Wonderful performance. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect with the letter "reading" format, but I was captured right away. Heard two lives, connected but never connecting, unfold before me...one upward, and one spiraling down. Dramatic, tragic, but also seasoned with life's funny if not ironic moments. Alda is a star.

Candice Bergen and Alan Alda delivered performances that stirred every conceivable emotion of every patron in attendance. The play was so engaging, so captivating, and so entertaining that the audience was completely riveted throughout the entire performance. And the opportunity to see these two esteemed actors in these iconic roles was an experience I will never forget.

We absolutely LOVED Love Letters. Brian Dennehy and Carol Burnett were brilliant as always! It was a refreshing change from the overblown shows that rely on elaborate sets, costumes, etc rather than acting ability.

When I saw the two actors walk onto the stage, sit down at a desk on the bare stage, and begin to read from a script, I thought that I might be bored. Boy, was I wrong! The play was gripping and moving. The actors were excellent, especially Mia Farrow, and convinced me completely that they were childhood sweethearts who aged seamlessly in this 90 minute performance. I didn't want it to end! I know that the cast will be changing every few weeks, and it is hard to imagine anyone doing a better job than Mia Farrow. I wish she would perform on the stage more often.

One if the worst productions I've ever seen. Acting was wooden. Lines were read but still flubbed. Affect was blunted and child-like. Two thumbs down!

A simple table. Two chairs. Alda and Bergen walk on stage with no fanfare, and begin "reading" the love letters their characters wrote to one another. They start as letters from childhood and continue through to old age. Their facial expressions, intonations and body language were all that was needed to transport the audience from watching two actors at a table to a voyeuristic vantage point of a lifelong relationship. Beautifully written, beautifully acted. I loved it.

I am so very sad to say that I did not enjoy this show. I absolutely adore Alan Alda and Candice Bergen. The idea of them reading love letters they wrote to each other is a great concept, but the story that was told was not very interesting and predictable. I am so sorry...

We heard mixed reviews but went despite what we heard Because of these two actors..it was excellent!! Mr. Alda and ms. Bergen were on que Fun emotional and made you feel the disappointment of the addiction of texting has taken Over that beautiful emotion of love and putting pen to paper. The theatre and staff was wonderful and would be back for future venues. I don't like hearing the Lord's name in vain though understand it is part of the script. Wishing everyone a beautiful Christmas Season! Thank you

I have so much respect and admiration for Mr. Alan Alda and Candace Bergen and their acting but the content of the play and the reading out of scripts at a table for 90 minutes of Love Letters between 2 life time friends was disappointing. I would not recommend this especially since the tickets were so expensive.

Two chairs, two desks, two people. What can come of that kind of setting? A charming life story of two people with class, dignity, humor, pathos and love. What could be better? Starts off a little slow, but it must be heard. Those early letters give us who our characters are and where they "come from". They introduce us to them and give us the basis of the story. If you don't need to be sung to or shocked as a necessary form of entertainment, go see it. Candice Bergen and Alan Alda - perfect team.

We wondered if a two person play with no sets or action could hold our attention. It certainly did! Due to the sparkling and profound dialogue filled with humor and some pathos, and witnessing the evolution of two people, the play was captivating! But most of all, couldn't imagine any better players than Candice Bergen and Alan Alda. They were perfect in communicating, with no props so many emotions and stages of life. They totally held our attention. We loved it. And it made us yearn (being older) for the days of letter-writing and its anticipation.

