My wife and I took our 7 year old grandaughter to Chicago and Comedy Sportz for the first time. The show was very good and many laughs were had. The content for a 7 year old was appropriate and there was no off color comedy.

I have to say. I was a bit skeptical of a 'fun for all' type of place. We went for my son's 12th bday... and i was hoping it wasn't going to be too kiddish. However, i was blown away at how entertaining, fun, interactive and did i mention "FUNNY" it was! My son absolutely loved it and wanted to come back soon! This is a great place for some fun for all! It was great! Great show!

Excellent evening. I've seen a bunch of improv shows in Europe, but nothing compared to what I saw here. If you don't go watch this, you'll be doing yourself a disfavor !

Comedysportz is a fun event for teenagers and adults of all ages. By asking the audience for advice they create a new show every time you see them. Being located right next to the El (for Chicago) it is easily accessable and worth the ride. Cheap drinks and loads of different shows for all ages.

I went with my 11 year old son and three of his friends looking for something fun to end the day with on NY's eve. The special 5:00 pm show turned out perfectly for us. The extra touch of party hats, horns, countdown and cider to toast the NY someplace in the Atlantic were really nice, especially for the children. A very talented, funny, clever, high energy cast. It was definitely something different for the kids and very fast-paced, so they may or may not have gotten all the punchlines, but they did enjoy it. Can see the show getting a little out of hand with a really young or rowdy crowd as mentioned in other reviews, but the "referee" was in control and involved the audience well. Overall, something unique to take the kids to. I look forward to going back for another night of family-friendly comedy.

ComedySportz is the best family fun for our gang hands down! I only wish they had a better system for admission seeing as they are general admission and you know how people are (last to arrive, first to be seated????)

Liked to be able to find a club offering a great improv show that I could take my parents, a child in college and a child of 12! All enjoyed it and it's in a great area of Chicago to have dinner before. Need to get there 1/2 hr early. The venue is small and the seating is first come/first served.

this show was very funny and it was my first improv show. the teams were both equally as funny. i was a little hesistant that since it was family friendly it wouldnt be as good. it was actually way better the whole time we were laughing out loud. there is a pretty good bar there too with good service. i would recomend it to anyone that wants to have a good laugh and doesnt want to do the same old comedy club thing.

Don't bother with the 8pm show if you're hoping for comedy. This is Nickelodeon style "mad libs" at its most annoying. I haven't seen the 10pm show, but dont bother with the 8pm show if you're looking for what's typically thought of as an "improv comedy show."

SOOOOO funny & clean. I knew Comedians could be funny without being vulgar. Two thumbs up kids, well they're kids to me anyway, hahaha. I flew all the way from S California to Chicago to take a friend to the show for her birthday. She LOVED it too. Great times. Thank you Comedy Sportz!

an improv group that gets it! WITTY YES, Clever YES. But most of all they were FUNNY. Drop dead hilarious! My friends and I went down and bought tickets to the next show we were laughing so hard from the first one. and it was even better! True professionals that truly enjoy making people laugh. A must see in the Chicago Improv Scene! And I've seen them all.

After reading some of the other reviews here, I had mediocre expectations for this show... But IT WAS HILARIOUS! My mom laughed so hard and still talks about it. Which I'm happy to have her replace her last improv experience (which included bestiality. it wasn't funny.) with this one. The energy in the room was so amazing, the performers really kept us entertained and the format of the show was fun. I think if you want a show that isn't based on trying to "shock" you or "offend sensibilities" to be funny, then this is the place for you

Visiting Chicago from a smaller city where our ComedySportz players are fantastic, I figured "bigger pool of talent should equal better fun." Boy, was I wrong!! I know the entire fault didn't lie with the cast (a couple of the players were quite good), but it was the longest 47 minutes of a paid "entertainment" event ever. The crowd was small, 95% college kids, but it was, in plain words, JUST NOT FUNNY. Save your money and get the extra hour of sleep.

