First half was fun but after intermission it dragged on a bit. I left before the encore because I'd had enough

The music is epic! I saw this in Hollywood and loved every moment. My only critique is the structure; I feel like people wanted the music to fit the images they were seeing. I would have done a chronological look through the TV shows and Films with some footage from each; I think people not familiar with Star Trek would have gotten more out of it that way too... It was a little jarring to hear the themes from Star Trek Voyager and Deep Space Nine played but with no footage from those shows - this was across the board with all the music. As a Trek fan, I felt there was more iconic footage/scenes that could have been used that would have been more powerful and summed up Star Trek better than what was used. I think the voice over by Michael Dorn could have been a little tighter and more profound. That being said, that's my ONLY critique, once I got past that, I just sat back and listened to the music which was like nothing else! Also being in Hollywood many of the composers were their to conduct their own music; Dennis McCarthy's Overture from Star Trek: Generations and Jay Chattaway's 'The Inner Light' Suite. RIP: Jerry Goldsmith

This was a very mediocre performance. The sound was terrible. The lighting was worse. The size and quality of the "symphony orchestra" certainly leave a lot to be desired! I seriously wouldn't bother!

A wonderfull Montage of the 50 years this show has been on TV and the big screen. With odes to creatures, the crews, technology and different creative angles it somehow all blended together seemlessly.

The orchestra was musically on point, and the set was dramatic. The clips on the large screen behind the orchestra were well chosen and known to the interested audience. I sat next to a 10-year-old boy, who was engaged the entire time, even though most of that which aired was well before he was born. My only wish was for an even larger screen.

This was my first orchestral experience for a movie/tv show franchise. I was going in with high hopes and left blow away and amazed! The music was performed without a hitch. The sound in the theater here in Chicago was beautiful. The visuals played along with the music was perfect. Our seats were center and about 6 rows back, couldn't have been any better seating. As a long time Star Trek fan this really lived up to my expectations, even exceeding them. I would and am telling all my friends and family who are fans to please see it. AWESOME!!!! Oh and the set was so perfect as well.

The orchestra was amazing! It was great to watch so many clips from both the many series and movies included in this event. We had a great time pointing out everyone who appeared on The Big Bag Theory! ;) We had excellent seats. We were moved to second row center.

This was our first event like this. We've been to plays, musicals and concerts, just not one coupled with scenes from movies and shows. Although the concept was great, we came to hear the orchestra and being 3 rows from the front we were disappointed. We heard the background music more then the live artists. The props were appreciated, however, they also blocked most of the people and their instruments. This may not have been an issue for seats further back or up a level, but paying prime prices to be near the stage was truly a let down. In addition, my husband was sitting next to a man who felt the need to take over the arm rest and unfortunately he did not smell as if he had bathed in quite a while. This of course is not something that the facility can do much about, but with that along with the above mentioned, it wasn't something that will stick in our minds as FANTASTIC, especially since we traveled over 2 hours to see this.

I'm a big Star Trek fan, so I enjoyed it. My guests were somewhat entertained, but I think they were just being nice. I was distracted by the video the whole time and unable to focus/appreciate the live music. I wish, instead, there were *some* video clips mixed with general space footage and close-ups of the performers. Seating at the Warner Theatre was terrible. Packed like sardines -- skinny seats, little leg room. Would not attend an event there again.

I went to the Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage, 50th Anniversary Symphony Concert... It was AWESOME!! Two hours of different Star Trek music played by a live orchestra on a stage set. Music from the 12 movies, 5 tv series and video games. The video screen had video montages from Star Trek that made it so fun. And then when they had episode-specific (non-movie) pieces, they showed iconic scenes from those episodes. And there were intros for each series, and each segment narrated by Michael Dorn, Mr. Worf himself. One of the most gratifying things was seeing kids there. Knowing that a younger crowd is picking up Star Trek and it's not dying off with older people and their kids. There was a kid that couldn't have been older than seven wearing a full Starfleet uniform. I might get one! Live Long And Prosper! New Trek movie this summer and New TV series next year!

