is an interesting place, the row designation is a little confusing but the theater itself it excellent. I'm not sure how it would fare for a rock show, but as a large comedy club it fit the bill. The view was good and the large projection screens to the left and right of the stage helped.

Lewis had the audience in the palm of his hand from the beginning and continued with a well connected train of thought and comments throughout. Several times his improvisational abilities were put to the test from a speaker malfunction to audience members "helping" him and he never missed a beat.

Lewis Black has a unique talent and perspective on current issues and has no problem voicing his opinion! As always, his views are witty and inciteful, but never mean spirited. The most important thing is the comedy was not great. There wasn t a single non-political joke. Hey I dislike Trump as much as the next person but good lord find a new topic! On top of that it was a poorly organized event. The opener started 15 mins late and then there was a 30 minute wait until Lewis came on. He talked for about 40 mins and then was done. Overall there was more waiting than actual comedy.

Lewis Black makes me laugh just by walking on stage. He is always funny. I also grateful that I am not the only one who sees how absurd so much going on around us is. I love that he reads actual news articles -- just supports how absurd we have become. Down side, did not care for the "rant" part of the show, went on too long. i paid to see Lewis Black, not some retired director of a non-profit.

First Act, 45 minutes: the warm up comedian but no Lewis. Next: long Intermission. Second act: Lewis 20 mins. of jokes and 10 mins. LIVE taking audience submitted questions. THEN HE TURNS THE REMAINDER OF THE SHOW, 20 mins. to Barry Lynn who is NOT A COMIC and is not funny but who was (a friend of Lewis'?) the recently retired Exec Dir. of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State organization. So out of the 2 hour and 45 mins. long concert Lewis performed about 30 mins. Disappointing. However the evening was saved because I was able to buy my new prized possession: a foul-mouthed screaming Lewis Black bobblehead doll at the merch table. $25.

Lewis Black is a funny dude, but if I wanted a night of political humor, I would go online for free. Don't get me wrong, it's easy to make fun of the President... But that's the problem. Anyone can (and does) do that. It's cheap and not entertaining at this point. I am just tired of hearing it. I wish the jokes would have been more well rounded.

Chairs were very small and uncomfortable and packed together very tightly. We liked the warm-up comedian better than Lewis Black. Black was okay, but every other word out of his mouth is the F-word, which gets old. It's not really that funny if that's basically all you do.

I'm not crazy about this venue, only because the floor seating is flat and not sloping like most floor venues. (I assume it's to accommodate musical acts standing room). Also, I'm still not sure about what that whole last portion of the act was about. Apparently, we were going live on line for the whole world to see. I am of the opinion, that if they wanted to see the show, they should of bought a ticket.

A really, Really, REALLY boring and uninspired performance. I have been a Lewis Black fan for years and enjoy his sharp whit, sarcasm and delivery. However, this performance was so bad, I (we) began to question his health. (He DOES mention spending time in the hospital in Ireland as part of the act. Was that several weeks/months ago or last week???) Was it a current bout with the flu? Who knows if it was health related or something else but most of the crowd picked up on it based on the "polite" applause at the conclusion and numerous quiet shoulder shrugs as people were exiting. A real disappointment.

I am a big Lewis Black fan so I could not wait to see him live in Dallas. I enjoyed all his specials so I was excited that I was going to see him in person. The show was not bad it was just OK, It looked as though some times he forgot what he was going to say or he was not really prepared. Now don't get me wrong he did say some great jokes that had me crying with laughter. He also did a bit when he reads rants from the audience which truthfully I could have done with out. Didn't really care about the opinion of others in the audience I wanted to here what Lewis Black had to say., All in all it was not a bad show it just was not a great show.

Lewis was sharp, topically current, intelligent and incredibly funny. His performance was wonderful and I can't wait to see him again some time. The venue is basically a convention ballroom, filled with temporary chairs and a stage at one end with video screens on each side. The video projection needs to be color corrected and did not appear to be HD. It was obviously not right to the point of being distracting. Had we been near the back of the room, I would have been disappointed. The stage lighting, particularly the spotlights on Lewis, were not flattering, making Lewis' skin look an oddly unhealthy shade of pale. I consider this a small to medium venue compared to those in Dallas, around 1200 seats. The chairs are not uncomfortable, but by the end of the evening I was shifting around to stay comfortable. It's in a casino, and it's everything you expect a casino to be, but was not a Vegas class showroom. I have heard the entertainers that appear here have to agree to a non-compete arrangement, they can't perform here and in also any venue in North Texas or DFW area. I assume it's true because whenever they appear here, they don't appear in DFW.

