Brand New

Forming in 2000 on Long Island, New York, Brand New is an alternative-punk band consisting of Jesse Lacey on vocals and guitars, Vincent Accardi on guitars and vocals, Garrett Tierney on bass, and Brian Lane on drums. They signed to Triple Crown Records and released their debut album Your Favorite Weapon in 2001, full of emotional angst and ex-girlfriend tales, before touring with the emo Dashboard Confessional, post-hardcore acts Finch and Glassjaw, alt-rock Midtown, and pop-punk bands New Found Glory and Taking Back Sunday. Their sophomore album Deja Entendu came out in 2003, featuring the singles “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows” and “Sic Transit Gloria...

I ve been lucky enough to see Brand New seven times in the last seventeen years, and this was hands down the absolute best show I ve seen so far (and if they throw in the towel next year, possibly ever). The lights, the production, the set design. I just can t believe this is the same band I saw last year playing songs over eight years old. Great venue with excellent sound, and from my vantage point (right in front of the soundboard), the crowd was polite and excited to be there.

I've seen Brand New six times in the past four years, and their show at The Fox Theatre in Detroit, MI was arguably their best performance yet. They started the set with 'Lit Me Up,' the intro. to their latest album, Science Fiction. Aside from the general excitement about seeing Brand New perform, the crowd was immediately enthralled by the visual effects on the large screen separating us from the band. It only increased when the bass dropped during the second verse - "When I grow up, I want to be a heretic." The low booming and buzzing that drowned out the cheers and screams of the crowd had everyone gasping for air. The songs that followed were complimented by stunning prisms and wormhole effects that encompassed the band. When the screen lifted, scenes of space, mountains, and war played above and on the screen behind the band. My favorite visual occurred during 'Same Logic / Teeth,' when close-ups of the band faded in and out on the screen above with this unique spider-web effect. The light show wasn't the only part that made this performance great. While playing a variety of songs, about half of which were off the new album, Jesse performed in typical fashion - improvising melodies and lyrics while screaming at the top of his lungs. However, Vinnie stole the show with his lead guitar solos and jumping around the stage like a mad man without missing a note (I imagine he missed some notes, but the dude clearly enjoyed every second of his performance, so you have to love him). After the band closed with 'Sowing Season,' Jesse came back out alone to play 'Soco Amaretto Lime' as an encore, and that 5 minutes felt as intimate as the time I saw them play Deja Entendu in its entirety (which was also the first time I saw them (2013)). Hearing the crowd sing / scream "You're just jealous 'cause we're young and in love!" was the best way to end the evening. These guys probably won't tour much longer, based on some of the things they've said in appearances over the past three or four years, so take any chance you get to see them! They don't play much of their old stuff, but they're not angsty teens anymore, so don't hold that against them if you're a fan of YFW and DE.

The best thing about the show is how they opened: I had expected Sowing Season or something newer but instead they treated us to Okay I believe you, but my Tommy Gun Don't followed by Sic Transit Gloria and The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows. It wasn't really downhill from there. They played a couple songs from Your Favorite weapon (most notably Mixtape, The Shower Scene, and Jude Law and The Semester Abroad), a few from Devil and God and a couple new and obscure songs. The closing was Play Crack the Sky which was nice even though I never particularly liked the song. They were tight, adept with instruments and the vocals were well equalized and audible. The sound guys did a good job and kept everything well balanced. The venue was good. It was small with a great sound system and they did a decent job of processing guests and keeping everything rolling on time. My only complaint is the behavior of some of the other fans. I was pushed rudely countless times by an odd assortment of bros and people who don't look like they shower very frequently.

Waited in line for 2 hours to get a good spot up front. Once inside, waited 1 hour for opening band "Robbers" to start. Blaring went on for 30 minutes. Music definitely needs improvement but they were entertaining and enthusiastic. Waited 30 minutes for Brand New to start at 10:00p. Meanwhile had to listen to two dimwitted valley girls talk about how they couldn't see the stage because everyone was taller than them. Brand New starts at 10:00p. Not a bad show. Jesse didn't seem that into it. I was standing next to his ex-girlfriend, possibly his current girlfriend seeing as how she was at the show. Middle East Downstairs is pretty much a dump but it is also very cheap. If you like cheap dirty things then go for it. My nickname is still sweaty because the mosh pit was ridiculous at the show. By ridiculous I mean people either drunk or just there to get into a fight. Not the best BN show I've been to.

