Owl City

Owl City is the musical brainchild of Adam Young, who launched the project in 2007 while living at his parents' home in Owatonna, Minnesota. Troubled by insomnia, Young began spending his evenings in the household basement, where a computer and several instruments provided a diversion from his sleeping patterns. He eventually combined those diversions into a blend of electronica and emo-pop, using little more than his computer and various keyboards to record the material. Songs were uploaded to MySpace upon completion, and Young began attracting a surprising amount of attention on the networking site.

This was my first concert ever and being an Owl City fan since 2014 (although I had all of Ocean Eyes on my iPod in 2009, I didn't know about his other songs) I couldn't think of anyone better to go to. I travelled from north Florida to get to the concert and it was so worth the drive. I suggest getting to the venue 2 hours early if you want to stand in the front. Rozzi Crane opened the show at 8 and played for an hour and wow was she amazing to start with. I'd suggest either during her performance or right as you enter to get your merchandise (there is only one shirt with tour dates, 3 other shirts, and a really cool hoodie as when the show was over, all they had left were XS of the tour date shirt and 2XL of the hoodie which bummed me out.) Adam came on stage to "Bird With A Broken Wing" and instantly the entire crowd was pumped. The people as well that your around are super nice while you wait for Although Adam did have to leave a few times to catch his breath, overall it was an amazing show. There was jumping to a decent amount of songs (Verge, Thunderstruck, Dreams and Disasters, Kamikaze, and Deer In The Headlights), so be prepared to jump or watch out for the people jumping haha. At the beginning of the encore someone gave Adam a skateboard and he put it to the side, after ending the show with Good Time (feat. Rozzi Crane), he grabbed the skateboard he set aside, wished us goodnight, and rode off on the skateboard off the stage and to his tour bus. I had an amazing time, that was so worth the money but the question is\u2026When Can I See You Again?

When Owl City came on stage everything just became a hundred times greater than I had anticipated. Adam Young sang perfectly and his band played perfectly, there were a ton of Owl City favorites played and there was a dubstep bass drop incorporated into one of his songs. The light show was awesome and added to the beat of the music that was more of a feeling than a sound. Like, literally, the bass was amazingly powerful. Not to the point of not being able to hear the music, but to the point where you can feel it reverberate throughout your entire body. And just to complete the picture, Owl City's overall personality and happy demeanor made the concert a very enjoyable place to be. I absolutely loved it and recommend Owl City to anyone who is thinking about going to a concert in the near future.

Really loved the show. Both opening bands were great. The venue was clean and the employees were very friendly. It was disappointing that Adam Young does not come out to sign autographs. The crowd was very well behaved and I believe it would have benefited him greatly to greet his fans after all they have brought him to the place he is now. (I'm just sayin'). While Adam undoubtedly has amazing talent I would love to see him interact with the crowd a little more. He seemed a little distant and his fans noticed it. All in all I am really impressed with Adam and his gifts and talents and I pray that God continues to bless him in all his endeavors.

The band itself was amazing, I loved hearing all my favorite songs live, but the place where they played was awful. I really recommend going to see them, but make sure you know where you're going. Other than that, Owl City is amazing!!

So, who knew that Owl City would launch so many teens into actually believing that simple lyrics...no...clean and simple lyrics would be so catchy! Accompanied by the fact that they are incredible musicians, OWL CITY really rocked the house at The Grog Shop on Monday, September 21. It was a great night and one that helped a mom of teens re-capture some of the excitement of youth and music! The kids attending were all excellent audience members and just had fun dancing and singing and clapping and giving off a lot of positive energy. It was a fabulous night!

Unicorn Kid opened with an incredibly upbeat, complex-layered nintendocore set list that had the entire venue jumping. The uber-attractive Kate Havnevik brought down the intensity with her angelic voice. She was the best accoustic act I've ever heard. Owl City's performance was phenomenal. Adam Young is always having a good time while on stage. He also opted to not process his voice for this tour. It is also interesting to note that he only travels with attractive female synth players (Mindy white from Lydia, and now Breanne Duren). The night ended with the crowds plea for an encore and they came up and finished the show with "fireflies".

So we've never been to Bowery Ballroom and we heard that the acoustics were amazing but wow. We were blown away with the level and quality Owl City achieved live, so much better than the cd honestly. Even though Adam was really sick (he was swigging honey on stage) his energy and voice were amazing. We weren't sure if there was going to be a band with him and they were also really amazing. If you get the chance you should really go see them.