I went to see "Love Letters" knowing only what the premise of the show was, but not entirely sure of much else. The play begins simply: no announcements, just two well-loved stars unceremoniously walking to their respective chairs at a plain table in the middle of the stage. Once seated, they begin. After an initial few minutes when as were trying to figure out just what the relationship was between them, it all fell into place. They are reading letters they wrote to each other as children. As the show goes on, it draws you in so completely; you can't wait to hear the replies. It is so beautifully written, with such charm, and I am sure it would be interesting/enjoyable with another combination of actors. But I can't say strongly enough how perfectly magical Candace Bergen and Alan Alda were in these roles!! I don't see any two other actors having that same connection on stage. It seemed like they WERE those people...Candace the wiseacre "Murphy Brown" we all grew to love, and Alan Alda the charming, funny, heart-on-his-sleeve guy who often had a hard time saying what he really felt. As their relationship began to evolve, so did the dynamic between them. And then you couldn't take your eye's off them.... I don't want to say too much and give away any of the poignant (and unexpected) moments that come. It was simply wonderful and unforgettable in every way. My husband loved it as much as I did, and he was not that enthusiastic when I suggested it! But if you can get tickets to see these two marvelous actors, GO!!! I can't stress how totally believable and special they were together.

I am a little prejudiced since I am a big fan of Alan Alda. But this was amazing. Both he and Candice Bergen virtually disappeared into their characters. It's hard to believe that a person can sit for 90 minutes and listen to two people read dialogue (probably memorized anyway) and be totally transfixed. It is easy to become immersed in the story of these two lives that are intertwined. It's hard to explain why it's great, but I highly recommend it!

We have long been fans of Alan Alda and Candice Bergen, so it was definitely a special treat to see them together on the Broadway stage. Although the set was bare bones simple and there was no movement or music, the words, expressions, cadence, silence and emotion created characters and told a wonderful story is less than 2 hours. The characters had depth, their intersected loves had a variety of twists and turns, and the innuendos were great.

I am an entertainer and I hate to send out a bad review. These are great great actors with a terrible play...if you can call it that. They spent and hour and a half reading (actually reading!!) love letters to each other over a lifetime....what a bore....I could barely stay awake... It got good reviews, I guess some people like that ....but what a disappointment to spend all those bucks on 2 actors sitting at a table on a blank stage reading their letters.... sorry....hated it...even though I love Alan Alda and Candace Bergen.

This play was very interesting. The format is that there are only two actors and they are sitting at a table on the stage the whole time and reading letters their characters wrote to each other. The actors were very good in being able to convey so much without traditional movement on the stage. Can we just say, "Brilliant!?" Love Letters was an amazing experience! To see two of the most incredible entertainers on one stage, with no props except a simple desk and two chairs and no eye contact between themselves, make a love story come alive the way Carol Burnett and Brian Dennehy did was a privilege to witness! Funny, sweet, sad, frustrating. Impossible to find just the right words to describe all the emotions one feels when seeing this performance. Alda and Bergen were first rate with their sometimes dry, always spot-on delivery. They were the characters in the play, not the characters they have played in other performances, movies or TV shows. And they brought life to the telling of a story through letter-writing. Witty and charming. The letters were written in the vernacular of the time, exactly the way a child, teenager, or adult would have written. First rate performance!

Rarely can a play evoke feelings of happiness, hysteria, intrigue, warmth and sadness. Love Letters does exactly that as it moves across the spectrum of human emotions, with caring, compassion and love as its underlying emotion felt throughout the letters. Alan Alda was wonderful. But Candice Bergen stole the show. Her voice inflection and tone in reading the letters was awe-inspiring and really made you understand the feelings of her character. She made us part of her thoughts and emotions. I'm disappointed its run on Broadway ended, but recommend this play to everyone as it moves to other venues around the country. Bravo Ms. Bergen and Mr. Alda. Bravo.

This play is consisted of two actors sitting alongside each other and reading letters the characters exchanged over several decades. This means it heavily relies on the actors to convey their emotions through minimal changes in tone and facial hints, without boring the audience of course. Alan Alda and Candice Bergen did just that, not being overdramatic but fully conveying the emotions behind the letters (which ranged from laugh to tears...). I was left in tears at the end and would recommend it to anyone with their heart in the right place.