I went in there expecting a good show. I love Brand New. I've been a fan since 2001, but had never seen them live until 07-12-2009. I can honestly say that I have never been to a show where the band sounded so damn good! I was blown away by their performance. I loved every second of it. It was in such a personal setting that you felt like they were singing to you, and everyone else didn't matter. It was a beautiful show. They even decided to play a few new songs which made everyone there very excited! Hands Down: Best Show Ever.

I was impressed that Brand New played songs off of your favourite weapon and even an obscure ep. Lately they have been playing songs off of deja or devil. It was an enjoyable show, the fans were into from the first song all the way to the last.

Brand new, as always, was awesome. They played a superb show and everyone left with a smile. The middle east had a metal fence thing in the front that was too high and awkward. Also the venue let two girls cut the line because their dad was a cop. Robbers was also nothing short of amazing. I would definitely see them again! Great show!

As a long time fan and self-pronclaimed Brand New connossieur, it was nice to see them shy away from playing more slow and depressing songs and start the show off with a bang. I have been to many Brand New concerts and they have all been wonderful, but this one seems to be the first in a long time that they felt "happy" on stage. Maybe it was the hometown ambiance, but they were relaxed and joking on stage. The focused on a lot of crowd favorites like "I believe you but my tommy gun don't", "The quiet things that no one ever knows", "seventy times 7" and even threw in songs I had never heard them play before including "mix tape" and "Flying at tree level." They busted out a few new songs to the crows delight then moved on to "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" where we were pleased with "Degausser" "You Won't Know" and "The Archers Bows are Broken". All in all in was a spectacular event for any fan of Brand New and the venue was not too crowded, making the experience ever more enjoyable. Now it's time to look forward to their upcoming album and the tour dates that come along with it.

I'm going to preface this by saying that Jesse has developed a singing style that is not always on-key. But there's an inspiring amount of energy in the band/vocals, and the new songs sound great. The entire crowd pushed forward when they opened with "Okay I believe you..." and rarely let up the rowdiness. That's a good thing.

The Magic Stick is an amazing venue to see a show. They didn't cram a million people in there, so it wasn't a pain in the ass to get a drink, play some pool, go bowling, sit on the patio, etc. All of which, by the way, are awesome things to have at a concert venue. The show itself was very sweet. I feel like the opening band (The Robbers) would have been much better had anyone in the crowd knew any of their songs. Brand New, however, did a great job. They played almost every song I wanted to hear, started with my favorite song (... tommy gun don't.), and even played a couple new songs. My only criticism is that there was no encore. I felt like we were a REALLY good crowd and deserved a little more. I'm disappointed, especially considering their claim that they didn't have a set list. If that's the case, then just pull out another song or five and rock some more. I wouldn't say this at every concert, but the whole crowd was great, and we should have gotten more. Overall it was a great show though. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone else.... first time listeners to die-hard fans.

I went into the event with a mediocre attitude about the venue, but as soon as the band started the venue could have been the back alley of a dirty TGI Fridays. The band's chemistry was phenomenal. If you are a fan of music at all, you must see this band before you die. I have been to upwards of 100 concerts on my life, but i can honestly, say that Brand New put on the best live show i have ever seen.

There are phases for band fame. Theres the garage phase, local show phase, larger local shows, out of state shows, agent discovery, country wide tours, then worldwide. Brand New has hit worldwide, with various shows across the pond this summer. But here they are, an acclaimed band like Brand New taking time to hit up venues that hold around 250-500 people. Shows like these are rare, especially when the band has hit their kind of fame. And so, when somebody says that this is a chance of a lifetime, its a chance of a lifetime. Take it. Im glad I did, because they tore it up. Magic Stick is a fairly intimate venue (so much so that if I tossed a rock at them, they wouldve been able to pick me out of the crowd), so when they hit the stage with songs like "You Won't Know" and "The Archers Bows Have Broken," you feel it. All over the place, you arent safe from the wrath of the music because it will grab you, hold you, and own you. You end up either standing dumbstruck with your jaw on the floor or swaying with the current of the crowd singing, headbobbing or arm pumping like theres no tomorrow. I was somewhere in the middle of that. The guys are really down to earth and passionate when they play. The energy they have was literally making a sea of the people up front. A note about the very front, the stage only comes up to about your knee, so those who were up front had major balls to stand the push of 500 people on your shin/knee. Funny thing is that Jesse noted midshow that it was mostly girls in the front. I can go on for pages but bottom line: Amazing show. Would give an arm and a leg to see it again. You cant beat a band like Brand New in a venue like the Magic Stick.