I kind of knew what to expect with Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage because I had previously gone on the website advertising it, but when I say it was more than my husband and I could have imagined, take it as the gospel truth! The imagery was was so riveting you almost forgot there was a full blown live orchestra playing the music instead of it being canned. As a fan of Star Trek, the show made you reminisce all the great TV episodes and movies from beginning to end, but it could easily make a new comer to the franchise a fan quickly. The orchestra...oh the fantastic, amazing, and phenomenal orchestra....what a joy it was to listen to your favorite themes being played live! It took you far into the stratosphere with every note they played. It thrilled the Trekker in my husband and solidified myself into an fan for life!

Excellent venue. I like to get there as early as possible to take it all in. The show had my heart pounding the entire time. If I one improvement, I would of wished for the video display in 1k or 4k The black level was to high, the background was gray. With the backdrop of space and stars, the black level really shown gray. It reminded me of the old NTSC days of a 7.5 setup!!! Great seats, great performance, great night! Let's go again!!!!

My whole family are Trekkies so all 7 of us went to see the Ultimate Voyage. The video presentation was well organized and broken down into years of the original series, good guy, bad guys, and others, more or less. The producers managed to hit almost all the highlights and memorable scenes. It was nostalgic and great fun. The live orchestra added a new dimension to the presentation and they were outstanding! The conductor had a lot of energy and seemed to love what he was conducting. The members of the orchestra were highly professional and very good players. I had to stop for a moment to realize it was live and not recorded. The show was a solid two hours, not counting about a twenty minute intermission. I highly recommend this show to anyone.

Overall it was a great review of the 50 years of Star Trek. The only issue was the audio for several of TV show clips was poor. Perhaps that was unavoidable due to condition of the recordings but perhaps scenes without the audio issue could have been chosen.

The performance is excellent video of the Trek shows and movies for the Trekie enthusiasts and average fan. I loved this classical Voyage. I like how they played snips from the TV Series and Movies along with the music. We were also lucky to have (2) guest conductors - conduct the pieces they wrote for the series... My favorite piece was The Inner Light.....

I've been a fan of the music of Star Trek my whole life. I even bought sheet music in middle school and practiced it with a few friends. I was 13 when Star Trek first aired and through the years, never missed an episode. I have lived my entire adult life, as many of you have, watching, sharing, experiencing the star trek Universe. Gene Roddenberry's vision of our future confirmed my own dreams and desires. Having read a couple reviews, I knew what to more or less expect. What I didn't expect was the pure visceral reaction I had. It affected me deeply. Like the sense of smell, the music brought back memory's I had totally forgotten. Particularly the feelings of wonder I had, after watching these shows the first time. Thank you for this incredible "re-experience" !

It's so hard to rate this show. If you're a Trekkie and have watched all the movies and all the TV shows, this show will bring back sentimental memories that bring you to tears with the mix of the music, lights and video montage they put together... but that's only because you're emotionally invested in this over the span of 50 years. For an outsider, this could be one of the most boring things to ever have to sit through. You have to know the characters, you have to know the music, you have to have an appreciation for all things Trek. If that's you, then this is a real treat to enjoy!

Excellent, brilliant, outstanding! This is a Star Trek lover's dream. I took my wife (not a fan) and two little children (both fans at 6 & 9). We really enjoyed the Pantages (first time there) Theater. The music was fantastic. We got to see THE original Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) as well as the composers of the music that was on show during the event. Dennis McCarthy's directing of the "Generations" theme was powerful. And for me, the highlight of the night was seeing Jay Chattaway take the lead for his "Inner Light Suite" which was back-dropped by a perfect display of family events that have been a part of the series for 50 years. Very moving, very touching. My 9yr old said at the end, "I can't wait to watch this again next year". If only this was an annual event. The only complaint I have is that it ended, when there was still so much more music left to enjoy :)

