This concert was amazing!! I always love to see Great Big Sea but this venue is far and above any venue I've been in for any concert. It's called The Bears Den. 440 seats and not a bad one in the place. We were at the side and in the third row. I could almost reach out and touch them (would have loved to have done that!). As always the boys put on a great show. I've never seen them where I was ready for the show to be over. I could listen to them all night.

As usual, Great Big Sea gave another fantastic, get on your feet, clap your hands, sing until you have no voice left, performance. I've seen them many times before and have never been dissapointed. So fortunate to have been a part of, what most likely was, their last ever Ottawa show!

Great Big Sea, as always, gave their audience their money's worth ... and then some!! They even managed to make a slight glitch with a speaker in the first half of the concert something fun, funny and entertaining! An outdoor concert, it was hot, it was humid and sticky ... but it didn't matter -- it was great and it was fun!! A good mix of old familiar GBS tunes and newer ones made for a great performance! They are celebrating their 20th year ... we're hoping for at least 20 more! Thank you, Great Big Sea!!

The concert was great even though the video display had problems during the GBS concert and was not always viewable. The group did several well received encores and performed a number of songs from their popular itinerary. It was great to be a part of it and fantastic to see the performers. The lead-in group (Spirit of the West) was also good especially with their energy and later songs when they got the crowd on their feet. I have long been a fan of Great Big Sea and it was fantastic to see them live.

The band was amazing! Spirit of the West was a great addition. My only complaint was that Sean McCann's mike seemed to be set at too low a level :( It was hard to hear him at times.

Wife and I have been to many concerts and we agree it was by far the best concert either of us had been to. This was a first for both our son and daughter and we all had an amazing time dancing and singing together. Great Big Sea has become our family favorite band and they are incredible to watch on stage with their energetic personalities and musical talents. The amphitheatre was comfortable and well run. We loved it.

Great show last night by both bands - Spirit of the West opening and then Great Big Sea as the main event. Lively night - the crowd got up on their feet early and many stayed there the rest of the night once GBS got started. Lots of hits, old hits, traditional songs, good stories, amazing singing and ability on multiple instruments - a great night - but see review of opening act below ...

ONE OF THE FINEST GREAT BIG SEA CONCERTS OF THE 10 THAT I HAVE ATTENDED. ALAN SAID HE WAS WAITING FOR THIS EVENING AND IT CERTAINLY SHOWED THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. SPIRIT OF THE WEST WAS A GREAT PROMOTIONAL MATCH AND WERE MUCH MORE THAN AN OPENING ACT. NO TIME TO SIT DOWN FROM START TO FINISH. WELL DONE ME BOYZ!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Big Sea was at its finest at the Melody Tent. A great show of mostly well-known songs with great vocals and great interraction with the audience. Sing, clap, maximize vertical movement and have a great time!

Of course GBS rocked the tent, but it was a small enough venue to interact with the band but have enough fans so the atmosphere was electric. Doyle's finally returned to where he belongs & after all the guys shook off a few cobwebs, the band & audience felt like long-lost family members had returned. Absolutely a huge kitchen party!

Maybe it's because I'm such a big fan, but to me the set list seemed really short. They didn't get on the stage until about 8:45 after the opening act and were done by 10:30. I know it was just their second show back after 6 months off, but they seemed to just be going through the motions at times. It was also really hard to hear the vocals over the instruments. I dunno, I guess I just expected a show more along the lines of the one on Great Big DVD.

The entire event was more than wonderful. I really enjoyed the opening performance. He was delightfull. The Great Big Sea was a blast from my roots. There is nothing like Irish Music to stir the soul. The interaction and energy the men personified brought everyone to there feet from the second they came into perform to the end of the performance. Everyone was singing and dancing and laughing the entire evening. Most enjoyable. Please bring them back.

Great Big Sea put on a non-stop performance with a ton of great songs, lots of energy and a natural rapport/banter with the crowd. It was a little steamy in the tent and the mosquitoes were hungry early on, but the performance was fun. The band only played to half of the tent which seemed to make some of the sound fade out on the sides, but otherwise it was a great night!

I will start this review out by admitting that I am a HUGE fan of Great Big Sea, so there is some slight bias here. However, I have seen them a total of 3 times now and this was my favourite of the 3. The venue provided a really nice outdoor intimate venue, definitely the closest I've sat to experience their music. We were even as far as you could get Stage right and it was still an amazing concert (we had the aisle to dance in too to boot!) Great Big Sea was still at the beginning of their tour schedule and I have never seen them in finer form. The jokes and improv music were hilarious and their sound was as incredible as ever. The only two downsides of the whole event (which the band made a point to make note of haha) was that no alcoholic beverages were allowed inside the giant circus tent that the band played in, AND that there was a noise curfew of 10:30pm so the band only was allowed to do a one song encore (otherwise I'm sure Great Big Sea would have kept playing for quite a while longer). This being said, it was a Thursday event so the noise restrictions are probably a bit tighter and the band made sure to jam as much as they could in. Also, on the drink aspect, the venue was so intimate you could hear almost perfectly from within the washrooms, and if you went out to get a beverage, the view and noise were almost as good as it was at your seats, so it wasn't that much of a hassle. Definitely recommend the band, and we will definitely look to see more shows at this venue.

