Yeasayer

YEASAYER IN CONCERT:The members of psychedelic rock group Yeasayer have been defying the mainstream with their experimental synths, unique three-part harmonies, and melodic sound since making their debut in 2006 with All Hour Cymbals. The band's passion radiates through the crowd as they play fan favorites like "Ambling Alp" and "O.N.E.

Amazing show. Both opening acts were amazing (I was already a fan of the Smith Westerns)...which I really think is a rarity. Hush Hush stole the show I suppose...his "art" as he calls it was unexpected and totally amazing. Yeasayer was also beyond incredible, full of energy and great sound. It was all around a wonderful concert! Turned out to be a great crowd too, despite the "all ages" allowed in.

Yeasayer made a superb performance last Friday at the Trocadero Theatre. I have only been to this venue once before, but friends who regularly attend events here said they have never seen the place so full. The opening acts were decent, but the main event was spectacular. They played all the songs I expected them to play, and even tried some new songs with the audience. The vocals were flawless and beautiful, almost ghostly. They have done some variations with the songs from All Hour Cymbals without making them completely different. The brand new songs seem to continue on the 80's pop exploration that they started with ODD BLOOD, reminding me of Tears for Fears and Big Country at some moments. This is the second time I have seen Yeasayer live, and I'm looking forward to see what else they bring in the future. This is one of the few bands out there that are worth following.

Great show. Yeasayer was great. Bobo was goofy and strangely endearing. The guy on the synth for Light Asylum was good, didn't go too well with the singer.

Yeasayer is one of my favorite bands, but I wish they had played more of their older material. THey played about 17 songs, and about 14 of them were not released on CD. Its cool to tour with your new album, but this was too much as the album is not even out yet.

My friends and I had no clue that this event was solely a charity event. It seemed that everyone who was there wasn't necessarily there for the music. We walked in and were stunned by the amount of people in 'costume', everybody in prom dresses and tux's. We had been expecting something completely different. It really is unfortunate, yet I am very happy that our money went to a good cause!

If I could spend an eternity at this show, well that would be quite alright. Hush Hush and The Smith Westerns are awesome bands to open for Yeasayer..But they definitely gave them no competition! The hour and a half they performed was better than the weekend I spent at Bonnaroo.

the venue was great despite its bad rep. i didn't find anything wrong with it. anyway overall it was a great concert. the first opening act hush hush was incredibly enjoyable. the smith westerns were a bit boring. yeasayer was amazing and they didn't let technical difficulties stop them from putting on a great show. they replaced their keyboard with anand's guitar so it was a bit different from their normal performances. the stage looked really cool. it was decorated with cacti and other stuff. the lights were pretty and colorful. i will definitely go to another one of their shows the next time they play in new york!

The first time I saw yeasayer was for free at governor's island about a year ago. I had only heard one of their songs but my friends liked them and it was free so i figured why not. that show was hands down the best I had ever seen, i immediately bought their albums (yes, thats right, i actually BOUGHT them instead of downloading. I was that impressed). And let me tell you, they didn't disappoint the second time around either. they sounded phenominal live, unlike their more popular counterpart, passion pit, who are really nothing special to see in concert. I plan on seeing them as often as they come into new york city and look forward to the next one

The opener Hush Hush rocked the mic risqué bringing an R&B vibe with really hard beats. My girlfriend said it was like a mountain man Beck but dirtier and I agree. I loved it. Then Smith Westerns brought out the garage days Bowie style that I just really puts me in my element. Yeasayer remixed most songs to really invoke the audience's primal connection with really interesting beats. The new songs such as Devil in the Details rocked the house hard.

Yeasayer was awesome. Though their equipment was malfunctioning, they are such a creative and talented band that they pulled together a show that was unique and unlike anything I have ever heard from them before (and I have seen them live before). Terminal 5 was pretty nice, though the bar facility got to be a nuisance with the lines and spilled drinks all over the floor.

Yeasayer is great. Even when their equipment breaks and they can no longer play their songs the way they want to, they put on a fantastic, wierd, electronic jungle-time show for their fans. The problem with this show is that it was at Terminal 5, my least favorite NY venue by far. Its too inconvenient, too big with poor visibility to the stage, and somehow, the crowd is invariably dominated by douchebags I would never see at Bowery Ballroom or Music Hall of Williamsburg.

The Trocadero was the ideal venue for the enthusiastic artists and audience. Intimate and insulated with a chill-yet-liberated atmostphere. Yeasayer played brand new songs, favored oldies and their most-loved hits. Bodies were rocking beginning with Hush Hush's hipster-friendly, slightly-explicit electrojams. The Smith Westerns kept expectations high, playing what seemed to be their most popular songs. Yeasayer's presence as a band was unique because of the diversity of the musicians. Seeing the five men in the flesh only added to the excitement called forth at the opening sound of each song. Successful dance party, happy soul. Two thumbs and two big toes way, way up.

