Saw Devendra at Port city music Hall in Portland Maine, a great venue, and a fantastic show that left us with lasting smiles and energy. This group of guys were such multitalented and personable performers. So fun to watch, and to groove with. One of the best shows I've seen in a while:) Love Devendra!

The venue was quite different from others I've been in the past. The synagogue is a lovely place and the sound was great. Roberto Amarante opened for Devendra along with his band which included Fabrizio Moretti (The Strokes) as the drummer. When Devendra came out the crowd got really excited and we all stood up from our seats to have a better view of him. The songs he played were splendid and everything was great! The venue offers refreshments of all sorts (sodas, beers, wine). Overall, my experience was delightful and I'm dying to see Devendra again!!!

devendra and the band were awesome... the opening act was a little too obscure for my taste, and i was a little grossed out that the venue smelled like vomit, but it was a good time nonetheless.

I was lucky enough to see Devendra Banhart play at The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan. An intimate venue with great acoustics. The Groggs (the band name of the night) accompanied Devendra for most of the songs, but on several occasions would leave Devendra to play solo acoustic songs. He played material from several of his albums, ranging from "The Charles C. Leary" which as Devendra had announced he hadn't played since he started touring 10 years ago, as well as newer tracks such as "Angelika". The show was very energetic, with lot of delightful banter and rambling in between songs. Another interesting note is that songs from the projects of the band members were also played. Luckey Remington showed off his singing skills, as well as Rodrigo Amarante playing "No One's Better Sake" from his project Little Joy, and lastly a debut of a new Priestbird song from drummer Gregory Rogove. Probably one of the best things about the show was the fact that you could tell the guys were enjoying themselves, even though they played for over two hours straight. Nothing sucks more when you go to a show and the band plays straight from the record. But not with Devendra, his was unforgettable. I would definitely recommend, and I hope he doesn't take too long to come back to town.

Devendra and the boys played soft to hard, exciting butterflies in my stomach that made me want to jump out of my seat and dance... so I did, feeling just like a child. Somewhere between the opening song and when the guitar men gathered to play at their drummer like a jam session of friends, I realized that my enjoyment matched that which I felt at the Flaming Lips. Thanks dudes.

probably the best show I saw all year (I even went to bonnaroo for 3 days this summer). We got there late so we had to sit in thebalcony, but we had a great view anyway. What can I say, the man is talented. His acoustic performance material was great, and the band performance was just as good. The best part of the night, i'm sure many will agree, is when during his last song a girl from the audience came onto the corner of the stage dancing..then another girl, and within a few minutes the stage was crowded with young girls dancing around all the band members. Probably one of the coolest audience participations i've ever witnessed. Then he came back for an encore afterwards! Definately gonna see him next time in Chicago, next time I'll get there early.

Devendra never ceases to amaze in pure talent and a light heart. This show was a mix of new and old. The band really rocked out hard with Greg (on drums) leading an almost Zepplin sounding song and the closing with Long Haired Child with audience members joining the band in dance on the stage was an experience to be envied. The venue was set with chairs which it usually doesn't have. That was a bit of a down side as you weren't able to edge your way up closer to the stage. The sound could have been bumped up too, as it was sometimes difficult to hear Devendra in between songs. That by no means was any reflection of the bands fantastic performance.

Labels are a mess; they are limiting and misguided, unless you are buying low-sodium soup. To call this guy and what he does "Freak-Folk" misses the mark and truncates the group's talents. Devendra and the band of musicians (who have their own bands) displayed in their live show (as in their studio recordings) a vast knowledge of various genres of music, from scaled down acoustic numbers to hard-driving rock jams, from meandering hypnotic pieces to south-of-the-border stylings. It's eclectic - if you need a label. The band was tight, as usual, allowing Devendra freedom to display his inimitable vocal range, and use his wiry slinky body as an instrument through which to celebrate his joy at making music, sometimes stumbling around the stage with his gangly legs, laughing at himself, and having a real rapport with the crowd. Devendra is a conjurer on stage, evoking spirits from rock's past, the murky blues of the 30's, and even goddesses of Venezuela (Maria Lionza) to create something truly unique and impressive. Kudos to the awesome crowd for behaving themselves while they were up on stage, dancing with the band! Happy to see everyone knocking themselves out without anyone getting hurt!

I've been a big fan of Devendra's for only a year and wasn't sure how his sound would translate live, but from the moment him and his band came on stage and rocked out to Long Haired Child I felt confident it was going to be an incredible show. Surely enough, it was just that.