This show was spectacular. The venue is the perfect setting for a concert. With three floors equipped with a bar and plenty of dance space it is impossible not to have a good time. Great restaurants aren't too far away in Little Italy and China Town so be sure to grab a bite to eat before the concert. Owl City played phenomenally well and because the space is just the right size you don't feel lost in the crowd. AWESOME SHOW!

Adam Young/Owl City is genius!!!! I can't stop singing, smiling, and dancing. One of the most uplifting shows I've been to in a long time. I could listen to his music all day. The concert started with a fabulous performance by a Scottish guy who goes by "unicorn kid." The music was amazing...and even though it was basically just him rocking out on stage, he was still entertaining. Owl City came on after some girl sang a few songs (I don't know her name, but not really worth mentioning). Adam was so great and interacted with the audience a bit at the end. He played all of the right songs (basically everything you would want to hear off of his Ocean Eyes album, and then a few other hits). The crowd was totally into it, and the intimate setting of the Bowery made it all the better. Plus Taylor Swift showed up and was dancing and singing the whole time (what a bonus!). Overall, the concert was awesome. I would definitely go again. The most underrated person of the night was definitely Adam's female lead, Breanne Duran. Her voice is beautiful and has the mystical likeness of Adam's. They are such a great pair! The only negative part of the concert were the overpriced booze (but what can you expect in NYC) and then the random second act which almost put me to sleep. GO TO OWL CITY. fantastic show!

The venue was very cold which became very apparent during the second opener as her music was too mellow for the style of music Owl City is. Owl City itself was fantastic and a great show.

The time just standing in the crowd and waiting for performers to come out is ridiculously long. The show is suppose to start at 6, but like most concerts, the time gets pushed back so it did not start until 7. By the time Owl City came out it was 8:45 and the show ended at ..9:30 :/ he only played 7-8 songs. But, he was actually sick on that day (with a minor sore throat) and it was his first time in Canada, so i guess he deserves a leeway. Overall he still sounded pretty awesome but his sick voice gets drowned by the crowd most of the time as he cant go very loud.

LIGHTS wowed me, singing better than she does on her already impressive album "The Listening." Furthermore, during her live performance, she altered a few of the songs just for fun; I loved it. Owl City put on a tremendous performance of their own. Their show was full of energy, unexpected breaks between songs, spontaneity, and light shows. They also altered some of their songs for live performance, which was, again, exciting. Overall, I found that LIGHTS had an amazing vocal performance that couldn't be topped, but Owl City put on a better overall show. I would recommend seeing both artists whenever you get the chance. Lastly, as a college male, my three friends and I were certainly not the typical audience member at this concert; maybe this gives my review more credibility.

The venue wasn't the greatest location ever. If you got stuck behind one person, you couldn't see a single thing. The light show for Owl City was impressive and well put together. However, while I love his music and lyrics, he didn't sound as impressive live as I was hoping. Perhaps it was just the booming speakers provided at the venue. Although I went to the show for the purpose of Owl City, I left loving the opening act, LIGHTS, way more. Fantastic vocal performance, an exceptional amount of energy and great music altogether! Be sure NOT to miss this opening act! If you're an Owl City fan, LIGHTS performance will not disappoint you!

While I wouldn't say that Adam Young is a great singer, he definitely knows how to entertain. From the funny entrance, to dancing around like a leaf on the wind, to throwing a used toothbrush into the audience (bleh!), he know how to make his fans happy (the majority of his fans being tween girls). The rest of Owl City was great as well. The girls were beautiful and always smiling/dancing and the rest also put on a good performance. I went mostly for the supporting act Paper Route (who were absolutely amazing btw), but if you at least slightly like Owl City, you will definitely get your money's worth.

The concert was okay in my opinion. The second half of the concert was better than the first. Too many screaming teenagers (with their parents watching them) to my liking. It got a bit annoying because the kids tried to go closer to the stage and the parents would follow them anywhere. Throughout the concert the singer kept screaming "Tacos!" - don't know what that's about (very weird indeed, we think he might have been high or something). One of my fave quotes: "NY has the best tacos!" He also mentioned something about a taco truck. Yea, weird! However, it was pretty entertaining. He came out with a costume (we think it's a snow owl costume but he could have easily passed as a chicken). His music was great (but his voice, not so much) and the lighting was awesome. We all sang along to the songs esp "Fireflies" and had a a pretty good time. The singer is not very interactive with the audience though. Throughout the show he only talked about "tacos" and how he likes/loves the audience (the tacos comments more dominant). Bottom line, it was fun but I would not go again. It was just okay for me.