Well, I liekd the opener bands but yeasayer didn't come on until like 10:45, I had to leave at 11:30 to catch the train home. MY fault for poor planning, still enjoyed the extremely terse set I saw. Hush Hush is retarted but kind of sweet, it took me a while to appreciate smith westerns, their last song was amazing though.

Yeasayer is by far my favorite band to see live. Every time they leave me speechless with how great the show is. Of course their songs are wonderful, thats a given, but they always have a rockin light show to go along with it and their energy is amazing. They care that the crowd is having a great time and it shows. The small venue is even better, it's way more personal than a huge space where you can barely see their bodies let alone their faces. This was a spectacular show, anyone who gets the chance to see Yeasayer live should definitely jump at the opportunity!

Let me start by saying how excellent the opening band was...HUSH HUSH was excellent, and hilarious! Now, Yeasayer completely knocked it out of the ball park. Awesome set with incredible lights (LED tubes, LED boards, and two massive LED walls). The two LED walls (lack for a better term), were incredible. The animations went with the music, and the entire band were perfect...very polished!

Good show in a nice venue, despite astronomically high drink prices! Opening act, Hush Hush, was fun and entertaining. Although there was a small audience at the time a good percentage of the viewers were up and moving. The second act, Smith and Westerns, was less entertaining and seemed out of place for the overall theme of the night. This band might have gone over better with a different crowd, but for the audience drawn by Yeasayer, Smith and Westerns was less than appropriate. It did offer a good opportunity to hit the bathrooms and refill my drink without the anxiety that I might be missing something good. The headliner, Yeasayer, was all around a good show and definitely got the crowd moving. Good acoustics, nice lighting and the random cacti distributed across the stage added an interesting element to the decor. Yeasayer played their most popular songs in addition to a few new ones I had not heard yet. They ended it with a bang and came out to play two more songs. While the encore performance was not as up beat as the core show, it was still a good time. I would recommend taking the opportunity to see Yeasayer if they are in your town!

Not only is the Royale the best indoor music venue in Boston, but Yeasayer filled the space perfectly. Even at an indoor venue Yeasayer's music creates a wide open space with their epically baroque style vocals and wide reaching synthesizers. Steady drum beats and delicately intricate guitar riffs bring the almost overwhelming experimentation back down to Earth. Like Arcade Fire, Yeasayer is a band meant for open spaces. With far reaching vocals that impressively possess roots in romantic opera while still reaching forward into the synth based experimental tech pop-rock this band is quietly creating something the scene has never seen before. The set list was evenly packed with old and new songs, which satisfied the old diehards and the newbies just on the bandwagon. Fans responded positively to the new songs "Henrietta" and "Devil and the Deed", and gushed over old favorites, "Sunrise" and "Wait for the Summer". Yeasayers coupling of heady dance beats like "Ambling Alp" and mind boggling futurism like "2080" kept fans of all walks interested. The only thing missing was "Red Cave" a beautifully pastoral image of love and family, and an old fan favorite. All in all Yeasayer's performance at the Royale in Boston was, to say the least, impressive.

The concert was absolutely fantastic - Yeasayer has an amazing sound live, and they really knew how to engage the audience and get everybody excited. Hush Hush, the first opener, was very comical. Unfortunately, I thought that the Smith Westerns were boring, and a very poor choice of an opening band for such an otherwise great concert.

They started a little late which I guess is expected. But once yeasayer came out they were spectacular! Even the hitch they had with one of their guitars didn't stop them. Intense show and having it in the relatively small venue of the majestic theatre made it feel like more of an exclusive show.

Living in Portland, OR, I see a lot of shows (once a week at least) and while most are incredible, none touched on the fury that these guys laid down. I danced so hard I couldn't speak the next day. Easily contender for top 5 shows of my LIFETIME. I hoped they enjoyed the crowd (with the exception that one person that grabbed at Chris Keating's crotch) as much as the were enjoyed, and come back soon (but not to the Crystal Ballroom - the other Ballroom venue in town, yuck!)

Only know a couple of their songs (from iTunes) but my son had seen them three times and said it was a good light show. The first three or four tunes were interesting, well-performed but didn't grab me. Then they started to warm up, razzed the crowd a bit and brought some variety into the set. Then played one of the tunes I knew, so I could sing along. Not sure if the light show was the same as what my kid had seen, but it was so-so, neither adding to nor detracting from the concert. Worth a second look (especially if its at the Fillmore, almost always a good vnue). Poster was lame and vendor couldn't ID CD with specific songs, but that didn't detract.

