Stryper

Though their version of heavy metal is singed with the signature distortion, volume and extended guitar solos of the genre, Stryper adds Christian-laced themes and lyrics, launching them into the Christian metal, or white metal, category. The long-established outfit, whose name is an acronym for “Salvation Through Redemption Yielding Peace, Encouragement and Righteousness,” kicked off with the first full-length release, 1985’s “Soldiers Under Command.” That set stands as the first Christian metal record to reach gold certification, with sales of more than 500,000 copies.   Known for tossing Bibles to the audience during concerts, Stryper held its own against the hot hair-metal bands of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, including Bon Jovi, Dokken and Def Leppard, releasing five albums total before temporarily calling it quits in 1992.

I have been to many of their concerts and they always give you more than you pay for. I think that is an enormous benefit to them and many who cannot afford to pay ridiculous prices some concerts and venues have. We all had a great time!

I've been a stryper fan for a long time. Got to see them in 2016 and decided to go see them again. Same place, Center Stage Atlanta! They rocked the building! The new songs were absolutely amazing! If you haven't heard "Sorry" yet, do yourself a favor and check it out! They played for almost two hours non-stop! Michael Sweet's voice is amazing! If they come to town again, I will be right there front and center, again! This time with earplugs... LOL Its taking me longer to recover after these amazing concerts!

I have been a fan since the beginning. I was amazed on how good they looked and sounded. They sounded so awesome live. Michael still sounded like when he did in the 80s. They played the old stuff and new. The new was amazing. Hope they come back soon. Love you, Stryper.

What an excellent show. Stryper is an excellent live band, always has been! Excellent band and vocals even when Michael Sweet was sick. They did a cover of Boston which was perfect.

Strangely, I was virtually unaware of this bands existance for most of my life. I was not familiar with their music, and knew none of the songs they played. However, even though I didn't know the lyrics, they rock! The sounds were jammin' and very much reminded me of Judas Priest or Metalica. Their on-stage presence was top shelf, and I am very glad they decided to get back together and tour. I would go see them again any time.

Stryper was so ridiculously talented that even after 25 years they rocked harder than they did 25 years ago( i have the ringing ears to prove it) I was a bit perplexed at the site (Chameleon Club) and their inferior equipment-If they are going to continue having big name artists-they need to upgrade the inferior sound equipment

I went to this concert for the sake of nostalgia more than anything. I kind of expected a so-so show. As we waited while they set up the stage they started bringing out all the yellow and black striped equipment and guitars, drums...then out they come looking like they walked out of the 80's! Not with the hair but they looked really good. Then they started playing and for an hour and a half we were all mesmerized! They were as good as ever and maybe even better! Timothy Gaines had joined back up with them on this tour and was incredible on the bass, Robert Sweet was amazing on the drums and as fun to watch as before, Oz performed in Oz fashion and tore it up on the guitar. Michael sounded incredible and yes he CAN still hit those high notes! They played music off the old albums and their new one. Everything sounded great! If you get a chance to see this show DO IT! You won't be disappointed.

There are simply not enough words to describe how truly magnificent this day was. I had purchased the meet / greet/ sound check passes as am "add on" to this show, and was truly glad I did. I got to the Chameleon Club at 1:30 PM, just in time to see Michael Sweet stepping off the tour bus, along with Oz, and Tim. There was myself and two other fans, and the guys were just the nicest guys to talk to. No pressure, no attitudes, no egos, just a nice, pleasant conversation with all 3 of them The sound check experience was just great, and I shot over 3 rolls of film during sound check, and our one hour meet and greet afterwards. They guys were just great, and sincere, ( hint; NOT stuck up ! ), and spent a lot of time with each, and EVERY one of the 50 fans who had purchased the meet and greet tix. It is not often in this business that you meet such a genuinely NICE, and sincere bunch of guys, especially in the music business. Michael's son, Mike Jr., and his band opened the show with a blistering set of their own,and are something to be watched with a keen eye. These kids are gonna make it big. Stryper came out at 9:15 sharp, and took us all through a nostalgic, sometimes emotional trip through the 80's, and into this millenium with a mesmerizing TWENTY ONE song set, including three oncores. They opened with the blitzkreig "Soldiers Under Command", and never took their foot off the gas, until the final note was played. They played all their hits, and delved deep into their newest effort, "Murder By Pride", all played with equal aplomb. The band looks great, and playes even better. Michael Sweet has no problems what so ever hitting EVERY high note, and the ballads "Honestly", and "Alive" were simply gorgeous, and emotional, for every one in attendence. Robert Sweet is simply MONSTER on drums, playing on his new gold and black striped ( what else ? ) kit. Oz Fox is still a brilliant, and often enough, a comical guitarist ,and can shred with the best of them. Tim Gaines holds down the low end very nicely, and strong, and sings back up harmony very well. It was an absolute PLEASURE to see this band perform in such an intimate club setting, and nicer yet, to see and talk with the many hard core Stryper fans in attendence. This was a truly great show, and a can't miss for the many 80's era rock music-Christian Rock music fans out there today.