Watching devendra was a little like watching Jim Morrison about to self destruct on stage. There were definitely good parts especially when he was solo on stage for a bit... saw him a couple years back @ the Granada and it was a completely different show! I discovered Devendra last year and have fallen deep for this dude's music. I was happy to see he packed Terminal 5 (despite the unbearable Adam Greene, with the exception of one or two songs that were fittingly ridiculous... in a good way, sort-of) and was relieved to see Devendra was as good as he sounds on his albums. I took my best friend who is a classical composer and usually dislikes everything but classical music, yet he really appreciated Devendra. He noted the particular warbling effect Devendra employs is the sign of a well-trained vocalist. The variety of Devendra's melodic experiments captivated him. ...And I, well... "le sigh"! Of course I already love the music, but the boy looks like an A-list actor now. ((That was me that sweetly belted,"I like your haircut!!" between songs.)) So catch some Devendra STAT if he's in your town....And gosh darn it,someone tell that man i love him!!!!

Although both shows carried such different vibes, both were incredible. The minute Adam Green stumbled on stage with that Pirate hat and red jacket I knew it would be a good show. He seemed a little drunk at first, but his delivery was perfect (and when are pirates sober anyhow?)The songs were fun to sing along to, even if you didn't know them. He was all over the place but it was fun and entertaining, and I was sad to see him go. But once Devendra came in with that Godly Ora of his, things got serious, in an amazing and brilliant way. He was so poised and clean cut, even had on a tailored suit. He looked different than his usual self, but like the moon we all change! He started off with an older song "Long Haired Child" and I moved into roller coaster of moods, from dancing to tears ("I Remember") and back to groovin'. He was so sweet, and Luckey Remington and Noah Georgeson's solos were also great, brilliant. The whole show was a success in my book!

I saw Devendra play at Terminal 5 in NYC and I heard bad things about the venue, but I actually really liked it. It was a chill spot with a bunch of bars and a cool roof where you can smoke and get bbq food. I love Devendra and I think he played really well but it definitely wasn't the best show I've been to. Overall it was a really good time, but it doesn't compare to the Edward Sharpe concert I went to a few weeks ago - now THAT was amazing!

Coming from New Haven to see Devendra (I missed him in Paris, France 4 years ago) we were very excited. First disappointment was the concert time, not at all 8:00pm but 10:15pm. That makes a huge difference when you asked your friends to babysit your 13 months old daughter. 2nd disappointment was Adam: awful to my hears, music was nice but he doesn't know how to sing. Hopefully Devendra came right on time, he's a hell of a musician and performer!! It is just too bad that the sound was so ugly, we couldn't hear the guitar parts clearly. We had good time listening to music from his various albums and enjoyed the fact that he changed the arrangements for several songs. I wouldn't necessarily go back to terminal 5 to see him again but it was great overall

The venue was very clean and spacious, two things that I find to be quite nice when everyone is standing in such close proximity to one another. The dimmed lights and cafe atmosphere were befitting for Devendra's style, as was the venue itself, having a smaller, cozier feeling environment. Unaware that Devendra had gotten a trim, I was almost convinced that it wasn't him at first. I would have preferred him to have his long locks and juju air; the trimmed look seemed more docile and conventional. It was just difficult to adjust to him wearing a sports jacket and button-down shirt when I was expecting a jungle book-esque type appearance, but his mannerisms were still jaunty and somewhat silly at times as expected. Overall, the performance was stellar; the band played with a drive, and the entire show had an underlying kinetic energy that made you want to rumba. So despite the absence of flowing mane and presence of conventional attire, the show was mellow, melodic and fantastic.

Entering the Regency Ballroom, I was as giddy as a schoolgirl. I really liked the separate rooms for merch, first aid, booze, etc. I proceeded to my balcony seat overlooking the stage and patiently watched the room fill up with quite a variety of characters. Dev must be happy for bringing such a variety of people together :) The atmosphere of the ballroom was a perfect setting for the music that followed. The opening act Dorothy was fantastic :) Beautiful voice singing very sad, heartfelt, and powerful songs! After listening to an awesome playlist, cheers whomever made it , The grogs and devendra took the stage! They opened with an awesome version of "long haired child" which pumped up everyone in the room! I have to say I've always enjoyed Devendra's fun loving music and I've seen him before, but the musicianship of this show was perfect!! The Vocal harmonies sung by the entire band were flawless, I haven't heard a tight group like that in a long time. Devendra then started playing a number of solo songs which I wasn't expecting, but it was an awesome surprise "little yellow spider", "the body breaks", acoustic "bad girl" with Dorothy supporting vocals, "a sight to behold", "charles c. leary"...amazing! The grogs are made up of very talented songwriters who all got their time to shine on stage and each played a song. This band just looks like they have fun on stage and I wish more groups today were like that. BOTTOM LINE! If you have a chance to go see DEVENDRA...GO!! I drove from Reno, NV and got back home at 3:30 am, but it was so worth it!!!!!!!