This was the second time I saw Yeasayer, and they really put on a great show. Their music is so positive and they are so much fun to watch. I can't help but dance uncontrollably when I see them, and it's easy to lose yourself in their music. Very fun, upbeat, nice harmonies, and all around great music. They put on an awesome light show too, that was super cool and added a great element to an already fantastic performance. I will see them every time they play in my area. I suspect sitting upstairs at the fox is usually a bad idea. The mix is completely drowned out by heavy bass. Went downstairs and was wishing that I had made the decision a little sooner. The new album does not hit the heights of their previous two. The music, the staging and the light show were all entertaining but not to same degree as just listening to their music. It all ends up being just a little distracting. I suspect that this is a band I will continue to enjoy their albums but will skip their shows.

I went into the show not knowing what to expect. I absolutely LOVE Yeasayer, but had heard they weren't the best live. Needless to say I was nervous about the experience I was about to have at the Ogden. However, they started with a bang and ended with one as well. I absolutely loved the show and thought they did an amazing live performance. My only complaint is that the show was so short. Their set was only about an hour, which definitely left me wanting to hear more. Maybe that's their marketing ploy though. I hadn't heard too much Yeasayer before going to the show. I was mostly there to see the Smith Westerns. Yeasayer was way more fun that I had expected! Dancier than their recorded albums, really really fun! A 16+ show is always kind of disappointing to me, I don't exactly enjoy being surrounded by a bunch of kids with The Black X of Shame on their hands, especially when chatty little girls don't shut up during the band that we ALL paid to see. But....we were all 16 once -- was I really THAT enthusiastic about everything??

I was prepared to leave the show early as I was so tired from a long week and a long trip back home post-show. Yeasayer, with their tremendous energy, prevented any early leaving and to my great pleasure! Their show was a spectacular light show and sound extravaganza which filled my soul to the deepest crevices. They played every song that I wanted to hear and their new songs, new to me, were just as body-moving as recognizable tunes. Their use of a light show enhanced their songs to the extent that I was able to lose myself into the music. The energy gained from their show enabled me to make my two hour drive home possible. Thank you Yeasayer for rockin out the Ogden!

Yeasayer's live set is amazing. All the crazy beats and elements combine for a memorable experience and kept me dancing the entire time. Loved that they added to the studio versions and made each song unique. Great band to see live!

Yeasayer was completely lackluster, they just could not get an eager crowd moving. Their levels never reached a good pitch, especially the vocals. But overall there was very little energy in their performance, which was a bummer.

Let's just say I had high hopes going into this show and was completely let down. At no point during the concert did I feel like they were "putting on a show" in the conventional sense. From the time they came out until the time they ended their set it sounded forced like they were just going through the motions and there was an obvious lack of energy, coming from both the stage and the crowd. I for one have loved what these guys have done in the studio, but was very unimpressed with how that material translated into the live setting. Let's hope it was just an off night for them and the next time they come around (and that's only "if" I choose to partake) my experience winds up being much different.

Yeasayer was amazing. They played a mix from their first album, then Odd Blood as well as some new songs, one of which they performed on Conan the night before. Simply amazing.. I thought the set was short, probably because I could listen to them all night.

If you are a fan of Yeasayer, you have to see them live. As an avid concert goer, believe me when I say, it was the best concert I have seen in years.

Loved the music.. the light show was great but the bands on stage presence needs work. i have never seen a singer sing with his back to the stage that much.

I finally got the chance to see Yesayer live and they didn't disappoint! They are very talented and know how to put on a show. If they come back to Los Angeles I will definitely go see them again. They interacted with the crowd, and seem to enjoy what they do which added to their performance.

It was a chill vibe, a lot young attractive people jamming out to some very hipster/hippie music. Not the best thing ever, but definitely worth the 35 dollars that I spent.

Great venue! Great openers - hush hush was such a suprise super funny, smith westerns were good Yeasayer was amazing, really good lighting, sound was excellent, cool effects/ stage set up had such a fun time only bad thing was the idiots with the shark heads and lobster claws come on people! they were really obnoxious and were getting too pushy and in the way etc......

Being at the Musicbox, the sound wasn't so great to begin with. Opening acts, especially Hush Hush didn't really get anyone going. The show was still ok because Yeasayer sounded good live, but there was no energy on the stage or among the audience.

Band was great live... only drawback was though tickets were for an 8pm show... they didn't come on until 11pm... on a Monday night! People work yo! Had to leave early but from what we saw great show! :P

Yeasayer was sick, very polished and had a great sound. Sometimes got a little psychedelic for my taste, and wish I was on drugs.. but they put on a great show. Smith Westerns are incredible. They can absolutely wail on the guitar. They will be headlining soon enough. Love that band. Hush Hush was if anything pretty funny. Tough to get up there alone and try and do your thing.

Everything about the show was memorable in the best way possible. I was completely satisfied and I can't wait until they're back in town so I can see them again.

I'm not sure what was up that Saturday night, but Yeasayer did not deliver. I saw them at the same place last year, and it was fantastic. This time around they couldn't even get the crowd moving. I would still recommend going to see them if you haven't, simply because if they are hitting their stride they're fantastic. I guess they're just inconsistent.