I was at the Stryper show last night and also paid extra for the meet-and-greet passes. I would highly recommend the meet-and-greet, as you get to see the band perform a few songs during sound check, as well as hang out a bit, get photos, and autographs. The show they put on is still top-notch in every sense of the word. Michael's voice is every bit as good as it was "back in the day" and the set list will not disappoint (no spoilers here). This tour features the original lineup who are all in top form and also is great for those of us who wanted some classic Stryper rarities autographed. Be sure to bring a camera, as photos (w/ flash) are allowed.

Stryper put on a great show(as they always have), mixing older classics from all of their previous albums with several songs from their newest, they kept the somewhat past their prime crowd amped. My only complaint on the night would be that we had to listen to three opening bands prior to Stryper. Although all were entertaining(especially Manic Drive), the audience came to see Stryper, and it took awhile to get to them.

Simply put Stryper was awseome! The only problem was too many warm up bands and Ozz's guitar was way too loud. The opening bands were Ok! I really liked their 1st and 2nd acts, plus the one they had outside the concert area. Micheal Sweet has lost none of his high pitched voice and it was good to see Tim back in the fold, Albeit " for now "!

After 25 years of making ground breaking music, Stryper took the stage and rocked my face off. My buddy said it best when he commented, "You could tell they were having the time of there lives." Musically, they were tight. Trade off solos galore, timing and showmanship. I did the pre show meet n greet which was very cool and I also caught a Bible they had tossed into the crowd. The first act was pretty forgettable, except for their lead guitar player (Jeremy, i believe his name was) and Flight Patterns were actuall pretty good. Personally, I would have loved to seen another encore and a couple of guitar solos and a drum solo, but as far as the performance of the band, it was breath taking.

This show was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time, maybe if ever if you consider the talent of these guys. Michael Sweet's voice is stronger than ever. Those notes he hit and the END of the night after singing his arse off were out of this world. The guitar sounds and chops were what me made me love this music from the beginning. I can't say enough to recommend catching them on this tour. Worth the money times 10!

The WORST rock and roll experience EVER! The wife and I went to this show out of loyalty to Tom Sholz of the group Boston who I worked with years ago. What a total disappointment. To start with, there were 2 unannounced opening acts. The first, whose name I have forgotten to protect the guilty, were a very young band trying to relive the 80's. They were not so bad but they were PAINFULLY loud from the first note. Even the HOB staff all were wincing and wearing ear plugs! HOB had put us up on the 3rd level thinking that would be more comfortable for my wife who is partially handicapped. She was very uncomfortable between the nose-bleed height (she is agoraphobic: no-one asked) and the painful volume, all of which gave her a panic attack, so we fled to the 1st floor and the lobby for safe haven. A kind HOB staffer noticed our distress and got us ear plugs, gratis. Then opener #2, Flight Patterns I think, came on and again plastered us to the walls with volume. Also truly one of the worst bands I have heard in all my years as a record producer. I wouldn't book these guys in a basement, much less HOB. They couldn't play, sing or write a decent tune to save their lives. At this point, even a couple of drinks and the free earplugs couldn't save the night. We left, not having seen either Tom Sholz OR Styrper. Seeing a Stryper review today, I don't think we missed much with them. I hope Sholz did something more memorable.