I love Star Trek, and it was great to celebrate 50 years watching the orchestra play live while watching clips and scenes from Star Trek shows and movies. I especially enjoyed the part where the solo flutist was playing and the screen showed scenes from Star Trek TNG and Captain Jean Luc Picard. The only reason I am giving this 3 stars is because I don't like the way that the show was compartmentalized. Star Trek was so much more than space exploration, and I think they did delve into it. But they spent a lot time on scenes that were epic, but not central to the show. There was so much missing! And the scenes and clips that were chosen were not necessarily the greatest and the best. I think the show celebrated the quirky, funny parts... but there were so many parts that explored humanity, human nature, and all the greatest and worst parts of both. There could have been so much more about all of that. It just missed a certain something. I don't think a Star Trek lover made the show. I think someone who understood something about it did, but not necessarily someone who was passionate about it.

My brother and I grew up watching the original Star Trek and the Next Generation and they, along with the films, formed a big part of our early lives. As middle-aged men, this concert not only brought back great memories but introduced us to some of the moments we'd missed in the series' we didn't follow -- Enterprise and Voyager, for example. I want to stress this is not merely a concert but a sort of multimedia experience in which clips from all the series and films are shown in a thematic way, both to showcase the high points of the various series and the particular styles of music used in them -- there is, for example, a whole sequence of Klingon-themed music, as well as the familiar themes used in Trek 1 and Trek 2. The conducting of the orchestra was so precise that I often forgot the music I was hearing was live and not part of the soundtracks in question. The only real drawback is that 2 1/2 hours is perhaps a little long, but that's debatable. In short, this is an experience every Star Trek fan should have. The tickets aren't cheap but the memories are priceless.

The music was impressive; the TV/film clips well chosen around several themes. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. It was fun to reminisce through the last 50 years and say, "I remember that..." It was an added bonus to have the composers guest as conductors for their own compositions. Nichele Nichols (Uhura) was there in all her glory and I was able to take a photo. If it's coming your way and you're a fan of the franchise, go see it. Worthwhile! I didn't see much of 7 or 9, though : (

The orchestra was wonderful (could have been a bit louder) - hearing the music live was the highlight of the evening. Whom ever put the clips together should have had some wheaties that morning because the first 15 minutes of narration and clips were very boring. After that the clips were supposedly put in categories by year but the pacing was very slow and some stills/clips were shown twice. Evening was a Christmas present for my husband and he enjoyed it, so guess that is what really matters?

I'm a trekkie, so I am bound to like it. I'd go again if I can. But, I must point out as others have, that the video can be distracting. There's no clear theme to it. I wished the orchestra was bigger and more powerful. Now to the title of my reivew. Yeah, don't spend $40 on the program and CD combo. The orchestra, particularly the trumpet section, is pretty bad. Messing up the important high notes here and there. You can tell from the very first track.

We thoroughly enjoyed this event and it far exceeded our expectations. Combining the highly competent orchestra with videos was a perfect mix. We were pleasantly surprised that the event was longer than we expected and was well worth every cent spent! We enjoyed how each television series was highlighted. The only criticism was that there should have been mention of the short-lived (13 episodes) but highly entertaining animated series. Another suggestion would be the enormous effect of the total marketing of the Star Trek concept. All in all, this was an unforgettable evening.

Overall the concert was very good. It jumped around from one series to the next a lot. The only negative is that the conductor had a large white circle that flashed to keep the tempo. During some of the scenes the flashing was very distracting.

This was truly a one of a kind experience. Going in I didn't know what to expect. In fact, my friend said he would go but on the rider that he thinks it will be lame. Well, after the concert he admitted he was wrong and that it was , in fact, awesome. The music was moving, and the movie clips were put together well creating unique stories and virtues from the star trek universe. It had laughs, it was moving, it was truly enjoyable.

Although this is definitely a must see for Star Trek fans, it would be enjoyed by anyone. There was a great mix of music, narration and visual to keep us interested the entire time. In fact, I really didn't want and intermission and was glad when it was over. My sister and I are both fans of Star Trek and we both felt it well exceeded our expectations. Definitely worth the money.

