TV On the Radio

TV ON THE RADIO IN CONCERT:Acclaimed Brooklyn indie band TV on the Radio thrilled fans in late 2014 with the release of Seeds, their first album since the 2011 death of their bassist Gerard Smith. The record was a triumph for the band on numerous fronts -- a tribute to a departed friend, a commitment to pressing on, and, in the opinion of frontman Tunde Adebimpe, their finest work to date. Critics and fans agreed, applauding the album's potent blend of synthpop and art rock and hailing tracks like "Happy Idiot" and "Careful You" as instant classics. TVOTR are a powerhouse live act known for their technical virtuosity and effortless cool, and their visceral performances on tour always treat ticket buyers to the perfect blend of arty indie rock and straight-ahead rock and roll.

I've seen TVOR a few times, but this was my first time seeing them as a solo act. They had a great opening band, which I can't remember the name, but they help set the mood for the show. The main act started a bit late, nearly hour, and I got pretty reckless. When the band finally came on, I let them take me on trip of guitars, distorted vocals, and horns. Sometimes other instruments were louder than others, which drowned out some of the vocals; a down side. I didn't stay for the entire encore because it was getting late, and I wanted to catch BART, but I left mostly satisfied.

I've seen TV on the Radio a few times over the years - they never disappoint and yet, this time, they took it to a new level. Not sure if it was the awe of the venue that got into them (it might have been as they mentioned a few times how humbled they were to play there) but it was a ridiculously intense show. New songs sounded fantastic and there was energy through the roof.

The opening band was kind of weird... I remember the chick lead singer sitting with the band shirts after their set. She was looking hella pissed (maybe because the shirts weren't selling...) TV on the Radio was great! That white guy on the guitar was going crazy. They really put their hearts and souls into the performance. Very enjoyable show. I remember i sat in the box seats and we had a waitress that brought us beer, food and candy throughout the night. I've been to tons of shows, but this was the first one with a waitress... I'd have a better review except i didn't receive this notification for writing a review until 2 months after the show.

I really enjoyed this event. Even though my friend and I were far away from the stage in the balcony we still had a great time. TV on the Radio was awesome. On all of their fast songs we got out of seats and danced, as did everyone else. I love their slow songs, but they don't translate well live, especially after the energy was so very high during their faster songs. But I had a great time nonetheless and the Fox Theater was gorgeous and very nice. Great band, great time!

No other band is doing what these guys are doing. Try to see them in a small venue if possible - I think this helps to hear all the intricacies of their music. If you're hearing them in a large venue I recommend getting as close as possible even if it costs a bit more. This band has a great unique sound and is fun to watch.

These guys put on a great performance at The Fox Theater in Oakland, CA. If I had never seen them before I would have given them 5 stars. They played most of their entire new album and the acoustics at The Fox are amazing so they sounded fantastic. I was a little disappointed they didn't play more of there old stuff but that's how it goes. Only real bummer is the set ended at about 10:20pm...pretty early for a Friday night.

The Fox Theatre is gorgeous and the music was tremendous. I usually reserve 5 stars for 1 hour MIN after "leaving" stage or marathon concerts like 10/06 Bruce Springsteen at Oracle. Music was great, they did a short encore, I would see them again!

I saw TV on the Radio at the Fox in Oakland, CA. We couldn't see much from our seats and really wanted general admission tickets. The music was good but wasn't heart stopping or inspiring and the light show was too much. Stimulate the crowd with the music, don't tell them how to think and feel with other visual stimulations unless it is actually part of your story.

This was the third time I've seen TVOTR and the most polished performance I've seen. The sound quality at the Fox Theater is great and parking is very easy. They played a bit longer than in the past and the songs had more of a rock-orientation than the recorded versions.

TVOTR rocked, as usual- and their performance was enhanced by the the two giant buddhas on either side of the stage. All in all a great show- better than their set at Bonnaroo, they are better in an intimate setting like this.

TV On The Radio played the beautifully restored Fox Theater in Oakland and the show absolutely rocked. Their state-of-the-art LED powered light show was beautifully designed and their musical virtuosity was highly evident. My only complaint, shared by the others I attended with, was the poor sound mix. The vocals were lost in the sea of guitars, as were many other elements that are clearly audible on their studio mix. Overall, the rock-out made up for it, and we had a great time...

The renovated Fox Theater in uptown Oakland provided the perfect showcase venue for this constantly improving musical group. TVOTR seems to play regularly throughout the bay area...no doubt they enjoy spending their down time exploring the area. Both the band and the region are diverse and dynamic. The theater, the band, the sound quality and the crowd made this show memorable.

This was the fourth time I've seen TVOTR, and it keeps getting better. HOB New Orleans I have to say was the best venue to capture their sound & energy. The crowd was definately in tune, it was packed. There was crowd of people outside willing to pay alot of money for tickets, but no one was selling. Yeah I have all their albums & singles, but everytime they perform it is a different experience. ex: they play Staring at the Sun at every show, but it never sounds the same. tha's wassup! peace and blessings. Liitle Dragon was hot too, but hey the night belonged to TVOTR.