This show has the two actors sitting at a table reading letters. The actors do not look at each other or interact. Their voice intonation tells their emotion. It takes a bit of getting used to. The fact that the actors are a series of well-known celebrities makes up for this difference. I don't know if I would have rated it the same if the actors were unknown. I saw it with Candice Bergen and Alan Alda, two true favorites of mine. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the performance, I would have liked to see them move from the table and present the reading of the letters differently.

I have always had a crush on Alan Alda and liked Candice Bergen a lot, which was why I wanted to see this production. Knew that they were basically reading letters and did not know anything else. The story line was so much better than I had expected- thought it might just be a sappy love story which it certainly is not. I was tearing up at the end- as was Candice Bergen. It was difficult to select which duo's performance to see .... I think we nailed it! Alan Alda as always, is excellent. He could read "Dick and Jane" books for 90 minutes and I would be ridiculously happy just to be there - having heard his voice throughout a lifetime of MASH reruns (at my grandmas house, my mom's and now mine) does that - he's so consistently awesome it's like finding your favorite comfort food in a theater on 47th in the best possible way. Seeing him live just made me smile. Such a gentleman from start to finish - by holding out a chair, giving a generous lead in to every line and sassy retort, to escorting his partner off the stage. Candice Bergen (LOVE her!) was incandescent - her performance was so funny, genuine, and touching - her delivery and her expressions had us howling one minute and sniffling the next. Just wonderful! The theater is smaller and more intimate, so sitting on the main floor would be recommended - you will get a better view of the subtle glances and non-verbal exchanges that make this play so simple yet powerful. Sorely tempted to see it again with another pairing, but if we don't, we thoroughly enjoyed this show and the two master actors who helmed it. Bravo!

I've seen many incarnations of "Love Letters" but the performance starring Candice Bergan and Alan Alda was by far the best interpretation. Alan Alda brought a genuine attitude to his letters. Youthful and eager early on, steady and certain as he grew into middle age and smart, caring and warm as he aged. Candice Bergan was at her charming best throughout: soft, sweet, snarky, scared. Nuance never seemed to enter into any of her performances, this piece was perfectly nuanced. Outstanding!

We came to the Sunday matinee performance as lovers of the work of Alan Alda from the days of MASH, movies, TV stuff. Great orchestra seats. We were enthralled by the dialogue of "letters". We were deeply touched by the emotions shared by Candice Bergen. Some "twists" in the story were amazing. Tears in our eyes demonstrated the love we felt for Love Letters. GO see it.

The story and the actors that portrayed the characters were moving and heartfelt. Good chemistry between Mr. Alda and Ms. Bergen. It was a memorable experience. The theater is a beautiful venue. No seat is a bad seat.

Wow, Candice and Alan did an remarkable job in this show. Having seen this show several times before the actors really have to get the characters down. Alan and Candice nailed it perfectly. Candice even cried at the end. Totally out of character but a great touch. It looked very real!!! I also got to sit beside A. R Gurney's sister in law and her husband. They gave me a great insight into the show and how the characters are based on friends of Mr. Gurney. Great show!!!

I didn't know what to expect when we bought tickets for love letters. Even when we sat down in our seats we were still mystified seeing a table and two chairs. It's a two person play where they sit and read letters that they sent to each other. Very well done with acting that you wouldn't expect we laughed, we cried, we cared about them more and more as the show went on. Great job by Alan Alda and Candice Bergen. Highly recommended. Don't miss it.

These two veteran actors truly outshined the material. I am thrilled that I had the opportunity to see them on a Broadway Stage.

Given the fact that Broadway theatre seats are incredibly uncomfortable with no leg room, the play is mercifully short at 90 mins with no intermission so you don't have to worry about people crawling over you. That said, the play is quote good and the actors, both accomplished, were not only starry to gaze at but unexpectedly moving. I had a terrific time and enjoyed it immensely.

The simplicity of this play emphasized the characters. It was easy to listen intently while enjoying the performances of Alan Alda and Candice Bergen. The "love letters" flowed seamlessly from event to event during the lifetime of the characters. Highly recommended.