What an amazing venue for Brand New to play at. It was such an intimate setting. I saw them at The Fillmore two years ago and I could barely see. This time, I was five feet away from Jesse. Even though I couldn't breathe, lost my flip flops, and was shoved around quite a bit; it was well worth it! They did end their show pretty abruptly which left concert-goers a littled bummed. No encore and a half-assed "thank you" was a little rude I thought. Good show overall though.

Unlike former accoustic shows, there was little introduction into each song. I expected to hear more songs from their new album, Daisy, but as a [pleasent] surprise the guys continued to play familiar favorites. As Jesse put it, "you gotta get your bang for your buck". So on they played. The crowd surfed to songs such as Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades and mellowed in unison to echo Jesse in Play Crack the Sky.

I missed the first band, but the second band was really good. But when Brand New came on stage it was just a completely different level of AMAZING! Those guys always know how to have a good time and put on an awesome show. I also got to see the private acoustic performance at Vintage Vinyl, which was also AMAZING. They repeated a couple songs at the Pageant that they played at V.V., but the songs they repeated were two of my favorite songs and didnt mind hearing them twice. The cage/fence coming down at the beginning was awkward until the light show. That was a great effect although glad the cage/fence didn t stay down the entire show. Jesse s voice seemed a little off but it was still an excellent show. The songs had a fresh vibe live. Soco was like an acoustic encore, only song from YFW. 3 from Deja. Only 2, maybe 3 from Daisy. Then about half of the new album and maybe 1/3 of The Devil and God.

I've always been a fan of brand new and when I heard that this might be their last album and that they are calling it quits I knew I had to see them live at least once. I picked up the tickets and was surprised to see that nada surf was actually going to open for them, another band that I love a lot. The venue was small ish but it was perfect for the setting that they wanted to create. The music was wonderful, they played everything perfectly. Both bands brought it and I appreciate the passion that they both displayed to us. Especially nada, considering 60% of the crowd was in the lobby buying alcohol and Merch, but they played like the building was packed. I totally bought a nada surf hoodie as a sign of appreciation. Every song was played from the heart from both bands none of it was dialed in

The Brand New show I attended in Philly back in July was amazing, but there is something cathartic and personal about being in the pit at one of their shows and feeling the camaraderie of the fans. I've been told that seeing them live as a diehard fan is a must for this very reason, and I feel honored to have shared the final evening of a tour with a band who I've loved since I was a teenager. Jesse Lacey has as much raw emotion live as he does recorded and finally not only being able to listen to, but see him perform live was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life. Prior to the show I was unfamiliar with both Modern Baseball and The Front Bottoms, I preferred Modern Baseball a bit more, but both acts did a great job despite my personal preference. The Front Bottoms stage set up with couches, a TV, lamps etc for the other bands to hang out on while they were playing was creative and fun to watch. Overall an amazing night of good music.

The venue was more important than my birth and modern baseball was REALLY cool. the front bottoms had a couch on stage and i thought that was neat Brian Sella made my loins tremble, however he made it seem like he was going to play his song twelve feet deep and even hinted about it only to bamboozle us.. Brand new played too goddamn long though. it took them a muthafuk hour to set up their mediocre lightship of a stage and i didn't enjoy his preachy talk at the end of the concert. overall i hope he gets gud. i can say without a doubt this concert gets a 5/7 with a rating of fantastic, too many hipsters though. on a side note brand new played monster mash and gave me a semi.

Being the 6th time seeing them, I feel that Brand New live performances will never get old. Their concerts have always evolved through the last 10 years, which makes it unique each time. The opening acts are two regular groups the preform with BN, so I've grown to enjoy listening their music as well...especially "Cotton Crush" by Kevin Devine Brand New opened with a different twist as Jessie started with Soco Amaretto Lime, which then they rolled into a Archers. It was a great start that made yet another great concert. Overall I enjoyed the set list BN played, but my only complaint is the venue. The Lakefront Arena is good for full capacity shows; but the House of Blues or Civic are much better venues for a BN Concert. Nevertheless, if Brand New comes to town; then I will always be in the crowd, because I gonna stay 18 forever!