We arrive we were happy with the location! But then we arrive to our seats to find that the were generic chairs you would see at a wedding! Which upset us cause we paid $360 for uncomfortable seats that were so close together that me and a stranger were literally on top of each other! Then the program started there was attendants talking and shinING flashlights! The opening act was amazing and funny! Then Lewis black came out! He was funny but 90% of the show was about Hillary and Donald! Which became repeative and annoying! I would see him again just not around election year! The best part of his show was the end where he did a Q&A!

Went to LB@ the Palace Theater in Columbus Ohio. First time going to the Palace. LB was pretty funny and spot on with his observations, as usual. The last row of the lower level was Horrible! You are so far away, you miss all the manurisms that aid in his comedy. Definitely not going to sit that far back, if I ever return to the Palace Theater in Columbus. For god sake move the bar away from the front entrance where people are trying to get in the door!

I love seeing comedians who make me laugh so hard that I cry. Lewis has always been one of those kinds of observational comedians who does that, especially when he crooks his finger and squeezes his voice to make the perfect, hilarious point. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, from the excellent "open" by John Bowman (wonderful facial expressions and sly, dry observation) to the amazing 1 & 1/2 hour set by Lewis that included "on-the-fly" riffs from audience suggestions that we offered via Lewis's webpage (that was cool) to doing the final section of the act while live-streaming on the Internet (with Lewis deftly using his iPad on stage to reference audience suggestions). It was a wonderful, memorable, "totally-worth-it" evening. I would DEFINITELY recommend it for any and all Lewis Black fans...he is in great form.

I have watched him for many years now. While I do not agree with his political views I do appreciate the fact that he finds humor in our system and makes light of the entire situation. He is truly a genius and stand out performer amongst all the comedians I have seen. I will continue to watch his shows and laugh my butt off at his way of finding the humor in all we know. And just to be fair, this is coming from a conservative republican that appreciates his comedian side and outlook on life. I will say that the venue was nice and clean and well done. Although there were several hecklers in the audience, what could you expect, it's riverside, he dealt with them professionally and swiftly with a ovation from the crowd. We paid to see a professional on stage and to give him the courtesy to do his act and that is what he made clear, not to hear some moron spew his mouth from the back of the theater.

I love Lewis Black, always have. He was great on the Daily Show, has been great in everything I've seen from movies to interviews. John Bowman was great too. My problem with this event was the location. Both comedians commented on that fact themselves. They both swear quite a lot, which is fine for those who paid to see them, but maybe not so fine for families going by (quite frequently) on ferry boats. I don't think we got to see the show we would have seen if we had been in a theater, because there were so many distractions. Freight trucks backing in on the left, ferry and sail boats on the right, airplanes, fireworks, and crapping seagulls. I think both Mr. Black and Mr. Bowman struggled to keep their composure and train of thought. At least I can say it was unforgettable.

What a fantastic evening! I had seen Lewis Black on TV but never in person. The seating was great, the audience very enthusiastic, and his lead in comedian was very funny! Lewis Black's show at the Palace Theatre was absolutely fantastic - I would HIGHLY recommend getting tickets to see him anywhere else he is performing! His opening act, Jon Bowman, was also fall-out-of-seat hilarious. Mr. Black even did a super job fielding a drunken heckler in the audience, making jokes at their expense until security ejected them. Some jokes were even personalized for the city of Columbus which added a personal feel to it, and BEST OF ALL - Lewis stayed after to take photos with anyone who waited (and it was only a 10 minute wait!) and signed autographs! GREAT night, worth EVERY penny...better than any concert or standup performance I've ever been to!

Lewis Black can easily be compared to the modern day George Carlin. He is a political and satirical genius. No wonder his tour shirts read "Lewis Black for President." This time I ended up sitting behind a huge man and his huge wife. I had to constantly twist myself to even see. The Palace itself is beautiful just not great for viewing shows in my opinion.

great show, as expected. the opening act started a little slow, but he finally warmed up and was quite funny. lewis black was a riot. you may not agree with all of his politics, but you can't find fault in his delivery. if you're thin skinned, don't go (a woman had to be ejected because of her loud objections). the only thing i would like to have them do is give a definite start time for black after the first act finished. i could have used that 20 minutes more productively.

Love, love the Palace, but Lewis Black is just not that funny any more. Several good laughs, but way, way too many F*$%'s that were not necessary. His routine is just not my cup of tea, I am sure some love him. The Palace personnel are totally awesome, love to go there..