Owl City and Lights were a fantastic combination. I love them both--Lights is my favorite female artist--and I own all their albums. They are absolutely amazing live; both Adam Young and Lights sound even better live than they do in their albums (which is more than I can say for a lot of artists), and they always add a bit of creative/artistic license to their songs that makes it sound different and more real than they did on the albums. The vibe at the concert was great, everyone seemed excited and happy and both Lights and Owl City were very engaging for their audiences, encouraging them to sing along at times, etc. I will most DEFINITELY be back <3

I went in to the concert to see Lights. She is an amazing Canadian artist (I say artist because she's not just any singer or songwriter). Paper Route opened and was completely amazing. The vocal harmonies (something I love and pay particular attention to) were really good and continual throughout the songs, which I loved! And Lights was even better. She has so much energy and you can tell she really loves what she's doing. I, myself, am a 'one-man-show' artist, and she gives me so much hope that one day, I'll find a band with whom I can tour. Last, but definitely not least, Owl City -- Owl City always seemed to be one of those overrated bands because if you went to the concert, most of the audience consisted of tweens (and their parents), but little did I know, Owl City would blow your mind away. They aren't just a synth-pop band. In fact, what I used to think was the synth was actually a xylophone!!!!! I was so intrigued by the xylophone that I stayed late to watch them put it away (I wanted to see what kind of case they'd put it in), but I had to leave before they did so because I had come to the concert alone and had to walk a couple hours downtown so I didn't want to walk around NYC too late. Overall, everything was amazing. The line-up was amazing. and most importantly, each band member was amazing. The bands were so tight. You can tell they've played a lot and love to do it, which made me love it too!

Deas Vail, Lights, and Owl City were all amazing! I wish the drums were a bit less loud on Deas Vail's set because I bought their CD after, and it's very vocal and piano centered music, but the drums drowned that out just a bit during the live show. Aside from that, gracious guys, came out to talk after they played, and I would definitely see them again! Lights was fun and they put on a phenomenal show that really gets the crowd pumped (but I can't say I'm a fan of her face being plastered over most of the merch. It's a very pretty face, but it's about the music and the inspiration, so that comes across a bit egotistical in my opinion). Owl City, oh Owl City, how you steal my heart. :) A violin, a cello, a xylophone, an electric guitar, a drumset, a keyboard, and your heavenly voices. Thank you for bringing your music into the world. You've shared your very own Einstein with us. (P.S. Saw David Archuleta there. Yes, girls, he WAS there and I wasn't pulling your leg. I've been to many concerts, of both independent and mainstream artists, but Owl City was absolutely the best I've ever seen! Get there early to be front row, it's worth it!! Adam Young himself comes off as a little shy, but when he starts singing, he becomes a completely different person. He's very entertaining, singing and playing the guitar and piano during the show...along with some crazy dance moves! He sounded just like he did on the CD, though you could hear the crowd singing almost as loud as him. Even if you've never heard of Owl City, by the end of their show, you will want to reach out & hug Adam & the rest of the band! I highly recomend this concert. Awesome experience, awesome night.

Came early with friends, was like 6th in line. Great staff at the venue, very friendly. Got into the show, very long wait, was up in front row, big mistake. Myspace fans shrieking in ears every chance they got... First headliner was awesome, she was very passionate about her work very calming music. Second band were tools, after they finished their set... which seemed like after an eternity... the guitarist/vocalist while unplugging his gear mouthed "sorry we sucked" to front row people... its okay dude, just stop playing that type of music, you can't help it... Owl City was boring for the first 3-4 songs, but Vanilla "Icecream" (Twilight - Adam for some reason sang icecream to be silly... oh Adam...) picked up the show from then to the end, which was pretty enjoyable. It was exciting playing into the "encore" mentality they set up for us by leaving the stage after Hello Seattle without playing Fireflies by screaming along with everyone else "One More Song!" until they came back out to end with that as the finale. The drums were too heavily mic'd and instead of sounding like drums they were instead deafening explosions with ruined a lot of the atmosphere you experience from the studio work. Honestly, that was what I missed most... the headliner soloist was able to create some beautiful atmospheric environments just by herself, why not the main act?

Owl City is my favorite band ever ever ever, and I was amazed. The energy was so crazy in the room, the camera work was wonderful, the lights were really cool, the music was loud and awesome, and it was definately an unforgettable show. I will definately be going to the next Owl City concert in this area. As for the venue, it was great!! I was standing toward the back of the sunken area where a lot of people stood, and he still felt really close. One thing my dad brought up was that Adam Young (Owl City) never introduced the other people that were playing his music that night. I didn't really mind, but I would have liked it if he talked more, too. Gave a story or two to the crowd, you know? All he really said was "How's it going?" "Thank you!" and "You've been great!" (well, and also the singing). Overall, it was an unforgettable night, definately worth getting to bed at 1 on a school night.