Great weather for an outdoor concert! I wasn't there early enough to see Cloakwork perform but I did see some of Manchester Orchestra's set, it was really good! The venue was a bit shady but it was still very enjoyable. Brand New did a great job and was a blast to watch.

I grew up catholic but lost my faith long ago... I forgot what that special feeling was like when you feel something more powerful than you take control. I havent experienced anything like that night in a long time, and have yet to feel it again. There is a quote that when the music hits you, you feel no pain. Well for me, with brand new, not only did I feel no pain, I felt invigorated with life again. I don't know how to explain what going to this show meant to me other than it was a night I will never forget, and if you ever get a chance to go to one of their shows in a small to medium venue then please do, you will not regret it

This was my fifth Brand New concert in span reaching back to 2005. The last time I saw them in concert was 7 years ago, and they still put on an amazing concert. I hope I can see them a sixth time...so please come back to New Orleans!!

I've been listening to Brand New for five or six years, and this was the first time I had been able to see them. They played three sets, including Your Favorite Weapon in its entirety. I saw there in awe for over three hours. The entire crowd sang "you're just jealous 'cause we're young and in love" into the new year together. It was incredible. My life will never be the same again.

This was hands down the best show ever. Brand New was intense and played all of Deja Entendu. It was probably the best brand new show i've ever been too and i've been to 7.

Brand New played an incredible show. They played a few songs from their old albums, including Seventy Times 7, which made the crowd go wild. They played a pretty long set which had songs from each of their four albums. They closed with Play Crack The Sky, which was a great choice. They surely did not disappoint, and their performance was full of energy and perfection.

Needless to say, all three bands executed an absolutely fantastic performance! I was taken away by how each band's live performance matched the quality and authenticity of the music on their albums. The equipment setup by The Norva helped to produce crystal-clear audio with chest thumping bass and 360 degrees of speakers shooting the clearest and richest audio in every direction of the building. Show-floor lights dazzled and struck the entire stage with brightness that gleamed and faded with the deep rumbling bass and musical notes. As an attendee of this concert, I felt fully engaged with the songs and music. Good job and a big thanks to Crime in Stereo, Thrice and Brand New! I love you guys!

Brand New is in my top 2 for all time favorite bands. I thought the set list was heavy on Devil and God songs and a little light on Daisy. However, still amazing and their music is just awesome. I always want Jesse to be a little more engaging, but that's probably never going to happen. One thing quickly - the venue said doors at 7 and when I got there between 7:30-7:45 I had missed Crime in Stereo. Who actually starts concerts on time?

Crime in Stereo probably had the best stage presence out of all the bands. Thrice sounded amazing. Brand New sounded great of course. However, the bands basically got on stage, played their songs, and left. There was minimal crowd interaction whatsoever. Thrice didn't even play Stare at the Sun, and Brand New didn't play anything from Your Favorite Weapon. I'm not a huge fan of Daisy at all, and wish they played more of my favorite songs from when I was in high school. Jesse looked like a hobo and didn't act like he even wanted to be there until nearly halfway through the setlist when he finally acknowledged the crowd and thanked us for coming out. Overall, I felt it was a little blah, but they sounded great.

I have been a fan of Brand New since "Your Favorite Weapon" but was never able to see them in Concert until now. With this being my first time seeing them live, my expectations were very high, and surprisingly enough, they were met. We arrived as the first opening band was finishing up, so I cannot really say anything good or bad about them. However, I did not care for Thrice. Every song they played sounded the same and I could barely distinguish when a song ended and when a new one began. When Brand New came on, everyone went crazy! It was great! It was a small venue, so it felt personal. They played songs from all of their albums, mostly from "Devil and God" and "Daisy." No, they are not talkative, which didn't surprise me, but the people who are getting pissed about it in their reviews need to realize that not all bands joke around and engage with the crowd. Also, I don't think they played the same set at every venue, which is cool that they mixed it up a bit. The crowd was awesome too, which usually makes or breaks a show. Many of them were drunk, but not nasty drunks...fun drunks! They were all singing along and having fun! You could tell, they were long time fans. And I don't know what happened, but Jesse and Garrett kept laughing at something that happened on the side of the crowd that we were on. It must have been funny though because they were smiling and laughing for one or two songs :)

This was my first Brand New show, and I've got to admit it was a really good experience although i was a little let down by Manchester Orchestra's set list. Brand New has lots of musical talent and has shown that they have matured as a band.

