I wanted to like this guy as I identified with a lot of what he said but it just mostly was not funny or even entertaining. Our group wanted to have a good time & this got really boring waiting for the few bright moments. It just wasn't tight or coherant.

standhope was better live than on the cable special i first saw him. He is one of the most brilliant comedians i have ever seen. His flow of ideas does not seem like a rehersed act. He dances arround hecklers(very few, they can't keep up) with masterful responses, then follows their train of thought into a new sidebar of humor. The man has a phenomenal brain! He also preformed a long time with none of his material being repetitious. He is one of the most creative thinkers of our time. Not to mention the crowd was multi-generational, a very ecclectic group, just like the preformer himself. Hope he stays this good for a long time.We (the public)certainly give him enough material! Stanhope was better than I could have imagined.

Doug was awesome! The opening comics were good. The crowd sucked. There were a few hecklers during the opening acts, and they were extremely rude. People also kept trying to talk to Doug while he was on stage, shouting at him. He could not get into a flow, but he was still funny as hell. I don't know what it is about stand up that makes people try and talk to the comedian. I did not come to see you...I came to see Doug, and Doug ROCKS!

Took my boyfriend to see this. Doug is one of his favorite comedian next to George Carlin. He really enjoyed the show and couldn t stop talking about it. The show was amazing.

Stanhope used lingo from 30-50 years ago, which was not relatable to me - he swore alot and was fixated on the King of Thailand - seems like he has alot of loyal followers, but I was not one of them - and the venue was disappointing - you couldn't move around once seated - would not recommend this show to my friends

With it being the first time seeing Doug Stanhope live, he didn't disappoint. With all the material I've heard him use over the years, I was curious if he had anything new. Again, he didn't disappoint. My girlfriend and I had a great time and will definitely see him again if or when he comes back into town.

His comedy is not for the faint of heart. But he was hilarious. He makes arguments that you can't argue with!! He will leave you cracking up. I give 4 stars simply because he was testing out some new material.

Stanhope is a one in a million. He prefaced a joke by saying "this is going to walk a lot of people, if seats become empty in the front, feel free to move up" - then he proceeded to do the funniest five minutes of beheading material I have ever heard. Not for the faint of heart, and only for people who know Doug's sense of humor.

Took my brother to see Doug Stanhope for a birthday present. I wasn't expecting to like it much, but I love my brother and he wanted me to go, so I went. I'm really glad I did! He was MUCH better in person than recorded! If you don't get easily offended, go see Doug Stanhope.

If you haven't seen Stanhope, you can stop reading this and go buy a ticket for a show near you. Always a good time, and guaranteed laugh out loud moments at every turn. Now on to the bad...it was Sacramento. The MC was disastrous. He was a sort of 'dad' looking guy with what seemed to be a clean act that he 'dirtied up' for the Stanhope crowd. Yuck. The second act was a retired comedian that 'came back to the stage' for a special set. It was awful. His closer was an impression of Chris Rock repeating punchlines and yelling at the top of his lungs. Ugh. Lastly was a Canadian comedian who came out and picked up all of the pieces. He had a Zack Galifanakis thing going, and he killed. Bottom line, go for the headliner at Sacramento Punchline, but keep expectations low for the local talent.

This was my first experience going to a comedy show to see a comedian that I new beforehand. It was everything I was hoping it would be, and I had very high expectations. Doug Stanhope is controversial and says lots of things that piss the average person off - and that's why I love him. Whether it's about mental health, family planning, or religion, I find myself almost always agreeing with him. If you don't, you probably won't enjoy the show.

I drove from Reno to see Doug, for my 5th time. I love his intellect, saviness, and edginess. Nobody can duplicate his delivery or social awareness. There's a reason why there was a huge line of ticketless hopefuls waiting outside the venue for any no shows.

Doug was in rough shape after the recent death of two friends. He held true and tried out some new material, some of which was really funny. You could tell he was still reeling from the losses and the crowd unfortunately began to heckle him.

I finally had the great pleasure to see Doug Stanhope and was blown away by how wonderful he is. Deep, dark and funny as hell truths about our mad world, our heartbreaking world, the only lives we ever get. Thanks Doug. I hope to see you back here when you're just about ready to film the current show you're developing. I'd be lucky to see that--or anything you do.

Probably the best live comedy I've seen; even better than Bill Burr on New Years 2012 (which was awesome). He has some great guys with him. Junior was hilarious-- and all of them approachable. I bought a box of girl scout cookies from Junior after the show, got autographs, etc. Stanhope's bit about football in October made me pee my pants.

If so, you are far too lame to find Doug funny. Go watch Dane Cook at an arena instead. I especially enjoyed Doug's last bit describing in gruesome detail his fantasy of raping a professional football player on the field while the fans cheer him on. If I don't see people squirming uncomfortably at a Stanhope show, I'm disappointed.