Saw Stryper headline Saturday night at Rocklahoma. First I will start with the positive. They all look great and Michael Sweet can still sing his butt off and the band sounded tight. The bad was they had no stage presence at all. I don't think any of them took more than 1 step away from the mics all night. It was like their feet were nailed to the stage. Almost no crwod interaction at all except when tehy handed out the bibles. Also there weren't alot of people who stayed for them. In no way should they have been the Sat nite headliner

Stryper once again put on an amazing show - worth traveling ten hours from Tulsa to Nashville to see!! - but the Nashville audience was one of the lamest I have ever experienced. you probably couldn't get these folks to join in or sing along if you paid them to! the only let-down of the evening for me was that they didn't play their new song - "God", which is by far the best track of their new album :( This was my third time to see Stryper live, and I'd go again in a heartbeat. this was my first time to experience a Nashville crowd, and I'd be really hesitant about doing that again...

My wife now (girlfriend then) and I attended Stryper concerts often in California during the eighty's and honestly, they sounded every bit as good this past Friday night as they did 25 years ago .. their vocal harmonies for tight ,, Michael's and Oz Fox's guitar duets were sweet (no pun intended) ,, Timothy layed down a solid foundation ,, & Robert was the consummate "visual time keeper". My only complaint for the show was the lighting engineer's obsession with sweeping the audience with the uber-bright stage lights every thirty seconds, burning our retinas & eventually giving me a nasty migraine headache !!! I might have understood if we were recording a music video ,, but we were not .. I look at it this way - we are paying to see the band - they are not paying to see us. Other than that it was awesome concert ..

Awesome performance by all four original members, which was an unexpected treat. Classic songs and the new cover songs were flawless. But for someone who has been a fan since the beginning, the show was no where near long enough. But then again, they could have played every song from every album and it still would not have been long enough, they're that good and I love them that much Was expecting (hoping for?) more spiritual content like the band presented on their first three tours. Granted, these guys are great musicians and the show was great, but would have liked to have seen more of the the Christian outreach that saved MY soul. All in all, a wonderful experience seeing the guys again. But hopefully next time, they get to play a better, higher quality venue. They deserve better than the Aladdin.

I've been a fan of Stryper since the beginning and I've seen them live several times. They didn't disappoint relative to how well they played and sounded. Great energy and excellent musicianship. My let down was in the fact that because this was a postponed show, Stryper communicated to the fans that they would play a special Christmas music set which they didn't play. Winter Wonderland doesn't constitute a special Christmas music set.

Wow! The show last night was AMAZING! Stryper really brought the rock and the light of Christ to the House of Blues here in Houston. I was able to get a pass to the pre-show "meet and greet" to get some pictures with the band and a set of Stryper drumsticks signed. They are really great guys and were really loving the fans. They played an awesome set going all the way back to their roots and pulling out favorites from almost every album. Then, to finish off the night, they treated us to a Christmas set. I've been listening to Stryper since I was a kid, (who wasn't allowed to listen to anything but Christian music) and I have to say, as someone who has been to more metal shows than you could shake a stick at, Stryper impressed me the most, hands down. I've never seen them play live before, and I wasn't at all disappointed. The solos shredded, the band was tighter live than on record, (if that is possible) and singer Michael Sweet tore out the high notes until the very last. I've never seen a show I could say was flawless before. My neck hurts from headbanging, my arms ache from fist-pumping, and my back hurts from general rocking, and I think I'm half deaf, and I don't care.