Brand New has always been a band ahead of the curve and willing to push themselves artistically. I have followed them since I was around 15 or 16 (in the days of Your Favorite Weapon) and every release has been personal and met me where I am in my life. With the release of Daisy, I was completely blown away by the apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic allusions and imagery. I had a chance to see them do the free acoustic set at Good Records and commend them for their showmanship, sincerity, and willing to make themselves be the change that they wish to see in this world. We are in very trying times and they are one of the few bands that are culturally and globally aware of what is really happening. Hopefully people choose to look into their lyrics and music in order to make changes within themelves. I know that bands like Brand New, Animal Collective, Wu-Tang Clan, etc. are composed of artists wanting to push society forth and transcend the darkness that plagues our society. I only was able to make it to half of the set at the Palladium as I was misinformed when the show was to actually start. I made it in right when they were playing "Vices" and I couldn't have been more excited. What ensued was a musical onslaught of rhythm, melodies, riffs and jesse lacey serving as the lighthouse for the lost and broken. Thank you Brand New for making my world a better place. I hope others follow your lead.

Their performance was amazing, I'm so glad I went and I had completly forgot about the fact that I was there alone. Their exit was pretty freaking cool as well, :)

It was an epic experience. Both Thrice and Brand New did fabulously. I'd recommend maybe a bigger place to play. I've never in my life been so compressed in one area for such a long amount of time. I sweat through my clothes completely and went home drenched in the freezing cold. I wouldn't change it for the world

That concert was pretty much the greatest night of my life. I drove ten hours to get there and ended up getting strep some how from the trip, but i swear, it was so worth it. Brand New in incredible!! I could go on for hours about how much i freaking loved that show. Man... It was amazing!! I was in the mosh pit the whole time and I was so tired and smelled like weed and alcohol but it was so worth it. oh and earlier in the day was an acoustic mini set from Brand New and that was way awesome too.

I have been to many, many concerts and this was by far the best one yet. It was my first time seeing Brand New and Manchester Orchestra and they ROCKED! To top off the night we stuck around the Mandalay Bay Casino and met Andy Hull (Manchester Orchestra) and Brian Lane, and Vincent Accardi (Brand New). They were SO nice but wouldn't take any pictures :-( but it was still AWESOME!!!

Modest Mouse was not good and did not play for long. At the end of the set it sounded like they said they would be back in 10 and never came back. Then it was an hour and twenty minutes or so before Brand New started. By that point I was not interested.

I'll keep it short and simple. I paid the higher face value cost plus the fees and taxes to see Modest Mouse who was supposed to headline the event. I didn't know who Brand New was and i was traveling from a neighboring state earlier that day so I figured there was time to get to the show. NOPE! For some reason Modest Mouse switched with Brand New so Brand New headlined the event and i saw 20 minutes of Modest Mouse. Additionally, my friends who went to the show said Modest Mouse didn't play any of the songs they wanted to hear. So someone else can pay the elevated price for Modest Mouse next time they come in, I'm done giving them my money when they pull these stunts.

The venue was awesome. Perfect for a summer night show. Hang out on the lawn, drink some beers. I wish Modest Mouse played for longer, they were only on for an hour. However, it did start to rain and we saw lighting in the background, so maybe they got off early to try and finish the show before the rain. Can't wait to go back.

From start to finish this concert was incredible. The food carts we're amazing, the acoustics in the venue were phenomenal and the bands were absolutely spectacular. Awesome show! Modest Mouse was a great start to a great show, though they were a little quiet/short. Brand New is one of my all time favorites and they certainly did not disappoint! My one complaint would be the time between sets, there was a 45 minute wait between bands

I've been a modest mouse fan for quite some time but this was my first live expirience with them. Gotta say, I was disappointed in them. Didn't play a lot of the songs I thought I would hear, sound was muffled, and they didn't even play an encore.. yeah, kinda shocking. Overall they didnt seem into it which is really upsetting as a fan. Unfortunately it pains me to say this but Ill have to pass on ever seeing them again live. Brand new however brought down the house, and the venue was awesome!

Went to hear modest mouse and they delivered, great show, mann is also a great venue. Brand New pretty good too, music styles not quite the same, but liked their sound. Just had lawn seats but able to find a spot to see stage. Nothing like sitting out under sky, listening to good music, philly in background and with my wife just having a good time.