Great Show with lots of audience participation and LOTS of energy. The only downside was that the vocals were too low. When they sang without the instruments there was no problem hearing the vocals. On most of the songs, not all, but most you couldn't hear the vocals which made it sound like murmuring under the music. I love the band and the venue but didn't enjoy the experience last night.

Great Big Sea was Great. The selection of songs was brilliant and of course the show was amazing. The SOUND was terrible. It was if the mic wasn't plugged in. I couldn't hear the singer even though I was in the 11th row (off to the left of the stage). I know the words to the songs but my invited guests didn't and unfortunately they had never heard GBS before. I hope they give them another chance. I feel Cape Cod Melody Tent is at fault for the sound mis-hap. The guys were terrific and the energy was amazing. I will definitely see them again but may think twice about seeing them at CC Melody tent.

The first time I saw Great Big Sea was two years ago at the Melody Tent. It was the year we decided to investigate the tent as a viable option for concert going. We saw four shows that year. We opted to investigate two new artists and two that we were familiar with. Great Big Sea was one of the "new artists" we chose, just from your write-up. We LOVED them. The other three shows were great also. The sound was fantastic, the talent was phenomenal. This year we have so far been to two shows. The B-52's and Great Big Sea. We love both groups, but this year the sound was garbled. I'm not a techie person, so I don't know the correct language. But the words were hard to make out. I don't know if it was too much bass, or what. The sound system was definitely poor quality. It was too loud at the B-52's, my ears hurt afterward. That shouldn't happen. Great Big Sea was better, (as far as the sound level) but still not crystal clear like before. That's too bad. It would make me hesitate to attend another concert here.

Characteristically fine show by the lads.. Only a few suggestions. 1. Sean's voice was inaudible in Section B, even during MariMac. 2. Why do they never sing "End of the World as We Know It" when I attend? 3. Why do some yahoos with seats one row back from mine think its OK to jibber like chimps with each other through EVERY song?

Overall experience was wonderful. Great Big Sea is a really likable band with a lot of energy, and their songs are really upbeat. But what's up with the parking at C.C Melody Tent? The parking lot was half empty yet they packed us in so that we couldn't leave unless the people in front of us left! There were no rows between cars! I have never seen anything like that! Other than that it was a really intimate place to see a band.

As an Newfoundlander living abroad I truly appreciate the opportunity to see Great Big Sea whenever I can. After 20 years they still put on a wonderful show. I just learned about these guys and totally fell in love with their music. I bought tickets to this concert the minute I heard they were coming into town and was lucky to get seats on the ground floor. The venue is very intimate with a lot of beautiful detail and the acoustics are pretty good too. Only critique (if I had to make one) is that the back rows on the ground floor are on a fairly steep incline. I was wearing heels and had to lean against the seat in front of me if I stood up. My husband, who was in tennis shoes, even said his legs were getting tired. Overall, a great concert. Would go again regardless.

What an unforgettable performance! Surrounded by the Rockies in the beautiful park.. My only recommendation: Get some LOCAL talent on stage all afternoon with the conclusion being GBS or another big name.. We have some AWESOME 16 and 17 year old musicians and great school bands.. people would just sit and enjoy 30 minute sets by various groups waiting for the opening act and the headliner!

My third GBS show this year, and this was truly the best. Sure, The Aladdin is more intimate than either big city zoo, but it was all about the band. Early in the show, Alan looked out on the supportive crowd, and a wee smile of happiness appeared. Then, He and Sean and Bob put on the most energized, most heart-felt performance I've ever seen. And it showed all night, that they were truly enjoying themselves, enjoying playing for us. And we loved them more for that. Sean sang his slow solos with deep conviction, and Alan's encore solo of Boston and St. Johns made my eyes wet. Seriously. I talked with my buddy Marc the day after, and he was still in shock and awe too, and he got to hug Alan at their KINK Bing Lounge performance (boy, that is a true mixed feelings thing for me right there, happy for him, but pissed (okay, jealous) at him). Anyway, thank you Great Big Sea, for a perfect performance. Godspeed.