Stryper was amazing - they rocked harder than ever at the House of Blues in Anaheim. I have seen the band about a dozen times, but have not seen them since the mid-80's. They were in perfect form, and I am so glad I went to see them. Stryper played selections from all their past albums, and some from the recent classic release Murder By Pride. As expected, STRYPER rocked! I've seen them six times now, all over the US from Nashville to LA and several places inbetween, and I have never been disappointed. Last night they played the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville to a packed house. They sounded awesome and looked great in the new yellow and black outfits. The music was tight: guitars loud, crunchy and right on; vocal harmonies were near perfect; and the rhythm section solid. Michael, Oz, Tim and Robert sounded as good together as ever. They played through many old favorites as well as several songs from the new album, including the title song and the Boston cover, Peace of Mind (with bass player from Boston, Kimberley Dahme, joining them on stage to play the song.) While it was cold and rainy outside, it was warm inside as STRYPER headed into the encore with To Hell With the Devil! It was a good night and the band are doing their 25th anniversary tour proud by rockin' harder than ever for Jesus. Oh, and for those who have recently asked "STRYPER? Are those guys still around?" Well the answer is a big YES! So, if you get a chance to see them live, you should definitely do it.

Stryper is back with a vengence!!! The band was hitting on all 6 cylinders. This was my 4th time seeing them and this is the tightest and best they have sounded. A little over half way thrue the show it sounded like the sound person lost control of the bass for a little bit. Had a real knarly low end feedback for a little bit. Other than that awesome show. The wild horse has a really good sound system.

This band was unforgettable!! They rocked as they always do. Tim Gaines is the best!!!!!!!!!! My granddaughter was put on the stage and gave him a yellow rose. She will never forget this experience. First rock concert ever and with a positive message to all.

Man...my ears are numb and legs are sore. We rocked out last night with Stryper at one of the most amazing concerts I had been to this decade. If you plan to catch one concert this year...make it Stryper!

Manic Drive was as good! After 25 years, Stryper was still rockin' the house and sounded great. Michael Sweet is very strong. He was even better when he toured with Boston last year so I hope he does again. The 3 guys of Manic Drive sounded better than I expected and they spent time with the crowd afterwards signing autographs etc. This was my grandson's very 1st concert and Manic Drive talked to him, gave him signed guitar pic's and an autographed photo. I bought 2 cd's of theres for him and he was sooooo excited.

What a great experience. I was able to purchase the meet and greet pass that allowed me to meet the band and sit in on soundcheck. Well worth the few extra dollars to get this up close and personal experience. Along with access to the band you were able to bring cameras and take photos of and with the band, as well as bring your camera to the show. What a difference from the old days of having to sneak a camera into a show. The band where really great, signing autographs taking photos with fans. A great experience to finally get to met the guys after following them for so long. The show was excellent as well. Stryper has not lost a thing. Michael Sweet's voice is as crisp as it was 25 years ago. He can still bring it with power and hit ever note. Tim Gaines and Robert Sweet are a super tight, powerful rhythm section that are just awesome. Oz Fox is still blazing and he and Michael deliver some of the best harmony leads and solos in rock and roll. This is a must see for fans of hard rock music. Stryper is just as good if not better today than 25 years ago.

Stryper keeps the Fire burning and then tosses napalm on the devils head! Honestly! God, Please Damn the evil and the devil soon so we can freely love You and each other Free-ly without the distractions, and the fly and mosquito bites of the demon imps! The guitars are like lasers firing electric shocks into the spiritual realm. The drums are like a call to fight and beat down the enemy. The vocals scream victory. Seriously folks, this is Christian Warfare at its finest! The hour is late - it is time to get serious about Who you truly believe in ----His Name is Jesus Christ! Don't wait til tomorrow, tomorrow is too late!

The set of THWTD in sequence from beginning to end was flawless. Then they threw in a handful more to finish the set, with the last song being chosen/voted online by the fans to be "No More Hell To Pay". Being a huge fan for over 30+ years, it was an absolute honor to meet the guys, and have our pic taken with them before the show. Such humble and down to earth guys, and for that you deserve to have the BEST fans on earth !!

Nice comfy intimate venue with a 1,000+ capacity. The show seemed a lot better for a trimmed down arena show then I imagined it would be. Seeing a band like Stryper who have been together over 30 years put on an Amazing, close and tight set that blew the roof off the place! Plus tickets were very reasonable and was an Awesome night overall!