Goofy and cheesy - not very funny and lots of silly extras that where annoying and not needed. Go to see a Second City Show instead. Not worth even half the price of admission. Absolutely awful.

My sister came into town and we caught the Comedysportz show on a Saturday night. We were exhausted from a day of walking around downtown and had just planned on catching an improv show after dinner at Leona's. The cast was so energetic that by the time intermission came around, we'd forgotten how tired we were. The cast had a great rapport with the audience and with each other, and even the ref had us cracking up. Had we not done so much that day already, we probably would have stayed for the later show. Basically, if you need a good laugh and you don't at least think of going to Comedysportz, you're missing out.

I brought some friends from out of town here and we had a great time! I was a little worried at first that it would be lame because it is a family friendly show, but it was still really funny. The comedians had so much energy on stage and were so quick. I've been to Zanies and liked that, but this was totally different. I recommend it!

The folks at comedy sportz were very nice. The show was not what I expected though. I guess I don't expect a gradeschool kids birthday party at a Saturday night show. I figured one of the comedians kids was the birthday boy, but Saturday nights are for adults. Kiddie shows should be kept for daylight hours.VThis really spoiled it for my wife and I. Ok, that said the comedians were funny. If you like the TV show , Who's line is it anyway, you will like this show. About the same level of funny. Will I go again? Eh, maybe. Recommend the pre midnight show to friends? No. Go to Zanies or Second city.

Bottom line, the show is meant for familys, so if you have some kids then it is a great place to go to that you might find some enjoyment in. However, for a young adult like myself, I wouldn't reccomend the show mainly because most young adults don't like a show that is G rated like this one.

I have seen Comedy Sportz many times before. I went to the 6:00 show, and because of that, there were many kids. There was also a much smaller audience. Because of this, the energy was lower, and many of the jokes had to be lowered to the kid's level. However, all of the performers still did a great job, and after the first couple games I was in hysterics.

I will always respect people who do improve, it's very hard to not only be topical, and funny, but clean enough for the younger audience. I thought there was no way to keep it "clean", but they did, and I was entertained for the whole show.

We visited Chicago from London England on the lookout for some challenging comedy but sadly we were disappointed here. This was an evening show which seemed to be pitched at college students but in fact seemed skewed to 12 year olds - with large parties of these in the audience. But even 12 year olds can be treated like adults (without necessarily offering 'adult' ie blue material). The standard of improv here was pretty routine and obvious - often very laboured and distinctly lacking an any sense of irony. Being brought up on the world-class improv of London's Comedy Store we'd hoped for something even edgier from our US cousins - we also visted Second City and that was better but still not outstanding - more under graduate. Like comedysportz just not mature or sophisticated enough. Frankly both were a disappointment.

I was in Chicago with my 17-year-old and 15-year-old who are hard to impress these days. Despite the grumpy attitudes going in, they laughed and thought it was fun (even though they wouldn't admit it). It is a nice middle-ground between something toddler-ish and something that has a minimum entrance age of 21. And, it was really easy to find off the El.

This show exceeded my expectations by far! The two teams gave incredibly funny performances and I just kept wondering how they can come up with those lines without seeming to think about it. The idea of having two teams battle each other playing improv games with a referee presenting the show is a great one and makes this show special. The audience was included, too, giving suggestions and the teams would get volunteers up on stage. Every actor could relate really well to the audience, too, since the chairs and tables were all really close to the stage which was a big plus. I loved it and I'm gonna go again for sure! I can only recommend going and finding out for yourselves what an amazing show they put together.

My boyfriend and I went to this show while we were visiting Chicago. We both act and perform and he used to do some improv. We love improv so our expectations were high. I have to say they were met and even exceeded! I loved that the show was family friendly - I think it makes the performers have to think a little harder and faster to make a joke that why anyways. I loved the audience participation as well.

The show was good and tendered for younger audiences which was great. I did not think the improv was truly as improv as it could have been based on attending an improv show for kids in New York a few months ago. They (NYC) truly went with the recommendations by the audience which was truly improv and so truly funny that the cast could not stop laughing a few times. I felt this show was more controlled not as improv as we have experienced .... But That said I thought the comedians were very good.