Double meaning with the headline, as the band delivered a strong, very short set, and the venue was small for the likes of what is now an arena rock band. For a band with as deep of a catalogue, they need to play longer than one hour to justify $30 tickets.

Smith Westerns, Warpaint, Arctic Monkeys, and TV on the Radio were all excellent. However I took one star off because Panda Bear was just awful. So awful, that the word awful seems too nice. TV On the Radio was simply on point. They're sound and energy was everything I hoped to see and more. The most surprising event of the night was their opener, Sorne. I have never heard a more unique and riveting performance in my life. Usually openers at shows are lame and get laughed at, but Sorne had an animalism that pushed everyone to be free and vulnerable. If you're going with the hope of seeing TV on the Radio play their hits and blow you out of the water....you're in luck. From the opener of Halfway Home to the closing encore of Satellite, Tunde and the band's energy was incredible the entire time, evidenced partially by Tunde's shirt being soaking wet by the night's end. Yes, it is cliche, but Tunde sounds just as good, if not better, in person. The same thing goes for Kyp Malone, it actually surprised me how high his voice could go. I had concerns about the sound because the first song was a bit bass heavy, but the theatre must have worked it out because the sounds on the heavier songs still came out great. They don't interact with the crowd too much save for Tunde doing this weird call and response thing during the encore (it was actually pretty cool). Overall, an absolutely fantastic band of musicians who put on a show that you won't forget and will leave you wanting to see them again next time they're in town.

Show was great, in spite of the usual sound issues i have with the Fox Theater. Some people tell me it's because I stand so close to the stage, but I don't buy that. I stood in the very front for the Flaming Lips last year and the sound was excellent! But I stood in pretty much the same place for TV on the Radio and some songs were great, others were way off balance. More thorough sound checks needed in all parts of the room, perhaps?

TVOTR blew up the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday Sept. 25th. They were high energy with great sound slightly more raw than their albums which I think added to the feel of the show. I would definitely see them again, the only reason for not giving five stars is that they played for about an hour. For a headliner they should have had a much longer set. Because they were on stage for such a short time many my favorite songs didn't get played. The Arctic Monkies played right before TVOTR and were on for about the same amount of time and were nowhere near as good. In fact although they sounded fine I was tired of them about half way into their set since most of their songs sound so similar. Usually at the Bowl three bands play but on that night they squeezed in five which I assume is the reason for the shorter set by TVOTR. Next time put the usual three on the bill so we can see more from one of the most innovative and talented bands around, TV on the Radio.

Great show. Discovered some bands, such as the Smith Westerns and Warpaint, who were both very tight and great musicians. Warpaint does great harmonies and made me think of a mix of The Cocteau Twins and Tegan and Sara. Panda Bear were not bad, with psychedelic images on the screens. Not the best for a concert. Maybe better for a club. Arctic Monkeys were great and TVOTR were VERY intense. Great way to end the season at the Bowl.

My concert review of Sunday's Hollywood Bowl show: WARPAINT - awesome cute chick band who are moody in a good way! PANDA BEAR - started groovy but descended into annoying trippy noise. TVOTR are one of my all time favorite bands. The Fox is beautiful. The lighting was amazing. But I stood right in the middle of the theater, about 30-40 feet from the stage, and the sound was absolutely awful. Loud and noisy, you couldn't hear the instruments and different parts, hardly differentiate the vocal or at all understand the lyrics. It was really sad to have such amazing music played/mixed so poorly! I don't know if it's the Fox's sound guy, or if TVOTR tours with their own (I'm guessing it's the former because the opening act was equally terrible to listen to, and I heard that M.Ward was also terrible in sound at the Fox). The sound is quintessential! I don't know if I will ever go to the Fox again if they can't sort that out. It certainly was a waste of money this time :-(. I heard other people walking out saying the same thing "they played all my favorite songs and I didn't enjoy it at all..." Also, though I hate to say it because I have such love and respect for this band. But my sense was that they sort of rushed through their songs at times. And they mostly played their faster tracks, and hardly any of their pretty acapella stuff. But I think also they must still be grieving...

Simply an amazing set. Prospect Park is an ideal setting to watch a band, with lush natural surroundings on a beautiful summer night. TVOTR really seem to believe in what they're doing and save the pomp that a lot of indie headliners put forth. I could use cliches like "these guys kick ass" or "TVOTR rocks," but that would minimize the experience. On second thought, yeah, they kick ass.

Words just cant describe how awesome this concert was...everyone was so pumped and fans were just screamin and clappin and dancinggg and lovinnnnn ittttt as sooon as the band started!!!!! They put water on the drums and were beating them and it was sprayin the crowd which was so cool and felt great. Every single song sounded so amazinggg and they played all of my favorites! "Wash the day away," "Staring at the Sun," "Wolf like Me," "Crying," "Blues from down here," "Love Dog,"...and much moreeeee!! the whole experience just gives me chills thinking about it. After the show ended.. we went around to the back and actually met Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe!!! They were so chill and so cool just talkin with the fans like normal people. I had a disappointing experience seeing a band that I love and have so much respect for. The venue was beautiful and that was probably the best part. King's Theater in Brooklyn has been amazingly refurbished. While the crowd of Brooklyn lemmings just sort of all unspokenly agreed that they were going to laud the performance of this Brooklyn artist regardless of whether or not it was actually going to be good, I just sat there disappointed. But hey, maybe I'm just the idiot who can't appreciate it and I was missing something that everyone else enjoyed.