This was basically a recording augmented by about 29 or 30 musicians on stage with random scenes on a large screen. The musicians were fine, but there just weren't enough. Most of the sound was recorded. I was disappointed to have paid $75. per ticket to listen to recorded music. And, the dialog was too distracting. I expected to be blown away by the great Star Trek music, but this was just not the case. I was overall very disappointed. Seats were Too close and the dialog was distracting. We moved back at intermission, and there were plenty of seats further back. The venue was not even half full. A female cellist could not stop laughing about something. Not sure what was going on, but she could not stop giggling like a little girl. This went on for a long time.

The orchestra was miked, so it had none of the ambiance of a real orchestra. It may as well have been recorded. The voice-over narrative was badly written and the delivery was weak, about the same level as a poorly done museum video. It was fun seeing some of the scenes from TOS with a loud soundtrack underneath them, but, again, listening to it through speakers? Why bother hauling around an orchestra? If you like to listen to live orchestral music, expect to be very disappointed. That said, the musicians were amazing. That's some tight, shifting-time-signature work going on there, but it was such a shame to have all that talent processed through a non-dynamic sound system. They might even have had compression on top of the mix. They didn't sound live. So sad. There's so much material from Star Trek, and the presence of a live symphony orchestra can't be beat. They could have done so much with it, and they didn't. Not worth the money or the time.

This was one of the most spectacular shows I have seen! I highly recommend, if you get a chance to see this, by all means go! Whether you are a "Trekie" or not, you will enjoy this show greatly!

The Star Trek Ultimate Voyage concert was far better than I expected. The combination of funny, memorable, and sometimes poignant scenes mixed over with the absolutely stellar performance of the orchestra made this an event I will never forget! If this comes to your area or an area within 2-3 hour of you, and you consider yourself a Star Trek fan, then you NEED to go!

I was expecting an orchestra concert of the different TV and movie theme songs. Instead, it was a live orchestral accompaniment to a video retrospective of the franchise. However, the video was random, rambling, and dull. They didn't seem to pick a theme or pattern, and even when you thought they were focusing on a specific series, they will use music from a different series then sprinkle in random video from other movies. It was kind of fun to see a few favorite moments, but not worth the ticket price at all.

The Star Trek orchestra experience is definitely worth seeing. The live orchestra plays music from the TV shows and movies that is timed to coordinate with a film montage that has both sound and captions. The film editing was superb, featuring significant clips. The musical score was excellent, as expected. I was disappointed that the event we attended had a small orchestra - only 36 players. The score would have been more exciting with a larger orchestra. The orchestra sits on stage with some set pieces that added little to no value. I would have sacrificed those for a more robust ensemble. Apparently, the number of players varies according to the size of the stage. I would have appreciated seeing a slide at the end for each of the deceased actors. I guess they did not do this due to the possibility of someone else dying and having to re-edit. Understandable, but that would have added value. The orchestra played an encore tthat included a few behind the scenes shots - people getting makeup, etc. I would have had the entire encore performance done with behind the scene footage, if possible.

Fantastic show. Loved the way the music tied in with the video presentation. Just wished there was as much attention to the other series as there was to OTS.

The tickets were overpriced, but it was an enjoyed show. If you like Star Trek you would probably really like all the clips they played along with the music. I took my husband since he's a big fan, myself, not so much, but still enjoyed the music.

If you are a StarTrek fan of any age, you will love this show. The orchestra was outstanding, worth the cost alone, but syncronize the music to clips from all the series and movies and you quickly become immersed in the moment. Some reviewers complained about the show not following a set timeline sequence, which is partly true, but didn't matter. There is a set of themes the show follows, and it works. The show lasted about 2 hours, not including a 20 minute intermission, but the time went by quickly. The bottom line.... Go see this show!

