Atlas Genius

In 2012, a single titled “Trojans” gained online notoriety overnight and quickly edged its way into alternative radio locality in the United States. The source of the successful first effort was a sibling duo from Adelaide, Australia called Atlas Genius. Once fronting as a rock cover band while they built their recording studio, brothers Keith and Michael Jeffery quickly capitalized on their international recognition with their first EP,Through The Glass, in June of that year. Their first full-length album, When It Was Now, debuted on February 19, 2013 via Warner Bros.

First of all, let me say that I wasn't planning on attending this show before receiving a coupon code for $10 tickets. That being said, I am so glad I did! The show started off very strong with Half the Animal, a small group that clearly enjoyed creating and sharing their music. They were energetic and a lot of fun! Next, MAGIC GIANT came on stage, and they did not disappoint! These guys are extremely talented, and they definitely knew how to have a good time. Their music was exciting, and they fed off of the crowd's energy to create quite an electric show, despite the fact that they played banjos, a violin, an acoustic guitar, and an upright bass. It was their first time playing in Detroit, and based on this experience, you can bet on me catching them when they're in town again! After MAGIC GIANT went out with a bang, Atlas Genius absolutely lit up the St. Andrew's basement-venue with a variety of tracks, both old and new. If seeing them open for Andrew McMahon earlier this summer was a small appetizer, this was definitely the main course meal. Not once did they lose pace with the tempo of the night - with every song they played, the crowd yearned for the next song, resulting in one hell of an encore that left you walking out onto the streets of Detroit with a smile on your face and incredible memories stored in your head (and probably your Snapchat)

I went just to see Skylar Grey. I missed her last show, when she was in town. I thought she was going to play music from her Don't Look Down album. Not one old song. Everything was new music. Usually an artist mixes old and new songs. Her voice is beautiful, but her new music isn't my cup of tea. I was very disappointed.

Atlas Genius sounds good on your iPod, but phenomenal live! The lead vocalist was quite interactive with the audience during all the songs, and the band had this amazing energy. The singer was on pitch the entire time, and the sound was balanced. The venue was intimate, the lighting was great because it was synchronized with the music, the sound system had a rockin' bass that just vibrated your soul, and it was like you could feel the music. This was my very first time attending a live concert and it far surpassed my expecations! The band members met audience members after the show and even liked my video of them on Instagram-very caring of their fans. It's been almost a week and I still can't stop thinking about it.

Atlas Genius has come onto the American music scene in a whirlwind of anticipation for me. I first heard their song "Trojans" on the radio and immediately set out to hear everything else they had to offer. I pre-ordered their album having only heard one of their songs. This is a first for me with a band that wasn't already an established favorite of mine. With each new song on their album my favorite changed because every song was better than the last! I tried, unsuccessfully, to see them play at a venue near my home with Imagine Dragons but a few weeks later they announced more shows and I rushed to order my tickets at the Norva. I drove 3 hours there and 3 hours back getting home at 2:30AM, but it was SO WORTH IT! Their openers suited them tremendously and I got a new favorite band out of it (seriously, Pacific Air released their first album that very day and I bought it on iTunes as I listened to them play their set). If you like Atlas Genius at all, now is the time to see them. Their next tour might not be in such an intimate venue.

They structured their set list perfectly, and did a great job pumping up the crowd. Haerts and Postelles were good openers too, but the excitement didn't hit the crowd until AG stepped out. Would love to see them again one day especially with some new material as the band continues to grow.

The concert was so much more amazing than I could ever have imagined! I had never heard of the opening acts before, but they were really impressive, fun, and pumped up the crowd. I immediately downloaded their songs when I got home after the concert. I thought the crowd was great, they were really interactive and I even made some friends around me! When Atlas Genius got on I could not stop smiling. Keith came into the audience right in front of me twice and everyone went wild. It was the best concert I have ever been to!

This was my 2nd time seeing Atlas Genius in concert and they definitely did not disappoint! If you've listened to their CD it's pretty mellow and laid back but in concert they really let go and have jam sessions and do intros to their songs which is something you don't see often nowadays. These guys are so talented and it's so great that they are able to share this with the world and I hope they continue to share it for many more years to come. The opening acts were good. I discovered The Postelles at this concert and I'm now addicted to their music as well. So if you're looking for something new go check these bands out!!

First off... I absolutely love Atlas Genius and the fact that they came to St Louis is amazing. However when your ticket says the doors open and 7 and the show starts at 8... It would be nice if that was actually true. Doors didn't open until almost 8 and the opening act didn't even start until close to 8:45. Speaking of the opening act I don't think a worse match would have been possible. You couldn't understand anything the guy was singing/screaming over the manufactured sound from their keyboard and the overkill of speakers they used. As for Atlas Genius I wish they would have played more!!!! They played for maybe 45 minutes tops!!! I know they don't have a lot of their own songs but I left wanting more.