Despite the release of a more pop-rock oriented album which prompted this tour, Devendra Banhart and the Grogs gave an amazing performance with plenty of moments with Devendra alone on stage with his guitar or a piano. Strong guest appearance by a female singer for "Bad Girl." Every time I see this ensemble, they are more acoustically polished and having more and more fun on stage. See them if you ever have a chance!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought tickets for this show. Devendra's music is unique and obscure, and I didn't know if I would actually like it. Surprise Surprise!! I had a marvelous time! His show was upbeat, dancey, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them enjoy playing music. Would have liked the show to have still been at the Warfield. The Recency Ballroom is a beautiful venue, however, the floor is flat which makes it impossible to see the stage when you're only 5 something. The Warfield would have been a better choice as the floor slants upward, and I think this gives everyone a better view of what's going on around them.

Every Devendra fans dream. The venue was tight-knit, which meant more opportunity for close proximity to the stage. Ambiance was great. The only thing I would necessarily speak poorly of is the long wait for the opening act and Devendra. The actual concert was mind-blowing. Both with the Grogs and solo, Devendra was spectacular. I'd recommend the show to anyone.

Well I was actually going to see the opening band, First Aid KIt but i had heard great things about Devendra so i decided to check it out. it took a couple songs before the sound guys got it just right but once the sound was ironed out. the venue was smaller so it was more of an intimate feeling to it, he rocked it out just the same, everyone was dancing and having a great time. now the opening band First Aid Kit their voices are haunting and ethereal, you could tell that they were all about making an emotional connection with their audience, after their set they met with fans signed peoples records and took pictures. they were hanging out and watching Devendra play his show. the girls from First Aid Kit are from Sweden but play traditional style american folk music

I've been anxious to see Devendra Banhart perform ever since I first heard the "I feel just like a child" track. I've followed his work since, and it has only been a worth while experience to see his progress as a musician. I was very surprised to see such a small turn out for his performance in Dallas at the Palladium Ballroom. The large crowds I had usually seen him rock on the internet may have been all festivals with other musicians on the bill, but make no mistake, the large crowds love him. I wasn't too disappointed in a small turn out as it made the performance more intimate, however, I felt that he deserved a larger crowd for the energy he put out that night. The night started out with the opener First Aid Kit (i think that was their name). A trio with 2 females and one male drummer, which did quite well in their performance. It really wasn't my style of music, but for what it was, they played some very mellow tracks that the audience didn't really respond well to. A little bit after 9pm Devendra Banhart came up to start their performance with "Long Haired Child". The crowd was pumped, but for the first 3 or 4 songs, the sound was very bad. You couldn't hear anything but guitar, and the vocals were so low, even Devendra had to ask the crowd if he could be heard. Stopping in mid song, he requested that the sound man turn up the vocals, and provide some more monitor, and show up some lights, that for some reason just turned off for the first 15 minutes. His performance was very dynamic, and he sang each of his songs differently than what you would listen off the cd. Doing some solos like, "I remember", really gave the audience a sense of his musical talent. Devendra Banhart and the Grogs were top notch for such a small crowd, and my only real complaint was the Palladium Ballroom's sound-man for running the vocals on DB so low. The majority of the show we could not hear him singing. My only nitpick about the band was that the bass player (who's name slips me right now) looked very bored throughout the performance. All the other guys looked like they were having a great time. Sadly around 1045pm, Devendra said good night after returning for an encore, and gave Dallas a memory in excellence. I definitely look forward to his return sooner than later.

The show started off with a really good opening act, First aid Kit. Once Devendra and the Grogs came on there was plenty of energy to spare. The sound was off at first, the vocals were a bit low but by the third or fourth song they had gotten it down. They played all my favorites and even came back for an encore. After the show the guys stuck around and made time for their fans, to sign autographs, and take pictures, which I though was really nice seeing as they had a show early the next day. All in all I don't think the show coulda gone any better!.

I loved every minute of Devendra Banhart's show at the Palladium although, to be fair, I am such a huge fan that he would have had to really put some effort into making me not enjoy myself. It was a nice, intimate crowd since everyone was at ACL and, despite some endearingly imperfect lighting/sound issues in the beginning, the quality of the performance was great. Seahorse was so good - I was so excited that the moment I love with the guitar (you know the part) was even more powerful live than it is on the album. His music is so beautiful and performing style is so unique that it was a really cool experience. The sweetest thing was after the show when Devendra took his time greeting all of his fans - posing for pics & talking to everyone. The whole crowd left that show so happy :) I would never miss an opportunity to see him play!