Being from Canada and living in the US, I had no idea that Great Big Sea even toured in this area. But here they were, passing through, and they even had quite the following! I was so happy to be able to attend this show. The setting was quite intimate, with the Keswick Theatre seating 1500 people, there really wasn't a bad seat in the house. The acoustics in that theatre are amazing and Great Big Sea was able to take full advantage of them! GBS played many of my favorites and probably even played something from each album. It was a really fun show and I really enjoyed the bands interaction with the crowd. I can't wait for them to come back through this area again - I will definitely be in attendance! The Acoustic, zero microphone ending to the show was great!

The easy-going nature of the boys from the tropical island of Newfoundland ;) along with their amazing voices and talents made for an evening filled with song, dancing, and fun! The way these guys are able to interact with the crowd is unique and very personable. The variety of instruments is incredible. The harmony of GBS can not only be heard, but seen and felt as well. I was irritated with the inconsiderate 6' 2" father who just had to put his 6 year old son up on his shoulders for a good 30 or more minutes causing a blocked view....

Having grown up in Newfoundland,my husband and I try to see them whenever they are cross the border close to where we live now in northern Pennsylvania. We had never been to this venue and I'm glad we did as we were able to get right up to the front! The boys were energetic from the beginning to the end, even though the crowd was smaller than what they experience in Canada. But they began in pubs in St. John's twenty years ago and so it is not a surprise that they are very comfortable in the more personal venues. I hope they come again next year! We had a great time and we will be sure to check out the 2014 season lineup.

This was our second Great Big Sea Concert in Rochester - we have all of their CD's, and bought GBSXX pre-release boxed set as a birthday present for my wife last Octoberr. The night was HOT - weather was in 90's all week. Sisters of Murphy from Rochester was a lot of fun to listen to and made a great first act. I wish them well in their endeavors. Carbon Leaf from Richmond, VA had an interesting mix of music - and were a little more energetic than Sisters of Murphy - evidence of their being a bit more established and a higher rock content. Then there is Great Big Sea - with their eclectic mix of Bawdy and not "Irish" ballads and their own brand of Rock. In his book, Bob Hallet speaks of the influence that Punk had on them - I missed the Punk "generation" - or don't remember it being anything like GBS. We've been listening to them for a long time - I miss the early You Tube videos of their concerts - when they signed with Warner Music Group, they created "Official" Music Videos and WMG had the other videos that had hundreds of thousands of views removed due to copyright infringement. That was too bad, because they gave their budding fan base a great sampling of the guys live. The Official Videos can be too slick and out of sync with who the guys really seem to be sometimes.

Really one of the best live concerts I've ever seen. Speaker problems during the first half didn't slow the boys down at all. They played some quieter songs including the wonderful 'Old Brown's Daughter' as to not stress the ailing speaker. After the intermission, the show really took off with songs that rocked the house. The air was still, and the temp was warm, but the open-air concert at the Minnesota Zoo was a good time. During the first set, the sound system was flaky, but GBS responded by doing a couple a cappella numbers without mics & leading the crowd in a tune or two. GBS is one of my favorite bands & was great to see them on their 20th anniversary tour. I do wish they would have sung "General Taylor," but the tunes they did perform were a blast. GBS shows that they are a bunch of guys who love what they do.

This group did a great job once their blasting speakers went out. The vocalists have amazing voices and it was wonderful to be able to hear them harmonize and sing some cool songs from their roots. The blasting rock and roll stuff in the beginning of the concert...just sounded like any other group trying to be loud and cool. Not only was that part bad but we had to stand through most of it. If this group did an acoustic tour and sang some of the great songs they performed later in the concert...I would go ten times more and recommend it to all my friends.. Too bad a group with so much talent just wants to follow the pack of LOUD and hide their skills.

gbs were their regular awesome and energetic selves. add that it was the 20th anniversary tour and how determined they were to show solidarity with boston after the bombings and the suspect chase that shut down half the state, they were a sight for sore eyes and ears! the venue... i have nothing but good things to save about the people working there - they were all very helpful and nice. i imagine it was a little crazy with a sold out show and yet they totally kept their cool. my biggest issue with the venue was the sound in the balcony area. i don't know if it was badly set up equipment or lack of sound testing, but 75% of the show sound was pretty distorted up there. i knew most of the songs, so i knew what was being said/sung?, but the person who came with me and was new to gbs couldn't understand almost anything most of the night. a little frustrating. i would either recommend wilbur look into the sound or gbs seek another venue - it isn't a good match for the two without some changes.

This band is amazing! You can tell they are genuinely nice guys. They have been together forever and they will make you want to go hang out with them at the pub after the concert. Just fun. And great for many ages and a diverse crowd!

The group was first introduced to my husband and me when they performed at L.L.Bean. Since then, we have seen them 4 times. Usually we have to travel a distance so it was nice to have them in Portland, Maine. They never disappoint us!