Hopefully though, the next time they come around, it's at the same venue or somewhere a bit bigger cause they deserve it. Plus they waited till the Broncos game was fully over before going on.

What a great show! Happy Hollows was the opening, opening band and the lead singer had a haunting, infectious voice and energy. The opening band was Family of the Year and they had a folksy, fun style that was great to watch. I was equally impressed that everyone in the band sang. The highlight of the show of course was headliner Atlas Genius who put on an energetic and light-filled show. They sounded amazing and they played all of their best songs. I would recommend this show to anyone who loves alternative music!

I've seen Atlas Genius once before- when they were touring with Imagine Dragons. I've been to a good number of concerts and this is definitely in my top three. The lead singer was great at engaging the crowd and overall they put on a great show. And they changed up their songs a little bit so that they were longer- like for Back Seat here was an epic guitar solo in the middle of it. I personally wish I could buy all their songs over again live because it was better than the versions on iTunes. And you know how opening bands are usually supposed to suck? Well these sure didn't. The opening bands (Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and Family of the Year) were spectacular. They did not hold out at all and I felt like I was at one of their own concerts!

Atlas Genius put on an incredible show. They really know how to get the crowd moving, even if the crowd didn't know their music! Each song they played sounded exactly like the album version. Keith, the singer and guitar player, kept the crowd entertained throughout! One of the most amazing shows I have been to, would definitely see them again. Also, they're very genuine...I got a picture with them and they signed the setlist that I got from the concert, and can't forget about their Australian accents :)

Ever since I heard "Trojans" on AltNation, I've been in love with Atlas Genius. I saw them earlier this year at Firefly Music Festival, and I really wanted to see them in a more intimate setting. Irving Plaza was a great venue for this. The staff there is great, and the other concert goers were equally awesome. Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr are really fun and dancy, and got the crowd warmed up nicely. Family of the Year was neat as well; they kept the momentum going. And Atlas Genius - well they were superb! They sound amazing live; and they look so comfortable on stage. I bought some merch after the show, which enabled me to get a wristband for the meet and greet. I'm really glad I did that, because Keith and Michael are super nice. I would see them again. I feel like you can always tell when someone loves what they do, whether it's making drinks at Starbucks or being a rock star, that vibe makes any experience enjoyable and this was no different. I saw Atlas Genius at Live 105s BFD 2013 this summer. I liked what I heard so wanted to check them out when they headlined The Fillmore. Lead singer Keith Jeffery s microphone was set up stage left rather than center stage, but he worked the stage and didn t ignore those of us stage right. This set up allowed drummer Michael Jeffery to be seen instead of being blocked from view, which often happens to drummers. This Australian band put on a great show. The crowd was clapping, jumping up and down and dancing to all of their catchy tunes. Keith Jeffery jumped into the area reserved for photographers and stood on the steps of the railing to get closer to the audience. Instead of jumping back up on stage, he walked into the crowd that was stage right to go back through the curtain that covers bands from being seen as they wait in the wings to go on stage. When Keith asked for the lights to be turned on so he could see the audience he specially said that he wanted to see the chandeliers. I love when bands come to The Fillmore and comment on how amazing this venue is and shows respect for its history. My only complaint is that he called us \u2018Frisco . Frisco is a town in Texas it is not an acceptable abbreviation for San Francisco. For the record, neither is San Fran. Atlas Genius closed out the show with their first US hit Trojans . At the end of the show Keith once again jumped down into the photographer area and walked to the curtain after hugging a fan that was literally two people away from me. Family of the Year from Los Angeles was the second opener. They were a bit more on the mellow side in comparison to both Atlas Genius and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. They seemed a bit crowded on the stage. There were several times I thought the bassist Brent Freaney, oddly not listed on their official website, was going to bump into keyboardist Christina Schroeter. Drummer Sebastian Keefe came out from behind the drum kit to play the tambourine and sing Buried at the front of the stage. While I liked other songs, this was the stand out song for me. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. from Detroit was the first opener of the night. I had seen them once before at The Regency Ballroom in 2012 when they opened up for Fitz and The Tantrums. I remember them vividly because the jackets they were wearing glowed with black lights. I had liked their set then, but really enjoyed them this time. They were very high energy, interactive with the crowd and played music that made you want to clap and dance. My favorite song of their set was If You Didn t See Me (Then You Weren t On The Dancefloor) .