Amazing music, an amazing performance, and an amazing venue. I got to listen to Star Trek - The Ultimate Voyage concert at the Chicago Theater (why did it take me 40 years to get to this breathtaking place??) We had tickets in a mezzanine box near the center, and got to relax listening to the heroic, inspiring, and occasionally comical music from Star Trek. Fans of the series/movies and of good music should not miss this event - a great way to celebrate 50 years of "Star Trek".

This combination of Star Trek music, video, and narration was very good. There were a few moments I would nitpick about that only a deeply committed Star Trek fan would notice, but nothing that detracted from enjoying the performance.

What a wonderful show. First off, the set was beautiful. It was perfect and grand without taking away from the wonderful and talented men and women performing. The visuals that played in conjunction to the music were well chosen to emit the emotions that you felt along with the music. At times, you wondered where they were going with the show, but as time went on you saw the bigger picture that tied in nicely at the end. I would recommend this to anyone, especially any Star Trek fans out there.

I attended this show in Indy. I wondered if there were more music fans or Trek fans there. I'm both. It was a dumb question. I think, rather obviously, that Trek fans made up the audience. Either they liked orchestral or score music anyway or just went for some celebratory Trek goodness. Either way, if you're a Trek fan who is at all interested in film/TV music, you simply have to see this show. I was familiar with all the music, having loved it and listened to it my whole life. What was different about this was that someone who really knew Trek and what it was about selected the video content and then pretty flawlessly tracked music to match it. I thought the scene with Mayweather and Archer was weak because I think Mayweather is a weak character but musically, it was fine. They balanced that with the excellent Archer's Speech, which if you haven't seen it, pretty much encapsulates everything that Star Trek is about. Other than the Mayweather thing, the selections were hard to top. It's tough to talk about it without spoilers but mainly the pieces were used to illustrate themes and most were montages set to music linked by narration by a certain Klingon who shall remain nameless. (He was very good.) Every series and movie was included and if your favorite character didn't have any spoken dialogue, he or she was still present. The conductor was a very professional fireball. His zip was infectious. The players were amazing for such a small sized ensemble. That was my biggest complaint. I would have preferred more power, as it were. I also was disappointed that they didn't feature Kirk's women so I could hear Fred Steiner's wonderful music for Marlena Moreau from Mirror, Mirror. A very minor quibble. Program notes and liner notes in the CD by Jeff Bond, who is not only the world's best Trek music expert but the second best McCoy ever. If any of this sounds negative, that's not my intent. I absolutely loved the performance and the material. If you're a fan who is at all interested, it is very much worth the money. I just hope the people you see the show with have more etiquette than the people I saw it with. I was on an aisle and got up at least a dozen times DURING THE SHOW to let them in and out. That's unacceptable to me. Regardless, it was my favorite concert in a very long time. Trek has had brilliant composers for 50 years and this show covered an awful lot of musical ground and an awful lot of the things that have made us watch Trek for half a century. Here's to the next 50!

Orchestra was amazing.....and vignettes of past Star Trek movies and TV series scenes complemented the presentation excellently....it also brought back some great memories with its very enjoyable music. And, so many composers of this beautiful music, together in one place. What a treat !!!. It was a bonus to see the ever classy and beautiful Lt Uhura (Ms Nichols), in a very beautiful black evening dress, which was Star Trek classic and a reminder of what the series creator had in mind, when he shared his view of the future. Thank you to the Nimoy family for being a part of the excitement. Do wish other cast members would have been in attendance.....to commemorate a salute to the 50th anniversary of this very successful and continued Star Trek franchise. My wife, my daughter and I thank you for the beautiful experience...and my son and his family, who attended the following nite.

It was a great mixture of music and effects. The live orchestra carried out the history and the memories of 50 years of Star Trek. It reminded us of the times we saw and experienced it, and refreshed our memories of other times we have forgotten or missed seeing. I laughed below in this review when it said to upload photos and videos with my review. I didn't take any because copyright rules prohibit it, so it is a little hard to do!