I liked the low-key venue. The comedians, though not the cream of the crop, were pretty good. I enjoyed the a variety of comedic styles among them. None felt particularly local/Chicagoan, but that didn't matter. I say the show is worth it if you live there or if you're on a long enough vacation (mine was 7 days). If you're looking to explore Chicago in a shorter time, however, you should probably leave this show out of your schedule.

Very funny show. The show was upbeat and nonstop laughter. Also, they made a point to make the show family friendly (i.e. the audience was not even allowed to make inappropriate suggestions), so this would be one of the few shows you'd be able to bring children to. Yet myself, my elderly mother, and my teenage nephew all laughed throughout the show.

I bought tickets to ComedySportz on a recommendation from my sister who saw the show with her daughter last summer. I took my two granddaughters ages 8 and 17. The three of us loved the show! We laughed and laughed! The audience involvement is great! The ad lib comedy is fantastic! We will go again when we visit Chicago. Was looking for a nice family friendly venue, though my kids are in their early Twenties, don't enjoy going to raunchy shows with them! They loved it, and my wife and I also loved the show. It was great to see even families with very young kids there...all had a great time and the performing staff there really did a great job engaging the younger kids. It was a really great show. They were doing some sort of prohibition theme, and that threw me off initially. But once the show got going it was great. The ref was really interactive and funny, which isn't what I normally expect from Comedysportz. Usually they are a little less hands-on, but this guy really knew how to work a crowd. Overall it was a really great experience and would recommend to anyone/everyone. My only complaint, if there is something to complain about, is that there was an absence of food on the menu.. Not really necessary, just something to note.

ComedySportz is improv done as a competition between two teams. There are specific events that the teams challenge one another to. It is true improve so, while there is structure, the comedy is spontaneous. They keep the show clean -- there is a penalty for foul language or crude jokes -- so it's family friendly. In addition, the approach is something that kids (>8) could relate to. We took a family group and had an enjoyable time at an early afternoon show. By the time you get your ticket and pay associated fees, it is almost $30 per person. It is a 90 minute show. It doesn't have the polish of some other comedy events. It felt like this was high for something of this nature. On the positive side, the refreshements are very reasonably priced. It is in a great neighborhood with lots of dining options so you can make an evening of it. Parking isn't all that easy but there is street parking and you just have to go out and "feed the meter" thoughout the evening.

I'm a Comedy Sportz fan. There's one in Ferndale, Michigan that our family has gone to so we really wanted to check out the Chicago show. The improvisers are great. They get the audience involved and are able to keep it clean (this is not easy in improv). Not a bad seat in the house but I recommend you get there early to get the seats close to the stage.

We took our 12 & 14 year old boys to Chicago for the weekend. I wasn't sure about comedy sportz but most of the reviewers seemed to like it so we thought we would give it a try. We went to the 10PM show on a Friday so the crowd was small. The venue was small which added to the excitement. We really felt a part of the show. As far as the show it was fantastic. They made it clear from the beginning that the show would be clean and it was. However, the teams were hilarious. My boys loved and and so did my wife and I. We all laughed very hard through the entire show. The 1.5 hours flew by. The show was high energy with music clips pumping through the speakers to keep everyone excited. We would certainly go back. When they opened the doors we were able to site where ever we wanted.

This was a great time. I wanted to take the family to experience improv without having to worry about them being overwhelmed by profanity and crudeness that is often the case. It was hilarious improv. The performers are very talented, there is tons of audience interaction without forcing people to participate. The sports competition theme added to the fun. Highly recommended for anyone who likes improv, but the family-friendly atmosphere (and the twin sisters - one on stage as ref and one in the booth - added to this element) was expertly done and much appreciated.

Good if you have kids. They will laugh and maybe go on stage if they volunteer.

Fun night out! Great to be able to take the teenagers with and not be embarrassed by the act. The guy in the audience who had to wear the bag over his head for using blue language -- hilarious! Talented, energetic cast!