What I expected based off of his past work, though he really took things to the next level. If you are a fan of the comedy stylings of Doug Stanhope, this show was everything you could have wanted. Bar tender was absolutly terrible in the upper level though. Took forever while there was a line and messed up most of the drink orders in our group. For what they were charging for drinks I would expect better service.

I wish I had brought my resperator to the Culture Room with me. The ventilation was so poor my eyes burned the entire night and I had to come home and burn my clothes. Now to the show. The opening comedians should have been taken out back and flogged! Very sad! I enjoy humor even adult humor but there was none to be found with the openers. Now on to Stanhope..... He started off on a roll with some good stories and one liners but, completely lost his train of though, actually he was left at the station! The end of his show made no sense and was not funny. The vulgar was just senseless and without comedy. Doubt if we will go again.

You wouldn't be there if you didn't like the stand up of Doug Stanhope. Raunchy, yes.....provocative, yes......but oh so funny. I love guys like him and Dennis Miller where they just get on a rant and keep going and going and going.......be forewarned, Doug's comedy isn't for the sqeamish, but it is so funny. The 3 comics they had on before him were pretty lame, not at all funny.

We love u Doug. But we loved ur show at Marilyn's on K way more than at Punchline. That was the best show I've ever seen ya do, and it was so nice to see Bingo. Kristine was ok to open, but she kinda seemed to rehash Roseanne a bit much for my tastes. Perhaps, u can get Keith Lowell Jensen next time? Anyway, love ya, and hope ur havin a blast in UK, even though u hate London.

Dug the whole night. Was worried about my date because he's not into crass humor when it's stupid, but I assured him this guy is not stupid. Stanhope delivered the goods and my date guffawed all night long. Doug's improv at the end was the best. He answered a couple of questions off-the-cuff and showed the way his mind works a bit. I like a tightly rehearsed act, well-written and timed, etc., which Stanhope does well. But seeing him riff was a joy. It's always fun to get a glimpse inside a bright, crazy mind. Salmon Rushdie, btw, did the same thing at Mondavi a few years ago. Brilliant lecture, but brilliant-er improvised answers to random questions.

Doug was stellar as usual. The Punchline (venue) not so much! Not enough waitresses for the crowd so everyone had to wait for drinks and food which didn't arrive until after the first act had begun (for most people...) Also, the waitresses were untrained (rookies!) and were not familiar with drinks, brands and even glassware! Management is to blame, not waitresses! By the way, the venue does not use seat numbers nor does it have assigned seating so that part of this survey is worthless... Chairs are STILL very uncomfortable. The venue gets blasted in social media (Yelp for example...) but has not dne anything about it!

Doug Stanhope is an under appreciated voice of the true America! He is certainly an acquired taste but for those of us you have the pallet Stanhope is a delicacy of true talent and spoken truth. i almost hurt myself laughing. Stanhope is incredibly raw and true. He seems to speak to the disinfranchised and angry yet he seems vulerable at times, or maybe he was just hung over. Went back the next day, and i'm hoping he wont be quiting anytime soon (he spoke about not having much to say anymore, but he has been saying this for years), because i'm looking forward to seeing him again.

Honestly, what a complete waste of my time. There's something to be said when a comic doesn't prepare for the night but when s/he admits to the audience they're not prepared and can't believe they paid $ to see them because they know they aren't good.... and then they bomb. The comic who opened for him wasn't so good but she was way better. Absolutely horrible - I had to walk out. Yeah it was that bad.

I love Doug Stanhope so much it didn't matter. He kinda phoned it in. He's a genius...his presence and POV are stunning and unique...it just wasn't an "A" night. More like a "B-" night. He finally got warmed up about 3/4 of the way in and it was great. He always has killer lines like "what if Hoarders went to the Smithsonian"....he was just a little off. At the same time, I'd crawl a mile on busted glass to see him. And Cobb's needs to up their game a LOT to keep getting people of this calibre in the house

Stanhope is a social critic--in the vein of Carlin and Hicks. I find his style genius! He moves forward with his act, sometimes randomly, but with a freshness and unpredictability that leaves me surprised and giddy like a child opening presents on Christmas. His openness and permissiveness with his audience is unmatched. He lights up when someone yells out a comment. He turns into a little seal pup (albeit dark and twisted) playing with a ball : ) His SF show was incredible. I feel that I got away with something watching a growing legend work his craft and enlighten and challenge us for only $25. I want to thank you, Mr. Stanhope, for having the courage to challenge societal norms such as "Supporting our troops" and police authority. You provide your audience with much more than a laugh... if they have half the courage and opening that you do, you give them and education.

Doug Stanhope is my absolute favorite stand up comedian. I have had the pleasure to see him several times and have loved each and everyone of them. However everyone is entitled to a bad night and this one was Doug's. He absolutely tanked and could not bring himself back. After 45 minutes of embarrassment he went of stage and hid out in the back room. Last years performance at the Culture Room was however one of the best performances I have seen. Absolutely hilarious and he had the whole audience in his grip.