I honestly cannot believe how amazing the concert was. The opening band Early Action was really good, I ended up buying one of their CD's and listen to it daily (along with my neverending Owl City playlist). The venue was perfect, it was small enough for it to be an intimate setting, and we were so close to him (physically). I enjoyed the entire setlist, he chose a wide variety of songs from all of his albums, and played almost every single song from his new album. The only thing I was disappointed about was that he didn't play his song Bombshell Blonde, which is my favorite. Overall it was an amazing experience, I still watch videos of the concert and wish I was still there. I will definitely be attending another concert, and bringing a ton of friends with me next time! I have been an Owl City fan for quite some time now and love all of his music. Naturally I knew the show would be amazing but I was still blown away by just how good it truly was. I went with a friend of mine that was in no way an Owl City fan in the slightest and he told me he could not believe how good Owl City was. I would recommend anyone and everyone to attend an Owl City concert, he sings fun songs and never EVER curses or uses profanity, such a hard thing to find these days. All ages will enjoy Owl City, give it a try you wont be disappointed!!

This was the first Owl City concert I have been too, and it was absolutely amazing!!! Adam Young is an amazing musician, and his music is always great, especially live!! I also really liked how he was so genuine and humble at the end of the concert. I would highly recommend anyone to go to his concerts!

This was by far my favorite concert ever! I saw Owl City once before but this was even better! Not only was Adam Young great, but I really enjoyed Mat Kearney as well. He even came in the audience during one of his songs and I touched him! It was by far my favorite event this summer!

This concert was way cool! The crowd had good energy and the performers rocked. The interaction with the audience was remarkable and fun! The setlist was put together well and had a great pace. Owl City clearly enjoys their work and it shows in their performance and energy! I would see them again in a heartbeat.

This concert was amazing and hands down, the best concert I've been to. Adam has great energy and kept the audience engaged. The violinist and cellist were awesome and the quality was great! Everything sounded amazing and it definitely was a night to remember.

I honestly had some doubts coming into the concert, I mean I hadn't listened to Owl City in a long time and had only heard his new songs a few times. And I was completely blown away!! The concert was engaging and brought a whole new life to Adam's songs, and Adam's personality throughout the concert was unforgettable. The little introduction stories between songs were so funny and quirky in the best way and I've been hooked on his new album since! Thanks for a great show!!

Owl City put on an amazing show. I wish that I could go back and see it everyday! Adam sounded great, his dance moves were awkward in a good way, and he is a very funny guy. He talked about Cowboys and Aliens a lot!

If you are a fan of Owl City, seeing them live is an absolute must in my opinion! The band puts on quite an amazing show. You won't be disappointed with the track list he's selected either; he played songs from both his newest CD and from his older works. Adam Young also seems very genuinely sweet, humble, and adorable, and it is a pleasure to watch him perform! I can't wait to attend another Owl City concert in the future, and I would highly recommend their concerts to anyone and everyone who enjoys his music!! My only complaint about the evening revolves around the seating arrangement. We were waiting in line for a good number of hours, but they let people in from the bar first regardless. Then they let the people in line in to the theater door where we stood, waiting again, until they finally opened that too... at which time, it was an unorganized mass of running and pushing to get to the front. The people who ended up in front of us had been behind us in the line... and the people who were in front of us in the line and had been there all day, ended up behind us on the floor. This seems ridiculous to me, just let people in in an organized manner, in the way in which they arrived in line, like it SHOULD be, and there wouldn't be a problem, or the potential for people to be hurt in the mass of pushing, shoving, and running. This was not any fault of the bands, but directly related to the poor organization and professionalism of the venue.

I took my daughter and two of her friends and wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it. It was amazing! He is an amazing performer and his songs are beautifully written. My only disappointment was that it didn't last longer! I can't wait to see what this very talented and blessed young man does in the future! I also didn't like that we had to stand the entire show but it was a small venue so it wasn't too bad.

He had a lot of lights! It was literally so bright and beautiful at the same time. It was kinda hard to take pictures but still its Adam Young! And the best thing was that this place you can sit anywhere so the earlier you get there the best seats you have and get to see him really close. His guests were awesome Mat Kierman and Unwed Sailor. So much talent! He truly shows his passion because the way he expresses himself and dances to his music. :) Freakin awesome singer, we love him!!

Owl City rocks !! It was wonderful to see a performer that is genuine... who appreciates his audience, and delivers. The Unwed Sailors were great. Matt Kearney was an unexpected delight : ) We didn't know they were appearing. I will be downloading all three bands from itunes for sure. Next time around you might consider stopping by South Lake Tahoe for a show. Thanks again for an enjoyable evening at the Warfield Theater.