Devendra is so incredibly talented. Now that I've seen him in person, I will definitely listen to even more of his music. I love his hair the way it is now too. Also, after the show he was so authentic and sweet and signed bags, guitars, drew tattoos, and took pictures with everyone who wanted one. He has a great smile, great music, and is totally relatable. The only reason this whole show didn't get an amazing was because the stupid opening band made me want to fall asleep and die. EW! But Devendra was seriously awesome!

Little Joy, a group I hadn't known before this evening was very entertaining. A great opener for Devendra Banhart and apparently close friends... the lead singer accompanied Banhart for much of his act and they blended seamlessly. Devendra, dubbed by some as "the king of the new weird america" movement was accessible and enjoyable for even an unfamiliar audience. For those of us who were long-time fans of his work it was an incredible night. The incredible music aside, Devendra's quirky personality brought another level of energy to the performance-- bouncing and gyrating around the stage, punctuating his storytelling abilities and communicating with the audience. All in all a high energy performance enjoyable to any lovers of quality music. Glad I was there.

Second time I saw Devendra performing. As always very energetic and entertaining! What can I say, he is a big talent!!! He played lots of song from his new album. Also, he interacted with the audience which I liked very much. BUT here is one thing that left me disappointed and I noticed that other people mentioned it also. The concert was way too short. First of all, songs on Mala are very short by themselves, but it does not mean that 75 minutes are enough. I left concert dazed by DB's performance and overall amazing atmosphere and confused by the fact how short concert was. Next time I will go to his concert anyway because I really like what he does, but I expect more songs!

The Davendra concert was a so so show for my taste (not everybody's) because he played too many acoustic songs. Besides that (and this I found strange), his set was short, like 75 minutes in total, including the encore songs. Sorry, but a concert should be, at least 90 minutes. Come on, man.

This is the 2nd time I've seen Devendra perform, and he was even better than 3 years ago. He and his band were "on" - and they were firmly in sync. The energy and camaraderie between them improved their performance. I'm a big DB fan and I enjoyed hearing him perform songs from his multiple albums, not just the latest one. The biggest crowd pleaser was "Sea Horse", during which DB + band rocked it! The opening act, Rodrigo Amarante, was quite good and is also part of Devendra's band. I look forward to purchasing one of his albums. My biggest criticism was the acoustics at the Synagogue. While the venue is beautiful and very comfortable, there was constant reverb at the middle notes, just where most of the lyrics are sung. As a result, it was hard to hear DB sing a number of his songs. It seems that there's an echo problem in the synagogue, particularly caused by the electric guitar.

Great show!! Sixth & I is a beautiful venue but it has poor sight lines. I'm short and folks gathered standing around the front of the stage so I ended up relocating to the rear of the sanctuary to dance. I was bummed that the ticket cost over $30 and Devendra Banhart only played for about an hour and fifteen minutes (including the time taken as a breather before the encore). Another plus about the venue is that alcohol is now permitted in the sanctuary! Last year there was no drinking allowed in the sanctuary which meant guzzling drinks in the basement before going upstairs to see the show.

I have always been a fan of Devendra Banhart's odd nature and sounds that he incorporates in his music. His performance at Sixth & I synagogue this Saturday was even better than he sounds on record. He and his multitalented band both rocked hard and swayed softly, playing all of his hits and many of the songs off of his new album, Mala. The show was so incredible and the crowd so excited that they came on for a double encore at the end of the night. Also worth noting was the act before Devendra, whose name I didn't quite catch but he had ballads that moved me nearly to tears whilst sitting in the pews of the beautiful venue. This was truly a night to remember.

Devendra Banhart offered an amazing show. Intimate and solid. The venue is not the best for a concert, very uncomfortable

This was one of the best shows we've ever seen! I've always loved the diverse sounds of Devendra Banhart but seeing him & the Grogs live really blew us away. This is a truly talented group of musicians, perfectly in sync w/one another.

I might be a little bit biased because I love Devendra. His voice, style, guitar skills, sexiness... mmmm. So this show started with a few songs with his band, then there was a solo set, and a conclusion with the band. He played a few songs off of the new album, but also included a lot of songs from "Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Mountain." Which seemed like the right thing to do for an LA Show. The sound quality at the venue was great! Also the Hieronymus Bosch wallpaper went well with the more far-out songs.