I love Lewis but this show was a disappointment. He had a warm up act that was good. Lewis only did about an hour then another half hour of streaming. A lot of his material was hard to hear and understand as he would change his vocal range throughout as he usually does. The live streaming consisted of his reading comments and questions that were tweeted in, much fairly boring. This was his second time here and there were many empty seats. They had also tried offering tickets at 2 for 1. Perhaps this is why. Most comedy acts easily sellout out this small theater especially on a Saturday night.. I have been to this venue many times and this was my first disappointment.

Thank you Mr. Black for making Saturday night enjoyable for me and my wife! You have such a talent for making the insanity of life s situations funny (politicians). Thank you!!!!

I have to be honest. I was not overly impressed with the show or the structure of the event. I appreciate that Mr. Black is recovering from medical issues and I give him credit for going on with the show. However the "opening" act is just that, an opening act, not half the act. I am sure he was stretching out his time to accommodate Mr. Black and his health issues, but he went on too long and then this was followed by an intermission. Not the way to do it. Come out, warm up the crowd and then the headliner. Black's performance lacked energy (again probably secondary to health issues) but all in all a disappointing show. Clever, but limited.

Lewis Black taps into the astonishment and disgust felt by anyone with a clear view of the current political and cultural climate in the US. He helps us to laugh at our absurd (and often tragic) predicament.

I expected more angry . The opening act made me laugh until I cried. The political humor I expected was there, as well as good-natured insults about our town. I doubt I d buy the ticket again, though. A good one-time visit.

Lewis Black was back at the Forum and was his old finger-shaking self. There was some concern that his bout with pneumonia might have dulled his edge, but not so much! Some of his pithy jokes were lost on me, as I have a slight hearing issue and the sound system/Forum acoustics caused me to miss a couple of punchlines, but that's my fault-should have opted for seats up front. His topical comments on our wonderful U.S. Representative, the nearly incoherent Claudia Tenney, were spot-on and well received by the politically aware audience. Though I had hoped for a bit more on the Cheeto-in-Chief, I guess that since that material writes itself and we get more than a full measure on each day's news feed, Lewis decided not to go for the low hanging fruit.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a huge fan of Lewis Black, and have been for years. However, this show was disappointing, possibly because of high expectations. It was not a "show" in the normal sense. He did not seem to have prepared routines and sets (e.g. Seinfeld). He did a few "Lewisisms" to warm the audience, did a nice set on being ill in Ireland, and then basically read a succession of news clippings and used them as a basis for comedy. He also said, that after all these years, he was "tired" and this was "not fun". Maybe that is the truth.

This was my third time seeing Lewis Black and I was very disappointed. He came across as tired and checked out, ill-prepared and sort of phoning it in. He shared his annoyance with the poor attendance and seemed like he was taking it out on the audience - we were clearly his favorite target of the night. That was funny at first, everyone can laugh at themselves a bit, but then it just seemed mean-spirited and lazy. I've been a big fan for many years but I think Mr. Black should probably take a break and recharge his batteries before heading back out on tour.

We were disappointed. The show wasn't as good as the ones we've seen on TV. We were looking for more political humor and there wasn't very much of that. I think he forgets, what people see in New York isn't what they see in Ohio. Maybe we just want more of the same. It is new to us, maybe not him.

First, I love Lewis Black- his approach, his topics, his delivery and his dark humor. I ve enjoyed everything he s ever done, including live performance CDs and live performances. Unfortunately, this Colubus performance was terrible. Contrary to his usual story telling approach, this was 60 min of difficult to hear, somewhat disjointed rambling. He took the approach of reading various real life news stories and commented on them. The theme was I can t make up anything g better than real life. Ok, I get that. But unfortunately it just didn t work. It seemed as though Lewis wasn t feeling well, but overall it came across as just going through the motions. His 60 mins was followed up by a live internet stream that answered questions posed by audience and internet listeners.i should add that the opening act, whose name I can t even remember, wasn t particularly good. Overall, I love Lewis stuff, but skip this tour and I stead enjoy recorded material from years prior.

Lewis Black s common sense look at American society just isn t fun anymore in Trump s America. The laughs are few and far between and mainly stem from his efforts to make fun of the audience. Even his opening act only managed to get laughs from parodying Black and mimicking Trump. I think even Lewis Black believes his brand of comedy has no value with a Republican Congress and a Trump presidency. He should take a sabbatical until the political climate changes.

Ive been a fan of Lewis Black for many years...this wasn't his best effort. I felt he was struggling to get through jokes. Personally, he should have stayed on Trump/Congress...that's where he got his laughs. The transition to the live streaming was awkward , "come on you guys, get real loud!"...they actually have to make the crowd get fired up after his set. We left after realizing the live stream was as bad as the main show. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the opening comic was better!