I have seen Stryper nine times and I have NEVER been disappointed in their show. Hearing THWTD in its entirety was really cool. I like the added video screen they incorporated and having Rob's kit back to sideways is the way Stryper should be. They all sounded and played GREAT! Worth the $ to go see them!!!

The show was excellent. The new singer for Skid Row was awesome. Seem to hit all the notes. The energy was high. Stryper blew me away. super energy and had us rocking from the first chord. My only con was that skid row did not play very long. Stryper played for at least an hour but Skid Row played less than an hour. I felt just a little cheated. I was hoping to get a few more songs out of them.

I've seen these guys more than I can remember or even count. They are Awesome!! I honestly think they have gotten better with age. Having seen many metal bands from the 80's, it refreshing to see a band that is all the originals and how good they sound. Many bands sound horrible and like they haven't put an effort in to practice. Stryper Sounds tight and well put together!

I've only seen Stryper since they got back together almost 10 years ago. Sure, I have all their 80's album on vinyl, but I just didn't see them live back then. They are so tight, it makes the young'ns look like muling punks. The guitar work with constant harmonies and solos, is the stuff that made metal and hard rock what it is. They played all of the songs from old that I wanted, but they omitted the AMAZING newer songs that I think are even better ! Their regional opener, 39 Stripes out of Tampa were fantastic. they were also tight and their songs were compelling. There is also nothing like closing a great rock show with an inspiring prayer. The entire House of Blues, full of fervent rock fans, silent with heads bowed while Michael Sweet leads a solemn prayer, nobody has the integrity to do inspire that response. Nobody. Love it. I will not miss another Stryper concert, ever.

This was my first visit to NYC. I had to go for business, but had some flexibility in the schedule, so I was able to make it coincide with the show. I used to go see Stryper at least once a year, every time they came to town when I was a teenager, (I'm 38 now). Back then they were playing stadiums and arenas, so my seats were almost always in the back, which required binoculars to see them. The last time I saw them, (prior to this show), was at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Detroit, Michigan, in 1990. This NYC show was so fantastic to me for a couple of reasons. First, I hadn't seen them in 22 years and they looked and sounded better than they ever have. Secondly, not only was I not in the nosebleed seats, I was standing against the stage for the whole show! I'd never been that close. Oh, and after seeing them for about the 7th time, I finally caught a Stryper guitar pick. I literally felt like a kid again, which doesn't happen often. Amazing show!

I first saw Stryper in 1986 having no idea who they were. I had won tickets from the local radio station. I was immediately impressed with their strong songs and musicianship. I had not had a chance to see them again until they came to Houston House of Blues May 2012. They sound amazing. their music was clean performed note for note, and I could hear it as clear as can be. Most amazing was Michael Sweet's voice. Still strong and hit all the high notes. Absolutely no tuning down here. He asked the audience who was seeing them for the first time and half the hands went up. Everyone enjoyed that show. I think this band is getting better. Whether you are or not into Christian music, if you like Metal, you have to get out and see Stryper.

I have been a fan since 1987 when a friend first introduced me to Stryper. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to see them perform live at that time. I had pretty much given up hope that it would ever happen, until I heard that they had released a new album earlier this year, and were going to tour. I caught the episode of That Metal Show with Michael Sweet shortly after hearing the news - I wasn't sure what to expect, but nonetheless, I had to see this show. I am so thankful that I did. This band had not lost one bit of their ability to give a standout performance, minus the 80's hair and makeup. I was blown away by not only the performance and stage presence they possess, but also the quality of the sound they got at this venue. Stryper has not lost any of their chops after all this time, and as Michael Sweet said: 'We are one of the few bands from that decade that still retains the original members'. Incredible....thanks guys!!!!

I traveled from Honduras to see this show. This is my second time seeing this guys and the continue impressing me. They played many of the classic songs showing their amazing ability to play, something that you don't see on the new bands today. The sound and the stage is great, impressive sound, you can feel the voice, the guitars and the drums playing so hard making you feel the music and Michael s energy!!! The band is great, very dedicated to their fans (except Robert, I think he was in a bad mood). After the show, Michael step down from his tour bus to talk to us, he was such a nice guy, he gave us new testaments, autographs, and we took pictures with him. He spent about 30 minutes with us!! Support their music, spread the Word!!!!