The venue had a great setup. Great view of the stage from nearly anywhere. The chemistry between all of these artists was incredible. You could feel the passion behind their music. The front man was constantly a focal point, bringing the crowd into each song and making the audience feel as though they were a part of the events taking place on stage. Each member of the band contributed greatly to this feeling and the main guitarist leaping into the air while the lead vocalist danced and sang to the music left the impression that this band truly experiences the music that they play.

We had to leave early from our mezzanine seats because the sound was so loud you couldn't even hear any individual instrument besides feeling the drums. Everyone around us was plugging their ears and trying to move to different open seats that were out of the direct speakers.

TV on the Radio is incredible live, and the Fox theater has a great sound system in a very unique setting. Great show all around.

I love TV on the Radio and have seen them multiple times, but this was a poor showing. The sound seemed to be off. The vocals were not up enough and the music was kind of murky.

Frenetic, optimistic, redemption. This is the theme I came away with. Great musicians too. Seeds is an A+ album and they played the new songs so nicely. My only problem was the sound at the Fox theater. It wasn't mixed well. It was soooo loud and too sharp. It felt over produced. It's a gorgeous venue. Love it. But they need to improve the sound.

Incredible seating, I could literally look into Tunde Adebimpe's eyes when he sang. Maybe it was the top of his fedora, but still. It was close. Intimate without being crowded. Perfect acoustics/lighting. Strange thing, over the stage were all of these religious symbols, very new world 'unity-through-diversity', except JC, the most famous "love your neighbor/ don't hide your goodness from your enemies" godly figure, was curiously absent. I mean even the Iroquois nation earth-turtle was up there, but no Jesus. It made me feel a little weird and was really detracting me from enjoying THE GREATEST BAND AND CONCERT EVER. I just couldn't shake the feeling I was at the "anyone but Christ" altar.

Great show at the House Of Blues Houston!! Nostalghia was great & the primary reason I attended. Coscandra Nostalghia is electric in her stage presence, though controlled, even subdued at times. She makes WANT to listen!! TV was also outstanding & more energetic live than I thought they would be. A great night of music & I would definitely see both performers live again!!

Was really looking forward to this show and my brother told they put on a really great performance. Sunday night, they looked tired, didn't seem that into it and the sound was poor. I wish I would have saved myself the money and the late night before a tough work week.

They played an excellent show - full of energy, played new stuff and their older stuff. Overall great experience!

I'm a big fan of both TV on the Radio and Broken Social Scene. I've seen them both numerous times and they both put on very, very strong shows. BSS opened so it wasn't the best BSS concert and the crowd energy was tamer than when I've seen them headline but there was still very good energy between the crowd and the band. TVOTR performed their best show that I had scene. I've seen them in the city a few times and I think they really get a kick out of playing in their hometown of Brooklyn. I've had issues with this venue and I never thought it sounded great but I thought the sound was pretty good although maybe I had a better position for this show than for any previous one I had attended (I was front row and center for this show).

great time! Only downer is that the show started earlier than normal so by the time I got out of work in midtown and headed to Brooklyn I had missed half of Broken Social Scene.

This is my 3rd time to see TV on the Radio and the largest venue I have seen them. I was little worried that it might feel disconnected, as I prefer smaller more intimate shows, but I was wrong. They rocked out and kept the crowd engaged, and were as wonderful as always! If you have never had the pleasure, treat yourself and see this awesome band live, they totally are worth it!

Tv on the radio is a great studio band. They write great music and record it very well. I can't say the same about the show the put on. It lacked movement and feeling. Would not see them in show again. On the other hand, broken social scene was great, soooo much energy and talent. I will see them again! They should have headlined the show.

Broken Social Scene is one of the best bands around, they were great ! TV on the radio were good although their music is one dimensional. The waterfront is a good venue all in all a very good show I just wish Broken could have played longer.

Both bands were great however for the Waterfront venue I would ve preferred a Friday or Sat date for two reasons: Its September people work and its not easy to get there. With Broken coming on at 7 alot of concert goers like myself could not catch them open. Thursday for NYers is a hard task. If it were Friday or Sat it would ve been easier. Secondly, the rain we ve been having didn't help getting to the event as well. Other than that TV was great.

There aren't many words for how incredible a show TV on the Radio puts on. They rock! Energy, emotion, sexiness... they've got it all. Unfortunately, I feel as if the crowd isn't always great as they should be. WET BLANKS!!!

Love and I mean love their albums. The show sucked tho. Wall of sound. Couldn't hear vocals. Barely could make out the notes let alone words. Crowdreacted accordingly. Not much energy. I was really excited for this show and left very disappointed. Get a new sound guy!!.