I go to 12-16 concerts a year at least. This was one of the best to which I have been. Half the animal started off with music that sucked you in right away. You immediately got into the beat and their energy. Magic giant was off the charts great. They came into the audience and sand acoustic. They were very interactive and their music was great. It is rare to have two openers whose style jives with the headliner. I had been waiting a few years to see Atlas Genius as their bus broke down when we were scheduled to see them before. They were great doing lot so threat songs from their first album and second and introducing new tunes. They even agreees to do photos after the show. So unique. And their tshirts were fantastic and reasonable in price. Love the underground anyway so a great combo

I was a bit surprised to find it a 3 band show, as I went to see Atlas Genius, knowing Magic Giant would be the back up. A group called Hungry Animals opened and played about 1/2 hour, then they removed their instruments and hardware and Magic Giant took the stage. They played for maybe 40 minutes, then back through stage changes until finally about 10 Atlas Genius came out. They played about an hour, and I did not stick around for any encore, if there was one. The last song I saw was If So. Band was great, but show was not long enough.

Atlas Genius may or may not be a huge band, but they are certainly big enough that they should be playing in front of a decent size crowd. Originally they were suppose to play at College Street Music Hall in New Haven CT, but do to lack of ticket sales it was moved to the Outer Space in Hamden. The venue is literally a small bar, with a large room and stage in another room. I don't know the exact number of fans, but if I had to guess it was probably no more then 300 people, which made for a very unique memorable experience. It didn't matter it if 300 or 3,000 people AG, put on a great show the sound system and lights were in perfect rhythm with the music and it had a had a feeling that the music was coming straight from you soul, not only that but the rhythm was flowing and it was next to imposable to not sing along. Which the crowd was doing all night. "Where I belong" was a giant sing along. I should also mention that this was the night that Prince Rodgers died. They played "Centered on you" which kind of sounds like a Prince song and even changed a few lyrics, and sang Prince. The old saying "The show must go on" and for AG it did. Kieth is a great showman and because I was right in the front, he gave me his guitar pick. he would also go to the edge of the stage and lean over, fans were talking pictures with phones and he was moving his hand, to get in the way. After the show, he and the other members of the band were hanging out the bar and were talking and taking photos with fans. I even talked a bit about Australian Rules Football with him, he also said to me "I remember you...you were in front having a good time" and I also said thank you for the pick. Was it the best concert I ever went to? I can't say yes or no, but it was memorable and truly was a special night. I can't wait to see them again.

Wow after two lackluster warm up bands AG rocked the house!! Did majority of both their current US releases. They were great... so much energy! Suprised they aren't more popular here is US. Only about125 persons in the crowd. Made for very intimate evening

Atlas Genius was exactly what I expected from a world traveled band...I would so see them again. The last review I posted on T.M. was not so enthusiastic of a certain opening band *cough* Antler *cough*, but this time I can't say enough good things about Mainland, one of the two opening bands that night. Their sound was fresh, yet seasoned. Mainland blow me away. All in all very good show.

Port City Music Hall is a wonderful music space. As to Atlas Genius, they were a lot of fun and put on a fantastic show. My sister came with me and, despite never having heard the band, she was dancing up a storm. Thanks for the good night out Port City and Atlas Genius!

Atlas Genius has only gotten better with album two. The show was a great mix of songs from their debut album When It Was Now and their recently released album Inanimate Objects. The crowd was really into them and the set list was high energy with a few moments of Keith Jeffery's hypnotic vocals in between. Will absolutely see them again!!

Atlas Genius lacked energy and appeared like they did not even want to be there. Their show was flat and not entertaining. The music seemed mechanical, and without heart. I was expecting so much more. Bright spot was the warm up Band, All My Vices was a great surprise. They were entertaining and good musicians. They were nervious, but I heard it was their first time at the Pagent.

Seen these guys as an opening band the first time and was really impressed. Now their headlining show was amazing!! Every song is great and really looking forward to see what they've got with album two!

It was my first time at the Fillmore, and it was pretty awesome. It has so much history and you can see right away with all of the posters of bands that have played there. We got there early and got seats on the upper deck. There aren't many, so get there early unless you want to stand, which I usually prefer to do. But the view from the upper deck made it feel like we were front row and the acoustics were great too. Overall, Atlas Genius put on a great show!

Incredible experience, not only did the band sound fantastic, they had the crowd engaged, they were so gracious and it turned into just an awesome time. The crowd was into it, well behaved and it made it so enjoyable for everyone. Loved how they met people after the show as well. So much fun, thanks Atlas Genius, you really brought it!