It was an amazing time. The sound, the lights, the place was perfect in everyway. Once you get to the Culture Room you start seen all those hard rock/metal guys you dont see in the morning at malls, restaurants, office. The openning bands where just great. Sound check FAST! The stage was perfect for Stryper, I made some good and close pics for my memories. The concert start and end the way it was supposed to be, STRONG and dynamic. Stryper sounds and play the same way they used to sound back in the 80s. The energy the guys put felt like it was there first concert and they where totally excited about playing. At the end the band let me took pictures with them so, it was a blast!

Great concert performed by Stryper here at B.B. KIngs. Great sound, excellent venue. The set list was top notch. Michael Sweet's voice still untouchable, this guy knows how to bring it. Tim Gaines was killing the bass, especially in Over The Mountain, all I got to say it's WOW!!! Robert Sweet's new drum set sounds brutalllll and Oz Fox? Oh my God, this guy is the best guitarist in the World. His solos are incredible. Thank you Stryper, God keep blessing you big time. I enjoyed the show a lot.

By HIS Stripes we are Healed..... is STILL the message. All born again believers that have Jesus Christ as their personal savior, will have this as their message. And want to convey that same message to those that still do not believe. Oz Fox and Michael Sweet said this during the concert and the end of concert prayer from Michael Sweet. I've seen Stryper before, but not in this small a venue where I could get so upclose. So close to touch the stage and Michael Sweet was a real treat. So close, I could take a picture of the song set list taped to stage floor where Michael Sweets microphone is. I not only got tons of great up close pictures of Michael Sweet and the band, but no less than 10 videos. These guys came to put on a great show, and it was non-stop rock. On top of all this, I also have a guitar pick and bible from stage. I already have the bands autographs. The show was overall tremendous. The only thing missing was a drum solo from Robert Sweet and guitar solo from Michael Sweet and Oz Fox. Jeff

I was a fan years ago but had never been to a show,I'm talking VHS days back in the 1984-86. For many years I went my own way but the Lord was faithful to remember the prayers of a 12 year old boy behind a vacation bible school.I wish I knew about christian rock & had someone to sheppard my heart in the faith with the message. Can you imagine my excitement @ meeting these tremendous men of God.This was my second show seeing them since the Murder By Pride tour.Let me tell you,I did gush a little like a school kid & I had the joy of having two of my sons there for the meet & greet. My wife was present for the show.I may just have Stryperized her. They rocked the hell out of the audience.Michael,Robert,Tim & Oz were as gracious as could be.My sons were impacted & my wife was really touched when Oz let everybody in the house know they are still doing this for Jesus.Michael closed in prayer for all in the audience & the victims in Japan.Do not miss a Stryper show, these guys are going to be playing much bigger venues in the future so you'd best enjoy the intimacy of seein g & hearing them play in a 2000 person venue now! Whatever your faith or pesent level of spirituality is go see Stryper. It's a decision you'll always be glad you made & you can take that to the bank!

The band came out and did a great job! The show lasted 90 minutes and was filled with a heavy set along with some joking around with the audience. One song was stopped, but it was an attempt to get the crowd more riled up and into the concert, which worked perfectly. It was a great show and well worth going to again and again. Not to mention, Michael's vocals were top notch that night. He hit every high note. Superb!

Stryper played a wonderful show @ 8 Seconds Saloon! The soundcheck ran late because of some technical issues but it was good to see the band trying to get the best sound they could for the fans. The crowd was not as big as I anticipated but the band really put on a great show for the fans who attended. Very professional band. I also was a part of the meet and greet which also was running late due to the soundcheck difficulties, but being in bands myself, I really enjoyed watching the band try to work out the bugs. Didn't get to spend as much time with the guys during the meet and greet but they were very accomodating considering the conditions. Touring is tougher on the bands than most people realize. My props to Stryper and I sure hope they come to see Indy again. The true fans really appreciated their commitment and professionalism.