We were looking for something all of our kids (age 13-20) could enjoy. This fit the bill. The cast was hilarious and very enjoyable to watch. Nice to have a comedy show this is funny without being crude.

Thought this was fun to go to but a little generic. Might have been that they were trying to play it cool with an all ages audience but I would rather go to a comedy show that is a little less PG. The improv comedians were good and very talented - I can tell that they are a very creative bunch.

The shows here are funny but are too short. I've been to Comedy Sportz in Rock Island, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis. They don't squeeze three shows into a Saturday night so it isn't so rushed. Instead of 6, 8, and 10 on Saturday, why not 5:30, 8, and 10:30? Make the shows a bit longer and not as rushed - and you will have more time to sell stuff at intermission. BTW, best I've seen is Rock Island & I've been there several times. The don't have the competition for talent over there so all the best improv comedy talent in that area works at Comedy Sportz Rock Island. Well worth it if you are going to be in that area - and if you can do the no-kids 309 show at Rock Island, don't miss it. The guys who do that have worked together for almost 20 years. You won't see tighter improve anywhere.

They serve drinks so make sure to drink a lot because they don't allow any adult jokes and have kids give ideas to improv it ends up with a lack of comedy. The show feels like watching a bad episode of sesame street. Overall if you want to take your 5 year old on a Saturday night go ahead anything else please go to any other club in Chicago as this one is the worst one I have ever been too. It's a shame they didn't pay me for my time.

Very entertaining and engaging. Our group had people ages 7 to 74 and everyone enjoyed it and said they would go again. The "referee" was awesome at engaging the audience, even those who were somewhat hesitant. Will definitely return when we're in Chicago again.

This is a great show for families! The host keep it clean and it was truly funny. Perfect night out with the family. Good news you can go again and again because each show is different with the improv. Highly recommended for birthday parties!

The ComedySportz Theatre was a fast-paced, funny, and fun evening. Excellent improv with really high energy and good audience involvement. It's easy to travel by train and the venue is great for all ages. I would love to go again!

This is my second time seeing ComedySportz and it never disappoints! It is the best comedy show (of any type) I have ever seen! The comedians are high-energy and hilarious. You could see this show night after night and I will always be different. Seriously, the best fun night out event in Chicago!

We attended a recent Saturday night performance with our 11 and 9 year old. The comedy was VERY funny. Great fun for all of us with the range of jokes hitting the mark for both kids and parents. The do a good job of "keeping it clean," while still maintaining a gut busting pace for 90+ minutes. Our son has been retelling some of the jokes non-stop since we attended the performance a few days ago.

We had such a good time at the 10pm show and laughed nonstop. Towards the end they mentioned we could get ticked for their midnight show called the Hot Karl at half the price. Since we were having such a good time already, we decided to stay for one more. Wish we didn't. It wasn't terrible, but def wasn't worth staying the extra hour. To each his own, but I didn't like the vulgar language and over the top swearing.

Some really funny parts, some not so funny. Good format. Could have used better explanation of what the various games were about. All in all, though, good clean fun.

...you're crying from laughing so hard! These actors work very hard to entertain their audience. This is our second time and I'd forgotten just how funny they are. Worth every penny.

This was our second time at ComedySportz and we had a BLAST! Lots of laughs, excellent talent, and a great venue because you feel like part of the action almost anywhere you sit. They do a good job of getting the audience involved without going over the top on it. Also, this is a family friendly show with clean language - no cussing, no sex jokes... and still hiiarious! That part is a great change of pace if you like improv comedy but don't want to listen to bad language all night. I highly recommend ComedySportz!

The show at Comedysportz was fun. The comedians were very entertaining. There is audience partticipation but mostly for coming up with categories, etc. Will definitely go again!

The ComedySportz show was recommended to us by a friend, and we are now recommending it to everyone. It's a great comedy show for all ages. Our 11 year old asked if we could go there every time we visit Chicago. We'll definitely go again. It's hard to find comedy that's clean and good for the whole family.