I only came to this concert to see Mat Kearney, who was one of the opening acts (he should have headlined!). Mat's performance was incredible and inspiring. I can't get enough of his music! He has wonderful stage presence, too, and when you see him play live, you can't help but feel you are witnessing a very special performance. He just shines - you can see he loves what he does. He played a lot of his popular songs and one from his new album, Young Love, which is coming out on August 2nd. His voice sounds just as fantastic live as on his albums. I left after Mat's performance, so I can't comment on Owl City. The other opening act, Unwed Sailor, was good. Their music, which was strictly instrumental, sounded like a cross between The Cure, U2, and the Kings of Leon.

Owl City was an amazing concert!! He was so amazing! I loved every single song he sang! The crowd was very chill too. Nobody pushed up against each other like in normal "mosh pits." I was standing in the very front and nobody was touching me. It was that chill! Adam was super friendly and he sang EXACTLY like he sounds on his album! He was soo nice and cute and awkward and adorable. If you EVER get a chance to attend an Owl City concert I completely and 100% recommend it! One of the most amazing nights ever!! :D

Owl City was the best! The music volume should have been turned down just a little bit so Adam Young's voice could be heard better when singing. A lot of the times the music volume was so loud that the lyrics weren't even audible.

This is my 3rd time seeing Adam Young and crew in concert. And, as always, it was an upbeat and beautiful performance! He played songs from his newest album "All Things Bright and Beautiful" but threw in a quite a few songs from his previous records "Ocean Eyes", "Of June" and "Maybe I'm Dreaming". He even kept cool when an audience member decided to go shirtless and running up on stage with him. Cracking a smile and a little laugh, Adam did wonderfully! I was 4th row and SO CLOSE TO HIM! Hope to see him again next year!

From the first song to the last, Adam Young and Co. show that just because you have an electronic album, it doesn't mean you can't make it into an amazing live show. Two drum sets, countless keyboards, a piano, guitars, a violin and more were all used in the show, and all the favorites sounded fresh and new with the live take on them. Definitely worth going to see live.

HelloOwlCity
Owl City was perfect for my 2 oldest children (14 & 11) to see as their first concert. We had a great time, Deas Vail and Lights were great as well. The price for tickets was awesome, we got into the concert right on time and we had a great view of the stage. The only negative things were that it was too hot during the concert (it was 82 outside so the air or a fan would have been nice) and the music playing between bands wasn't good at all.

Adam Young has released both electronica and pop recordings, but with this touring band (and skilled loop master backstage), this is LIVE music. It was a dynamic set, swinging between his anthems and a spare and beautiful cover of 99 Red Balloons. May be the best show I've seen at the Paradise in Boston.

Owl City fans are the absolute best. Being in a crowd of 1,000 people who all know all the words to your favorite songs is such a great experience. Adam Young is a no nonsense artist who simply relies on the song, lights and band to complete the show.

Owl City was everything I had hoped he would be and the music was phenomenal. The band members were really on fire and the sound quality was excellent. I loved the venue. It wasn't too big, but it provided a good atmosphere for the band and it was cozy! The only thing I didn't like was Owl City's opening act. I don't remember her name but she really didn't mesh well with Adam and his band. She seemed a bit trashy and basic white girl. A complete contradiction to Owl City. Everything but her was awesome and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Super talented musicians, especially Lead Guitar and Drums. Guitar player so precise and inventive. This concert was very under attended, a rarity for Owl City- maybe it was the date or the Jersey Shore being lame- whatever- but Adam performed as though he was singing to a sold out Madison Square Garden. This is the mark of a true professional. We hope he is around for decades. We wish the sound had been better as the presentation lacked crispness.

My 9 year old daughter and I saw Owl City in Cincinnati on 4-14-13. The musicians were very good, the live versions of his songs were good, and the band was very energetic but the bass was way too loud and over powering. There were a lot of songs where we could not hear the vocals or keyboards at all. He ended the show with Good Times, and had his keyboard player handle some of the lyrics and we couldn't hear a word she sang. This had the potential to be a really great show but his trademarks are the vocals, harmonies and synthesizers which we could barely hear. Our seats were half way up and dead center. The only other thing that was a personal wish was that he played almost everything from his newest album. I would have liked to have hear a little more from his older albums. Despite that, we would go again and generally enjoyed the show.

Great show and always too short. The overpowering, way too much bass drowns out what likely is beautifully played instrumentals by Steve, Daniel, Brielle and Jasper. Would love to hear more of Adam's voice and the instruments. Cannot get enough of this fabulous music.