These guys keep it fresh after a fairly long tour through the US. They were funny, respectful, and involved the audience. The audience was into the show, but I would like to see them in Canada where I hear the shows are even more intense.

I love this band - this was my first time seeing them live. I was thrilled to get to see them in Maine, but wish I'd saved some $ and gotten a front row balcony seat, which I could have sat in and actually seen the show! I ended up standing throughout the entire show with a ridiculous number of tall people in front of me, along with flailing arms; I had to continually shift position to be able to see the various band members. This was my first show at this venue, where there was way too much alcohol consumption for my comfort.

I'd been waiting to see Great Big Sea for four years, and I was expecting a lot after seeing their DVDs and various live performances on YouTube. Let me tell you, they did NOT disappoint. They know how to throw a party and get the audience involved. Because I saw them on their 20th anniversary tour, they pulled out some older material that they didn't play live very often and it went over very well with the crowd and it was just a really genuine, fun, great time. They may be in their forties and they may have been a band for twenty years now, but there is nothing tired about them. Go see them if you get the chance; you won't regret it!

GBS was awesome! I saw their first show in Boston on 04/20/13. Throughout the entire night, they brought the crowd into the songs. The crowd definitely needed this after the bombings in Boston. This concert had to been one of the best concerts I have ever attended! And this is coming from someone who works in the sports and entertainment industry and has worked many concerts.

They sang their hearts out, the smaller venue than the Orpheum suited them well. After one of the worst weeks of my ( and Boston's ) life, it was the first night I actually slept soundly.

Just prior to showtime, fans were treated to video of the National Anthem from the first Bruins home game since the Marathon attack. Frequent references to Boston's strength made a special night better. Great Big Sea has long been a favorite of local music lovers. The band showed their thanks with a long, heartfelt show that featured the extensive catalog of a group that is celebrating twenty years of music. Humor, passion, fun, and talent defined the night. Thank you Great Big Sea for an unforgettable show.

I am a huge Great Big Sea fan. I have seen them several times. They always deliver an incredible show and Sunday's show at Wilbur Theatre was no different!! 20 years together and these guys still absolutely rock. They are so talented, funny, and energetic. I cannot wait to see them again. If you have never heard of Great Big Sea, you MUST check them out. If you have never seen them in concert, you absolutely must.

I actually went to Both nights when they were in Boston this past week. I was thrilled, as they are my all time favorite. They actually played many different songs the second night than the first so that was awesome of them! I would see them every day if I could. High energy and brilliant band! I wouldn't ever miss them if they came to MA. Best concerts I have ever seen!

GBS always gives the most amazing live performances, and this one was no exception. They did two complete sets with lots of my favorites, although I think the first set was a bit stronger than the second one. If you're a GBS fan, you shouldn't miss this tour.

Town Hall is a great venue & GBS delivered a high energy, moving performance that met their usual standards. They are infectious performers & the crowd was on their feet many times throughout the show. They have a way of conveying those moments in life that others simply miss & you can see that they perform with their hearts, not with a paycheck in mind. They are the rare act that is as good live as when they're recorded & that is a tough feat in this recorded age.

This concert was awesome! I always enjoy seeing Great Big Sea, these guys send out good vibes and I guarantee that you will leave the theater feeling great! GBS knows how to show an audience a great time. Even in a theater that can seat up to 1,200 people, GBS makes you feel like\u2026oh, you re just down at the local pub and oh they re just some guys playing songs down at the end of the bar\u2026for fun. They provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere and I recommend that EVERYONE go to a Great Big Sea concert at some point in your life. As a matter of fact, go to more than one! For 20 years these guys have been providing toe-tapping music that dares you to just try and stay in your seat...but you will not be able to, whether you are 6 or 60 you will be up dancing and smiling and having a great time!.

Absolutely loved GBS in person! Sure, there were a bunch of other songs I wish they'd played, but I realize they can't possibly perform every song in a 2 or 3 hour set. Amazing performance though, and they are very engaging with the audience.

I LOVE Great Big Sea. The band would get a 5 star rating. But the sound system at Town Hall did not do the band justice.

This was my fourth Great Big Sea concert and they just keep getting better and better everytime I see them. Alan, Sean, and Bob are truley amazing together. The chemistry that you see on stay between them is palpable. This 20th anniversary tour allowed new fans like myself to hear some of the early work by the band such as Whaddyaat while still playing fan favorites like Charlie Horse and Donkey riding. While the show was not nearly as intimate as the show the boys did several years ago at the south shore music circus the energy level toppled what I saw last summer at the Lowell summer series. If I would see this show again I would hope that the boys would play an accoustic song or two like they have done in the past.
